Close all TOC books

Is it possible to add a script that closes all the TOC books
at once? My project is getting bigger and we are getting lost in a
sea of TOC books and pages.
Thanks for the assistance!

Your requirements are
1. I need a Expand all/ Collapse all button(s) on the toolbar, which will open and close all books in the ToC. Is it possible to have one? How?
Not something I have ever seen.
2. Is it possible to have a different color for the visited topics on the ToC? How?
Same answer.
Sorry.

  • Any way to move all TOC topics to a book without doing each one individually?

I am in the process of creating a combination TOC that includes TOCs from the books that were added by reference to my RH project.
The first step in creating a combination TOC is to create a New TOC book in each individual book TOC and then move the topics in that TOC under the book, then create the combination TOC.  Is there any quick and easy way to move topics into a book without doing it individually?  I have several hundred topics and it sure would save time.
    Thanks as always.

Faster than one by one, do this:
Open a TOC containing the topics you want.
Select all topics and copy them (CTRL-A, CTRL-C).
Open the TOC you want to put topics into.
    Paste (CTRL-V).

  • Close All Books

    Hello,
I'm building a rather large WebHelp Pro system. Forward and
backward buttons won't fit logically with the structure and I'm
planning on not them. Instead users will have to use the book tree
to navigate. Because there are so many sub-books/topics I was
wondering if there was a way to create a button the user could
click to collapse all the books (to the closed position) and thus
return them to the initial view.
I was thinking I might be able to use a button linked to a
    redirect page but...?
    Thanks in advance - Nick
PS - I know that Dreamweaver's help (I think this is
WinHelp?) only lets you open one book at a time and automatically
closes anything else. This would also be acceptable.

    Hi Nick
Unfortunately, the Technical Note Brian pointed you to would
only apply to a compiled .CHM output.
You should easily be able to "collapse" all books by simply
constructing a link that would open the WebHelp Pro system as if
you were opening it for the first time. So whatever the link is
that generically opens the system, use that.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Expanding and Closing TOC books

Does anyone know how to auto-close TOC books after opening a
different TOC book when navigating through the Table of Contents so
they don't all stay open unless clicked again to close them?

    Hi again
Sorry, but my participation over in the Captviate forums has
me a bit on the terse side. I often find that it is best to simply
answer the question that was asked and I forget to offer up "best
practices". I've seen so many over there grow frustrated with
answers that contain things like "you should be doing it this way"
and I see comebacks that are angry and whatnot. So my reply style
    has changed a bit.
I should also say that when I use the Single Click option, I
also provide the Plus/Minus squares option too. Unfortunately, that
option doesn't become available until you first choose to Add Lines
from Root. The Plus/Minus Squares option allows the user to keep
multiple books open if they so choose.
    Cheers all... Rick

  • PRS600 ereader taking too much time to load all the books

Whenever I open My PRS600 from complete shutdown it takes too much time to load all the files which are present in Memory card. Is anyone else facing same issue?

    Hello,
Recently, I have been having some serious issues when it comes to my Sony PRS-600. I am running on a Windows 7 64-bit, and an updated Reader Library 3.3
The issue comes when transferring books to the e-reader from the library, and from the e-reader to a collection. The problem is that the software becomes intolerably slow while it's processing the command. The Reader Library software window grays out, displays (Not Working) and if clicked on it, shades to a white color and displays either "cancel operation" or "wait until program responds". If I do close the operation, it appears as if the e-reader doesn't follow the operation and still displays "Do not disconnect". Since I do not see any other way to disconnect (other than the eject option), I remove the USB plug which causes a bit more issues with the reader (such as removing all of my collections, for example!).
But anyway, that's not the main issue here. The main issue is that the book transferring is really slow. I need to wait a couple of minutes (or even more) just for the software to process. Moving just 1 MB of data requires so much time as if it's 1 GB. Sometimes it's random and does it fast, and sometimes the application is better not to be dealt with at all while it's processing the command. If I would inspect My Computer, the simple loading of the e-reader storage icons and information would make the Windows Explorer to "crash" (e.g, close all windows and then reopen them). It just happens that in all randomness even the creation of a collection makes the software slow.
So to recap: the reader software is slow when adding and moving books.
I hope someone will help me resolve this annoyance.
    Thank you,
    KQ

  • Close all open windows on desktop -- shortcut

Is there a shortcut to close all the windows on the desktop? Up to now I'm having to close each one individually. I'm talking about all types of windows (Safari, Address Book, plus other apps). Any suggestions?

