Cloning without shutting down the db
Hi,
Can you please suggest how to clone apps and db without shutting down the database? Apps is just copying the files, is there a recommended way to do the db cloning without shutting down the db.
Updating the instance details:
db - 10.2.0.4 on RHEL
apps - 11.5.10.2

You can find all the steps in the documentation (using RMAN or Hot backup).

SAP System copy without shutting down the source and the target system
Hi,
We need to need to System refresh without shutting down both the source and the target system, i read the docs from SAP looks like we need to shutdown the source system during export and import phase, is there any way to do the system refresh without shutting down the system.
SathishHi,
Think a little bit about what is a database and you'll get the answer that what you "need to need" is impossible.
Of course it is possible to keep the source running (hopefully, because ususally it is the production system !) by using an online backup, but you need to stop the target system because you will restore a backup on it.
If you use the export/import way, you have to stop both source and target system.

Is it possible to kill a (last) task without shut down the hole App?
Is it possible to kill a (last) task without shut down the hole App?
For example you wanna open/import something in Adobe AE and the finderdialog hangs.
You dont have any chance to save your work before quit the app.
May it could be a code in Terminal or something like else.
So, is it possible to whrite it down for me please?
thx frankYou can kill any individual process by using Activity Monitor, selecting the process, and using the Kill Process command. The location and precise phrasing of the command will vary by version of OS X; in Mavericks it's the "x" button at the upper-left corner of the screen.
If it's some part of the application that has hung, though, it's highly probable that killing a process associated with the application will bring down the entire program. In such as case there's almost never any option. In the case of the application hanging in the file open/save dialog, then I don't believe that there will be any way you can recover without forcing the entire application to quit.

Can't open Elements 8 more than once without shutting down the computer
After starting up my computer, I can open Elements 8 (organizer and/or editor) and work as usual. However, if I close the program, then check email or work on something else, and then I decide to open Elements again, I get the opening screen, click Organizer, and it just disappears. When I shut down the computer, it says there are programs waiting to close, but it shuts down quickly despite that. Once I have restarted, all is normal again, until I decide to open Elements twice.
I have Windows 7 professional.
Do I need to reinstall Elements 8?
CamIt sounds like the Organizer and Editor aren't closing all the way, which makes it so you can't re-open them.
To know for sure if this is the case, after you close either program, open Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC), go the Processes tab, click the option at the bottom to show processes from all users, and then scan the list for PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and/or PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe.
If there, then that means they aren't getting closed.
As a temporary workaround until you find out why they won't close, you can end the process in Task Manager instead of rebooting the computer.
As for the cause, it is possible that something else you have running in the background, perhaps security software, is causing the issue. To determine if that's the case, restart the computer without any startup items or non-essential services, and then run Elements 8. Here are some instructions:
Windows 7/Vista: http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb404913_en-us
Windows XP: http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb404984_en-us
If you can close and re-open the Editor/Organizer properly without anything else running, then something was preventing the program from closing properly. Use a process of elimination to determine what; something similar to this method:
Open the System Configuration utility.
Re-enable approximately half of the items that were disabled.
Click OK, and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Check if you can close and re-open the Editor/Organizer.
If you can't anymore, open the System Configuration utility and disable half of the most recently enabled items.
If you can still, open the System Configuration utility and re-enable half of the remaining items.
Go back to Step 3, and continue dividing the items into halves until you have determined which startup item or service is causing the issue.
Once you have isolated the problematic startup item or service, contact its manufacturer for an update or configuration information, or leave it disabled.

