Cloning tool

Help! My cloning tool doesn't work. I select it, and then I put my circle on the picture. Immediately a box pops up saying I can't use the cloning tool until I hit alt/click to choose a spot to work on. But if I hit alt the box appears again. It won't let me do anything.

I see that you meant go to "edit", not editor! So I did what you told me to do - reset preference.
I brought the picture back. The clone was already highlighted. I went to the picture and hit alt/click on the grey part (the part I wanted to use to cover something up). It created another picture that could slide around over the picture that was there. Is that a good thing?!

Basis work for SAP system copy using DB2 cloning tool

My company is using the DB2 cloning tool, formerly from MainStar. Our DBAs have used this tool to create a clone of a technical sandbox (ST1) to another DB2 instance (SZ1).
I am reading through the System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 2004s SR2 ABAP+Java guide and trying to follow the steps.
As information, our application servers are currently running on zLinux and I am trying to do a system copy of an HA ABAP+Java SID.
Since we have used the cloning tool, which I would equate to a homogeneous system copy using database specific tools, the guide looks like it says I can skip the Export Preparation and Table Splitting Preparation steps. The only other step for the source system is the Database and Central Instance Export.
When I execute this step, it creates a dump of the database. This seems useless as we already have a cloned copy of the database.
Does anyone have the list of Basis tasks for a system copy when the DB2 cloning tool is used?

Nevermind. If someone sets:
rdisp/j2ee_start = 0
in an ABAP+Java system, sapinst behaves strangely during the system export and does not give the option to only dump the filesystem. Bug?

Problem with Stamp Cloning Tool in CS5?

I am having the darndest problem that I've never encountered before. I am using the cloning tool in CS5 and I am trying to stamp clone one part of the photo and clone it to another part of the photo. The problem is that after I option click and then drag it to the part I need, dark spots show up instead? What is wrong here? Below is an example. Thanks.

We can't quite see it in your image, but have you got the Blend mode for the clone tool set for Difference perhaps? Otherwise go to the dropdown top let of Options bar, and see if you have any presets for that tool, and reset it. If none of that helps, time to reset the Preference file (Shift Cmd Opt as you open Photoshop)

Cloning Tool in Elements 9 ?

Hi,
I’m having a problem using the cloning tool in PE9. I select the Clone Stamp Tool, place the cursor over the area I want to copy from and press the Alt key and left click the mouse.
Now my problem starts once I let go the Alt key and try to move the cursor over to the area I want to clone out the whole picture moves with the cursor, it looks like a top layer moving but I’m not working with layers. The cursor remains in the same relative position as where I Alt clicked it.
Obviously I’ve messed up a setting somewhere but for the life of me I do not know where to look.
Could anyone assist.

Your probably seeing the clone source overlay. With the clone tool selected you can set the
options for the clone source overlay. You might try checking show overlay and checking clipped.
Resetting the clone tool doesn't effect those settings.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were some compatibility issues with v1.5 and Tiger... they are several years apart and Tiger uses very different underlying architecture than earlier versions from Jaguar's era.
If you can build a disc image from v1.5 then you could burn that using Toast, but as long as Toast is recent enough to list DVD in it's output options you should be OK.
If you can only build, and have the two folders sitting there, you can still use Toast. As I recall, you need to look in the 'Other' dropdown menu in that version of Toast, and select DVD from there. You need to ensure that this is a UDF disc (I can't now remember if that was in the advanced settings for Toast or listed in that drop down), and once set you drage the Audio_TS and Video_TS folder into the Toast window. As long as the disc you create is UDF, and that those two folders are at the root of the disc, then you should be OK to create a DVD that will play in a set top player.

Cloning tool haywire

I am having a problem with my clone stamp tool on Elements 11. When I Alt/Click to isolate an area to be cloned, the ENTIRE frame is cut out and moves around the screen. This has never happened previously. How do I fix?

Cloning tool causes keyboard not to work.

Every time I use the cloning stamp tool to edit a file, sometimes I hear a piano-like sound and my keyboard won't work. I have a Mac running Yosemite but even before the upgrade it did that. I'm using Creative Cloud but had CS4 and it did it with those too. Is it a glitch? Is anyone else having this issue?
Under tags there seems to be a 'cloning stamp bug' choice. Then I'm not crazy! So, what's the solution?

