Closed Captions - Appalling support - Section 508 for video non-existent.

Adobe premiere pro has horrific support for closed captions. I find it quite appalling that the page on captions is severely outdated and there is no commitment to nor desire to support, provide, or even assist with captioning beyond the poorly designed and non-intuitive caption editor which takes an Adobe Scientist to use. Adobe should be ashamed. There is no delay adding other functions to Premiere and the other CC products, but no urgency or desire to remotely address accessibility.
Are there any real plans other than the same unfulfilled promise over the past 12 months to provide real functionality, or we will continue to have to use third party applications for this?

First of all, Premiere Pro's closed captioning feature is not intended to be a replacement for closed captioning applications. The feature's intent is to only be able to edit them. I'm sorry that your expectation is that you could do all of your closed captioning work within Premiere Pro. If that is what you really want engineering to focus on, let them know here: http://adobe.ly/feature_request
I don't see any errors on the actual documentation per se, but if you do see any please let us know and we'll fix that.

If you didn't create an iCloud account on an iOS device or Mac, you don't have one. You can't create an account on a PC. If you were charged for an iCloud storage upgrade without having an account, contact the Apple online store at the bottom of this page for a refund.

Extract closed captions from OTA HD broadcast for use with DVD SP?

Hi, I'm out of my league here, trying to do a favor for a deaf friend. He will appear on a national TV show, and I'd like to capture his appearance and (if possible) burn it to DVD.
Of course, being deaf, he needs to see the closed captions.
What I've done so far is buy Elgato's eyeTV Hybrid. I can successfully capture HD broadcasts with their embedded closed captions (wow, is that gorgeous!).
I can use the eyeTV software to recompress the audio and video for DVD SP, but the captions don't end up anywhere that I can tell.
Is there any way to extract the closed captioning information for use with DVD SP?

I don't think FCP will ever have captioning tools, due to it is a specilized area of post production and third party companies have developed captioning software that addresses this area.
I use the only Mac captioning software, (Mac Caption, made by CPC) that runs on the Mac. The cost for the SD captioning version of Mac Caption retail cost $6,995 USD and the HD version is an additional $2000.00 USD. If your an educational institution, then the price is about half the list, (price can be negotiated with the company at the time of purchase.)
As you can see, this is about half the cost of the FCP suite and I really don't think that Apple will ever get into this area. Most production companies rely on captioning services. In our case, we are an educational facility and therefore must comply with ferderal law, so we caption everything we do, thus why we had to purchase our own software.
The software we use, can do what it is that you are seeking, it can read the caption data from a live video image an convert it to a .scc file, that can be then used in DVD authoring or tape production. It can also read the raster area of a 720x 486 video file and also convert the caption information to a .scc file, as well as creating subtitlilng .stl files for DVD's.
It can also do original captioning, as well as add a text track to QT streaming files, which is how you caption QT steraming files. You can even burn captions into the video image of a steaming file.
Again, most production facilities are going to have to rely on a captioning service, but because we have to caption everything, and most captioning services don't caption QT streaming files, this was another reason we had to purchase our own captioning software.

Closed Captioning using Compressor to output HD video

Has anyone tried to use Compressor to insert a scc closed caption file in a 1080p 23.98fps pro res file, then output it using Kona or Black Magic for broadcast specification?
Knowing that Kona nor black magic does NOT allow you to add a scc file to a HD 23.98fps file, is there as solution to make a Broadcast HD caption tape?

You need to use MACCAPTION to encode QT files with the .scc file. You can't do it with Compressor. QT has a CC track, but you need the right application do to it. MacCaption is the best option. Sorry, it isn't cheap...but it works well.

MSIPVS+MSI-Vox USB2 TV Tuner = No Closed Caption(CC) support

I bought the MSI Vox. Everythign installs fine.. TV is fine - But when you try to turn on closed caption on NTSC signals - Nothing! No Closed captioning. I kept a TV next to the computer (Your std. 13" NTSC) and CC is fine on the channel. I wonder if there is any workaround. I need CC to work. Anyone have any ideas - please post reply. Try using some other progs and see if you can get any CC as it migth not be a hard problem .. Just MSIPVS being it`s usual self.

PE12: asking "Where is file..." for a non-existent file

When opening a project in Adobe Premiere Elements 12, I'm getting the "Where is file..." pop up window. It's asking ...
"Where is the File 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiere Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?"
Which is odd because I didn't use any such file in the project, I only have Adobe Premiere Elements 12, and this is installed on a MacBookPro. So I'm not sure why it's looking for a tga file in a Premiere Pro folder in a non-existent C:drive.
I only have two video clips in this project. I'm using the cross-fade transition between titles and clips. The title template I'm using is "RedBulbs_Title". I've duplicated it several times and I seem to get that same "Where is.." pop up, one for each time I've used the "RedBulbs_Title" template.
Am I missing something in my installation?