I got the answer I wanted by searching the knowledge base for Tiger. Here is what I found:
My favorite for closing all windows, and not listed much:
option-command and just click on the desktop.
Much more natural then trying to get the W at the same time.

  • New TOC Book not appearing in WebHelp output

    Hi
My project is proceeding fairly well, considering I've only
been using RH for about six weeks - thanks, in no small part, to
the advice I've found in this forum. I'm hoping someone can help me
with a niggling problem I'm having.
My project is based on a textbook written by my colleagues.
RH has successfully imported all the header formatting from Word
and the resulting TOC is almost perfect. My problem is that my
header 1s link to sections of the book, so I don't have a header
that just gives the chapter name. If I do create these as header 1s
they give me a clickable entry in the TOC which leads to a page
    with no content.
I'd like to have an entry in the TOC that gives the chapter
name but which isn't clickable, i.e. is only there so users can
orient themselves and see what each section is about.
I thought I could do this by creating a new TOC book in the
TOC, but not linking it to any page. I've done this, saved
everything and generated afresh, but when I view the webhelp
layout, the book I just created doesn't appear in the TOC. Is there
a way I can do this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Colin

    Hi Colin.
You may be able to do just this with a bit of wizardry! Check
    out the RoboWizard's
    tips
'n tricks file. It has help on how to set-up redirect topics.
Create one of these and assign it to the book. The redirect topic
would then just redirect the user to another topic.

  • TOC Book Not Working Properly

Offering this info for anyone else who might run into a similar situation.  When reviewing the browse sequence for an RH 10 project, I noticed one topic (page) displaying where a TOC book should have been.  The topic being displayed was the topic associated with the book, but the book's subtopics were not being displayed.  The topic being displayed for the book included a link to a subtopic listed for the book in the RH project, but the link was dead.  The link for the topic worked fine when using the CTRL+W to view the topic from RH.  To resolve the issue, I tried deleting and re-adding the book.  Recompiled.  No change.  I repositioned the book (it happened to begin with the same few words as the two previously listed books, and I wanted to eliminate the possibilty of an issue based on beginning multiple books with the same text).  No change.  Deleted .cpd file (it was over 5MB), opened the project to recreate .cpd file, and then recompiled again.  No change. Copied and pasted text from all topics involved into new topics of the same screen name but assigned new .htm page names (so topic text and screen names were identical).  Updated links to match newly created topics.  Re-added book to TOC.  Recompiled.  This worked.  TOC book now displayed with subtopics, and link from main topic to subtopic was functional again.  Anyone else run into something like this, where a TOC book did not display correctly, possibly as a result of a corrupt topic/page within the book that appeared to work fine in RH project?

  • Webhelp RH8: TOC book not linking to topic

    Hi (again),
I seem to have another little issue.
In generating our helpsystem, we would like to have books that display general information when clicked and also display the subsequent topics. That all works fine, I link a topic to the TOC book and it displays the contents of the selected page.
However, when I only have a book (no topics), linking a topic does not work. In the output it displays as a page. Is there a way I can have a book linked to a topic while there are no other topics in that book?

Thanks RoboColum(n) for your pointer. Due to time limitations I could only look at it briefly and give it one try. Redirecting didn't work in this instance. I have a few redirect pages which work fine but so far I haven't managed to get a book to display when there is only one page in that book. For now I have avoided the problem by having an empty page when the book is clicked. Not pretty and I will be looking at this again when there is more time.

