Close sql server management studio while running sql server replication

Hi friends.
I have successfully configured transactional replication (pull type)between 2 sql servers using initialize transactional replication from database backup method. Below my servers;
sql1 = publisher
sql2 = distributor & subscriber (pull type)
My question is
a) Can I close sql server management studio after my replication setup completed & run smoothly.
Thanks in advance
Imra

  • Close SQL Management Studio while running HA Wizard

I finished the wizard for new availability group. The setup was progressing and I accidently closed the window for SQL Management Studio which definitely closed the window for setup wizard. I assume the databases stopped syncing. Is there way I can start
them again or I have to delete the group and re-create them.
    Muhammad Mehdi

In this situation, you probably have database(s) in restoring mode, or even not restored on Secondary Instance(s).
    The clean solution is:
    1. Delete Availability Group on Primary Instance, it will delete it on Secondary Instances.
    2. Delete Database(s) on Secondary Instances.
    3. Configure HAG again.

  • Auto Scheduled run of the Sql server management studio or a auto refreshing query

    Hi ALL ,
This is a very different weird requirement but workaround  for one of my requirement  . Scenario is that sql server enterprise edition is installed on a vm . I create a session with the vm using the remote desktop . I have scheduled a ssis package
on the server and it should run 4 am daily us timing but its failing . If in case a user is connected to the management studio package runs on time . So i have to disconnect from the remote desktop and its not possible for me to login at 4 am every day for
    running package.
Requirement :  Is it possible that the sql sever management studio automatically turns on at 03:30 am and authenticates in .If that is possible my package won't fail . If this is not possible  is it possible that sql script auto refreshes every
30 min's so what i can do i will run the auto refreshing script in the management studio once and will disconnect the remote desktop not the sql server session so my virtually my session on vm will end but vm is always on from the vcenter and there is some
activity on the sql server management studio so even the application won't be closed after a stipulated time frame leading to running of my package on time.

    Hello,
Please try deleting the following sub folder to see if this will work:
      C:\users\(my profile)\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation
If you can't see AppData folder, you could use following steps to show hidden files:
     1. Open an explorer window, hit "ALT-T" choose Folder Options then go to the view tab.
     2. Turn on Show hidden files, folders or drives and
disable Hide protected Operating System files (recommended).

  • SQL 2008 R2: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio cannot shut down because a modal dialog is active. Close the active dialog and try again

When starting SQL Server 2008 R2 it hangs , and I cannot exit...so when  trying to logoff to reset I get the following "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio cannot shut down because a modal dialog is active. Close the active dialog and try again"Any
    ideas?

    Big edit...
I have 2008 R2 SP2 installed on my Windows 7 Machine which is also fully updated.  The marked answer above is clearly not the solution.
The fix I had posted before did not work.  It appeared to work temporarily, but now I am back to the same invisible dialogue.  I have not been able to identify any pattern by which this is triggered.  I can have an entire day without this
issue and then it appears the next.
The invisible modal dialogue is definitely the connection dialogue.  The only way out is to hit the escape key to close it, but then I am no better off without an ability to connect to a server.  The dialogue is still invisible when I re-open it.
However, even as I type this post, I have just gotten the dialogue to appear after restarting Management Studio, hitting escape, then clicking connect again.  That same pattern failed just minutes ago numerous times.  Again, I can't find any pattern.
See you in the clock tower.

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio:In the Database, how to print out or export the old 3 dbo Tables that were created manually and they have a relationship for 1 Parent table and 2 Child tables? How to handle this relationship in creating a new XML Schema?

    Hi all,
Long time ago, I manually created a Database (APGriMMRP) and 3 Tables (dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates, dbo.Table_2_Soil, and dbo.Table_3_Water) in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio (SSMS2012). The dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates has the following columns: file_id,
Pt_ID, X, Y, Z, sample_id, Boring. The dbo.Table_2_Soil has the following columns: Boring, sample_date, sample_id, Unit, Arsenic, Chromium, Lead. The dbo.Table_3_Water has the following columns: Boring, sample_date, sample_id, Unit, Benzene, Ethylbenzene,
Pyrene. The dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates is a Parent Table. The dbo.Table_2_Soil and the dbo.Table_3_Water are 2 Child Tables. The sample_id is key link for the relationship between the Parent Table and the Child Tables.
Problem #1) How can I print out or export these 3 dbo Tables?
Problem #2) If I right-click on the dbo Table, I see "Start PowerShell" and click on it. I get the following error messages: Warning: Failed to load the 'SQLAS' extension: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service.
--> Failed to retrieve data for this request. --> Invalid class.  Warning: Could not obtain SQL Server Service information. An attemp to connect to WMI on 'NAB-WK-02657306' failed with the following error: An exception occurred in SMO while trying
to manage a service. --> Failed to retrieve data for this request. --> Invalid class.  .... PS SQLSERVER:\SQL\NAB-WK-02657306\SQLEXPRESS\Databases\APGriMMRP\Table_1_XYcoordinates>   What causes this set of error messages? How can
I get this problem fixed in my PC that is an end user of the Windows 7 LAN System? Note: I don't have the regular version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 in my PC. I just have the Microsoft 2012 Shell (Integrated) program in my PC.
Problem #3: I plan to create an XML Schema Collection in the "APGriMMRP" database for the Parent Table and the Child Tables. How can I handle the relationship between the Parent Table and the Child Table in the XML Schema Collection?
Problem #4: I plan to extract some results/data from the Parent Table and the Child Table by using XQuery. What kind of JOIN (Left or Right JOIN) should I use in the XQuerying?
Please kindly help, answer my questions, and advise me how to resolve these 4 problems.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott Chang

