[Closed] KDE Crash Handler appearing when programs close properly
I've been having this problem with KDE 4.8 and 4.9. The KDE Crash Handler is popping up every so often when I close a program, telling me that the program crashed when it didn't. It occurs every time I close KLook (a quick viewer for Dolphin). It also occurs every time I log out or poweroff from KDE, reporting that Plasma Desktop Shell and then KWin have crashed. The dialogs prevent the system from doing anything until I dismiss them, then the system logs off/shuts down normally.
If anyone else is having this problem as well, speak up and we can submit a bug report. I have not yet because I am not sure if this is just an issue with my system or if there is a way to simply prevent the Crash Handler from opening (and I would also have to install debugging packages!)

I did some searching on the Bugtracker (after finding the actual name of the Crash Handler is drkonqi) and discovered that this problem (apps crashing when logging off) goes back to KDE 3 and has never been solved from what I could see. This bug report has been ongoing since 2005! The original poster has a simple solution though: remove the binary! I'll probably do that, since I really don't find it to be any use.
This report says you can turn it off with KDE_DEBUG 1 (maybe it was supposed to be 0?) but I don't know where I would set that. KDM config files maybe.
EDIT:
I renamed /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi and am now blissfully free of the crash dialog. KLook works perfectly. Logging out is still slow: nothing happens, then blanks, then pops back up with Plasma and the last desktop, then blanks and continues. It's not smooth, but now I don't have to fiddle with it just to log off.
I hope the devs will fix this for KDE 5.

Everytime I start up my PC and open Firefox, the crash report will appear. The crash report does not appear subsequently, it only appears when I first open Firefox. I do not seem to have problems when using Firefox otherwise, though I do get new Firefox windows opening and showing me spam.

Norton's Intrusion prevention system is causing the crash. You could try updating Norton. If that doesn't work you could try to disable Norton Intrusion prevention

Closed Captions don't appear when I play my video exported with Premiere Pro CC
So, I've spent some time researching this, but can't seem to get anywhere. I'm fairly new to Premiere Pro and I've created a sequence with closed captions. I've tried exporting several different ways (Quicktime, H264, etc.). I've also been careful to include a sidecar closed caption file or to embed the closed captions within the video when exporting using Quicktime. I've also been sure that both files (the movie and the scc file) are in the same place. I've tried playing different versions of the exported video on Quicktime Player and VLC, but have had no luck getting the closed captions to appear. In Quicktime player I've tried it with the closed captions activated, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. In VLC I've tried the Advanced Open option which enables you to select the subtitles file you want to load with the movie. Once again, no luck. I've tried dragging and dropping the .scc file onto the movie while it plays. I've tried selecting a Subtitle track using the video drop-down menu. Once again, no luck. I've tried exporting from Premiere Pro with the sidecar file as a .mcc file and that didn't work either. I even tried converting the .scc file to an .srt file via some online app.
Anyway, I'm stumped. All I want to do is to get my movie to play with the subtitles with some simple application. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
S.@@Sorry, Fritz. It's been a while since I really looked at the Closed Captioning help page, and I just assumed that the New Caption workflow is covered there. And a second apology because the state of that page is at least partly my fault insofar as I promised our technical writer months ago that I'd help flesh out this page.
You're not doing anything wrong when it comes to adjusting the start/end times for caption blocks. Caption tracks in the Timeline are basically display-only. The apparent handles are really just indicators; they're not interactive. I believe it's on our roadmap to make them interactive, but I have no idea where that enhancement sits in the priority order.
I'm not sure what you mean about "each caption track block [being] limited to just over 30 seconds." If there's a maximum duration for a caption clip, it's probably up at 12 or 24 hours. I've worked with several that are longer than an hour. As for individual caption blocks within a clip, my memory has grown fuzzy in the months since I worked on the feature, but I think the program does not enforce a limit on the duration you can give a block. However, there may be a limit on how long a given caption block will actually get displayed. I thought that limit was 15 seconds, but I just did a test with blocks of 10, 20, and 40 seconds, and all of them had the full assigned duration in the encoded output. Could be that the limit I'm thinking of is standard-specific... Come Monday, I'll have to check with colleagues who have remained closer to the feature set.
Note that if you add a caption clip to a sequence before you've finished adding the blocks, then you'll need to trim out the clip after increasing its duration by adding blocks.
Lastly, although Premiere supports authoring captions from scratch, the feature set was conceived chiefly for importing captions created in a third-party authoring tool and, as needed, revising the content and adjusting the timing. -
Adobe flash 11.01.152 is crashing and firefox will not close properly
when I go to a site such as Castle Empire Adobe Flash crashes and hangs up fire fox then eventually will report the crash. When I close firefox then try to open it again I get an error message of firefox still running. This does not show in task manager as an Application running but does as a process. I have to stop the firefox.exe*32 before I can open firefox again.
I'm running Windows 7 and have all the latest updates.It is not generally advised to install software in Windows Safe Mode. Only a small subset of the Windows operating system is loaded in Safe Mode. Some software will not install at all in Safe Mode. Some users installing software in Safe Mode have ended up with problems "down the road".
If you can not install software in regular Windows mode, that '''''may''''' indicate a problem with your Windows installation which needs to be investigated, sometimes by a professional.
You may sometimes be advised to un-install in Windows Safe Mode when a program will not otherwise un-install, but the un-install is not as complete.