I use Firefox for all our online bill statements. When I go to my Charter One bank account and press view e-statements, firefox does not view these statements, it has started to show pages that are blank and the tab is say charterone.com....dafault/???????(not
sure what is after default) After shutting down and restarting, my downloads are loaded with these blank pages that I've been deleting--hundreds of these. How do I stop this from happening every time I want to view my account statements?Hi,
Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20keeps%20opening%20many%20tabs%20or%20windows this]. -
It won't eject the Ipod without shutting down the entire laptop....
I have what I guess is the 'classic' 30g iPod it has no problems syncing at all my problem comes in when I try to 'eject' it. I have tried getting itunes to 'eject' and the response comes up:
"The iPod _ cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
This happens if Itunes is the only thing running OR when I shut Itunes down and try to eject it with the icon in the task bar (blonde I don't know what it's called but a screen comes up and you click the 'stop' button and it's supposed to turn lose of things that you connect with the usb cord) and I get the same message "other applications are using the ipod shut down all applications and try again later"
I have tried starting the laptop then itunes and connecting the iPod or running half a dozen different things it makes no difference. The ONLY way I have found so far is to completely shut it down (restarting the comp doesn't give me enough time to get it unplugged before the laptop 'grabs' it again and shows the do not disconnect screen) the ONLY thing I currently have 'syncing' to the ipod is music... no pictures, no calendars, and no contacts.
I have downloaded the newest updates for both the Ipod and Itunes.... any one know why it's doing this and how to make it quit? .... having to shut everything down just to make this 'turn loose' is getting old real quick and I would like to have contacts, calendars, and pictures back.Fair enough. Another thought along similar lines ... even though you're getting a slightly different set of messages, the sorts of applications discussed in the following document are also worth checking on:
Windows Vista "No Disk" or "Exception Processing Message" alert occurs when ejecting iPod after enabling disk use
... and also the application discussed in the following thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6828218#6828218
(Thinking about the latter one, because if it's a background process that is checking the iPod, then that might cause grief even though your Task Manager is not showing that any other applications are running.) -
This happens during almost every session I am online with Firefox on this computer alone. I have been using FF for years without issue.
Way too complicated to solve the problem of "firefox is already running ....etc." and there must be a more simple solution to this problem which occurs once in awhile.
It seems to me that Mozilla developers can find a better solution and one that allows control-alternate-delete to fix the problem.
Otherwise, it is just resort to the old reboot solution. -
When I have multiple windows I will click on a site and an computerized voice will tell me what the website is. It is as if everything I am doing is getting a voice over from Firefox. I want to disable that aspect without it causing any problems when I actually do need sound like watching shows on TV. Everytime I put the cursor on anything it will tell me what I am doing which I don't need.
Hi elamothe! It sounds like you just have VoiceOver turned on for your Mac. You can find VoiceOver by going to ''System Preferences->Universal Access->Seeing'' on your Mac, not in Firefox. This will allow you to disable VoiceOver.
CMD + F5 will toggle the setting as well.
Hopefully this helps! -
How to test Windows 2012 R2 DHCP Failover without shutting down the service?
How can I test the Win2012R2 DHCP Failover?
There is a command or script, that i could use to test if DHCP failover is working properly?
How to monitor the sync of the objects?
How to make sure that it will do the job, if required?
Or i have to really stop DHCP server main server and see the failover?Hello,
you have to keep in mind that this has ONLY effect for machines that request during the downtime a lease. So if your lease time is for example 8 hours a computer will ask after 4 hours for the renewal of the lease.
Means there is no problem for running machines during the test. You just need a computer to start after the service is shutdown on the first DHCP server, should take only some minutes to check if the fail over works. Then you could already start the service
again if you see the lease on the new server.

Formerly, an e-mail with a website, photo, etc. attachment that I opened required only that I click close tab return to my e-mail message. Since upgrading a few days ago, the only option present is to exit, which now requires re-opening firefox then my e-mail browser. Any website I am examining that I want to close automatically exits me from Firefox.
there should be an X on the right side of each tab. clicking on it should close that tab

Shut off screen without shutting down accelerometer in Touch
Due to Apple firmware limitations in the 2G iPod Touch, it is not possible to shut down the Touch screen and keep the accelerometer running, so running the Sleep Cycle application on the iPod Touch causes the screen to stay on all night and become very warm
Apple please please could you change the Touch firmware to support shutting off the screen without shutting down the accelerometer so that Sleep Cycle can be run on the Touch like it now runs on the 3G and 3GS iPhone.
This would open this excellent little application to the whole Touch market segment, making the developers very happy and allowing me to get up in the morning. This is a user to user forum and Apple will not hear you. You can address Apple directly here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html

