Closed Caption through Linked Movies

I have broken my training module into 5 files so that it
loads faster for the user from our LMS. However, if the user turns
on the CC in the first file, when the movie passes into file #2,
the CC is turned off. I saw Paul's wonderful widget for turning the
CC on automatically, but I only want the CC on in the second movie
if the user turned it on in the first movie. Is there anyway to
pass that information from movie to movie?
Another way to approach this is - how can I compress my file
size for faster loading so that I can have just one continuous SWF
file? There is a lot of audio involved here. Total file size is
about 20k.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to pass CC information
from one file to another. It sounds like a nice feature to request
for the next version, so you might want to consider submitting it
to Adobe via the following form:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=5
In the interim, if you have access to a Flash programming
whiz, they could probably create souped-up versions of Paul
Dewhurst's widgets that could do it. Barring that, you *might* be
able to create something using Paul's existing widgets and some
well-placed Execute Javascript calls, but the limited ability of
Javascript to interact with Captivate files makes it something of a
long shot.
As an aside, I'm guessing that you're not tracking your
users' progress via the LMS? I would expect daisy-chaining movies
to break the tracking and reporting abilities of an LMS...

  • Is this possible to put a Closed Captioned in small movie file

I ponder if this is doable, attainable and workable to do a small video file that a colleague of mine wanted me to put in a closed captioned into small movie - less than 2 to 4 minutes (three tiny small movie files). I try to explain that I don't think it is doable, attainable and workable to create a closed captioned into small movie file with Final Cut Pro X - especially with 320 in width by 240 pixel in length. My colleague insisted that I do it anyway.
I ask my colleague that if he has original movie file that I can work, so I can export the movie file that is larger than 320 by 240 pixel. He said no.
I told him that how is it possible for me to work with closed captioned into three tiny movie files for presentation-training purpose only.
My gut feeling tells me that it won't do any good, especially with TINY movie file with only 320 by 240. I told my colleague that it is MUCH easier to work with original file that is much larger than what he gave me. I mean, it is easier to edit and put closed captioned or whatever in any video footage.. whenever I am done with it, then export the finished file with closed captioned in it. I also explain to my colleague that if I work with file that is already exported movie file.. then I edit and put closed captioned in that exported file... then export it out of Final Cut Pro X, the quality would be considerable degradation.
Unfortunately, my colleague insisted that I proceed with the project. I hesistate that I'd waste my time for achieving nothing with no measureable result because my gut feeling tells me that my perspective is correct, no?
Am I correct? Is it worth it? Otherwise I'd tell my colleague that my answer will be a resounding no.
    Please advise. Thanks!

You are right that placing text subtitles on such a small size video is likely not great.
By default, FCP X does not support such a small video size; you'd have to blow it up to a standard size and then scale the result back down. But you can use a workaround to do all the work on 320x240 (see this web page:
http://library.creativecow.net/articles/payton_t/FCPX_Custom-Resolution-Timeline s/video-tutorial). That would lessen the losses.
    Still, definitely not great.

  • How can I use closed captioning with Netflix movies?

Any help from the community on how to be able to see closed captioning on Netflix movies; works with movies from iTunes?

Hm, Id really like to figure this out also. It bothers me to see my laptop screen out of the corner of my eye using my 30in. Its kind of stupid but, still bothers me.
edit: That was way to easy. Just close the laptop and let the bluetooth mouse wake it back up. I had tried it once before and it didnt work. Maybe I was just to impatient to wait the extra 10 secs.

  • Closed Captioning of iTunes movie rentals on iPhone

I rented a movie from iTunes that is closed captioned (Oceans Eleven) and I turned on closed captioning on my iPhone (settings, iPod, closed captioning on). Yet, no closed captions display when I watch the movie on my iPhone. What am I missing? Why are captions not able to be viewed?

OK, it was Oceans Thirteen, not Eleven. But the caption symbol is displayed in iTunes. I tried playing it on my iPhone and my Mac Pro, no dice. Captioning does not work on either system and captioning is turned on in both.

