Closed Caption colors disappear

The closed captions look fine in Premiere Pro. When I export the video as Quicktime using "embed in output file" the captions show up but the colors are gone. Mostly - one random line of red retainied its color.
I have several diffferent speakers plus a VO so I want to use the colors to distinguish the various speakers. Any clue why every color change I used in PP disappeared in the QT file and all of them are now white? (All, except that one line out of a 12 minute documenatry.)
Thanks so much.

Yay! I did what you said and can manually turn select the closed captions box in the slide notes and that adds them back in. I still have to adjust the timing, but this is a HUGE time saver.
What am I doing wrong to lose them in the first place? I added them origninally by double clicking on the audio in the slide timeline and then selecting the Closed Captioning tab. I then cut the text out of our script (in another application) and paste it line by line into the CC tab. It seems to work because I see the CC in the published file.
Should I only add Closed Captions through slide notes? I never bothered with slide notes before.
Thanks for all your help- you've saved me a lot of time and frustration already!

  • Closed Captioning Problem - Disappears (Or Doesn't)

This is driving me crazy!!  I have a project in which on some slides the closed captioning disappears at the end of the slide audio, and on some slides the closed captioning stays up at the end of the slide audio.  In both cases I have a click box set to rest of slide and pause project until user clicks, along with a text caption set for rest of slide, and audio narration.  And that's it.
Why does the CC disappear on one slide at the end but not the other?  I want it to be consistent one way or the other.
I copied all the slides to a new project and it behaves the same way.  If I publish it to HTML5, the CC disappears at the end of all the slides.  If I publish it to SWF, I get the strange behavior above.
    I have CP 7.0.1.237 on a Win 7 PC.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I am also encountering this exact same issue.  Also just like rgcunningham and DouglasDH5 I have Captivate 7.0.1.237 installed and am running Windows 7.  I have two coworkers with the same version of Captivate and Windows who have encountered the exact same issue with this project file (I am troubleshooting it for them actually).  I have tried to add silence and adjust the pause timing of the next button as Captiv8r suggested with no luck.  I have also tried several other things suggested in other threads about this same issue including switching the skin to a different default skin or deleting and re-importing the audio for the affected slide.  Neither of those suggestions worked either.  In my searching I have found several threads on this same issue going back through multiple Captivate versions back through at least version 5, and in every thread I have found so far the same workarounds are suggested and no successful result is reported.
Does anyone have any other suggestions that we all haven't tried yet or is this just a bug in the tool that we need to report to Adobe and move along?

  • Closed Captioning not showing up at specified In / Out points

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded to a trial of 7.2.1 (I'm a *long* time CS user) and am having an issue with closed captioning that's got me pulling my hair out. Upon importing a .scc file and inspecting it in the captions tab, I have all the captions I'm expecting at the proper timecodes (for example if I look up the start of a line in the program window the start timecode matches the "In" timecode listed in the Captions tab).
However upon playing the timeline and turning on Closed Caption display - the captions are not displaying (nor disappearing) at the in/out timecodes listed in the caption tab. They're showing up (roughly) seven seconds later at the beginning of the program, and over 11 seconds late by the end of the program.
Does anyone have the foggiest idea how to resolve this? I guess it's possible it's just a player issue and the issue will correct itself on output, but that's not really comforting. I could do what I need on this job by renewing my license for some other software, but Premiere would be a more versitile use of my limited software upgrade budget - but only if it can actually do the job properly.

    Hi Mark and monstremoi,
With all the fiddling I've been doing in raw captioning files the fact that I didn't just try increasing the hight of the track is completely rediculous. Lo and behold, there are the handles! Once I could actually see the captions in the track I noticed something interesting - that the .scc and .xml files are being interpreted quite differently.
If I take the same caption source file and output one xml and one scc and lay them on top of each other, this is what it looks like:
The XML is starting immediately at timecode 0, even though the first start time should be 4:06 (weirdly the scc is actually starting at the right time code in this test, something it's refused to do previously).
If I manually set the offset of the first caption by forwarding the xml caption track to 4:06 we get this:
*This* XML track seems to play out synchronous with the program albeit with some odd formatting (it doesn't appear to be reading any of the font positioning information from the timed text file, it's just playing everything top frame, justified left.
Already though up above you can see though that although the SCC stars at the right timecode, it's starting to drift out of sync less than 30 seconds in - which doesn't make any sense when both have been output from the same 29.97 timebase source.
Monstremoi - to answer you questions, no I've not done any captioning work in premiere pro previously. I actually didn't even know it was a feature until I read about the improvements in CC. Most of our captioning files come from Annotation Edit (zeitanker.com). If they're not prepared in AnnotationEdit / AnnotationTranscriber, we usually do some conversion work through it before outputting (usually to set offsets or whatever if we're adding presentation cards or something).
Happy to send you files to pull apart - although I'd rather not post them as a forum d/l link. Do you have an e-mail I can send them to?

