Closed captions while watching previews

is there a way to watch a preview with closed captions/subtitles?

A few other issues about closed captioning in Premiere CC 7.2.1:
1.  CEA-608 specirication has a maximum line length of 32 characters per line.  The software should address this fact by limiting text input or wrapping the lines or somehow alerting you if you are putting in too much text.  As it is now, Premiere allows you to input as much text as you like and doesn't tell you that you are outside the CEA-608 specification.
2.  There needs to be some global formatting available.  If you want to center all captions, or bottom align all titles, or make them all paint on or rollup1, it needs to be possible to change them all in one shot.  And also switch between CC1 and CC2; I don't see why that has to be locked after you start.
3.  The text of the caption shows on the timeline video track, which is great, but it would be nice if you could double click that text to edit it.  Now, when you double click the timeline track, it just goes to some random title.
4.  Importing linkage problem....  If I import a SCC or XML file with some captions and then go on to add 50 more or change all of them, Premiere keeps those changes, and does not update the linked SCC or XML file that I originally imported (now defunct since I made so many changes).  Fine.  But, if I delete that SCC or XML file from my hard drive, the next time I load Premiere, it still looks for that SCC or XML source file and if it can't find it, all my captions go offline.  Big problem.  Premiere is demanding that I keep around a defunct file that it doesn't even reference anymore.
Scott, I've had some luck with Subtitle Edit (www.nikse.dk), and it seems to deal with the SCC format pretty well.  EZ Titles is fantastic, but expensive.

  • HT1657 How can I turn closed captioning off?

How can I turn off the closed captioning while playing a rented movie on my Apple TV

    Thanks varjak paw.
I was afraid this was the case.  To the degree that Apple marches down this well-travelled road towards making money by trying to pound customers into submission with flashing ads, etc. that actually serve only to aggravate and drive away at least people like me (28 year user of macs) from both Apple and whatever is being advertised, and indeed get in the way of my being able to efficiently do what is my part of what I always thought was the core of the synergism between Apple and its customers -- them innovating to provide the best tools to help us to be creative and productive, then the company will find itself sharing that space with myriad other companies so bankrupt for ideas and innovation that they have no other possible strategy that to promote mindless consumerism.  That does not seem a place of strength for Apple and a complete forfeiting of its unique position.  Sad to watch.

  • Closed Captions not 508 Compliant!

In order to be Section 508 compliant – required by government (US) contracts – I need to be able to keep the closed caption on the screen until the user clicks or performs the requested task or indicates that they are done with that slide. Right now all I get is Closed Captions while the audio is playing. I know that I can add silence at the end of audio clips but the closed captions just blanks out when the audio clip is over. It is not physically possible for the hearing impaired to watch the action on the screen (how to use software for instance) and read closed captions at the same time, therefore the closed caption needs to remain “on” for the rest of the slide – or at least that should be an option. Without this option the closed captions and are useless for functional closed captioning and can’t be made Government (US) Section 508 compliant.
Does anyone have a work-around for this? We have Government contracts coming up and may have to get off Captivate if I can’t make this work!

I am unsure as to the actual answer, however, the "skin" that include the Closed Captions is actually an swf. The point of publishing to HTML is because some devices (ie I-pad) cant play the swf. So the HTML version skips the swf- which of course includes the "skin".
That said, I think the Table of Contents works in HTML, so maybe I am incorrect in sayin the "skin" is an swf. Maybe only the "playbar" is an swf. But it seems the CC is still related to the playbar.
If anyone knows how to use the built-in Closed Caption feature with HTML, I would LOVE to hear it. But I am suspecting the CCs will have to be done by hand.

  • Closed captioning for video no longer works for iPhone 4 since iOS 5.0 update. Is there a fix for this?

Closed captioning while video-playing is one of the coolest features of iOS devices. But for my iPhone (and an iPad user elsewhere from the Net), ever since I updated to iOS 5, the closed captioning icon no longer appear amongst the list of icons when you play a video WITH a closed caption capability.
I have played videos with closed captions before prior to iOS updates and been having no problems till I tried with iOS 5.
I tried turning the setting on/off in the Videos Settings, tried deleting and re-adding the video to the phone and also rebooted the phone.
Hoped someone could find a fix for this. The community can try it on iOS 5 and see if it is also an issue for them since I haven't seen but rarely people having this issue i'm having.

