Close all ports but 1521 for Oracle 11g XE

Hello,
After the Oracle 11g installation I tried to make all ports but 1521 visible only to localhost. Unfortunately I could not figure out if it's possible to close also this ones:
<pre>
<b> Port/Prot. Process</b>
<BR> 41293/tcp xe_d000_XE
<BR> 28085/udp xe_mmon_XE
</pre>
What are these processes doing? Is it possible/meaningful to configure the server so that they listen only on the localhost interface?
Thanks a lot.

As mentioned earlier, on the dispatcher port ...
can be removed by clearing the Dispatchers parameteri.e. save the dispatchers and shared_servers parameters setting to enable it later ...
sqlplus /nolog
conn /as sysdba;
show parameter dispat
... dispatchers ... (PROTOCOL=TCP) (SERVICE=XEXDB)
show parameter shared_
... shared_servers ... 4
alter system reset dispatchers scope=spfile;
alter system reset shared_servers scope=spfile;
shutdown immediate;
startup;
And check lsnrctl services output. All dispatcher(s) and XEXDB items should be gone, as well as the d000 dispatcher process and the open TCP port.
But that breaks Apex, the web pages will no longer work since apex needs a couple shared server settings to handle http requests. So if you don't want Apex, clear dispatchers and shared_server parameters. Otherwise, dispatcher(s) need a TCP port and there's no way I'm aware of that can halt that behavior.

  • Optimal NTFS block size for Oracle 11G on Windows 2008 R2 (OLTP)

    Hi All,
    We are currently setting up an Oracle 11G instance on a Windows 2008 R2 server and were looking to see if there was an optimal NTFS block size. I've read the following: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/win.112/e10845/specs.htm
    But it only mentioned the block sizes that can be used (2k - 16k). And basically what i got out of it, was the different block szes affect the max # of database files possible for each database.
    Is there an optimal NTFS block size for Oracle 11G OLTP system on Windows?
    Thanks in advance

    Is there an optimal NTFS block size for Oracle 11G OLTP system on Windows?ideally FS block size should be equal to Oracle tablespace block size.
    or at least be N times less than Oracle block size.
    For example - if Oracle BS=8K then NTFS BS better to be 8K but also can be 4K or 2K.
    Also both must be 1 to N times of Disk sector size. Older disks had sectors 512 bytes.
    Contemporary HDDs have internal sector size 4K. Usually.

  • RV042 - How to close all ports and leave some specific open

    Hello everybody,
    Here is the scenario of my network:
    - A company with 20 branches in Rio de Janeiro area. The main servers are in a datacenter located in downtown.
    Each branch has a RV042 router with firmware version 1.3.12.19-tm (Feb 13 2009 13:03:21) installed.
    All users in this network have a proxy configuration pointing to proxy.[blah].com.br port 3128.
    The HTTP/HTTPS traffic should go through proxy only.
    The network settings for every RV042 are similar:
    RV042 LAN IP = 172.16.***.1 /24.
    RV042 WAN IP = 192.***.***.*** /30.
    Network Setting Status
    LAN IP: 172.16.***.1 /24
    WAN1 IP: 192.168.***.*** /30
    WAN2 IP: Not used
    Mode: Router
    DNS(WAN1): 208.67.220.220 / 208.67.222.222 [OpenDNS Service]
    DNS(WAN2): Not used
    Firewall Setting Status
    SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection): On
    DoS (Denial of Service): On
    Block WAN Request: On
    Firewall -> Access Rules Section: Please see below
    The problem:
    - Some "smart" users were caught using Ultrasurf application, which changes the proxy settings to go through port 9666 or even 443.
    In other machines, we've found some black proxies [for example: 212.46.27.142 port 8080].
    My objective:
    - To close all ports in Firewall -> Access Rules section and grant permission only to some selected and specified ports.
    - To redirect all HTTP/HTTPS connections to go to proxy's IP address only.
    Gentlemen, could you please tell me which Access Rules can I set in these RV042s in order to block and prevent these users to continue abusing this network? Is there anything else am I missing?
    P.S.: The users who were caught using Ultrasurf were fired. ;-)
    I gladly appreciate your comments.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luciano

