Close/hide "Now Playing" Window?
iTunes 10.7, Mac OS 10.6.8
Every time I switch to iTunes from another program, the iTunes window/playlist is partially covered by a large "Now Playing" window. No matter how often I close this window, it pops back up to the front when I come back to iTunes from another program. Is there any way to close it and keep it closed?
Whatever the problem was, it seems to have been solved with today's upgrade to iTunes 11.0.

ITunes 11.1.2 Now Playing Window Hides, Not Visible
In iTunes 11.1.2 (the latest upgraded version to date) when I have iTunes open on my Mac (2012 Mac Mini) the 'now playing' window in grey at the top shows nothing while a song is playing. When I move my cursor to the 'dock area' below on my desktop the now playing info suddenly appears at the top, showing the song playing, shuffle icon, etc. As soon as my mouse leaves the dock area this now playing area becomes grey again (with the song still playing.) I've restarted my computer and iTunes a few times, etc. What's the problem?!
In addition to what you said: if you press Command L, the playing song will be selected.
I only get this problem when I'm playing the song from an apple script. -
Is there any way to create a mini Now Playing window that can "float?"
Hi,
I've been reading the Help in iTunes, as well as searching the Net, but I'm not finding the functionality I want. Basically, I want to have a mini Now Playing window that I can reposition so it's not covered up by other windows while I'm working. Is there a plugin that will do this, or is it a standard feature of iTunes, that I've overlooked?
Thanks,
JasonI'm not sure what you're asking about. What "announcement" are you seeing? Is it possible you've installed a plugin of some sort? iTunes, on its own, doesn't announce what song is playing, except in its usual little gray window.
You can get rid of the iTunes window entirely by clicking the red "close window" button in the upper left (or typing command-option-1). If you are still looking for an answer to your original question — creating a mini-player that floats on top of all other windows — click the green "minimize" button and select "Keep MiniPlayer on top of all other windows" in Preferences > Advanced.
I don't know which Chris you're talking about. -
Not a big deal, but I'm experiencing a couple of oddities with iTunes which I hope can be answered here.
First, when playing songs from Genius Mixes, the Now Playing window shows artwork from one song behind. For the life of me, I don't know how to advance it. Experimenting led to another interesting problem. If I click the album artwork, it will open the picture to my desktop, and it's the right one. Bad thing is, I can't seem to close it.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Pictures in the "now playing" window
how do you add album cover art to the "now playing" window. if i drag an image from amazon or somewhere else the image is tiny. any help?
Several applications and scripts are available to get larger size pictures.
To name a few:
iTunescool, Find Album Artwork with Google, Corripio, Clutter
You can find more on versiontracker.com.
I've been using Corripio recently. Although it's still in beta (recent version is 0.4.5) it does a decent job in finding large pictures of popular artists.
Tick the 'Prompt me to approve artwork' checkbox in Preferences>General.
Otherwise you may get unwanted pictures in your tunes.
Hope this helps.

Art displayed in library but not 'Now Playing' window
This is odd.
It's not the case with all the albums that I've got but in the view in iTunes where you can scroll through album artwork the images appear, but for some of them they don't appear in the 'Now playing' window.
I can't even find where the images that I can see are stored. When I do a Get-Info on the album/song there is no artwork in the info pane, but it's there in iTunes, just not in all places.
I've sourced most of artwork through Widget Foundry's Amazon Album Art widget, although a signifant number of the images where dragged and dropped from Google Images.
Any clues?
Thanks.

Music > iTunes > Album Artwork ?
I think new artwork goes here if downloaded by iTunes because if CoverFlow had to scan through all your tracks to find the embedded artwork it would slow it down too much.

Now Playing window moves on second track played
I like to show the Now Playing window, move it to the left of my cinema display, and work on other applications mostly on the right. However, since upgrading to iTunes 9, when the next track starts playing, the window jumps to the center of my display. iTunes 8 left the upper left corner where it was, which worked perfectly for me.
Is there anything I can do about this? Also experiencing this issue. Appears to be almost at random. It doesn't seem to be connected with the presence or absence of album art or music videos. Sometimes closing the window stops the song, sometimes it doesn't.