My son has a similar problem since updating to the latest software on his iphone 4. He can make calls but the other person can't hear him. Facetime and Skype work fine - so it must be the lower microphone that is the problem. He's had it checked at the Apple store in Chiang Mai but they won't fix it - he has to get it back to the UK for service. It's 2 months over the warranty period but having checked around it seems this problem is widespread and Apple need to sort it fast!
I've updated mine and it's fine - but I'm gonna take out applecare before the warranty runs out as I'm not risking having a £495 phone that I can't use as a phone.
I was thinking of buying one for my wife this Xmas but no way whilst they are having so many problems.
COME ON APPLE - GET THIS FIXED WITH A NEW RELEASE ASAP!

  • Closed Caption options do not work while you using Premiere 7.2.2 in Mavericks 10.9.3

I cannot view/edit closed captioning (Tabs, Sequences, etc) files (QT DVCPROHD) that have Captioning attached using Maccaption. I'm using Premiere CC 7.2.2 on Mavericks 10.9.3.
Another editor can view and edit captioning in another bay on Premiere CC 7.2.1 on Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Is there a new bug?

Here are some other things to try, when you don't see closed captions in PPRO:
-- Check to see if the Monitors in PPRO are set to the right caption standard
-- Quit project and app. Toss any .prmdc files from Users:<User Name>: Library: Application Support: Adobe: Common:Media Cache Files
        Relaunch PPRO and reopen project
    Or when all else fails:
-- Go to the source file, rename the embeded caption name
Reimport the closed caption embedded file with the new name

  • HT202157 In Settings on Apple TV2, while looking for Closed Captions, I accidentally changed the default Language to something I cannot decipher. I cannot read the lists to find English. Help?

Using AppleTV2, in Settings looking for closed caption aoption, I accidently changed the default language from English to something with hieroglyphics. How do I revert to English?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5255
Settings is the rightmost tab at the top.
Settings > General is the first choice under it.
Settings > General > Language should hopefully be the 11th item down, and there you should find English.

  • Importing Closed Caption .scc file into Premiere Pro CS6.  Closed Captioning is enabled but cannot see the Captions tab.  Also get error message when importing to bin.

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  My aim is to export an mpeg file with closed captioning embeded for network television.  I have watched numbers adobe videos and have spent countless hours researching this.  I am able to generate about 29 different types of Closed Caption files using MovieCaptioner- including .scc (which Adobe says they prefer).  When I try to "Import" the file I get an incompatible error message.  The same happens with all other cc file types when I try to import them.  Second, I tried attaching the .scc as an attachment in the sequence menu.  They show up in the preview window, but do no encode into the mpeg file.  I am aware of this form:  Re: How do I export closed-captioned movies from Premiere CS6?
Third- I have watched some adobe video for created the CC files within Premiere. http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cc/create-closed-captions-within-premiere-pro /
However, I cannot find the "Caption" menu to do so?  Where is it?
Am I running into problems because I am not on the Creative Cloud?  IF so, is it possible to upgrade and how do i do that.  Adobe has made it incredibly difficult to contact anybody.

Sorry, you cannot do this in Premiere Pro CS6. Only QuickTime files can be exported with embedded closed captioning and this must be done in Premiere Pro CC or later. All other formats must use a sidecar file.

You can only attach a closed caption file in Premiere Pro CS6, no encoding is available for closed caption files (embedded or sidecar).

Caption is a tab is in the Export Settings dialog box if you want to export with closed captions. This tab is available in Premiere Pro CC and later.

In Creative Cloud, you would still have trouble encoding a MPEG 2 file with embedded captions as it is a QuickTime only feature. There might be a plug-in available, but I'm not aware of it.

