Close to Finishing 1st Project and Not Wanting to Go Too Far
This has been a learning curve for me over the previous version 6, however, it does look interesting. I have learned a lot about making sure the counter is on when recording. Will I be able to put this on a DVD? I see You Tube, web tv, etc. but no DVD (or is that the same as share to computer)? Finally, Making sure I am correct: you create and edit, add transitions, music, voice over, etc. from the project window and when complete...share it? Thanks so much.

In iMovie 08, Choose share and media browser, once this is complete open iDVD and you will see your movie in the media browser, you can then use it with iDVD to make your DVD. It is true that you can make a DVD using iMovie 08 but I find it to be harder. iMovie 08 has replaced "Share to iDVD" with "Share to media browser". Also iMovie 08 cannot set chapter markers, this has to be done with another program.
I use both iMovie 08 and iMovie 06, if I want to make a DVD I much prefer iMovie 06. iMovie 08 is not as DVD friendly as iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 has replaced "Share to iDVD" with "Share to media browser". Also iMovie 08 cannot set chapter markers, this has to be done with another program.
When using iMovie 06, one mouse click will set a chapter marker EXACTLY where you specify. In just a few seconds set all your chapter markers. When you are done editing just "share to iDVD 08" and all of your chapter markers will be there!
iMovie 06 is a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

I finished my project and have it on DVD and Bluray. Now I want to free up disk space by deleting everything that had to do with the project including event clips. Does 'moving to trash' accomplish that?

Yes, selecting "move to trash" from within FCPX will free up disk space.
I "Move Project To Trash" first.
Then "Move Event To Trash" secondly.
To totally free up disk space, you will of course need to empty out your trash as you would per any other unwanted file you've sent to the trash can.

You cannot. When you upgrade, you will get the latest version of iOS 7.

Does it have a line in and how do you monitor sound?
Will I need adaptors and an interface?
Also, I am guessing as Logic only runs on MAC surely then they would not the best spec to recommend to run it?
I see all the upgrades as additional memory or a faster process?
Is a retina screen necessary, and why flash based storage against a 1TB hard drive, and a i5 instead of an i7
The main reason for this purchase is to play live and use backing tracks and record found sounds and make creative songs.
I hope you can provide some valuable feedback, as I am a longtime MAC user and see upgrades and changes happen regularly but the most important thing is the songs not the equipment.

Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.
Bought my girlfriend the newest Macbook Pro 13" and began experiencing problems with my wifi the moment we got home. Her Macbook would not connect to our home Wi-Fi while my old Macbook Late 2008 running Snow Leopard connected without a problem. Airport would say that it had a Self-Assigned IP address (168.x.x.x). Did not realize it was a Lion problem until after using her Macbook Pro and becoming jealous of the new OSX, I upgraded. Soon after I was unable to go online. Luckily I had my iPad 2 and I began to scoure the net for help. Ran into allot of suggestions but it was not until I tried the following all together was I able to share the good new, from my Macbook. Hope this works:
First go to Preferences > Network and click on the cog next to the + and - on the sidebar and click Set Service Order
- Move Wi-Fi to the top and click ok.
- Set location to Automatic
- Click Apply
- Click Advanced
- Click the "-" on the selected Wi-Fi router you wish to connect to
- Click Apply
- Click Lock to Prevent Further Changes
Go to your Mac's harddrive, (Macintosh)
- Go to Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration >
- Delete "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" file
Turn off your computer
- push and hold Option+Command+R+P
- turn on computer
- when the grey screen turns on you will hear the OS X "ON" sound (for lack of a proper term) and it will momentarily restart.
- you will once again hear the "ON" sound, let go of all keys.
- this resets your PRAM
Go to Preferences > Network > Advanced > + sign
- click Choose a Network
- Select your network and enter password
Viola!!! I tried this on my Macbook Late 2008 and my girlfriends new Macbook Pro 2010No you are clearly mistaken. The Self-Assigned IP address problem exists on many Macbook Pro models, including the current model, which I mentioned as being the original computer with the problem. While my 2008 Macbook is older it was working perfectly on Snow Leopard and didn't suffer issues until switching to Lion. So clearly the problem exists on the operating system and not so much the hardware.
I called Apple Support and they had no fix for the problem and told me that this would hopefully be addressed in a subsequent update. It wasn't until I came accross the answer after trying many different methods that I got both of the Macbooks to connect to my router. Otherwise I wouldn't or could not have been surfing the internet for the last 4 months.

I accidentally deleted documents from Pages on my iphone - and now they won't show up on my mac anymore either. I must have saved them just on icloud and not on my mac, too. is there anyway to recover these documents?
On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved. It's saved at:
~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac. -
You are running an operating system that Photoshop no longer supports. Mine is mac OS X version 10.6.8. I have adobe suite CS4, and I can't get too far with that! I was trying to upgrade. Any advice?