Close, Hide, Move borderless window without passing Window instance MVVM Light
Hi everyone,
I'm now working with an app which is on MVVM Model, and I'm using MVVM Light to make that app . I wonder if I can close the current window and open another one without passing Window instance or not . I've seen a way which helps me to close the current window
without passing the instance through MVVM Command :
return new RelayCommand(() => Application.Current.Windows.Cast<Window>().Single(w => w.DataContext == this).Close());
But what if I handle the MouseDown event, I have to use LinQ so many times.
Can anyone help me please ?If you want to do something with a window without having a reference to it, you could send a message from a class using the Messenger and then subscribe to this message in the window class itself and close it or do whatever from there.
public class CloseWindowMessage
ViewModel:
return new RelayCommand(() => { GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Messaging.Messenger.Default.Send<CloseWindowMessage>(new CloseWindowMessage()); } );
Window:
GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Messaging.Messenger.Default.Register<CloseWindowMessage>
this,
(action) => this.Close()
Please refer to the following links for more information about how to use the Messenger in MVVM Light:

Now Playing window problem...
Very odd problem going on with iTunes 10.
When I select any song from this one, sepcific album in my library, iTunes will hesitate for a second, and the Quicktime-esque player window will automatically appear too..
This happens only with this one album, and it's very frustrating.
Any advice on how to fix this, or even permanently disable the feature altogether would be greatly appreciated.
And also, if I go to close this player window, the song stops...

Where is the 'now playing' window? I can't cope without it!
Where? Why? ***?
I have left some very angry feedback! I hope it makes a difference. I just cannot use itunes in the same way that I have been for YEARS.
I'm really angry. I've invested a lot of time (and money) in itunes and hate what they've done to it.
Some of the changes are great but why remove features that everybody seems (looking at other threads) to be missing.
Doesn't make sense to me.
It must have been designed by the same team that decided to remove Google Maps from iOS 6 !!!!! Apple really know how to respect their (paying) customers!! -
As some may know, you can put more than one album art (picture) in a song. When it's done, the "Now Playing" window, which usually showcases the artwork of the song playing, would have a small right/left arrow beside it. When pressed, you switch to a new artwork.
However with the recent updates on iTunes, that arrow button's disappeared. Now it's as pointless as ever to put multiple pictures. My purpose with this feature is to put album covers and the single artwork together, only if they are the first tracks of whichever album. (Yes, I like to stare at the album covers while listening to music).
IDEA - Why not have the "Now playing" window fade between pictures like a slideshow? So for example, Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" album's 1st track "Mr. Know It All", a single that bears its own artwork. Putting the album and single cover in the song while playing, they'd alternate between pictures every 5 seconds.
I just think that if you can put more than one picture in a song, might as well make use of it. There are a lot of albums that have singles as track no.1. Some have a great single artwork but can't be shown because it needs the album cover. This would make a great compromise. It might even be more neat to put a real life picture of you or someone or a place you know because the song reminds you of .
What do you guys think?
(Say is this normally the way to suggest them ideas or do I just e-mail them a customer support form?)Since this is a user-to-user forum, for better results with Apple, give them feedback at:
http://www.apple.com/feedback
That will get the informatin to Apple. -

I agree - and was glad to see this post and intend to search for more. I vaguely recall some kind of multimedia artwork to replace and extend the idea of the printed album cover being talked about. Was that a standalone package one bought?
Animating covers and album info - some albums I have eg one I just put in itunes - has 87 pages of info - and one track is 70 minutes long. I would like to read that info as it plays (without starting up several other programmes and searching for the docs!)
It is a multimedia environment so why not have an interactive 'now playing' window that plays related videos - pdfs - as well as stills or EVEN! that can actively search (say google images? or tagged info from wherever) for related pictorial content or other info. I have tried dragging pdfs into the artwork box but it wants the pdfs pages made into jpgs first and separated - altho they can ALL be added at once.
Maybe theres already a script to do this stuff?
Sorry to over extend that idea! But really its quite stupid at present not even to be able to see the other stuff one has put in the artwork box - and it even took a while to guess it could be used (as simple as drag and drop..)
I had no idea the 'now playing' window had buttons - where have they gone!