  • Closed Caption or Subtitles on Movies in iTunes for AppleTV

I bought an Apple TV Dec 2008 but am waiting for Subtitles or Closed Captions so that I can watch a movie. Does anyone know when they are going to appear? I am nearly deaf. I did rent one that I thought I saw CC on but it turned out it was not. Right now I have to use Netflix while my ATV collects dust. Nice "screen saver" but pretty expensive. Thanks.

I'm disappointed that I can't get the closed caption/subtitles on movies I've rented on iTunes. I'm pretty sure they exist, and if I had the physical DVD I could verify this. Will subtitles be available on Apple TV when they are available on the original? I tried the CC/subtitles on/off and nothing happened.

  • Closed Captioning for TV shows and more movies

I too hope that Apple will add closed captioning to more movies and TV shows.  Especially for all it's customers who have been blasting songs into their ears from their ipods.  The hearing impared population is growing!

  • Why are closed caption movies being pulled from iTunes?

As of today there is only one movie left in all of iTunes that is Closed Captioned. This is a real problem for those in the deaf community that have purchased iPods & iPhones, or even just those who use iTunes on Macs & PCs.
While Apple may not be fully liable, I am sure it is against the spirit of the ADA, and definitely not consumer friendly.
There is a small argument for blaming the movie studios for not providing CC content. Apple should be proactive in requesting movies be CC.
What is the reason for pulling existing movies that were CC and replacing them with non-CC versions?

If the CC movies are coming back, how does that work with those of use who purchased non-CC movies? I see 145 movies, not too many of which I want to see.
I love the Harry Potter movies, but I have a harder and harder time understanding them. My deafness is such that not only do I find it difficult to understand what's being spoken if there's a lot of ambient noise, but I also have a lot of difficulty with foreign accents (my being USian). My hearing is bad enough to qualify me for a TTY phone! The sound quality (even if the settings are the same in iTunes) is uneven across the movies, and all I want to do is watch the movie and understand what's being said!
If I can't get the closed captioning with the movies and TV shows on iTunes, I'll just have to purchase or rent from Blockbuster and the like.
It boggles my mind that iTunes has overlooked this issue. I guess you get what you pay for.

  • Closed Captioned Movies?

I bought a movie called "Meet the Robinsons" on iTunes Music Store. How do I access the closed caption for the movie? I am hard of hearing so I do not catch everything that the person would say in the movie.

only certain movies have captioning available, unfortunatly that is not one of them.
check out this thread for the full discussion and a list of films that are captioned.

  • Is there a way to make closed captioning persist in an Aggregator project?

    Hello,
I'm running Captivate 5.0.   My project consists of 12 movies, all which have audio and closed captioning.  (In these 12 movies, the default is to have closed captioning turned off.)  I then use Aggregator so the 12 movies can be viewed consecutively from the Aggregator SWF/HTM file.  When the Aggregator project starts playing, closed captioning defaults to off, which is what I want.  The viewer has the option to turn on closed captioning through the playback bar.  If turned on, the closed captioning displays fine until the next movie in the Aggregator project starts playing, at which time the closed captioning turns off.   Is there anyway to keep closed captioning turned on?  Otherwise, if the viewer needs closed captioning, they will need to turn it on 12x as they view the project...
    Thank you for your help!

Think you'll need the Save and Load Data widget from Michael Lund (cpguru). Then you could use a user variable that will be set to 1 if CC is toggled on in a movie, to 0 if it is not activated. This variable has to be saved and loaded in each movie, hence the widget (not free). On entering each file, you could create a conditional advanced action that checks the value of that variable, and depending on its value will toggle the system variable cpCmndCC.

  • TV@nywhere and closed captioning?

Is it possible to get closed captioning through S-video?
It's been a while since i used this tuner. I used it for a while till i installed an ATI all-in-wonder.
Now i am back with a different video card and back to the TV@nywhere. I remember being able to get CC with the TV@nywhere but i cant seem to get it to work now.
I'm using DirecTV connected through S-video with WinDVR3. The close caption option is greyed out.
I am also using the latest driver from MSI's website.
Is it becuase i'm using S-video? Does closed caption only work with coax (gross)?
    Thanks

I don't want to seem dense but the only thing I see available from their web site is drivers. I have the drivers installed that came on the CD with the MSI TV@nywhere Plus tuner card that I just bought. What is the "MSIPVS software from MSI's website". Do I need other drivers, if so, which ones.
    Thanks

  • Closed captioning---ugh!!