I have finished my FCP X project and in the past I would burn a copy but since I am out of town I need to send it via email. The peron is able to view the project when it comes by email but I am wondering how can they burn a dvd copy of it to display at the Church for our announcements. The person I am sending it to has a Mac too. Thanks
First off, you're not likely to be able to email it. Most email systems limit the size of messages (and their attachments) since email isn't really designed for large transfers. It's not uncommon to see 50MB as a cap. Unless you're working on an especially small project you're likely to exceed this limit.
Instead you should consider creating a disk image of your DVD and using a public file service such as DropBox or YouSendIt.
If you create a disk image (.dmg) file that simulates a full burned DVD, the reciever can burn that to disk using Disk Utility on their machine. They don't need FCP X on their side. -

I'm finished with project and burned to DVD.... Can I delete?
What is everyone's opinion on what to do with the their projects once they are completely finished burning all of their projects to DVD? I really like keeping my HD nice and neat and don't want a bunch of video taking up space. I have burned the DVD to watch and made a backup DVD of the important video's. I will keep the backup DVD in a safe place. Do you think I would be ok to delete all of my projects and clips that I have created?
I keep everything. This has let me do some really interesting things. I have videos going back to when my children were small. This January, I made a movie showing scenes from my daughter's 18th, 17th, 16th, 12th, 8th, 6th, 5,4,3,2,1, birthdays and the day she was born. This was simple in iMovie because the footage was all there and you can combine clips from multiple events in a single project.
This also gives you flexibility for the future. If BluRay or something beyond BluRay becomes popular, you can easily share you movies to the new format.
You can get an external 1 Terabyte drive ( or pick a size you like). It needs to be formatted as MAC OS Extended (journaled). (If it comes at FAT32, you can reformat it using DISK UTILITY)
I use Firewire 800, but if you have a recent MacBook, you may not have Firewire so USB will work fine.
Open iMovie and click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. You will see an icon for your disk in the Events list. Hold down the command key while dragging the event to the icon for the disk in the event list.
Projects work similarly. Command-drag the project to the external drive in the project list.

I am new to Captivate and am tasked with learning how to use Captivate 8. I need to add a certificate of completion to the end of my project and have many questions for which I cannot find any answers! Please, if anyone can answer these:
1) I do not want the certificate to be printed until the score of the quiz reaches a specific minimum - for example, you need a score of 80% or better to print a certificate. How do I do this with the print widget?
2) I want the certificate to print out without the slide background and without the project's resolution - in other words, I only want the certificate image (with added text box for name) to print, IN LANDSCAPE, without the user having to make all the adjustments on their end (choosing landscape over portrait with their printer). How is this accomplised?
3) I want a date entered on the certificate - how do I add this specific element?
Without a certificate widget and the use of Flash with this version, I am confused as to how exactly Captivate provides the ability to print certificates? I do not know HTML5, and am spotty with Javascript. Why would a feature such as certificates and the ability to print them be such a clandestine thing? No tutorials, no clear advice on how exactly to achieve this widely popular feature of training material development. Seems to me that it should be MUCH easier to accomplish, but I'm stumped at this point.The solution I found is this:
Don't use the print widget in Captivate 8. It simply does not work the way it should be able to work. Unless you are capable of scripting in Actionscript 2.0 and have access to an older version of Captivate, there is no way to get around this bug.
The problem I discovered is that Captivate 8 will only allow you to use Actionscript 3.0 in Flash; you can open the widget in Flash, but you MUST open it through Captivate first if you intend to use it in Captivate. So, once you open the widget for adjustments through Captivate, it automatically chooses AS 3.0 as the scripting language to use, no other choice is available. IF you have Captivate 7 or lower, however, it allows you to script in AS 2.0. I do not, so I cannot assist you in scripting the widget.
What I ended up doing was, I made my own certifcate in Photoshop, saved it as a .PNG, and added it to the last page. Using the internal coding of Captivate I told the program to only go to that slide upon success of the quiz.
To Print: go to Window > Skin Editor. On the left are check boxes for playbar choices - check off 'Show Playback Control,' and then choose your theme. From the dropdown, choose "print." If you don't want anything else on the playbar, then check those items off; Choose where you want the playbar to show (I chose bottom and bottom center). See below:
You can see the icons on the bottom, in the center. The icon to the left is the Print button. This works well, though you may have to make print choices from your local print dialog. I have to tell it to print landscape, for instance, otherwise it prints portait and too small. But this does work, and it solves the issue of non-working print widgets. -
How to see other events that have clips used in project and not just reference event for a project
In 10.0.9 if you selected a project and then looked at info tab in the inspector you could see the reference event and all events that had used clips in the project. In 10.1 you only see the reference event. So how do you see other events in the library that the project uses clips from?
I see. Yes, that probably should be improved. They removed the function that displayed the used events.
Open the project. Select the library. In the browser in list view, which shows the events in order, select everything. Press right-arrow to open the disclosure triangles. Scroll the list to see what's marked used where. Not great. -

Kumar reddy.You can create a view in the project dashboard and filter out the statuses completed or canceled. User can always create local views, if needed for all users you can create a global view, call it something like "Active Projects" and set it as default.
By the way, which version of PPM are you using?

Can i use my time capsule as wireless storage and not as a router too?
hi there i just bought my self a time capsule its a 500gb one as i do not need the 1tb+ storage.
i play a lot of online games and have a fast router so i do not want the time capsule for its router capabilitys i only want to use it as a wireless storage unit is this possible to do?
if not i can connect a usb storage to my current router and use that as my wireless storage if so where is the best place to sell this time capsule?You simply bridge the TC and plug it into the existing router.. it will then provide network storage..
Can connect either via the existing router or the TC.. if you set up wireless correctly.. if it is a gen1 you can set to 5ghz only.. that will keep it from interferring with the existing router.
