Closed laptop sleep mode

Is it safe to just close the laptop and put it in sleep mode for moving it around o taking it to work?, some people say is unsafe because the hard drive, as the only moving mechanical part, can get damage because of this movement. I think it`s safe because the hard drive shuts down completely. It is common for me to use the laptop this way, I mean not shuting it down always, I prefer just to closed it, how about you?

My Macbook Pro has never been shut down. Never. And, it has traveled with me, more than twice, all the way across this country (US). I figure it has traveled around 25,000 miles, just since this past March.
It is perfectly safe to simply sleep your Macbook Pro.

Yup, with printer sharing, the PC cannot be asleep if the printer is attached to the PC via USB.
Since this is a network (wireless) printer, why not attach the printer to your wireles network direclty? Am I understanding the setup correctly?

ThinkPad Yoga 15 won't charge while closed/in sleep mode

Hello, i recently purchased a thinkpad yoga 15 laptop with i7, 8gb ram, geforce gpu, 256gb SSD, Windows 8.1 Pro. My question is: how can I make it charge while in sleep mode? also, downloads stop in sleep mode (ie Steam) This is very inconvenient as the laptop will apparently only charge while totally on and open. Naturally, I don't want to leave my laptop on and open to anyone's use in my room, I want to keep it locked via sleep mode. I want it to be charged when I get back. To sum up, I want to a) charge laptop while it's in sleep mode, and b) don't stop downloads while in sleep mode. Thank you this is my first post on lenovo forums :]

How can I set up my Lenovo G50 laptop so that I login in the morning, leave the laptop on during the day in a sleep mode so that when I return to it at various times during the day, press any key to wake it up without the need to enter my password again.

My ipod 5 laged just now 1st the wifi closed on sleep mode then.i cant touch any thing so i pressed the sleep mode and open again and i phoned that i have 5 iMessages and my ipod bluged into charge but its not then my touch was back and i can do everythin

i have the same problem, I close the lid to make my macbook go to sleep, but when i open it up even though i hear the sounds it makes when it wakes up, the screen stays black, so i myself have to reboot the system loosing everything i was working in order to log back into the system.
But i have a problem, i dont have apple care! so i cant call apple for support, but i do know that these machines have a one year warranty, so would this problem fall under that category?

Deactivate the sleep mode when closing the laptop cover

I was wondering if there's any way to deactive the sleep mode when I close the cover of my laptop.
In Windows, we can do that.
So, Is There any Way to close the cover and open it up without going in sleep mode? Because in sleep mode, it deactivates internet.

My laptop wont wake up from sleep mode

Hello, I hope you can help me!
I have this problem: When I set my laptop to sleep mode or I close my laptop (I have set "sleep" asi action after closing the laptop) it just wont wake up... I open in - nothing, I try to push the button for starting - I can hear it booting, but after few seconds the laptop is quiet again and nothing happens.
All I can to do is trying to turn it on over and over again and after 10 tries it finally starts. Sometimes helps plugging or unplugging the charger.
I don't have this problem with hybernation mode.
I own ThinkPad E535.
I hope it's Windows 7 problem or something with drivers. Or do you think it's a problem with BIOS? I hope not.

Hit me over the head enough times with a fact and it will sink in.
In the front right corner where your right wrist sets when typing there is a light in the dot of the i in Thinkpad. When the computer is asleep, what is that light doing? When you try waking up the computer and the screen is black, is the light doing anything?

Connect MBP to external monitor without putting it to sleep mode closed

I want to connect my MBP mid 2010 to a external monitor. (Already done that)
My problem is:
I`m now using my MBP on my external monitor. But, the laptop is open beside the monitor (which is kinda annoying for me) . every time I close the MBP, the laptop automatically puts to sleep, which is normal right? what I want is, using my macbook on external monitor while the macbook is closed and not in sleep mode. HT204074 Watching a TV series, purchasing them one Ep at a time. Anyway after watching Ep3 I purchased Ep 4 but got a call so my laptop i went into sleep mode. Just came back n now it says that 90 days

What is this? It's the most frustrating thing, and I just wnt to scream 'I DIDN'T'. 23 days ago I did because I was unaware of the new 90 day rule.
But this time, i didn't do anything. I was watching a TV series, and I was purchasing the episodes one at a time (in hopes that this would encourage me to stop and go to sleep after i finished the next one). Anyway I had just finished watching episode 3 and purchased 4 and it had begun to download, when I left my laptop to go get something to eat came back n it had obviously gone into sleep mode. so had to continue the download BUT when I try to continue the download the 'message' pops up. Frist tip, after installing software updates (I assure your machine started off with 10.4.2 and when you first used it, you were promted to update to 10.4.4.), go into the utlities folder (under applications) open disk utlitity and verifity and repaire disk permissions, this will greatly boost preformace and may fix your problem. (In fact do this once a week) Go ahead and run the Techtool (Applecare hardware test CD) and check for any problems. If these come up with nothing, I'd call Applecare and tell them what is happening. Applecare will cover you at any Apple dealer and some Apple resellers as well. Going elsewhere will kill your warrenty BTW.

I tried your solution, but it did not work with my laptop. After I restart the laptop, the language does not change and I cannot type the password in English language. Do you have any other suggestion?

Does moving your MB around in sleep mode (lid closed) ruin your harddrive?

ive heard from some people that their harddrive has been screwed over after doing this, is it true?

The one thing that definitely is important as far as moving your laptop in the sleep mode, is to wait until your sleep light begins to dim & brighten prior to moving it.
I have carried my PowerBooks back and forth across country several times in the sleep mode without a problem.

Laptop won't wake up from sleep mode

I have a Satellite L745-s2410 and usually whenever i close the lid to my laptop it goes into sleep mode and the orange light comes on and whenever I open it up again it would come back on (either automatically or just by moving the mouse or pressing the power button). However as of last week I noticed that when it goes into sleep mode it only comes back once. If i put the laptop to sleep again it will not come back and I am forced to either take out the battery or hold down the power button to turn it off. If you can please help me that would be great

Did this just start?
Try this. Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections. Then test it again.

Laptops not reporting when coming out of sleep mode

Currently I have set my schedule so that Laptops inventory on a weekly basis. Our users will routinely place their laptops in sleep mode at the end of the day instead of turning them off due to the long log-in times in the mornings. When the user reconnects in the morning their network connections are restored and they continue on as normal. The problem is ZAM thinks that the device is NOT connected to the network and is unable to inventory it according to its schedule. Once the user does a complete reboot then ZAM is fine until the next time the device is placed in sleep mode.
I believe the problem is due to ZAM holding onto the old IP address and not seeing the device when it connects through the newly acquired IP address.
Is there something to that can be changed in the manager that I have not found yet? Any suggestions?

Laptop shuts down after sleep mode, help please!

When I close the lid or press the sleep mode button, my laptop goes into sleep mode and everything is ok. However, when I open the lid or press the power button to awake it... after a few seconds, my laptop shuts down! I just formatted my laptop to the factory settings hoping to fix the issue, but it persists. Please help!

When any problem persists after recovering to factory settings, it's often indicative of a hardware problem.