I have a new project that I've created in Pe12. I get the message every time I open the file to continue editing. So, I created it, edited for a while, and save. When I open the file again, days later, I get the error.
It does seem to be related to the titles in Pe12. The error seems to occur once for every time the title template is used. I dismiss the error saying the file is Offline so that I can get to the project and continue working. Even though the file is considered "offline", the video doesn't seem to be mising any components.
I'm useing Pe12 for Mac, purchased new from Amazon.com. It was a clean install. There was no previous installation of Premiere Pro or Elements.
I have not imported any jpegs. My source files are .mp4 and the title graphics within Pe12. It's a very simple project.
The strangest part for me is seing a Windows error message on a Mac. I've never even opened the Windows install disk for Pe12, much less used it in the Mac.
Using Finder to search for the missing file returns no results as if the file doesn't exist anywhere on the Mac.
Am I correct in that the Title clips in Pe12 are not on the installation but on the internet? I seem to recall that the Title files had to download the first time I used a particular title in Pe. Could it be a problem with the downloaded files?
I'm re-installing Pe now. I'll let you know how that goes.
Re-installed over previous install hoping to avoid losing anything. Big mistake. Everything just crashes now. Uninstalling everything, preferences and all, and will do a clean install.

Does Apple support Blu Ray for video storage?

I have heard conflicting reports whether Blue Ray discs can be used for date storage of video. If so, how are Blue Ray discs formatted on iMacs?

We're talking apples and cigarettes here. I'm relying on information from the sales clerk.
He says I can use the Blu-ray discs as backup for data. I buy. Go home. Make burn-folder. Insert disc.... Reject. Disk-pop out. Go on forum. Realize I bin had...take back to Retail chain. Give refund.
But question I still asks is: smaller video companies need easy way to store HD quality video as data. Cheaply. And Blu-ray discs have that capability.

Illy CS6: 'unembed' option for images non existent?

Hello all,
Just wanted to ask a quick question about this much-hyped 'unembed' image option in Illy CS6.
I'm working on a PDF with like 40 or so JPEGs scattered about. Naturally I never embed images when I'm working on stuff like this in Illy - reduce file size, no need for it, makes everything way less clunky. However, I had to change comps so rather than cart around a folder full of linked pics I thought I'd just do a mass embed using the Links window. So far so good.
However, now I'm trying to save it as an (not-intended-to-be-edited) PDF. Before I was getting super clean outputs at like 5meg or so (well, actually they came out at 25meg but I ran them through Acrobat to reduce the file size... anyway). After embedding, they came out at like 60meg or whatever. OK, no big deal, classic problems with saving PDFs.
However, I _can't_ find a way to unembed the images, at all. I'd consider myself a really advanced user of Illy, but it's totally eluding me! I've watched videos of people who are doing the exact same thing - either getting to it through Links or the top tool bar - however in my case, I have a ghosted out 'embed', and that's it. Can't find 'unembed' anywhere... I'm just wondering, is this a feature that didn't make it to CS6 (rather just CC), and it was some sort of typo that means the PR release went out as it being for CS6?
NB: FYI, I of course just made like 6 images of each of the pages, then stuck them together to make a PDF which is like 3meg... all is fine, but I think from a purist's point of view one is better to save 'real' PDFs rather than images...

You need to have the Creative Cloud version of Illustrator CS6
In case the file is saved with PDF compatibility option turned on, you could open it in Photoshop and extract the images there

SAP EP - How to redirect in case of a reqest for a non-existent portal pag

I am not 100% sure if this is the right forum to ask my question but I will give it a try anyway.
I would like to customize the error handling of the SAP EP 6.0 in the following way. If a user tries to access a page of the portal that does not exist, the user should receive an error page describing the problem occured and should be redirected to the homepage after a short period of time.
In a portal environment with default configuration the user would immediately be redirected to the homepage. There is no error message displayed.
Does anyone know where to start digging? I think I need a better understanding of SAP EP error handling. I appreciate all answers, hints and suggestions.

