[closed] Compiz not holding shortcut key designation

Hi, I installed compiz as standalone and followed directions for compiz-deskmenu then compiz-boxmenu, I also generated menu items using AUR menumaker for compiz. I couldn't get the exact setup working. In compiz when I set <Control>space om "General>Commands>Commandline 0 the Command0 in commands changes <Control>space to <primary>space, I thought maybe just "implemetation no big deal" where the problem starts is that when I close ccsm the reference to <Primary> dissappears and only "space " stays effectively killing my space bar. So I changed it to <Super>z, now I get a menu but not when I middle click mouse but only when I scroll forward, so I had to disable "move prev" mouse binding that was for "view port switcher  move Prev". I do not mind this but why would the <Primary>space (which should be <Control>space change to just "space"? Also last strange bit is that for my saved shortcuts they only work when compiz database is flat file and not Gconf.
I appreciate any enlightement you may impart,
thanks again

  • How can I have a shortcut key that is not a JMenuItem

    Hi,
I'm trying to make "ctrl-f" a shortcut key in my program.
I know I can do this as a JMenuItem by:
    menuItem.setAccelerator(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_F, KeyEvent.CTRL_MASK));
However, I would rather not have it in the menu.
How would I do this without having it as a JMenuItem?
    Thanks,
    Daniel Lorimer

As a user I hate designs like this. How am I supposed to know what all the shortcut keys are? Using a menu item is a form of self documentation
Anyway, check out the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/keybinding.html]How to Use Key Bindings.

  • PP CS6 PageUp & PageDn shortcut keys not working

Heads up... This may look like a simple topic that's been covered before, but read on and you'll see it's different.
I've been using Premiere since v5.5 (Windows 95, not CS 5.5!). I use lots of shortcut keys for all my apps. Premiere has always used PageUp and PageDn to move the cursor to the next edit point (any cut video or audio clip). In PP CS6, I went into change the shortcut keys for those two commands to the same ones I've been using for years. PP CS6 has two sets of options for cursor movements: Selected Track(s) or Any Track. The Any Track is the way it's worked before in earlier versions of PP. I set the Any Tracks Next/Previous to PageDown and PageUp respectively. The actual keystrokes appear in the hot-key window when I press them so I know PP sees the keys and knows what they are.
When I saved the shortcuts and went to the timeline... nada. PgUp and PgDn do nothing. This has nothing to do with selected video tracks as I'm using the Any Tracks option. To do a further test, I changed the shortcut keys to Ctrl+PgUp and Ctr+PgDn for Any Track. When I  tested that out, it worked perfectly. So this appears to be a bug of some kind. I've been using PgUp and  PgDn for many years. I certainly don't want to have to hold the Ctrl key down while Paging Up and Down to move around the project from clip to clip!
Does anyone have a solution to this one?
    Thanks for your help...

"But you can set any shortcut key to suit whatever keys you have available."
Yeah, I know, but every now and then I have to reinstall and then there's the agony of changing again from the defaults :-( In the end, like 'em or hate 'em, sticking with the defaults usually makes for an easier life. I say that as someone who has been commercially programming since 1967 and forced to use practically every crazy language and stupid machine ever invented ;-)

  • My shortcut keys on CS6 are gone. I get a message to reinstall CS6. I would rather not go through the hell of getting the license key for Adobe. Any options?

I get the message that my shortcut keys have gone missing.... And the message says to reinstall Photoshop CS6. I would rather burn my arms off than go through the hell of reinstall with Adobe's horrible licensing process. Please help me avoid this! I tried system restore on my Windows PC to no avail. Any solutions or downloads I might try?
    Thanks for any help.
    John

Not sure what you mean when you say "Adobe's horrible licensing process". If you have a valid license key code you type it in and you are done. The program, licensing system, checks that key against the online system and if it is valid and not installed on more than 2 computers at the same time you don't have to do anything else.
If the version of CS6 you are using is an Upgrade version then you will need to type in a valid license key from a qualified previous version. Again once that is done and it is checked against the online license system you are done.
As to your problem with the shortcut keys going away I "Think" that is a problem with your computer more than with Photoshop. Some how the file that holds the default and user edited keyboard shortcuts has become corrupted or you have somehow deleted it. If it became corrupted that is a Sure Sign you have a hardware problem. More than likely some type of hard drive problem, the drive might be on it's last legs, it is failing and will need to be replaced.
One thing I suggest you do from this point forward is make regular backups of your complete system. Like doing it every week if not more. That way when, NOT IF, you have similar problem you can restore your system from the most current backup. And if it is a hardware failure, like the drive going bad, you can restore your system to that state once the hardware problem is fixed.
If you do have a hardware problem, like the hard drive is dying, reinstalling PS won't stop it from happening again.