    Hello Randy,
    Thanks for your answer. But let me tell you better. In this scenario, all machines in LAN can use RDP and VNC normally.
    I want to block everything else, just to avoid users to try using other ports.
    You might want to try Deny all traffic out, except for the PC's you need  to use RDP, and then only allow 80, and 443 to the proxy.[blah].com.br  port 3128. This way all web traffic would have to pass through that  proxy, otherwise it would be denied.
    In this network, we use VNC to provide remote IT support to users in these branches.
    They use RDP to access some servers in the datacenter.
    I think that the rule below line 6 is letting users go and traverse the proxy.
    Priority    Policy Name    Enable    Action    Service        Source Iface    Source    Destination        Time    Day
    *                                                  Allow    All Traffic [1]             LAN     Any        Any                  Always
    How can I modify this access rule? It seems it cannot be altered.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luciano

  • DB connection issue for Oracle 11g with jdk1.3

    Hi Experts,
    I have jdk1.3 installed. I need to connect to Oracle 11g, but there is no driver class for Oracle 11g with jdk1.3. I have Classes12.jar for Oracle 9i with jdk1.3. When I try to connect to Oracle 11g with jdk1.3 using Classes12.jar, I get the below error
    Error:
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Connection refused(DESCRIPTION=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=185599744)(ERR=12514)(ERROR_STACK=(ERROR=(CODE=12514)(EMFI=4))))

    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection.<init>(OracleConnection.java:334)....
    Please help to solve this issue. This is urgent.
    Thanks.

    "connection refused" is quite a clear error message;
    - either you configure a wrong host name or port number
    - the database isn't even running
    - a firewall is blocking you
    In any case no connection can be made to the database, which is hardly a programming or driver problem. You'll have to figure out for whatever external reason you cannot create a connection to the database. Good luck.

  • Procedure for creating logical standyby database for oracle 11g?

    Hi all,
    can anybody provide me docs /procedure for creating logical standby databse for oracle 11g standard edition.
    Aravind

    Aravind,
    1. The Oracle Standard Edition does not have standby mechanism, you should do it manually or go for Enterprise Edition.
    2. It's rather a question for General Database Discussions instead of Peoplesoft.
    Any further question regarding that point, please post out there.

  • Searching for a Reporting Tool for Oracle 11g

    Hello,
    I have created several OLAP-Cubes with the Analytic Workspace 11.1.0.7.0B on the Oracle Database 11g. Now I need a Tool for Creating some Reporting. I have Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-In Version 10.1.2.3 for Microsoft Excel. I have installed it and I have a Connection to the Database. But on the Query-Assistent, I can't see my Measures and Dimensions. I guess it is because of the Version.
    My Questions are:
    - Is there any BI Spreadsheet in Version 11?
    - Is there any other Reporting-Possibility with another Tool for Oracle 11g? I couldn't find anything yet.
    I am very happy, if there is anyone who can answer my questions.

    I have no knowledge of BI publisher but if you install OBIEE then you will have option to install BI publisher also. You can download OBIEE from here.
    After installation you can look at following post to see the set up required to access olap cubes.

  • Bandwidth requirec for Oracle 11g ADF application

    Hi
    What is the idel bandwidth recomend for oracle 11g ADF web application .

    Can't be answered without knowledge of the app you are talking about.
    100 user doesn't mean they are all active at once and even if they are it depends on how much data your app processes. This can't be answered from out point of view.
    So your task is to find out how many users are doing what at a given time interval and then find out how much data is processed (there are plenty of tools available to measure this).
    How a bout a test run with e.g. 10 users doing normal work with our app, measure the amount of data and calculate the bandwidth from there. Don't forget to take service level agreements (e.g. a page has to be submitted in x seconds) into your calculations.