  • DVD Player randomly quits when using closed captioning

I have been experiencing this issue on two different 10.4.11 machines, both intel. A MBPro and a Mini.
The DVD Player normally works fine, disc after disc, unless I turn on closed captions (not subtitles, but similar), then the DVD Player will quit randomly every 1-3 discs. I have done all the permission fixes and usual cache deletions, but nothing seems to work. I have also deleted preferences and plists on both machines.
The crash log is usually cryptic, and all I can discern is that thread "one" crashed.
Can anyone else reproduce this issue, or have other suggestions?

    Hi,
Try a different font... here's how: Customizing the look of closed captioning text
You can change the font and color of closed captioning text. You can also change the color and transparency of the closed captioning box for optimal viewing when the captions are displayed over the video.
Choose DVD Player > Preferences, and then click Windows.
In the Closed Captioned section, click the Text color button and select a color to use for text.
Click the Background color button and select a contrasting background color.
Drag the transparency slider to the right (lighter) or to the left (darker).
Choose a font from the Font pop-up menu.
You can customize the font size as well, but the size setting only applies to closed captioning in a separate window.

  • HBOGO Airplay Closed Captions not working?

    I have an iPad2 and an AppleTV3.
HBOGO Closed Captions works fine on my iPad. As soon as I airplay it to my AppleTV, however, the CC disappear even as I toggle them on and off on the iPad. While holding down on the AppleTV remote's center button usually brings up a subtitle menu on Netflix or movie Airplay's from my computer, doing so on HBOGO Airplaying does nothing.
Has anyone gotten HBOGO CC to work on iPad Airplaying?
    Thanks!

    Loqwood wrote:
To turn off the subtitles you have to go back to the show/movie you were watching NOT THE SETTING MENU. Then you click and hold the center button. A menu will pop up. Turn closed captions to OFF. Once you have done that press "menu" to exit back to the program. Happy watching! (From our 12 year old.)
Finally!  Thanks, Loqwood.  This worked like a charm.

  • Does closed captioning features work in the trial version?

I'm trying to update the font and color in Captivate 5 using the trial version and my mouse arrow shows horizontal and then it locks up my computer.  Please help; any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

    Hi there
Sorry, but we need more information. Perhaps take another stab at describing exactly what is occurring.
As far as I'm aware, the trial version doesn't inhibit anything other than the time you have in which to use it before it requires you to purchase a license to use it. So closed captioning *SHOULD* be working.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Scrollbar for closed captioning in Captivate 5???

    Hi,
Why is Captivate the red-headed step child and doesn't have a way to scroll the closed captioning text???
Does anyone know if this is possible? Sure, you can increase the height of the closed caption box, though this is not correct usability wise as it will obscure the content behind it when it is visible even when setting the background of the closed caption box to semi-transparent.
    Dan

I hope there are no red-heads or step children in the forum audience, or you might just have made yourself unpopular.
Hair coloring and family circumstances aside, Captivate's default behaviour for caption text is much the same as that for most other Flash-based authoring applications.  For example, try adding a scrolling text caption to PowerPoint, or any of the Rapid Authoring tools based on that platform that produce SWF output.
It's very easy to bag an app just because it may not have A particular feature you want, and in the same breath ignore the fact that it also happens to have such a commanding position in the market because it actually does far more than other apps overall.
For example, if you DO want to create a scrolling text area in Captivate you can do so with this widget:
    http://www.dorna.nl/?p=574
Widgets allow for extension of Captivate functionality in more ways than you can count. How many other e-learning authoring apps can you list that offer that capability?
Maybe this explains why I've always had a thing for red-heads...

  • Editing the properties of the closed captioning area.

Is there a way to edit the properties of the closed captioning (CC) area.  I mean besides the number of lines and font type and size.
For instance in a responsive design project the closed captioning runs under the X to close the CC window in the phone view.
I know if they have a phone why would they want to see the CC, but someone has asked us to see about fixing that.

The file extension does not matter. It is an .html file. I put it right after the existing Style:
    <style type="text/css">#initialLoading{background:url(assets/htmlimages/loader.gif) no-repeat center center;background-color:#ffffff;position:absolute;margin:auto;top:0;left:0;right:0;bottom :0;z-index:10010;}</style>
    <style>
    @media screen and (max-width: 300px) {
        #ccClose {
            display:none;
    </style>
Also you might want to change the max-width to 400 or something. You can test in the broswer and then resizing until you hit the threshhold.

  • How to add closed captioning in Czech language in Premiere Pro?

    Hi,
I have subtitles translated to Czech language.
Copying them into closed captions blocks, result in showing some of the characters wrong.
    I am stuck!!!
    Any solution?

