Close Adobe Reader 9 and Retry?
I've been try for well over an hour now to download Adobe Reader DC in place of Adobe Reader 9 and I still keep getting a prompt to close 9 and then click Retry. I do not have 9 open so I am wondering what are your experiences with this and what must I do to fix it, please? I'm on a desk top computer.
Hi Allen%20Wayne,
Could you please let me know what version of OS are you working on.
Once you install Adobe Reader DC, it will automatically remove the previously installed version.
But, you can manually uninstall Reader from your machine and then install Reader DC (if supported) from here:
Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions
Let me know.

I have created Editable PDF using itext(5.3.0) in java. I have used Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro. But in editable PDF combobox search is not working properly.
It's only search first character. My (admittedly old and slow) system did this too the first time I opened Reader 11, but it "unfroze" after about fifteen seconds, (an eternity in computing time, I know, but it did eventually open all the way) What you're seeing on the right is the "Tools" panel initializing. That's exactly where mine would freeze up on starting. Once it did finally open fully, I clicked the "Tools" link at the top to close the panel, and I opened and viewed a document that way, then closed reader. Now when I open Reader, the Tools panel doesn't initialize and it opens immediately.
Reboot and before you open anything else, open Reader. When you open it, DO NOT try to do anything with it until it fully opens, don't click anything, don't try to switch to another app. Give it time to open fully, and then click the Tools link to close it. Then, open and view a document, and close it. Close Reader and reopen it. the Tools panel should remain closed and Reader should open fully immediately. -
Adobe reader 10 and 11 crashes after 3-5 sec.
adobe reader 10 and 11 crashes after 3-5 sec. it newer gets fully opened, it just closes. the problem is all my pdf files on my computer. and they work fine on my other labtop. tryed to repair, remove, install many times
Can you try this next: navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (if you have Reader XI installed), or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (Reader XI on 64-bit Windows), and double-click on Eula.exe, then accept the license agreement.
Does that fix the problem? -
I have a Mac OS X and I'm trying to download Adobe Reader 11 and it won't open.
I have a Mac OS X and I'm trying to download Adobe Reader 11 and it won't open. I get it installed, however, when I click on the icon nothing opens. Please help!
Download AppZapper (it's a free trial - but once you see how it works, you'll agree it's worth the $12.95 to buy)
Install it and open it.
Drag the Reader.app from your Applications folder onto the AppZapper window
"Zap" the file and all asociated files.
Close AppZapper
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
If the AdobePDFviewer.plugin or AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files are present, trash them
Empty the trash
Download the Reader Installer again: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Mount the DMG and run the installer.
Launch Reader 11 from your Applications folder and accept the license agreement
Reader will run properly from here on out. -

I downloaded an upgrade to my adobe reader today, and ever since my search engine has switched to yahoo and wont change back to google. I have a macbook pro, help please? Does anyone know how I can change this back? I have tried through my settings but it doesnt work
Hi Timia,
If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.
Let me know if you still experience any issue.

Why can't I connect to the Internet on my Adobe Reader? And why do websites tell me I don't have Adobe downloaded when I have an updated version on my computer? It is an IPad,does that affect it?
Also, download and open the free Adobe Reader app. Then read the Help section to figure out how to use it.

