Cloning software (FREE)

Hi
Is there any free cloning software out there, I have just downladed arconis true image 2014 hoping to clone my system HDD but the trial version will not let me.
I want to move it from a 500GB Sata II to a 1TB Sata III drive.

Hi,
Please try the following software:

  • Cloning software for 10.3.9 ?

Does anyone have any clue what Cloning software is out (still) there and available for 10.3.9 ?
I tried Super Duper on Tiger and Leopard and it worked but I found out that it is incompatible with 10.3.9
I need to clone a HD which is in Slave drive Tiger.
The drive I'm Cloning from within is the main drive 10.3.9 and my statup installation discs of Tiger are history. :'-(

Hi Niel and thanks for the Link.
I tried that unregistered copy and I thought my problems were solved but I think I created more problems:
    Previously:
    1) I had partitioned the only spare FireWire HD I had at the time (1TB WD) in 2 partition via Disk Utility (Options > Apple Partition Maps).
    2) That left me with Untitled 1 and Untitled 2 on the FireWire 1TB.
    3) During the time that the Dying Slave was still running:
    • I used Super Duper (Tiger version) to Clone the Original Slave (10.4.9) onto the Untitled 2 partition (Saving all files and folders)
    • I used Super Duper (Tiger version) to Clone the new 160 GB WD drive (10.4.11) I bought was Cloned onto the Untitled 1 partition (saving all files and folders).
    Now:
    4) I installed the Panther version of Carbon Copy Cloner onto the original 40 GB drive (10.3.9) and it opened.
    5) My first try was to make an exact copy without completely erasing the Destination Disk.
Source Disk > Untitled 2 and Target Disk > WD_HD
    7) The result was a mix of what was on the WD_HD (160 GB) and the Untitled 2 partition. I could not get into the user I needed and open the appropriate software.
    8) I tried that again by choosing the option of erasing the Destination Disk before the Cloning process. Yet again, Both partitions seem to be included onto the Cloned WD_HD disk. Argh! I have no access to the user I need to get to. The new users home Icon is there but the other user’s icon is a folder and I cannot access it. Even my administrative user name and password combination doesn’t work. Argh!
    What am I doing wrong?
Super Duper on my Mac Pro (Tiger and Leopard) worked so well… Sob, Snif, Sigh!
It had asked me to name for the Destination Disk and that was great. I guess Carbon Copy Cloner does work the same way… Sob, Snif, Sigh!
Is it possible that the Partitions get Cloned as Partitions instead of the Actual “Save all files and Folders” as is ?
Is there a solution I am too blind to see ?
My Dad is the one using the G4 but he is loosing faith in it and I am trying to avoid him slipping to the Dark Side (PC world). He is loosing faith in the Mac technology.

  • Best disk cloning software

I need to upgrade the hard drive on my 2008 Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)).
I would like to clone the replacement disk using a USB-SATA adapter before installation.  What is the best  cloning software to use?
    Thanks

    Use Disk Utility, primarily.
    Carbon Copy Cloner, secondarily.

  • Why is software free?

It depends on the free software, but often tools are offered for free in the hope that you buy the add-on services. For example, a backup tool may encourage you to use a specific backup storage solution (online backup, NAS drives, etc.). Other tools come free with certain types of hardware (yes, hard drive tools are an example), so you can really only use them with the hardware they came with.
I think very often it's about giving something away for free in the hope that you buy into the ancillary solutions.

Hey all, this is a topic some other friends in the IT industry and I have been debating for some time and wanted to get all your thoughts on it, especially with the free release of Windows 10. I want to preface this by saying I don't for for a software company and do use some free products as well. Why is software free? Why are solutions such as Veeam Desktops backup, Unitrends backup, other backup solutions, etc. free? Why is ESX/Hyper-V free? Why is gmail/google apps free? Why are mobile device apps free? Why are some monitoring solutions free? Why is Spiceworks free? Plus a thousand more examples....Yes some use advertising, others have limitations; but honestly many many companies do just fine with them and basically running their IT infrastructure simply on a just hardware costs (OS costs aside but you can get get this for free if...

    $30? on $2500 purchase.
besides, LION is still sortof not quite has a bit beta around the edges and not ready for business production work or workstations.
I thnk they have always come out 6 months too soon and when 10.3.2 or later, .4.3+ etc and same here 10.7.2 maybe or more like .3 as well.
10.7.0? no thanks. They did you a favor. now make sure your software is ready, no PPC, that it has something you need. And use dual boot and only for testing for now. Seriously.