  • BUG: KEYBOARD SHORTCUT KEYS DO NOT ALWAYS ACTIVATE A SERVICE (A WORKFLOW)

BUG: KEYBOARD SHORTCUT KEYS DO NOT ALWAYS ACTIVATE A SERVICE (A WORKFLOW)
When you assign a keyboard shortcut to a Service (such as a Service Workflow created in Automator) using the System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts, if that shortcut key combination includes the Command key, pressing that shortcut will always successfully activate the Service. No problem there.
However, shortcut key combinations that do not include the Command key (for example, the shortcut key combo Ctrl-Shift-D) WILL NOT activate the Service in any newly opened application, until you click on the Services Menu option in that application.
As soon as you click on the application's Services Menu, this seems to bind the shortcut key combo to the Service, and thereafter, that keyboard shortcut will activate the Service in that particular app. But if you then quit and reopen the app, you'll find the Service will once again lose its binding to the shortcut key combination and will thus fail to work again.
This means that shortcut key combinations such as Ctrl-D, Ctrl-Shift-D, F15, Alt-F15, etc are not really viable shortcuts for Services, because they will not work in any newly-opened application until you click on the Services Menu in that application.
This bug thus greatly limits the shortcuts that you can employ for Services, because you can only reliably use shortcut key combos that contain the Command key. This is a fault that Apple really needs to fix. This is a very old glitch: I notice it is present in Snow Leopard 10.6.8, as well as Yosemite 10.10.1.
This bug does not apply to application shortcuts, however, or to other shortcuts in the Shortcuts Preference Pane, just to Services shortcuts (including the Mac's default Services, or any Services you make yourself using Workflows on the Automator software).
    To give some examples:
The following keyboard shortcuts for Services WILL NOT work until you click on the Services Menu in the application you are using (and they will cease working again when you quit and reopen the app):
    Ctrl-X
    Ctrl-Shift-X
    Ctrl-Alt-X
    Ctrl-Alt-Shift-X
    Alt-X
    Alt-Shift-X
    F1, F2, F3, etc
So until Apple fixes this bug, the above type of key combinations, that do not contain the Command key, are best avoided as shortcuts for Services. It is particularly unfortunate that function keys F1 to F19 do not work reliably, as these would make great single-key shortcuts to Services.
However, the following sort of keyboard shortcuts for Services, all containing the Command key, once set up will always work without fail:
    Command-Alt-X
    Command-Ctrl-X
    Command-Shift-X
    Command-Ctrl-Shift-X
    Command-Alt-Ctrl-Shift-X
    Command-F1, Command-F2, Command-F3, etc
So all the above can be reliably used as shortcuts to Services.
    Here X denotes keyboard keys such as A, B, C, 1, 2, 3, =, \, [, etc.
Note that even for keyboard shortcuts containing the Command key, you may very occasionally need to click the Services Menu to get them to work initially in an application (notably in the System Preferences application itself). But if this is necessary, it is just required once when they are first set up, and thereafter the shortcuts containing the Command key will always work without fail.
The above was tested on Yosemite 10.10.1, but most likely applies to other versions of OS X as well, as I believe this bug is an old one. This bug is definitely present in Snow Leopard 10.6.8, because I have observed this same fault in an old Mac I have that runs Snow Leopard.
I have reported this bug to Apple, so hopefully they will see my report and act upon it. However, it might be an idea if others also report this problem of Services shortcuts not working property, to ensure that Apple get the message. You can report a bug to Apple via their bug feedback page here.

Exactly where do you want to use a GO BACK "shortcut" in Bridge?  Maybe I don't even understand what you mean by Go Back.  Bridge is only a file browser, nothing more. It doesn't open, edit, manipulate or save files at all.
Are you simply referring to going back to view a folder that you viewed before?
Please don't take this a criticism.  As someone who will gladly pay money not to have to learn any shortcuts at all, I'm just puzzled and curious, that's all.

  • Brightness shortcut keys not working in Windows 8 or 8.1

I'm no longer able to use the brightness shortcut keys after I've installed the Lenovo power management tool in Windows 8 on a Ideapad U300s.
When the Lenovo power management tool is NOT installed on the system, pressing the shortcut keys brings up the Windows UI in the upper left hand corner of the screen and the display bridghness is adjusted accordingly.
However, as soon as the Lenov PM software is installed, the Windows brightness indicator shows up ONCE and I can no longer adjust the brightness with the shortcut buttons.