  • Embedded closed captions not viewable

I have read most of the threads on embedded closed captions in this forum and after experiencing similar problems I have come to the conclusion that embedding captions in QT .mov files is not properly implemented. I could be wrong. I hope someone can show that is the case.
    Steps taken:
    1) created a closed caption track in a 2:40 minute Video as the top level video track (V4 in my case) using the CEA 608 CC1 caption stream. Captions show up in the program window properly enabled.
    2) Exported the entire clip directly from Premier Pro CC 2014  as a Quicktime .mov file with captions "embedded in Output file" (also tried exporting through Media Encoder--same results noted below).
Closed captions DO NOT show up in the resulting .mov file when played in Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OSX 10.9.5, even with subtitles set to "automatic"
Closed captions DO NOT show up in VLC Media Player 2.1.5 or 2.0.5.
Closed captions DO NOT show up when the .mov file is imported into an iPad Air running IOS 10.1.1 and played in Safari. This is my target destination and is critical.
Closed captions DO show up when the mov file is re-imported into Premier Pro and that clip is active in the preview window.
Closed captions DO show up when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 7 when "Show closed captioning" is active in the "View" menu. Quicktime Player 7 reveals that a "Closed Captions" video track exists as track #3 in the mov file under "Movie Properties".
I have uploaded the .mov file discussed above and made it available for public download if anyone can help me figure out how to get closed captioning to work. It is intended to be played on an iPad from a Self-Guided Tour app under development, which will play it using the native IOS video player when the file thumbnail is clicked. If the IOS Video Player is the same as QT Player 10.3 on a Mac, it defaults to "subtitles automatic". I don't know for certain, however.
Please note that this file, while a draft version, is the property of the California Automobile Museum which reserves all rights to its use including reposting, copying or modifying.

Thanks for the posting on the forums here. I downloaded your file and I looked at it in the following places:
    GENERAL PLAYBACK MAC
    10.8.5 (12F45)
    with QuickTime 10.3
I could see the closed captioning in the player.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 (13A603)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.1)
I could see the closed captioning in the player -- had to set it under View-> Subtitles-> English CC
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 updated to 10.9.5 (13F34)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.4)
Closed captions are not being displayed, under any setting (choice is Off or AUTO) -- appears to be an update problem.
This is not just a failure of PPRO embedded closed caption MOVs, but also embedded MOVs from other closed caption authoring solutions like Telestream, and Annotation Edit.
I can log a bug on my side, but the problem is not in PPRO -- I'd check with Apple on this.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    VLC MEDIA PLAYER
It appears from my quick testing with VLC Media Player --  VLC Media Player is not detecting embedded closed captions in files from PPRO, nor from other industry standard closed caption authoring solutions, like from Telesteam, they make MacCaption and Caption Maker. I also checked embedded files from Annotation Edit, another widely used caption authoring solution, and VLC Media Player does not detect embedded closed captioning in those files, either.
I encourage you to look on the side of VLC Media Player for the failure to display closed captions.
    IPAD AIR PLAYBACK
In my testing, I did not test this equipment configuration. If you think you have a problem, please consider logging a bug.
Thanks again for posting here, I hope I answered your questions! If not, let me know, and I'll reply again.

  • HBOGO Airplay Closed Captions not working?

    I have an iPad2 and an AppleTV3.
HBOGO Closed Captions works fine on my iPad. As soon as I airplay it to my AppleTV, however, the CC disappear even as I toggle them on and off on the iPad. While holding down on the AppleTV remote's center button usually brings up a subtitle menu on Netflix or movie Airplay's from my computer, doing so on HBOGO Airplaying does nothing.
Has anyone gotten HBOGO CC to work on iPad Airplaying?
    Thanks!

    Loqwood wrote:
To turn off the subtitles you have to go back to the show/movie you were watching NOT THE SETTING MENU. Then you click and hold the center button. A menu will pop up. Turn closed captions to OFF. Once you have done that press "menu" to exit back to the program. Happy watching! (From our 12 year old.)
Finally!  Thanks, Loqwood.  This worked like a charm.

  • Closed Caption or Subtitles on Movies in iTunes for AppleTV

I bought an Apple TV Dec 2008 but am waiting for Subtitles or Closed Captions so that I can watch a movie. Does anyone know when they are going to appear? I am nearly deaf. I did rent one that I thought I saw CC on but it turned out it was not. Right now I have to use Netflix while my ATV collects dust. Nice "screen saver" but pretty expensive. Thanks.