In the future, I would recommend you to post your questions one by one, and to the appropriate forum. Of your questions it is really only #3 that fits into this forum. (And that is the one I will not answer, because I have worked very little with XSD.)
    1) Not sure what you mean with "print" or "export", but when you right-click a database, you can select Tasks from the context menu and in this submenu you find "Export data".
    2) I don't know why you get that error, but any particular reason you want to run PowerShell?
    4) If you have tables, you query them with SQL, not XQuery. XQuery is when you query XML documents, but left and right joins are SQL things. There are no joins in XQuery.
As for left/right join, notice that these two are equivalent:
    SELECT ...
    FROM   a LEFT JOIN b ON a.col = b.col
    SELECT ...
    FROM   b RIGHT JOIN a ON a.col = b.col
But please never use RIGHT JOIN - it gives me a headache!
There is nothing that says that you should use any of the other. In fact, if you are returning rows from parent and child, I would expect an inner join, unless you want to cater for parents without children.
Here is an example where you can study the different join types and how they behave:
CREATE TABLE apple (a int         NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
                        b varchar(23) NOT NULL)
    INSERT apple(a, b)
       VALUES(1, 'Granny Smith'),
             (2, 'Gloster'),
             (4, 'Ingrid-Marie'),
             (5, 'Milenga')
CREATE TABLE orange(c int        NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
                        d varchar(23) NOT NULL)
    INSERT orange(c, d)
       VALUES(1, 'Agent'),
             (3, 'Netherlands'),
             (4, 'Revolution')
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
    CROSS  JOIN orange
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
    INNER  JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
LEFT   OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
RIGHT  OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
FULL OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    go
    DROP TABLE apple, orange

  • Setup closed with exit code: 0x84C40013 - Silent Install error - SQL Server 2012 express management studio SP1

I am trying to create a silent installation package for SQL Server 2012 Express Management Studio SP1. (both x86 & x64)
Prior to installation I have performed the following :
    1. Turned ON the Windows feature 'Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1' (I had read somewhere on the internet that this is required prior to installation)
    2. Installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
I am using the following command line to perform an unattended install :
    <EXENAME> /Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
    However, the installation fails abruptly.
The application installs successfully with the following command line :
    <EXENAME> /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
The error occurs only while attempting to install the application with the /Q switch appended.
    Please help.

    Hello Fanny,
Thanks for providing the link to the SQL Server 2012 unattended install guide.
However, I must highlight that I was running the setup.exe with "Run As a Administrator" option and still facing the issue.
Anyways, I found out the root cause and I must say that it was a rather silly one.
As I had stated previously, the following command line was causing the issue :
    <EXENAME>
    /Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
I simply changed it to the following and it worked....
    <EXENAME>
    /QUIET /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=INSTALL /FEATURES=TOOLS
It so seems that everything must be in CAPITALS for this to work.

  • SQL Server Management Studio File Open dialog is very slow to change directories

I am running Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio    10.0.2531.0 on Windows 7 Professional.
I have an intermittent problem with the File Open dialog. Sometimes it works reasonably well, but often it takes a very long time (a few minutes) to change directory. While it is doing whatever it is doing, the dialog and all of SSMS becomes unresponsive
    - I can't even cancel the dialog. It sometimes changes the cursor to an hourglass and sometimes not.
I do not have this problem with any other application.
I can open File Open one time and have this delay for every single directory change or if I open the Look In dropdown then, after closing it I can open it again and it will work with normal delays.
It is slow more often than it is normal.
It makes accessing files very impractical.