I have been using my ipad2 to show video on my flatscreen using the Apple TV. Recently I find that once I use Apple TV I cannot switch back to the ipad for viewing even if I go back to the little rectangular screen and change the checkmark to ipad. Once this happens all my videos will only play through apple tv. If I shut down the ipad and restart it I come up in the ipad mode and can view it on the pad.
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Not really sure on this one, but one thought I have is how full is your iPad. Have you connected your iPad to iTunes recently. -
Question about shutting down the middle tier while leaving the DB up
Hi,
We just successfully upgraded 11.5.10.2 from running on 9.2.0.8 SOLARIS SPARC 32-bit to 11.2.0.1 SOLARIS SPARC 64-bit.
I am in the process of rewriting the backup scripts. We used to do a once-a-week backup (zip) of the middle tier directories,
after shutting down EVERYTHING cold (MT first, then DB listener, the DB). Our DB consultant likes hot-only backups of the
DB so we are going to keep the DB running all the time and always do hot backups from the DB, but keep MT cold backup.
We want to keep our MT cold backup so we retain our downtime window that users expect (Saturday night - Sun morning).
So my question is ---- is there any issue with shutting down the entire MT- only (adstpall.sh) -- but leaving the DB up?
When I do a adstrtal (via my script) the next morning--- everything should just start fine with no DB bonce having been done, right?
In the past, once I have the MT down, wait 5 min, kill any stray FND processes, I usually go on to bounce the database
"for good measure". I am 99% sure that I don't have to do this... and that there is no harm in "not" doing this, just need
some confirmation.
MH
One more piece of information - Our concurrent managers shut down cleanly almost all of the time without putting jobs on hold.
We don't have many users (< 60) and while we do have autoinvoice that runs every 5 min, I haven't had to do a big bounce
with cmclean.sql very often-- only about once or twice a year when users lock each others tables and the cleanest fix is to bounce
everything --very rarely.Hi,

Can we put RAC database in Archivelog mode without shutting down
All,
Can we put RAC database in Archivelog mode without shutting down.
Currently our new production database (2 node RAC) is in no archive log mode, Need to enable archive log in the database...
I believe we need to set the cluster_database=false and then put the DB in archive log mode then we need to bounce the database to take effect...
Just curious to know in 11gR2 ...Can we put the RAC database in archive log mode without any downtime ...?Even RAC or non-RAC, database should bounced and enable/disable archive log mode from mount status.

Tuxedo transaction branch in GMTREADY and cannot finishit without shutting down weblogic server
Trying to reproduce a problem in an application we are deployed a servlet in a
weblogic 8.1 sp2 server, doing the folowing:
1. Begin a transaction
2. Call a tuxedo service (tuxedo 6.5) via tuxedo gateway "A"
3. Call another tuxedo service (tuxedo 6.5) via tuxedo gateway "B"
4. Before commit the transaction in the servlet, we shutdown tuxedo gateway "B"
5. After commit transaction branch via gateway "A" remains indefinitely in GMTREADY
state, while transaction branch via gateway "B" gets GMTABRTONLY after timming
out.
After commit(that fail doing rollback), transaction is not reported like inflight
in weblogic server. We cannot finish transaction branch in GMTREADY state. Only
after shutdown weblogic server, and after an undetermined time(sometimes a lot)
transaction branch is rolled back.
While transaccion is not rolled back, all locks in DB remains active.
How we could finnish that branch without shutting down weblogic server, or, if
not, how we could control the time in witch transaction is rolled back?We open a case with BEA eSupport and the servlet problem was a bug. Engineering
got a
temporary patch that seems to solve the problem. The case continues trying to
solve our original problem (the servlet was to reproduce the situation).
Thank you very much.

Hi Jose,
Can you provide a little more information. In particular, what are the
JTA timeout
values configured for your WLS application? Did you set the interoperate
setting
to Yes under the WTC local access point's connection settings? When
you begin
the transaction in the servlet, do you specify a timeout value and if
not, do
you know what your thread's default transaction timeout value is?
If possible, can you post or e-mail your WLS's config.xml and the domain
configuration
files for the two Tuxedo domains (not the UBB files, although those would
be helpful
as well.)
Thanks,
Todd