  • Recommended forensic/ file recovery software (free)

    Hi,
I've recently had a catastrophic error with a hard drive which meant I had to erase my hard drive and reinstall OS X fresh. I have a number of files, specifically photos, that I need to recover and I'm familiar with some Windows (boo... hiss) products such as Disk Digger but there appear to be a bit more sparse for OS X.
the only product I can find that gets some recommendations is EaseUS but it's not cheap @ $99. That said, I'd pay it if it really does do the business. As there is an abundance of free Windows alternatives I'm hoping there is something that will do the job for free.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

    Try their free option first
    http://www.easeus.com/mac-data-recovery-software/
If it works, $89 is cheap if it recovers needed files.
Having to use a data recovery specialist can easily cost you hundreds of dollars if not more.

  • Is restoring Ipad Software free? Can i go to an iCenter to restore it? I own an Ipad air 32.

I own an Ipad Air wifi+Cellular. I upgraded it to 7.0.6. I dont know if the software was downloaded correctly. Is restoring software available in an iCenter? If it is, is it free?

If it wasn't downloaded correctly it wouldn't install.
You should contact the iCenter (whatever that is) and ask if they charge for technical help.

  • Mountain lion software free

So I just got a new Imac. While I was at the apple store the manager told me I could buy the mountain lion software or I could jump through a few hoops to get it for free. Well he told me to come here and said you guys would be able to help.

let me get this straight..a manager at an Apple store referred you here for help?  Sounds strange.  Also, a new iMac should already have Mountain Lion preinstalled, as it was released this past July.

  • Virus scan software free

    experiencing difficulty w/ laptop
attempting to back up and update os software.
checked permissions and now feel the computer is running sluggish ?
any free virus scan software recommmended?

Regarding anti-virus software, and how to protect yourself against malware, see my Mac Malware Guide.
However, your problems are undoubtedly not related to any kind of malware. You'll need to provide more details about what's going on for us to suggest anything specific, but you can start with my Mac Performance Guide.
Note that if you're having performance issues, you should under no circumstances add any anti-virus software until the problem is resolved, as having anti-virus software running will probably just make the problems worse.

  • Cloning software

I have a dual-boot MacBook Pro with OS X (Mountain Lion) and Windows (8) installed. I would like to back up this system so that I could, if necessary, restore it and have both partitions bootable. But I don't know if there is any software that will restore a dual-boot system so that both partitions are still bootable. CarbonCopy Cloner says, in its FAQ section, that it will not do that. It will back up (and restore) the data on the Windows partition but will not be able to restore a bootable Windows partition. I don't know if Time Machine will do that. In fact I don't know if there is any software that will do that.
Can anyone tell me if there is software that will backup and restore a dual-boot system so that, after the restore, both partitions are still bootable?
    Thanks.

    > You won't find any application that will be able to back up both Mac OS X and Windows volumes, knowing that
    > both volumes require different formats, and one of them is not supported by OS X in order to write in it.
Thank you for the response. I did not know that there was no software that would do that so I have learned something.
As an aside I don't know why a clever piece of backup software could not format one partition with HFS, the second with NTFS and write the data back to those partitions, but things are as they are. Thanks for your answer. Now, at least, I know.
    > To back up your OS X partition, the best way is to use Disk Utility's Restore feature or Carbon Copy Cloner,
    > and to back up the Windows partition, you have to use WinClone. Time Machine won't make clones, but Disk
    > Utility will
I have CarbonCopy Cloner. I will look for WinClone although I suppose any windows backup system might work. I already have licenses for Aconis.
I know Carbon Copy Cloner will boot from a clone so that I could use it to restore from that backup. What about WinClone? Does it create a bootable bacvkup? If not, how do I restore using it if the partition is no longer bootable?
Thanks again for your response and for the information.

  • Final Cut software free trial that is compatible with older macs?

Is there any way to get a free trial of an older version of Final Cut Pro...one that is compatible with an osx 10.6.8?

    No.
The only free trial is the current version FCP X 10.1.1.
You need a late model Mac and Mavericks OS.
You best bet is to hunt around for a used version of Final Cut Express or Final Cut Studio depending on budget.