At the moment, there aren't any Boot Camp drivers ready for Windows 8, so it's normal that you have problems. Wait until Apple updates Boot Camp drivers, normally with a OS X update

  • Shortcut keys NOT working when publish to PDF full screen

We have a series of modules that are published to pdf and the animations run inside the pdf file. We use the Tab shortcut key quite a bit as it simulates the natural progression between form items.
This works fine when viewing the pdf in standard mode. But when you right click on the PDF and go full screen, the Tab key fails to work. It wants to place emphasis on the playback controller.
Has anyone experienced this issue, and do you know the workaround?

If the PDF's page content is not renderable text (e.g., the scanned image/picuture of characters or outlined fonts (which are graphics (a "picuture")) then there is nothing for the Highlight Comment tool to work with.
    So - two trials.
Acrobat's Preferences set to permit "U" to make use of the Underline tool.
Each trial done in Full screen.
#1 = a PDF with scanned stuff. Press "U". Tool is available but unable to highlight anything.
#2 = a PDF with renderable stuff. Press "U". Tool is available & can place highlight over selected characters.
    Be well...

  • Staroffice 8 Zoom Shortcut keys not working

    (Solaris 10, Staroffice 8 U3 rev 2, Sunray)
The shortcut keys for zoom in Drawing and Presents used to be the "+", "-", "/" and "*" keys (with num lock ON).
    The issue:
The + and - keys still zoom in and out, but the / and * keys no longer zoom anything
    What I am expecting:
The "/" should zoom to the "selection" and the * key should zoom to the page
    Notes:
    - the "zoom" button is enabled in a toolbar, and it changes to the appropriate "icon" when I hit the / and * keys, but nothing happens to the view
    - I have tried this with different keyboards.
    - I have tried this on openoffice on a mac, with similar results
Could this be a bug, or is it something i'm missing?
    Cheers,
    - jd

Also the toolbar icons are not working as expected.
When I'm pressing zoom-in or zoom-out the position of the worksheet is shifting to another coordinate.
Zooming in to a specific point is not possible, so I have to zoom-in first and then reposition the worksheet next.
Zooming out also ends up with an extra repositioning of the worksheet.
DM is 3.1.1.703, OS is windows 7.
Any feedback if this is reproduceable on other installations.

  • Shortcut keys in E17 with not english layout don't work.

    Hello,
I use E17 on my old dell laptop. The problem is when keyboard layout switched to not English one I can't use shortcut keys like ctrl-c, ctrl-v, etc.
I tried to configure layouts via xorg configuration, created /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-keyboard-layout.conf and added xkbevd to DAEMONS. But seems E17 don't affected from xorg and I still have same behavior.
Dose anyone had same problem? Any suggestions how to fix it?
    thank you

I've had a similar problem, with a need to provide
    keyboard-only accessibility.
I found that users can Tab into the movie. Once they're in,
shortcut keys will work, and fields, rollovers etc can be tabbed
into. It just means you have to advise them of this in an
    introduction to the project.

  • Not responding before press and hold any key

I have to press and hold any key on my blackberry 8520 before it response. This started after downloading some app from the appworld. I hv perfomed the security wipe for more than 3 times and still the problem exist. Need some help pls

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It sounds like those apps may have corrupted the OS, and therefore an OS reload may be required. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

  • Shortcut key Ctrl+L does not work. How to fix it?

In my Photoshop Elements 9 and Photoshop Elements 11, The shortcut key Ctrl+L for Level does not work. I press it, the Level does not show up. How may I fix it?

    1. Make sure that your image is in RGB mode. Go to Image Menu>Mode>RGB.
    2. Check that no two layers are selected in the layers panel.
Even then the shortcut does not work , then it that case you can always use the workaround "Enhance Menu>Adjust Lightening>Levels.

  • Shortcut keys not working properly in Pages

    Hi All,
I have been putting up with not being able to use shortcut keys for cut, paste and undo for months now. One of the threads here advised to use System Preferences to set up shortcuts, and I did this, and it seemed successful.
I then found out that although my document was being preserved by the command + S that I had used throughout, I couldn't trust it to be up-to-date. I found out the hard way because I lost a page (which takes a good half hour to do) and I can see if I look at command + i as it shows the time when the saving was done. If I use Save from the menu bar, it saves immediately. If I do command + S it may show some earlier time - could be hours earlier or it may be current.
What is going on? Does anyone else have that experience?

You can't permanently remove shortcut keys as they're built into Pages. (Well you can, but you've got to install and use the Xcode Developer Tools to directly edit Pages.)
But I have seen shortcut keys overridden in one program by another program. For example, System Preferences can do this, as can items in your Services menu.
You mentioned that you've used System Preferences to set up shortcuts. I would guess that this has overridden you shortcut keys in Pages. Can you check this? Or even remove all the custom keyboard shortcuts from System Preferences?