Cloning tool doesn't work...

I can't get my clone tool to work on Photoshop CS5. Never had a problem in the older versions. Is there something different about how it works in this one?

You can try this as well
Mac
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe Photoshop CS# Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
PC
1. Quit Illustrator.
2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS# Settings folder.
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

I have Photoshop elements 9, when using the cloning tool. It grabs something else and shoots it across photo ?

Did it work in previous sessions? If so, suggest that you reset the tool.
To do that, there should be a little arrow on the tool's option bar, top left. Click on it, then reset.

Spot Healing Brush strangely acting as a cloning tool

I removed the text within the speech bubble below, then I applied the Spot Healing Brush to remove the character outlines left over. The speech bubble has gradient pink background color, and that's what I was expecting to see after my spot healing brush application, not weird images coming from the lady's body.

Cloning stamp tool causes ae to freeze

I have just begun a project in AE CS4 where I am using the cloning tool for the first time. I have used this tool extensively in Photoshop with no problems. But in AE the program freezes for no apparent reason. I can be using the stamp for the first time or the 50th time. There's no logical sequence of events that leads to a freeze. Sometimes I can recover without completely closing out by going to the Task Manager, but again there is no consistancy as to when it will recover and when it will freeze. While the tool is working, it is performing just fine.
I have just upgraded to Win7 Premium, so I have no history with this tool in earlier versions. I have an ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics card with 512mb vram. My system has 4gb of memory. All of my drivers are updated and I performed a clean install of Win7.
One other thing I noticed when I began using Task Manager to try to recover is that while there is only one instance of Adobe After Effects listing under Applications, there are usually 5 instances of "AfterEffects.exe *32" listed under the Processes. Four instances in this project show a usage of 163mb and one shows 287mb. This last one is the only one that ever indicates any activity under the CPU column. Is this correct?

I've had a similar problem.
I encountered it on an iMac, stats look like this:
2.8GHz Intel Quad-Core i7
8GB DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512Mb
etc,etc.
Mine would crash a 42 frames in, then if I started a new comp from within the project it would freeze every 15 frames.
I was very mad about it. I'll try the updates and see if it still happens.

How can I use some of the image i am working on to paint with? like if I wanted to give someone an extra eye in the forehead, ow could i then paint their own i in the forehead? I know there is a paint tool for that, i just can't find it ... :/

It sounds like you are talking about the cloning tool?
Tool looks like this:
Then when selected you can change the size of the brush and using Alt (windows) and Command (Mac) to select your region you want to copy then start to create you cloned image.

Adobe Connect does not show tool pointer/cursor when sharing Photoshop...

I am an online instructor and one of the courses I teach is a Photoshop course. Each week I host a Live Lecture session where we use Adobe Connect to demonstrate techniques and tools in Photoshop CS6.
I am receiving several complaints from students because Adobe Connect does not correctly show my cursor/pointer when it changes for each tool in Photoshop. All the students see is an arrow with a small icon of a face/monitor.
This is confusing to the students, because I am trying to demonstrate how to use a tool and they are unable to see the actual tool. For example, when I select the brush tool - they should be able to see the brush circle as the cursor. I then demonstrate how to resize the brush - but they cannot see it. Another example is any of the healing/cloning tools. If I select the healing brush tool, they cannot see the circle (brush). I then demonstrate how to record a healing point by selecting the Option (alt) key - but again the students cannot see the pointer change to the crosshairs to record the healing point - as all they see is the arrow with icon at all times.
Students are complaining that they are not able to comprehend what I am demonstrating because they are not able to get the full affect of the demonstration without seeing it how it should be. Prior to switching to Adobe Connect, we used WebEx - which showed the students everything correctly as I was demonstrating it. I was amazed to learn that Adobe Connect does not show everything - especially since I am using another Adobe program within Adobe Connect - you would think they would be fully compatible and able to show everything.

I just saw this option for the first time last week. Very exciting to see it finally in Connect! There is a small amount of lag for the viewers, but nothing that can't be compensated for.
