Closed Caption CS6

My understanding is you can only see and view Closed Captioning in Premiere, but cannot emmbed them in the export??
Currently I am using Adobe CS6 on a Mac using MovCaptioner to make a SCC file and Importing it into Premiere Pro.  I can see the CC on the program monitor, but does not show up on any of my exports.
I have no idea when it comes to closed captioning and our client has requested CC for the current project.  This is my first time dealing with Closed Captioning so any help/tips/advice will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!

Captions can be embedded in QuickTime files (it's an export option in MovCaptioner), but depending on the final output format, there are different ways to embed captioning for broadcast, and MovCaptioner can't handle that.  We use Episode from Telestream to encode captioning, but it often takes a few conversations with the broadcaster to get them to show up correctly (it seems to have to do with the different types of software used to ingest the files).  I encode films for broadcast, and the captioning can be a real pain - but as a last resort, suppying the .scc file is almost always sufficient.

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  My aim is to export an mpeg file with closed captioning embeded for network television.  I have watched numbers adobe videos and have spent countless hours researching this.  I am able to generate about 29 different types of Closed Caption files using MovieCaptioner- including .scc (which Adobe says they prefer).  When I try to "Import" the file I get an incompatible error message.  The same happens with all other cc file types when I try to import them.  Second, I tried attaching the .scc as an attachment in the sequence menu.  They show up in the preview window, but do no encode into the mpeg file.  I am aware of this form:  Re: How do I export closed-captioned movies from Premiere CS6?
Third- I have watched some adobe video for created the CC files within Premiere. http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cc/create-closed-captions-within-premiere-pro /
However, I cannot find the "Caption" menu to do so?  Where is it?
Am I running into problems because I am not on the Creative Cloud?  IF so, is it possible to upgrade and how do i do that.  Adobe has made it incredibly difficult to contact anybody.

Sorry, you cannot do this in Premiere Pro CS6. Only QuickTime files can be exported with embedded closed captioning and this must be done in Premiere Pro CC or later. All other formats must use a sidecar file.

You can only attach a closed caption file in Premiere Pro CS6, no encoding is available for closed caption files (embedded or sidecar).

Caption is a tab is in the Export Settings dialog box if you want to export with closed captions. This tab is available in Premiere Pro CC and later.

In Creative Cloud, you would still have trouble encoding a MPEG 2 file with embedded captions as it is a QuickTime only feature. There might be a plug-in available, but I'm not aware of it.

  • Creating Closed Caption in Premiere Pro Cs6

    Hello,
I am trying to create Closed Caption from the scratch in Premiere Pro CS6. I watched couple of videos of internet.
But I dont see "Caption" menu and when I create a "New Item", it doesn't show me "caption" option to create new caption.
Where I can find Caption Menu to create new closed caption in Premiere Pro Cs6 ?
    Thanks!

You have a few choices -- there are two commercial products that I have used and know about, to create sidecar closed captioning files that are usable in PPRO and follow industry standarads for CC: CPC (www.cpcweb.com) makes a authoring program called 'MacCaption' for MAC and 'Caption Maker' for WIN. Also, a German company (www.zeitanker.com) makes a program called 'Annotation Edit'.

  • Adobe Premiere CS6 for Mac, doesnt display the "subtitle/closed captions" option.

    Hey there,
im trying to add subtitles to my Project as it is being described in this Video: http://tv.adobe.com/de/watch/training-f%C3%BCr-videographen/untertitel-mit-premiere-pro-cc -erstellen/
The option im looking for is  "Untertiel" (german for Subtitle) as seen in this screenshot I made of the Tutorial Video
No if I try to do the same thing i get this:
The option "Untertitel" is simply not there!?!?! Why?
    How can I get it?
As is said I use Adobe Premiere CS6 6.0.5 on my Mac
I would be sooo grateful for any help.
    Best regards
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
The tutorial you are using as a reference point is for premiere pro CC.
However you are using CS 6 Premiere pro.
Closed captioning feature was introduced in Premiere pro CC.
I am afraid this feature is not present in CS 6 Premiere pro.
    Thanks

  • Closed captioning in Premiere Pro CS6

Is there a way to output embedded closed captioning that I attached to a video file to be sent to broadcast? I can see the captions in my program monitor, but I have not been able to successfully output the movie file with captioning either through Encoder or by playing back the timeline and recording on a external deck.

In the export settings menu there is a tab marked Captions. Below it are the export options. If the captions are present but not visible (You can check using MediaInfo) Perhaps you are outputting them to the wrong line (CC2 instead of CC1)

  • Are video closed captions possible on iOS devices via Flash CS5.5?

    Hello,
I'm creating a Flash video player with closed captions for my job and curious - if we buy Flash CS5.5 is it possible to save or port the video player with the closed caption option and have it work on iOS (iPhone/iPad) devices? We're trying to make all our current and future Flash video completely accessible to all users on all devices. If it is doable, any guidance received on how to do this is very much appreciated. If not possible is there any insight that this feature may be added to Flash CS6 or whatever it may be named?
    Thank you,
    :duane.