I am sorry to start discussion on that topic again. But I definitely need some help. Due to Samuli's help I have been able to modify the error handling of the portal in the following way.
Customization:
User attempts to access a wrong url within the portal (e.g. http://<portal_server>:50000irjportalwrongurl). Instead of the standard "404 the requested resource is not available" error page I see my own error page. That's nice.
What did I do:
I added the following lines to the portal's web.xml (/usr/sap/J2E/JC00/j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/web-infweb.xml):
<error-page>
<error-code>404</error-code>
<location>/customerrors/404.html</location>
</error-page>
Additionally, I created a the 404.html file and put it in folder (/usr/sap/J2E/JC00/j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/customerrors/.

Well, I am using KM to make files accessible through the EP platform. If I access a KM file via the portal (http://<portal_server>:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/Public%20Documents/Testfile.txt)an extra window opens and shows me the content of the file. In case I enter a wrong url (e.g. http://<portal_server>:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/Public%20Documents/wrong_file_name.txt)I see the standard "404 The requested resource is not available" error page. But I want to see my customized error page.

I think I have to modify the web.xml of the KM the same way I did for the portal. But I do not know where to find the KM web.xml? Please could someone advise me where to look?

After the OS update I get asked a password for a non existing ICloud account.

Since installing 7.0 i have been asked for the password for an icoud account i dont remember the password of.
when i try the forgot password site i ask to be sent an email to that i have.
BUT I never get that email and I cant reset the ipad.
This is criminal, I have an ipad i bought and i cant use it because i forgot a password.

Acrobat 8 Pro Installation asks for a non-existent file

I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my Alienware laptop, FINALLY replacing the beta version. When I try to run the installation of Acrobat Pro 8 it gets most of the way through then stops, putting up a dialog instructing me to install my Vista DVD and point to AdobePDF.dll which is to be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Xtras\AdobePDF\i386. This, of course, is absurd, as there is not such folder on any installation disk ... but I happen to have a Vista install disk, so I looked anyway, searching all over the disk with no luck. Then I looked on my Windows 7 disk. No success in finding the errant file there, either. They I checked that folder on my desktop computer, which has the identical operating system. I found an AdobePDF64.dll file and offered it to the installer, but it didn't like it. I even checked an old WinXP 32-bit computer I had laying around, but no such file exists there. I'm stuck. I cancelled out of the dialog demanding the .dll file and the installation proceeded to conclusion. The resulting Acrobat installation reads PDFs fine, but doesn't write them. Any clues?

Thanks for chiming in, Bill, but it seems like you missed my comment about checking my other computer, same OS, same Acrobat 8, and it installed fine into 64-bits. It didn't ask for any files from other disks, and I've been using it on that system for almost two years in that environment. I am puzzled, though, as to why all files needed for installation of any program would not be included on the installation disk.

[CCM 5.0/perfmon] Adding a counter for a none-existing instance

I'm having the following issue with perfmon when adding a counter to a session (with perfmonAddCounter) :
I'm trying to add this counter "\\ccm1\Thread(test)\% Processor Time" BUT the instance "test" does not exist on the server. I would expect to receive an error (like under CCM 4.2) but it's not the same behavior.
And even worse : When I use perfmonCollectSessionData to collect the data, I'm getting an entry for this "gost" counter and its value is 0 and maked as good.
The only way to workaround this is list all instances before adding the counter to check if the instance exists or not.
Have you seen the same behavior ? Is it a bug ?

Closed captioning for video no longer works for iPhone 4 since iOS 5.0 update. Is there a fix for this?

Closed captioning while video-playing is one of the coolest features of iOS devices. But for my iPhone (and an iPad user elsewhere from the Net), ever since I updated to iOS 5, the closed captioning icon no longer appear amongst the list of icons when you play a video WITH a closed caption capability.
I have played videos with closed captions before prior to iOS updates and been having no problems till I tried with iOS 5.
I tried turning the setting on/off in the Videos Settings, tried deleting and re-adding the video to the phone and also rebooted the phone.
Hoped someone could find a fix for this. The community can try it on iOS 5 and see if it is also an issue for them since I haven't seen but rarely people having this issue i'm having.

My son has a similar problem since updating to the latest software on his iphone 4. He can make calls but the other person can't hear him. Facetime and Skype work fine - so it must be the lower microphone that is the problem. He's had it checked at the Apple store in Chiang Mai but they won't fix it - he has to get it back to the UK for service. It's 2 months over the warranty period but having checked around it seems this problem is widespread and Apple need to sort it fast!
I've updated mine and it's fine - but I'm gonna take out applecare before the warranty runs out as I'm not risking having a £495 phone that I can't use as a phone.
I was thinking of buying one for my wife this Xmas but no way whilst they are having so many problems.
COME ON APPLE - GET THIS FIXED WITH A NEW RELEASE ASAP!