PrP crash report generated when program closed in normal manner
Just today a Motocross project Ive been working on for 2 weeks is acting a bit strange. Whenever I quit the program in a normal manner, 15 seconds later I get the "Crash report generated" screen. The only thing I have done to the project recently is I went in and cleared the caches prior to switching from Preview using Prores back to MPEG I frame. I have had no problems rerendering the timeline or anything. But this error screen is kind of spooking me a bit.
Never mind. After posting this entry to the forum it stopped.

OS 10.7.5; FF 20.0
Firefox will automatically resume your previous session if it detects that it crashed. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot that on Mac, but you could check out the "Firefox hangs when you quit it" part of this article: [[Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix]].
You might also want to review your home page setting as some tabs might appear there that weren't intended to open every time you start Firefox:

Hey, I am new to mac and still getting used to it (making the transition from windows), its amazing! Anyhow, I cannot figure out why my itunes and other media like youtube or a film on vlc player continues to play once the lid has been closed. I thought that when i close the lid the macbook should then sleep. It does everytime when there is nothing playing. The little white light on the bottom right hand corner of the book is on but music continues to play.
The sleep option always works. If I press the power button and choose the option sleep it does so etcc.
Is this normal and am I just being stupid or is there a problem??
I bought the laptop from ebay, its a macbook pro late 2011 17inch. I dont have apple support and might have to make a trip into London to the mac store however I was hoping someone can help me...
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Thanks if you can it is muc appreciated....!!hey, thanks for the reply. I don't know to be perfectly honest. When I close the lid without any music playing it sleeps fine. How could I check?
So basically I pressed the power button and pressed sleep. The laptop turned off and the little white light turned on no problem. I did the same thing with closing the lid and it went to sleep no problem. (Can you confirm that when the little white light is on it means the laptop is sleeping)??.
I then had itunes playing and pressed the power button and when i pressed sleep the music paused then 6 seconds later it went to sleep. I then had itunes playing and closed the lid and the music kept on playing even though the white light was on.
What do you think jessejarvi? -
It used to re-boot with the tabs and sites I had asked it to save when I closed down last. Now when I close it doesn't ask if I want to 'save tabs'. And it re-boots with the same three sites which I must have saved once months ago, without asking. I've tried deleting the unwanted sites from 'history' but it still somehow finds them. Not a big deal, but irritating, so if someone can help, I'd like to be able to fix it - Robinmarriage
I couldn't find a way to resolve the problem through firefox. The saving or not saving passwords with or without asking was ridiculous. However, I did find a solution, a firefox add on called Last Pass. I've been using it now for a couple of weeks and love it. I only have to enter the main password for my Last Pass acct and from there any site I go to Last Pass captures my info, then asks if I want it saved. Give it a try it's really easy and does what it is supposed to do. It even gave me the option of disconnecting firefox's not so reliable password mgr.