    Hi,
    Thanks for a speedy reply.
My app is basically a hybrid app (web app in a native container) When I was testing, the scrolling in my app did not work on iOS4 and the whole app was very slow but on iOS5.1 it was fine and very quick. I’m guessing the safari version made the difference.
I know it will get rejected if I submit it as they will test on iOS4 which doesn’t work well at all and I don’t want users using it on iOS4 as it’s a bad experience. I know I am probably going to reduce my installs if it’s only for iOS5.1 but its only a free App and I don’t see any option if on iOS4 it’s pretty much broken.
I really hope there’s an easy way or my last month’s work has been pretty much pointless.

  • Closed caption issue.  how to import a .scc  file into Encore

adobe help with Encore CS6. Making a closed caption track from .scc file made in Premiere Pro cc
I cannot get encore the import the Closed Caption file. It says software used to decode the media in not available on this system.

Are you sure you are attempting to add it to Encore correctly? You do not "import" the file the way you ordinarily import assets.

I do not have cc, and have not attempted it with a Premiere generated file.

  • Create closed caption within Premiere Pro

Question: I'm using Premiere Pro 6 on a intel Xeon mac osx 10.8.3. I need to do captions for my project. I followed the Tutorial on "Create closed caption within Premiere Pro". When it comes to going to the window tab and selecting Captions.
Problem: in my copy of Premiere Pro 6 there isn't  this option for selecting the captions buttton.  How can this be resolved ?

That tutorial is talking about Premiere Pro CC, which doesn't come out until June 17th.  The current CS6 version cannot actually create Closed Captioned files.  You need to do that in a third party program for import into PP.

  • Text caption in hidden not exported (export /project captions and closed captions)

If you have in your demonstration text caption (ballooons) in
hidden , if you export the project caption to word it's not in
    there...
I use to set some text captions to hidden to ease my life on
slides that contain lots of ballons (and some over other ones) ,
when I export the flash animation, everything is fine , all is in
there (including the "hidden text") .
The trouble is that if i export the "project caption and
closed caption" to Word , the text of captions in hidden is not in
there . (I'm not talking about exporting handsout where you have an
option to export as well hidden slides.)
Exept if I'm wrong, I have not founded any option to manage
the fact to export hidden caption as well (or set all hidden
caption of the demonstration to "not hidden") .
It is really a problem , especially if you have done lots of
movie that needs translation, you have sent the "exported caption"
to the translation service and now you realise that some parts are
    missing .... ;(

    Hi There,
When you export the doc file as Project Caption and Closed Caption. if you change the fonts and style in Doc file and the reimported it in Captivate. It will accept those changes and you can see those changes in Captivate with the same fonts settings.

  • Closed Captioning not showing up at specified In / Out points

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded to a trial of 7.2.1 (I'm a *long* time CS user) and am having an issue with closed captioning that's got me pulling my hair out. Upon importing a .scc file and inspecting it in the captions tab, I have all the captions I'm expecting at the proper timecodes (for example if I look up the start of a line in the program window the start timecode matches the "In" timecode listed in the Captions tab).
However upon playing the timeline and turning on Closed Caption display - the captions are not displaying (nor disappearing) at the in/out timecodes listed in the caption tab. They're showing up (roughly) seven seconds later at the beginning of the program, and over 11 seconds late by the end of the program.
Does anyone have the foggiest idea how to resolve this? I guess it's possible it's just a player issue and the issue will correct itself on output, but that's not really comforting. I could do what I need on this job by renewing my license for some other software, but Premiere would be a more versitile use of my limited software upgrade budget - but only if it can actually do the job properly.

    Hi Mark and monstremoi,
With all the fiddling I've been doing in raw captioning files the fact that I didn't just try increasing the hight of the track is completely rediculous. Lo and behold, there are the handles! Once I could actually see the captions in the track I noticed something interesting - that the .scc and .xml files are being interpreted quite differently.
If I take the same caption source file and output one xml and one scc and lay them on top of each other, this is what it looks like:
The XML is starting immediately at timecode 0, even though the first start time should be 4:06 (weirdly the scc is actually starting at the right time code in this test, something it's refused to do previously).
If I manually set the offset of the first caption by forwarding the xml caption track to 4:06 we get this:
*This* XML track seems to play out synchronous with the program albeit with some odd formatting (it doesn't appear to be reading any of the font positioning information from the timed text file, it's just playing everything top frame, justified left.
Already though up above you can see though that although the SCC stars at the right timecode, it's starting to drift out of sync less than 30 seconds in - which doesn't make any sense when both have been output from the same 29.97 timebase source.
Monstremoi - to answer you questions, no I've not done any captioning work in premiere pro previously. I actually didn't even know it was a feature until I read about the improvements in CC. Most of our captioning files come from Annotation Edit (zeitanker.com). If they're not prepared in AnnotationEdit / AnnotationTranscriber, we usually do some conversion work through it before outputting (usually to set offsets or whatever if we're adding presentation cards or something).
Happy to send you files to pull apart - although I'd rather not post them as a forum d/l link. Do you have an e-mail I can send them to?

  • New to OSMF - have several questions (closed captions, tutorial, etc), please help!

