Closed Padlock Symbol Next to the iPod Volume Info in iTunes

At the bottom of the iTunes screen I now show a padlock symbol and can't unlock it (It may have been there in the past and I just didn't notice it?).
The iPod Video and the iPod Color operate fine within iTunes, but I am not able to install OS 10.4.3 on either iPod (from the OS CD) and I can't use either one as a startup volume.

IM NOT SURE ABOUT MAC, But generally that lock means that u have the ipod set to autmatically update, if you go to settings and click "maually update songs" not recommended unless u want to but the lock will disappear and youll be able to manipulate the songs on ur ipod..
someone correct me if im wrong if not hit thet little plus sign above (its like a reward...lol...