How can I get the closed captioning off my movies I downloaded to my Ipod?

When I play them on my computer with DVD Fab it plays normal but when I go to Itunes its has closed captioning. I downloaded my own movies with DVD Fab and it does all the work for but never see anything options with subtitle on it.

  • Itunes and Closed Captioning

Does anyone know if this is a option you can access once you have purchased movies from iTunes? Who would I contact to see if this is possible.

How does one get closed captioning on rented movies using Apple TV?

  • Closed Caption colors disappear

The closed captions look fine in Premiere Pro. When I export the video as Quicktime using "embed in output file" the captions show up but the colors are gone. Mostly - one random line of red retainied its color.
I have several diffferent speakers plus a VO so I want to use the colors to distinguish the various speakers. Any clue why every color change I used in PP disappeared in the QT file and all of them are now white? (All, except that one line out of a 12 minute documenatry.)
    Thanks so much.

Yay! I did what you said and can manually turn select the closed captions box in the slide notes and that adds them back in. I still have to adjust the timing, but this is a HUGE time saver.
What am I doing wrong to lose them in the first place? I added them origninally by double clicking on the audio in the slide timeline and then selecting the Closed Captioning tab. I then cut the text out of our script (in another application) and paste it line by line into the CC tab. It seems to work because I see the CC in the published file.
Should I only add Closed Captions through slide notes? I never bothered with slide notes before.
Thanks for all your help- you've saved me a lot of time and frustration already!

  • HT4613 Is it normal that closed captions do not show in the trailers and other promos, even if they are present in the movie?  I don't want to pay to rent a movie that supposedly has CC if it doesn't show up on the samples.

I want to rent some iTunes movies with closed captions, but in order to confirm that the CCs work, tried watching the trailers first.  I have CCs enabled on the iPod touch, but no captions showed up on the trailers or promos.  Is this normal?  Can I be sure that if a movie is marked with CCs, that they will be there if I rent it?  Thanks.

    Hi Karen
Unfortunately you will likely end up implementing either a totally manual system (meaning you just add a line at the top of your topic with your breadcrumb trail as you wish to display it, then link as needed) or you will have to resort to some third party solution that isn't part of RoboHelp's features.
You might also take a moment and suggest to the RoboHelp development team that we need some flexibility with this aspect. (Link is in my sig)

  • Why do I have subtitles over subtitles on some of my recently purchased Movies.? My closed caption option is turned off.

Why do I have subtitles over subtitles on some of my recently purchased Movies.? My closed caption option is turned off.
Recent purchases have been Avengers, John Carter, 30 days of night. All of them do it.
Please help me get rid of them.....

The subtitle only appears in the begining of the movie during the scene with the russians. The issue has been fixed where the subtitles appear doubled. Just a simple redownload from the cloud is needed. Make sure you delete the copy in the itunes library before redownloading. Heres the email I got today:
    Dear iTunes Customer,
Thank you for downloading the movie The Avengers. Unfortunately, the movie you received may have had issues with the subtitles. We have corrected the problem and a new copy is available to download, free of charge. To receive the new version, please re-download the title from iTunes.
Before downloading the new version, remove the current version:
    1) Open iTunes on your computer.
    2) Click on your Movies library.
    3) Click the movie to select it, and press the Delete key.
    4) Click Delete Movie and then click Move to Trash.
    To download the new version:
    1) Sign into the iTunes Store.
    2) Click Purchased on the right side in the iTunes Store under the QUICK LINKS section.
    3) Click on Movies and select the movie you want to download.
    4) Click the Cloud download icon to download the movie.
You will now have an updated version of the movie in your Movies Library.
To delete and download the movie from other devices, seehttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.