    Hello,
I came across OSMF this week and am extremely curious to learn more about this for my job and personal work/knowledge. If any of these questions could be answered I will be ever-so grateful!! Thank you.
    1) Anyone know of or have any information or tutorials or plug-ins on how to make OSMF videos work with closed captions for single or a multi-video player gallery for each video? (captions - this is very important for my job)
    2) Does anyone know of any good and easy to understand (I'm mid-level in AS3) tutorials and/or source files on how to build an OSMF player preferably in Flash?
    3) I know Flash Builder (Flex) some, but am better with Flash (CS4/5), but a lot of what I see is for Flex... what is preferred for OSMF - Flex or Flash or it doesn't matter?
    4) I searched Amazon.com, but couldn't find - are there any books for OSMF?
Sorry I posed this in Developers also, but unsure which is appropriate for my questions. Thank you, again.

    Hi, Duane!
This may help with your questions re: captions..
    http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/osmf.adobe/index.php?title=Captions
As for tutorials, we've got some links to ones created by members of the community here:
    http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/osmf.adobe/index.php?title=osmf.adobe:Community_Port al
And, as far as OSMF books, there aren't any third-party ones of which I'm aware. You can download a PDF of Adobe's OSMF Dev Guide here (the PDF link is at the upper right):
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/OSMF/1.0/Dev/index.html
Or, you can view the very same content in topic-by-topic form at the wiki in the links above.
Best of luck with your endeavors!

  • Free / open source Closed Captioning software?

I'd like to add closed captions to a feature film I produced. I understand the difference between closed captioning (which is embedded in the video and decoded by the TV) and DVD subtitles, and I would like to add real closed captioning.
Is there any free / open source Mac-compatible closed captioning software I can use to add captions to my feature film and create a .cc file for importing into DVD Studio Pro?
I'm more than comfortable with steep learning curves and X11 interfaces. If I have to use a text editor and timecodes, that's fine too. I just need that .cc file to add true closed captioning to my video, and I don't have the dough for commercial CC software.
    Thanks!

my company does offer closed captioning as a service, Kelly is correct when he says the software is very expensive. as far as creating a .scc file with a text editor, i don't believe it is possible but i may be wrong. when opening a .scc or .cc file in a text editor, it does look like a bunch of "gobbledygook". but the .cap file that is used to create the .scc or .cc file looks a bit more manageable and could possibly be created without captioning software, again i may be wrong and have never attempted to do it. but say you could do it, you could save a bunch of money by creating the .cap file and giving it to someone who has the software to convert it to .scc or .cc. if that seems overwhelming and want to job it out, you could save some money by transcribing the video yourself which is a significant part of the cost when outsourcing. here is a sample of what a .cap file looks like:

  • Movies playing in iTunes will not show closed captions

I have purchased several movies from the iTunes store. They all have Closed Captioning listed in the store description. I need Closed Captioning because I have hearing loss and even with my hearing aids, I cannot hear all the dialogue in movies.
In my iTunes app, I opened Preferences-->Playback and checked the box for "Show closed captioning when available." Then I play the movie in iTunes. No captions. I click on the Controls menu for Audio & Subtitles. It's grayed out.
I go to the .m4v file in Finder and open the movie with Quicktime to see whether I can get captions that way. No captions. I check the View menu for Show Closed Captioning. It's grayed out.
At this point I'm thinking these movies do not really HAVE captions, despite what the store description said. However, this proves to be wrong because I turn on my TV and start up my Apple TV 3. I select "Movies" and then "Purchased" and find these movies. When I play these movies via the Apple TV, they all show up on the TV screen with the captions working perfectly.
So, what gives? I've spent hours searching the internet for a solution, but all I can find is that the selection I've made in iTunes preferences *should* make the captions show up in iTunes. I'm stumped. I want to play the movies on my computer in iTunes (or in Quicktime) so that I don't have to be at my house in front of my TV in order the enjoy them. Is there any way I can make these movies play in iTunes with the captions showing? Can anyone make any suggestions? I'd be very grateful if someone could help me achieve this goal.

I have same problem with my son's iPod Touch running iOS 5.1.1.  I set "explicit" to off, but then many songs we purchased on iTunes that are labeled as "clean" do not show up on his iPod Touch. If I set "explicit" to on, they do show up.

  • Open with "Closed Captioning" on, or always show CC

I want to have my projects start with "closed captioning". I tried to down load the little SWF file, from the third party, recommended elseware, but it doesn't seem to work. It says it was made for Captivate 4, and I'm using 5.
Any help? Is there another way to set CC as the default?

Robert, I think the issue here is that after you insert the new slide and drag it to the first of the presentation, you then defeat the purpose of adding the new slide because you then configure THAT slide to execute the advanced action to set the variable.
The point of introducing a new slide is to introduce a delay that gives the presentation time to "settle" before turning on the Closed Captioning.
The bottom line is that you insert the slide, move it to the beginning and configure the timing for perhaps .1 or .2 seconds. THEN execute the action on the SECOND slide.
Give that a try and see if things improve.
    Cheers... Rick