Firefox crashes and the crash reporter appears in my screen
Hello,
Crash reporter appears when I am trying to open the browser. I click on Mozilla's shortcut but no website opens..just the crash reporter appears the following message:
"Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts."
It happened after I downloaded and installed some exe. files like live.ID etc.(It's for watching football games just with network access). After that I restored twice my computer at earlier time periods when firefox worked perfectly but still the crash report appeared.
It's really important for me to get back my bookmarks and passwords since I am an MSc student at the end of my course and time wasting at such a critical time period for my studies could be disastrous!!
I would appreciate your quick response..
Kind Regards,
Amalia Sfakianakiyour crashreport say that you are using Firefox 9 beta, please try Firefox 8 and check

"Dreamweaver quit unexpectedly" when I close the DW CC program
Though it doesn't seem to effect anything and my files appear to save as they should, I keep getting the "Dreamweaver quite unexpectedly" error and report when I close the program. This happens the CC version and I think it might have been happening in the CS6 verion prior but I'm not sure. I hate to clog the space here with the entire report but not sure what else I can supply you with as it is everything I have. So it follows. Please help. Thanks.

How to handle event when the user closing the browser (Urgent Please)
Hi,
How to handle the event when user closes the browser....
i want to display some alter message when user trying to close the browser...
Please can any one help me how i have to do this...........
Thanks.Finally got this working. You cannot use the stop() or destroy methods. By the time they are called all database connections are gone and you will get a null pointer exception.
You will have to use the onBeforeUnload method in the html file that calls the applet and use JavaScript to call the save method in java which saves the document:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JScript" TYPE="text/javascript">
function Save()
//i call the applets doSave() method from here in which i save all
//changes to the database
top.Tree.document.TestApplet.doSave();
//this will invoke the default IE message for closing the window
//when user clicks on the x in the browser
message = "Your document has been saved."
return message;
window.onbeforeunload=Save;
</SCRIPT>
//the applets doSave()
public void doSave()
//this frame provides user with the message that document is being
//saved
final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Saving");
JPanel contentPane = new JPanel();
JLabel label = new JLabel(" Please wait, saving document...");
frame.getContentPane().add(label,BorderLayout.CENTER);
frame.setSize(250, 100);
frame.setLocation(300, 400);
frame.setResizable(false);
frame.setVisible(true);
frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter()
//the frame is just for user's information, so prevent user from
//closing it or iconifying it.
public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e)
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DO_NOTHING_ON_CLOSE);
public void windowIconified(WindowEvent e)
frame.setState(frame.NORMAL);
//call my saveDocument() method that saves everything to the database.
editorModule.saveDocument();
//System.out.println("finished calling saving document");
//once the saving is done the frame with the message disappears
frame.setVisible(false);
//System.out.println("setting frame to false");
//I also had an exit button in my applet, that would perform the same task, however now with the above onBeforeUnload method, the exit message would appear twice, so had to modify my exit button action performed, so that if the exitbutton was clicked the onbeforeunload method would get passed a null value and not do anything.
private void exitButton_actionPerformed()
if (DEBUG) System.out.println("Calling exit");
doSave();
window.eval("this.onbeforeunload=null;");
window.eval("top.close();");
//continue from here if user cancels the closing of the window
window.eval("this.onbeforeunload=doSave;");
window.eval("top.focus()");
window.eval("document.TestApplet.requestFocus()");
homePanel.requestFocus();

when i close firefox at any page and also when i close my pc and then i open the program i find it open on last page which i closed at ,, although i made home page for it to open at and it doesn't make the order
Check in preferences > general > Startup: Do you have "Show my windows and tabs from last time" selected? If so change to "Show my home page" (or blank page).
Note: this may happen when quitting Firefox, and you inadvertently click "Save and Quit" and select "Do not ask next time".