    Hi,
10.0.2531.0 is SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (release April 2009)
No guarantee this will fix your issue, but may be worth testing the latest Service Pack 3 (released October 2011) to see if that helps

Sorry, missed the message from the errorlog in the original post. You shouldn't have included that big .Net dump that hid the important facts. :-)
My first Google attempt on that message (which I have never seen before) suggests that the TCP Enpoint is stopped, so try this:
    ALTER ENDPOINT [TSQL Default TCP]
    STATE=STARTED;

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Displays Error With "New Query" and Intellisense Works Intermittenly

I was upgrade to SQL Server 2012 and Visual Studio 2010 was upgraded with SP1 the same day.  This is x64 machine.
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio      11.0.2100.60
    Microsoft .NET Framework      4.0.30319.261
    Operating System      6.1.7601
Problem 1) With SQL Server Management Studio, selecting "New Query" a warning box is displayed: "The 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Configuration.Design.VisualStudioIntegration2010Package, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Configuration.Design.VisualStudioIntegration2010,
Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=netutral, PublicKeyToken=null' package did not load correctly.    The problem mayhave been cuased by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension.  You can get more information by running the
application together with the /log parameter on the command line, and then examining the file ...\AppDate\Roaming\Microsoft\AppEnv\10.0\ActivityLog.xml'.  Continue to show this error message?
Problem 2) In a Query Initellisense works intermittently but most of the time it will not display anything.  I have tried Edit|Intellisense|Refresh Cach size and also seperately, Edit | Intellisense | List Members but neither has helped.  Also
tried different selections for Tools|options| T-SQL | Intellisense| Maximum Script Size; no luck either.

    Hi WallyJim,
For your first problem, possible workaround:
In Programs and Features (or Add/Remove Programs), right click the Microsoft Enterprise Library 5.0 Optional Update 1 program and select change. Remove the VisualStudio2010 integration.
Then, install the EnterpriseLibrary Configuration extension from Microsoft via the Extension Manager in VS2010. This will allow you to launch the configuration editor from VS2010, but will not be installed for SSMS.
For more information, please refer to
    https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/620532/error-message-on-new-query-window-opening.
For your second problem, the following conditions might affect the behavior of IntelliSense:
There is a code error above the cursor.
The insertion point is inside a code comment.
The insertion point is inside a string literal.
The automatic options are turned off.
For more information, refer to Troubleshooting IntelliSense (SQL Server Management Studio):

    Maggie

  • How do I load an SSIS package created in Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) onto SQL Server 2012 using SQL Management Studio 2012

I am fairly new to this whole process of working with the Microsoft development environment.  Here is what I have to work with:
an NT server running Microsoft SQL 2012  - Microsoft SQL Server Standard (64-bit)  11.0.2100.60
and on my laptop (all freebie downloads):
SQL Server Management Studio 2012            ver 11.0.2100.60
Visual Studio 2012 Express  for Desktop Development and
    Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
I was able to create an SSIS package in
2012 Shell (Integrated).  It takes a flat file and imports it into an SQL database table.  It runs successfully from within the
    2012 Shell (Integrated) envrionment.
But I am having trouble figuring out how to set this up on the 2012 SQL Server.  I see that one of my colleagues created an Integration Services Catalog,
and using SQL Management Studio I was able to create a folder under that called DigLic.  But when I go to the Projects subfolder of DigLic and attempt to import my SSIS package, I get an error message:
"To launch the Integration Services Deployment wizard, one of the components: Integration Services, Management Tools - Basic or Business Intelligence Development Studio has to be installed by the SQL Server
2012 Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation Edition.  To install a component, run SQL Server Setup and Select the component name"
I realize that Express Versions of Visual Studio lack the full feature set of a professional version.  But am I wrong in assuming that owning a server version of SQL Server 2012 gives us license to a professional
version of SQL Management Studio 2012?  If so, how would I go about getting this software component installed?  And I am not clear if this is something that needs to be installed on our SQL Server or if I simply need a professional version of SSMS
    loaded on my laptop.
I work for a company that is fairly fractured in its repsonsibilities, so I would need to know exactly what to ask for if I need to track down any licenses that I might need and if I need to have any specific software installed on our SQL server or on my
    laptop.
All helpt would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Arthur,
Thank you for your reply.  But at this point, one of my points of confusion is what software I have available to me.  I wish I had a useful central help desk to call up and just say, "Hey, load me up with all of the professional version(s) of Visual
Studio.  But I do not know what we have license to.  And I kind of need to know what the options are, so that I can ask a specific question of our vast buracracy.
For now, I have downloaded only free versions of Visual Studio client software.  Since my company does have servers running Microsoft SQL Server, I am going to assume that we have proper licensing for those servers.  But does that server license
allow me to get any professional versions of the PC client software for the various Visual Studio(s) 2012?
And if I get a professional version of Visual Studio 2012, does that do away with the three different flavors that I have right now?  I have 2012 versions of SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio Express, and Visual Studio Shell (Integrated).
    Your feedback is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Installing Sql Server 2014 Management studio problem

    Hi,
    I installed a full SQL 2014 evaluation ISO on a 64 bit Windows server 2008 R2 machine:
    (file name - SQLServer2014SP1-FullSlipstream-x64-ENU.ISO)
On this machine I already have a instance of SQL Server 2008 Express running (with Management Studio).
I try to download on the Management studio either from:

    or
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver2014express.aspx
and the download just won't start. Am I missing anything ?
Is the management studio already on the ISO I installed?