Adobe Reader 9 and Mac OSX 10.5 - FDF Issue
I have an issue that only happens when using Adobe Reader 9 and Mac OSX 10.5.
When submitting a form from within a PDF, the FDF that gets sent is completely blank.
Tested on Mac OSX 10.4 with Adobe Reader 9 - no issue
Tested on Mac OSX 10.5 with Adobe Reader 8 - no issue
Tested on Mac OSC 10.5 with Adobe Professional 8 - no issue
It only seems to be a combination of OSX 10.5 and Reader 9. Does anyone have any clue about the settings of these two and what might be happening?
Any help is greatly appreciated.Mac OS 10.4.11: I could not open pdf docs today (12-24-08), uninstalled & installed Adobe Reader 9.0.0. pdf docs icons changed but open, however cannot open Reader from Applications and get: Adobe Reader
Version 9.0.0
Installing/fixing installation
Then immediately get this error message:
Adobe Reader could not install correctly.
Adobe Reader was unable to install a necessary component
and must quit.
Any help out there for me?
Thanks, Tony -
Saving PDF forms in Adobe Reader 8 and below
Hi everyone,
I've created a PDF form for a survey using Acrobat XI Pro, and I've also Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in and save). I've tried it on Reader 9, X and XI, and I'm able to fill out the form, save it and email it back to myself. I've also emailed it to a few of my friends to try out the form and email it back to me, and most of them are able to do so.
But the problem is one of my friends who's using Reader 8 is unable to save the completed form. This message comes out when he tries to save it:
"This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
I've tried reading about this problem online, but I can't seem to find a satisfactory answer anywhere. I'm not sure if anyone knows of a way to overcome this, or if it's just simply that Adobe Reader 8 and below are unable to save a PDF form.
Please help, I'm really at my wit's end.Windows Vista.
I'm trying to make sure my form works for every one of my respondents, as I can't be sure what kind of Reader versions each respondent will be using. -
Filling up a pdf form which I received as email. I opened it on my adobe reader 11 and filled up the highlighted fields. Yet when I click on the send via mail it says changes will not be included. How do I send the form with changes?
The add annotations field shows as not allowed in the security options. So how do I send this form back with the changes??I think you you need to click 'save' first, then it is saved to acrobat, where it will prompt to send.

I've deleted Adobe Reader 11 and rebooted and reinstalled Adobe Reader 11 and I still get the error message that 'Adobe Reader is blocked because it is out of date'. Using Windows XP with the latest updates (SP3).
Screenshots attached to email replies will not make it back to the forum; you need to login to the forum and post it in your topic using the camera icon in the editor.
Google Chrome is a problem:
if you use Chrome's own PDF viewer, the results are unpredictable.
if you use the Adobe Reader plugin with Chrome, it may reject (block) it if it is not the latest version. Reader 11.0.08 is the latest version for Windows XP, but Chrome may insist on the current version 11.0.10.
My suggestion; use a different browser! -
Not sure if this question is even posted anywhere. Don't know what to do next?
Hi Angelete,
I am so sorry for the inconvenience caused & will try to get this issue resolved.
Please follow the below steps :-
Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
Select the Processes tab, and select Show Processes From All Users.
Select any Adobe Reader process, and click End Process.
Repeat for all additional Adobe Reader processes.
Restart Windows & try to view the PDF's.
Let me know if you still experience any issue.

I have Adobe Reader XI and I tried to open a document download and a box appeared stating it was a password protected document ant requested a password. Were and how do I one?
Hi noswam123,
If a PDF file is password protected, the only way to open that document is with the password. You will have to get that password from the person who created the PDF.

Adobe Reader Version 9.1.1 - Unable to close Adobe Reader.
Using Firefox Version 3.0.10, under Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 32-bit, patched as of today.
I open a pdf file, Adobe Reader opens a new window, I can read/print pdf file.
I select "Close" (Red X in upper right hand corner.) nothing happens.
I select "File", select "Exit".
An Adobe Reader message window pops up with "This action cannot be performed from within an external window.".
I select "OK" message window goes away, but Adobe Reader is still there.
I then closed Firefox.
Try to close Adobe Reader again with the same results.
Reboot the system.
Open Firefox, select another web site, open a pdf, read/print pdf file.
Try to close Adobe Reader, same results.
This started after Adobe Reader was updated to version 9.1.1.
Any ideas? It looks like ZoneAlarm Security Suites product Force Field with Virtualization Enabled may have something to do with strange behaviour.
When I just open pdf files that are on the local machine, I don't have a problem, just on remote systems.
I already know ZoneAlarm Support will blame this on Adobe Readers most recent update, since it worked with the previous version of Adobe Reader.
Any ideas?
