Close / Minimize Problem

I've noticed a problem that occurs many times but I'm not able to duplicate it easily.
When I go to close a window using the red icon in the top left corner my window will minimize to the dock instead of closing. I have to go to the dock and maximize the window and hit the red close button again to get the window to close.
This has been annoying so I've been paying very close attention to my clicks to make sure I wasn't foolishly hitting the yellow minimize button by accident. I am clicking directly on the red icon when it minimizes instead of closes the window.
This happens very frequently on my Macbook Pro 17" at home and my Macbook Pro 15" at work. It happens whether I use the trackpad, a wired mouse or a bluetooth mouse on either computer.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Close, Minimize, Maximize buttons won't work

So lately the close, minimize and maximize buttons in Safari, Chrome and Firefox won't work. Also, I can't move/drag the window easily, I have to click like 10 times and try over and over again so I can drag it. If I have two windows open (not tabs) I cant close unless i go cmd+W. Do you know what must be wrong? Those buttons work fine in some apps, but finder has that problem too.. I try to force close them and they won't eve appear on task manager, which is weird, they used to. Oh and my launchpad button (in the dock and in the keyboard) also doesn't work.

I found out that it wasn't just Safari, I had the same problem with FireFox. On the forum I found the (I think) solution:

Greyed out "close", "minimize", and "zoom" controls with Yosemite

After updating to Yosemite, the "close", "minimize" and "zoom" controls for windows are not in color. They are shown in black and white, only. I am using a 13-inch mid 2010 Macbook Pro with 4 GB memory. Any ideas on what I need to do to get the colors back? I expect that there might be other areas in OS X where I have the same problem. I will appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

Thanks for the question. There are two different things that could be happening here. First off, when a window is out of focus (another window or application is in use) the buttons will appear greyed out/inactive. Switching back to the window will return the color.
Second, if your “Appearance” setting in System Preferences > General is set to “Graphite” instead of “Blue” - this will occur.

Can't Close/Minimize Windows

Frequently (but not always) I can't close or minimize windows. If I drag the window slightly (in any direction), suddenly the close/minimize buttons become responsive. The problem happens in all Apps. Any thoughts on what this could be? (Running Mavericks 10.9.3 on a MacBook Air 13'')

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

My firefox browser no longer closes, minimizes, or restore up or down the window, all of them are grayed out

Whenever I have Firefox browser window open, and then select to open a private browsing window, the open Firefox browser red X close button grays out and does not close, minimize, or restore up or down. This happens to both the regular Firefox browser window and the private browsing window.
Sometimes, this occurs when only the regular Firefox browser is open and not any private browsing windows.

Close, Minimize, and Zoom Buttons

Where are the resources (Graphics) for the Close, Minimize, and Zoom buttons located?

They appear to be in the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreUI.framework/Versions/A/Resources/AquaUI. bundle/Contents/Resources/ folder, which can be navigated to with the Finder's Go to Folder command in the Go menu. They may also be in the LeopardUI.bundle folder, with the rest of the path identical.

Close, minimize, resize buttons in top left dissapeared

Any help MUCH appreciated!!... I cannot seem to figure out how i've lost my close, minimize and resize buttons in top left. IT's only in Illustrator. I have a MacBook Pro..
Any thoughts???

Chances are the buttons are merely behind the Control Panel or your'e simply in Full Screen Mode.
If your document is behind the Control panel, tap the Tab key to hide all panel, then move the document down so it's not behind the control panel.
If you are in Full Screen Mode, tap the F key on the keyboard until you see the buttons again.

Hello,
So Outlook has failed to launch and an error dialog (error reporting) pops up. A lot of things can cause this issues.
One of the main causes is a corrupt Navigation Pane settings file. You might need to start Outlook using the /resetnavpane
switch. Just run command (Windows key + R), type or paste:
outlook.exe /resetnavpane (Please note that you will lose any customizations on the navigation pane)
In certain cases, a corrupted data file will also cause this problem. So, if the /resetnavpane switch doesn't really work, please try to repair your data file with
scanpst.exe tool:

Is there any way to increase the size of the window buttons (close, minimize, maximize)?

I want to increase the size of the window buttons (close, minimize & maximize) because you have to navigate so precisely using the trackpad to use them...it'd be easier if the buttons were a little bigger. Thanks.

After latest update 20.0.1 when opening a new tab, close, minimize, maximize are not working. Also using arrow in online dropdown menu's are non-selectable.

After automatically updating to version 20.0.1 yesterday the buttons in the upper right corner minimize, maximize, close stop working when I open a new tab. When only one tab is open they do work. Also when downloading a file ( and again this opens a new pop-up window ) after clicking save file there is no response. The save file button looks as if it is pushed but there is no download going on.
I tried safe mode, didn't help.
I tried switching off all add-ons, didn't help.
I tried reset, didn't help.
I even tried uninstalling and re-installing firefox, didn't help.
The only thing that works for a couple of seconds is when I go to options in the firefox menu, close the pop-up the buttons in the upper corner are active for a couple of seconds.

You just have to update the Add-on Firebug from 1.10.6 to the latest version 1.11.2. If it's not that Add-on try with another Add-on.

Can't use youtube controls / windows controls (Close, Minimize,etc)

I cant use youtube controls, example play, volume, seek, etc (also with some other flash objects, not all)
I Can't use the windows buttons on the top right hand side, example close, maximize, minimize,etc
sometime I can't use non flash sections in some sites (facebook)
I have already tried:
run without add-ons - No help
reinitialize Firefox - Helped until i restarted firefox (still without add-ons)
No other programs on my computer has similar problems

To troubleshoot issues that don't occur in [[Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] see the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article. Start with turning off hardware acceleration in the Firefox [[Options window - Advanced panel|Options window - Advanced panel]] (General tab) and then restart Firefox.
You also have two versions of Flash installed:
*Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
*Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700
To remove the older plugin, find the path to the NPSWF32_11_7_700_xxx.dll file in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:plugins about:plugins] and delete the file (or rename it by adding an X in front of the filename. CS4 Tools on top hides close/minimize/maximize

Does the regular version of ID have this problem, too? If you put the
tools panel at the top then close ID and reopen. Does it hide the
maximize/minimize/close buttons?

The only thing I am really covering is the dropdown that allows you to
switch workspaces. It is the way I worked in CS3 and it saves me a lot
of real estate on the left hand side. It also allows me to dock some
panels on the left and have them collapsed without collapsing the tools.
If I move it the buttons come back here, too, but it's an unpleasant
surprise to want to minimize ID and have to first move the tools menu.

FF 4, click anywhere on it: search, close, minimize-just get"ding"

I've been using FF since version 1 and this is the first problem.
Just upgraded to v4 and is not useable. Anywhere I click on it;
search box, tab, close box, minimize box, anywhere at all I just get a musical "ding".
I have Win. 7 Pro, AVG Anti-virus, ZoneAlarm firewall, Adaware, Spybot S+D, spyware blaster, HP Printer software, Nvidia-based Gigabyte Gforce 8600GT video card.
Tried closing Adaware, Spybot etc., not HP software.
Have never had a problem this severe. I even tried uninstalling and going back to 3.6...still a problem.
Am going to try deeper uninstall and then installing 3.6... again until I see improvement. This is why I didn't install the

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. those can only go to 4.2.1.

Open and Close Dataset problem

I am facing a weird problem in transferring data to application server.
I have used Open dataset to write my file in text format to the application server.
Now everything works fine when small amount of data is there.When the number of records increases and when it takes lot of time , the format of the text file is completely distorted.
I have used tab as the delimiter. Please suggest me some solution for this.
Is this due to the time taken?