    This is just unbelievable.
So much struggle with those closed captions. So many hours of try and error, ending up with more error than not.
I followed all the instructions to embed closed captions in 2 different QuickTime output files.
One video shows the captions, the other shows it inconsistently. When it does show the closed captions, it skips the first sentence's caption.
Also, I used 2 colors in order to distinguish between the speech of the 2 characters who talk in the video. However, the colors do not always display accordingly.
Very often it shows the shows only one color or the opposite to my specification.
For the problematic video out of the 2, I have been trying almost all of the format presets available.
    Terrible !!!!!
    Help!!!!

  • Closed Captioning short line issue.

I am having an issue with Closed Captioning in Premiere Pro CC 2014. Whenever I create a caption that is very short, say, the word "No." or any combination of characters that is short, it screws up the following captions.
When the file is played, the caption previous to the short one feeds (in motion) across the bottom of the following caption in a single line.
Very strange. The only remedy, so far, is to eliminate the short caption.
    Anyone else having this issue?

The duration doesn't seem to be the issue. It's the number of characters in the text. Although, I guess that the duration on those caps are shorter. I've resolved the issue by making the text longer. For instance, I had a caption that simply said, "No." I changed it to, "(giggles) No." and the corruption went away. Once, I couldn't click the center position block without the caption disappearing. Only leaving the caption in the flush left position avoided the corruption. Just had the issue again, with a short line. The only way around is to combine words in a slightly out of sync fashion so that there are more characters in each caption.

  • Closed captions not synchronized

The kind of issues you are experiencing- captions being delayed, disappearing too quickly, etc. - are indicative of problems in the broadcast transmission path.  When we caption “Poldark” (and all of our shows), we time and review captions very carefully, insuring accuracy, completeness, and readability.  Captioning is reviewed twice more (by our technical staff, and again at PBS) prior to broadcast to find and eliminate any errors.  I suggest that you contact your TV provider (satellite or cable) in writing, and let them know what you are seeing.  There are several links in the broadcast transmission chain and captioning must be properly coded and flagged in order to pass through without errors.  Your provider should be able to troubleshoot and rectify any problems.  Sincerely,Pat McDonaldMedia Access Group at WGBH

I am unsure as to the actual answer, however, the "skin" that include the Closed Captions is actually an swf. The point of publishing to HTML is because some devices (ie I-pad) cant play the swf. So the HTML version skips the swf- which of course includes the "skin".
That said, I think the Table of Contents works in HTML, so maybe I am incorrect in sayin the "skin" is an swf. Maybe only the "playbar" is an swf. But it seems the CC is still related to the playbar.
If anyone knows how to use the built-in Closed Caption feature with HTML, I would LOVE to hear it. But I am suspecting the CCs will have to be done by hand.

  • Closed captions + SDH made a mess by Apple TV 6.0. Any fixes?

We've found that the Apple TV 6.0 software update made a mess of closed captions + SDH .  It suddenly changed the size and color and font on its own.  To make things worse, when we try to send them right with the new customizable closed caption style settings, we can't make them look like they did before the 6.0 software update.  The customizable choices are too small, too large, or much too large than they were before.

The movies are not orphaned. There is a flaw in the latest version. There are several posts on this issue. Actually be happy they are on AppleTV. Several of us have purchased through iTunes. We sync, but when the computer loses the link with ATV requiring a new code. When the code is entered it re-syncs itunes and ATV, but you lose the movies that were transferred to ATV requiring you to move movies back to ATV.
They are probably working on a fix.

  • CP5 and Closed Captioning

How can I adjust the timing of the CC?  I would like to move some to match the audio better.
I had hoped I could change the timing on the slide audio window but can't see how.
    Thank you,
    Susuan

    Hi,
After you have added closed captions to slides, go to 'closed caption dialog'. You can reach here by following shortcut "ctrl-alt-c" or by using menu item Audio > Edit > Slide" and select tab "closed captioning"
On top of the waveform, you will see black colored markers. Click and drag these markers to adjust the timings of every closed caption created on that slide. Changes in timing by dragging of marker is reflected in the timings mentioned below for every closed captions.
    Hope this helps.

  • Uverse TV- Closed caption on every time we power up. Can CC be permanently disabled?

Sorry if this is a duplicate post - I type it once and now don't see it after having to register an account with Toshiba.
I have a Toshiba Regza - no problem when we were with Time Warner Cable.  We just switched to ATT Uverse and the Closed captioning is in a permanent on position whenver we turn the TV on.  The settings on the uverse are in the off position.
The only way to turn off the CC is to use the tv remote, which we haven't used for several years.  The cable supplied remote control did everything.
ATT says the problem is on the Toshiba end and not ATT.  Which makes no sense to me since we didn't have this problem before they did the installation. But that is their answer so we are left looking for a different solution to this problem.
Is there a way to permanently turnoff the CC option on our Toshiba?  We turn it off using the TV remote but every time we turn the tv back on, the CC is back.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

ATT tech on the 2nd tier figured out the problem with a setting on the dvr box and the closed caption disappeared.  I knew it wasn't a toshiba problem but something created by AT&T.    My problem is solved.