  • Plus/minus icon for TOC books

    Afternoon all,
So I see that in RH8, I can create a TOC. When in the RH8 application, the TOC Pod shows +/- or expand/contract icons to the left of each TOC book, with little dashed lines to each book/page.
But when I generate WebHelp, no such +/- icons appear.
Am I missing something? Or is the +/- just a feature of the TOC within RH8? I'd like them to display in my WebHelp output like they do in CHMs. I don't necessarily need the dashed lines.
Any clue you can bat my way...
    Thanks,
    Patrick

  • RH8 - TOC books won't collapse in output and search not working

I'm working on a RH8 project with a second author. When I last generated the primary layout (Webhelp),
I noticed that the TOC books will not collapse in the generated output.  Also, the Search feature is not
working (Search field is not displaying).  (See ATTACHED IMAGES)
Is there something in the Project Settings that could be causing this?  I am wondering if we somehow
checked a setting that would force the TOC to stay open in the generated output?
Also, I notice that the Search area seems to be displaying some index items and numbers?
Anyone have any trouble-shooting ideas?   I do know that when you initially setup or open a new
RH Project, you have to go through a series of dialogue boxes with various settings.  However, when
you go to Project Settings, you don't see all of those settings...  so I'm not sure where to trouble-shoot this...
    Any suggestions welcome - thanks!

  • TOC books don't open in Firefox

It has been a couple of months since the 'TOC books don't
open in Firefox' issue was raised, so I was hoping that someone
might be able to help with my problem that seems to be closely
    related...
Problem: I am generating WebHelp using RoboHelp for HTML
version 7 and viewing in Firefox 2.0.0.11. The TOC books don't open
in Firefox (IE is okay) via autosync unless I have previously
opened them manually. If I manually open half the books, then only
those books will autosync - it's as if Firefox has to be shown each
book before it will automatically open it when browsing or
searching for topics, etc. When I re-open the WebHelp I have to
manually open all the books again before Firefox will autosync.
This also happens in the simplest of WebHelp projects with just two
    books.
Attempts to fix problem: I have made all the changes to files
suggested on the forums and Peter Grainge's (excellent) site. My
default topic is not within a book and is at the top of the TOC.
None of my books are linked to topics. Adobe's official line is "no
issues with Firefox", so they don't know of this problem. I did not
have this problem when using RoboHelp 6.
I need to know if I am alone in experiencing this problem -
if so there is obviously something wrong with my setup, so I will
concentrate on the way that I am using RoboHelp and its
    configuration, etc.
If anyone reading this has, or has not, experienced this
problem, please let me know - many thanks.

  • Is there an advanced action that will open and close the TOC?

I like that in CP5, Adobe has allowed users to change the icon associated with opening and closing a layered Table of Contents.  With that said, unfortunately, they show up so small, I can't see what I created.  So, I was wondering, is there an advanced action or action script that I could assign to a button that will allow my users to open/close the TOC?
    Thoughts?
    Eric

The code that zcarr posted works fine for me. I have been using it for a long time: http://www.cpguru.com/2010/01/14/tutorial-open-close-the-adobe-captivate-toc-from-your-own -button/
However - it depends on where you use the code. If you use it in an SWF embedded/inserted into your Captivate project then it will work. If you use the code from a Flash shell that loads a Captivate SWF then it wouldn't work since the paths to the functions would be all wrong. The same goes if you use it in a play bar since again the paths would be wrong. The code is still valid though so all that would need to be changed would be the paths to the functions.
Also the posted code and my link is AS2 code so it wouldn't work in Captivate 5. I'm sure that the above code could be convereted to AS3 but it would require a little "hack" in order to get to the right level of the Captivate SWF so the paths would work. It would probably be easier to build a small widget that would accomplish this if it's for AS3 projects.

  • Close all windows when right click !

    Hi all,
I'm using Mac OS 10.4.10 on the Mac Book Pro. When I right click on any windows, it automatic close all opened windows, and return to the desktop.
How can I fix this problem ?
    Thanks

It's probably a bad file in the "Contextual Menu Items" folder in your "Library" folder or the "Library" folder at the top level of the hard drive. Stuffit can do it. They have an update.