I'm disappointed that I can't get the closed caption/subtitles on movies I've rented on iTunes. I'm pretty sure they exist, and if I had the physical DVD I could verify this. Will subtitles be available on Apple TV when they are available on the original? I tried the CC/subtitles on/off and nothing happened.

  • Have downloaded video but can't get closed captions?

Have downloaded video from Apple TV, and while it shows it should contain Closed caption, I can't find a way of getting them up on screen when replaying. Any thoughts?

It depends on if the content you are watching as any.  If you select and hold down the select button while playing the content it will bring up the content menu.  The subtitles tab will let you select what ever content is encoded for the show you are watching.

  • Closed Captioning with CS4 Premiere

    I need
to create closed captioning in CS 4 Premiere. But don't get confused with subtitles; I am talking about the cignal that is encoded on line 21 of whatever goes on air, and viewers can watch at home.
I used to do it in AVID using a simple software that created JPEGs, but it won't work with Premiere.
I greatly appreciate any info. Thank you.

Though for En CS5, this is the start:
    Closed captions basics
    About closed captions
Closed captions provide assistance for the hearing impaired. Through captioning, the audio portion of a program appears as text superimposed over the image. Closed captions include dialogue, as well as descriptions of sounds in the program. Only the NTSC television standard accepts closed captions; PAL does not.
You create closed captions using a third-party captioning application, exporting them as source safe format (SCC) files. You then reference the SCC files by assigning them to clips in a timeline, using the Video Clip Properties panel. Closed captions will synchronize with the source timecode of the video clips you assign them to.
Note: Closed captions are not supported for Blu-ray or Flash projects.
    Add closed captions to video
Closed captions that you add to your DVD project will only appear on the final DVD; they do not appear in Encore, in either the Monitor panel or Project Preview window.
1 In the Timeline Viewer, select the video clip to add closed captions to. If necessary, Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac OS) to select the video track separately from its audio track.
2 In the Video Clip Properties panel, click the Browse button for Field 1. Locate and select the SCC file that contains the closed captions, and then click Open.
Note: Moving the SCC file or the Encore project file will break the links to the closed captions. To reset the links, repeat these steps to select the video clip, click Browse in the Video Clip Properties panel, and reselect the SCC file.
That was from Page 149 in the CS5 PDF.
    Hope that helps,
    Hunt

  • Are there closed captions or subtitles?

Are there closed captions or subtitles in iTunes?

    Hi tpisk78.
In my option, you would be better off buying DVDs and Blu-Ray discs than downloading movies and TV programmes from iTunes becuase far more of the titles on DVDs have subtitles / subtitles for the hearing impaired / Closed Captions than you would find on iTunes.  Of course iTunes can replace a file in the iTunes Store with updated one to include CC, but they still lack a wider range.  On DVDs, you would find all movies in a series (ie: trilogy or similar) having subtitles yet on iTunes it tend to be just one or two of the movies having subtitles while the others don't.
For example: On DVD, 'Men In Black', 'Men In Black 2' and 'Men In Black 3' would have subtitles, yet on iTunes MiB do not have Closed Captions (CC) while MiB2 and MiB3 do. For Tim Burton's Batman, on DVD both 'Batman' and 'Batman Returns' would have subtitles yet I find that only 'Batman' on iTunes have CC but 'Batman Returns' do not have any.
'Flash Gordon' (1980) starting Sam J Jones, on iTunes do not have subtitles, but on DVD it do, same for Harrison Ford movie 'Firewall', on iTunes no CC while on DVD, it do. Don't get me started with the Iron Man trilogy
Of course, iTunes could later replace any titles that do not have CC with updated file which now do have CC.
But as a general rule of a thumb, you would find far more DVDs have subtitles than movies on iTunes.
    Same with TV shows.
    And, oh, another thing....
Sometimes a movie or TV show on iTunes would say it have CC, but when watching, it turns out to be in CAPS LOCK.
Subtitles and CC on iTunes is rather a bit of a step backwards.