  • When is delete all obsolete backups triggered in Oracle 11g DB

    I have a query as to when delete all obsolete backups triggered in Oracle 11g DB. We changed the RMAN retention policy to 10 days from 14 days in our setup. Is it triggered manually by delete all obsolete from Availablity->Manage Current Backups in OEM or is it triggered automatically every time RMAN backup is done?
    I hope, my question is clear.
    Please revert with the reply to my query.

    First, I would never manage my backups in OEM.  When the crunch comes at 2:00 am, I don't want ever more moving parts to be involved in recovery.
    Second, the only thing approaching a "triggering" of deletion of backups is if your backups are in the FRA ... rman will, at the time of making a backup .. attempt to delete obsolete backups if necessary to free up space in the FRA.
    Other than that, oboslete backups are only deleted in response to a direct DELETE OBSOLETE command.  This command may optionally ( as shown by TigerDBA) include a run-time obsolesence rule, or it may depend on the standing configuration.
    Another thing to note is that backups are NOT marked as obsolete.  They are EVALUATED for obsolescence in response to a DELETE OBSOLETE or REPORT OBSOLETE command.
    And one final thing to not is that all recovery must begin with a full backup.  That would be the most recent full (or level 0 incremental) backup prior to the point in time to which you need to recover.  That means the most recent full (or level 0 incremental) backup will never be considered obsolete, regardless of how old it is.

    All this sounds like you are confused about the general nature of MIDI Continuous Controllers (MIDI CC). The MIDI specification allows for 128 different CC's: CC0 to CC127. Some are typically "preallocated" to 'standard functions: CC1= Modulation, CC7=Volume, CC10+Pan, CC11= 'Expression'. Some act as switches such as 'Sustain' CC64.
    frodojon wrote:
    Everything appears to be scaled from -63 to +64 if that's what you mean by scaling?  What do you mean by MIDI CC7?
    Mainstage works with MIDI CC's generally in a number of ways:
    Some standard ones are automatically passed through to all MIDI/Instrument channels unless you specifically block them. Others are not passed through unless you specifically map them to something.
    This mapping can be done basically two ways (with MS 2.2):
    a) Make a Screen Control in Layout mode, and assign it to a particular incoming MIDI CC message. Then, you can map this Screeen Control to a variety of parameters such as the volume of a particular channel strip.
    b) With MS 2.2, you can do the above Assign and Mapping directly, without the need for Screen Controls as an 'intermediary'.
    frodojon wrote:

    Yes.
    It sounds to me like you have an issue where you have several hardware controls on your Keyboard set up to transmit the same MIDI CC. This is probably not a good idea, and it would be much better if you assigned them to transmit different CC messages (CC1 for Modulation and probably CC11 for the Expression (though you may want to set the pedal to some other number instead.
    Once you are transmitting different CC messages, you will be able to Assign and Map much more flexibly:
    for example, you could one to control the overall output volume at Concert Level in MS, whilst the other controls the volume of a specific channel within a Patch.
    Your issue of layered patches is one of "Scaling": one Screen Control (assigned to an incoming MIDI CC message) needs to alter the ranges of different channel strips to different amounts. You can set this up by using multiple mappings for one Control, each set to work over a particular range (for example a goes from -20 to 0 whilst b goes from -30 to -20 etc.).

    Hi Raghavendra, welcome to the forum!
    I suggest you remove you email from your post to avoid recieveing undesired emails.
    There are two OCA paths, OCA Developer or OCA DBA.
    For both paths you need to take one of the following SQL exams:
    1z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i SQL (this is an outdated exam)
    or
    1z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert (more advanced exam recommended for developers/dbas with SQL experience)
    or
    1z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I (recommended for beginners or people with average experience in SQL)
    After passing one of these exams, if you want to take the OCA DBA path you need to do the:
    1z0-052 Administration I exam
    After passing one of the SQL exams, if you want to take the OCA Developer path you need one of the:
    1z0-147 Program with PL/SQL (outdated exam)
    or
