Closed Project Window Stays Open

I have one project out of three where this is a problem.  I can end the project but the window does not close.
I am using Captivate 4 and I have gone to preferences and changed end of project to be Close Project. Even at that, the last slide wants to keep going. I want it to freeze so it can be read. I put a button on it to stop the slide and then had to put a dummy slide at the back to close the project once the viewer hits the Close button.
On the other projects, I can just let the slide fade out. Why does the window stay open? Is there a solution? I could not find this listed in the forum but was sure this was an issue in versions 2 and 3 as well.
Thanks.
Jeffrey Riley

Do you mean like this?
Indeed, that is the new behaviour. You have to make a selection, before closing the window.
The new GarageBand does not quit, when closing the main application window. This way you faster switch between projects. You do not have to quit and relaunch.
If you want GarageBand to quit, use the quit command ⌘Q instead of closing the main window.

  • Why does the print cue window stay open even after job is done?

In Tiger, and every other version of OSX I have any recollection of using, the printer window opens to display what's in the cue when you select to print something. Once printing is done, this cue closes. Since installing Leopard, everytime we print from our iMac, MacBook or MBP, the print cue window stays open indefinitely after the job is done, requiring a manual closing of the window. I can't for the life of me fathom what benefit this brings or who would want this. Is this part of Leopard or a problem with our install? Something I can turn off?

If you control-click (or right click) on the open printer queue in the Dock you can choose to have it auto close once the spool file is sent.
As to why this is necessary in Leopard, well I haven't seen a good enough answer to date...

  • Command window stays opened at the end of script execution

    Hello everyone,
Since I install Windows 2012 R2 systems, the command window opened when I execute my batch scripts often stay opened even if the script has ended.
As an example if I double-click a batch file, if the last line of the script is "echo here", it displays "here" and the window is not closed by Windows (it's not active of course, it just stays opened).
I found an easy way to trigger the (apparently) same problem. Do like this:
    - right click the Windows button at the bottom left. Select "Command prompt"
    - in the command window type "mstsc"
    - close mstsc clicking on the close button
    - type "exit" in the command window (or click the close button)
Now the command prompt is "frozen". I cannot type any command in it and I have to click the close button a second time to close it.
Anyone has an idea what is causing this?
    Thanks

    Hi Anna,
Sorry. I didn't receive any update notification email :-/
I tried using "start" as you suggested by you and the article you gave. No change at all.
To explain better I did a video you can see here : http://pferrucci.perso.sfr.fr/Issue/  (unfortunately I couldn't do it better).
    It shows :
    - I open a command prompt as Administrator (just to be sure, but it's the same as a non-admin user)
    - I run taskmgr and I close it when it opens
    - at this point, I type "exit" to close the console window. NOTE: at this moment you can see the window title changes from "Administrator : command prompt" to "command prompt". Maybe it is of interest.
    - from now on, I can't type anything at the prompt. It is just disabled.
    - I click on the close button once (see below)
    - I open a second command prompt as Administrator. I run taskmgr and I close it.
    - at this point, I click the close button once to close the console window. The button reacts but the window stays opened. At this point I could type some text at the prompt, the prompt would not react. It is just disabled.
    - I click on the close button a second time.  The Window goes away.

  • Start up window staying open

When i start up the BI publisher- the dos windows stays open now? Is this normal? When i shut it down it closes by itself.

that should have nothing to do with BI Publisher.
The application server seem to be started with java and not javaw.
Java allows you to see the console window on the sever which helps
    identify issues.
It is not really a dos box - it is a command prompt.

  • Mail windows stay open when offline

    Hi everyone,
    I'm running 10.6.1 with mail 4.1 (1076).
I do a lot of e-mail while commuting and since I upgraded to Snow my messages typed and send offline just stay open; the close button doesn't respond. Even if I delete the message the window stays there. If I close the mail.app and reopen it everything is clean again.
Not a big deal but just annoying.
    Any clue ?
    Thanks

Actually, the message window stays also open when I'm connected... trying to close a newly created message is not possible, sending it is ok, if I save the message (cmd-s) it appears in the drafts, if I double click on the draft list a new window will open (so I have two windows of the same message), If I delete the message from the draft list it will disappear from the list but the window(s) will stay and are still editable.

  • Canon Printing - Window stays open

This is a nit-picking question but bothersome none the less. Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, when I print something the printer window opens while printing then STAYS open and I would have to manually close the window. In Tiger it used to close automatically when the print job was complete. I have all the latest software and drivers. Is there a quick fix for this?
    Thanks

There are several threads on this here. This is a new feature in Leopard, and you can set it to close by using the Auto Quit menu item in the printer's dock menu. Some have had to delete and re-add the printer for the Auto Quit to stick.
    Hope this helps.

  • Chat window stays open even after i log off

When ever i log off with a chat window open...it stays open when i log back on. Is it possible to not do that, Leopard never did that???

    Hi Carolyn and Lud@,
I must admit I would have suggested that as well.
If the iChat 4 setting for Remembering Chats had been set there is nothing in iChat 5 to reset it.
In Theory clearing the window and Quitting iChat should delete the item from the .plist
Deleting the said .plist and restarting iChat would have caused iChat to recreate the .plist from Defaults and the Remember Chats Across Launch item would not be there.
What we could do with knowing now is, does the Window have any info at the top as to who and/or what room the chat is associated with ?
It may pay to check the File Menu of iChat to Check if this "Chat" that keeps popping up is in the Recents lists.

  • Extra Firefox transparent window stays open in WIndows 7

    Hello,
I am using Firefox 35.0.1 and just today something strange has started to happen.
In my task bar when I open Firefox as I am sure you know, an icon appears in the lower left. As you also probably know when you open more than one window you can see a window behind the first icon indicating another window is open.
Each time I open Firefox, an extra window opens that I did not open so if I opened 2 windows the icon in the task bar has 2 pages behind it, if I open one window, there is a page behind the icon. When I mouse-over that extra icon in the task bar the thumbnail image that shows is of the upper left hand corner of a browser window but you only see 250 pixels to the right and maybe 200 pixels down, so you see File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help and a bit of grey and down you see the url window and a small part of my homepage which is google. Well actually what you see is just white and I assume it is that part of a google homepage but who knows...Anyway, if I move my mouse over that thumbnail image what appears on the screen is an 800 by 600 transparent box...
Also, if you click on the thumbnail to call this window to open, the shadow box goes away and there is no window anywhere to be found. And, the window will not go away unless I close all Mozilla windows, I cannot close this window if I click the red 'X' in the thumbnail.
I have tried to take a screen shot to show you and something even stranger occurs...When I take a screen shot there is no shadow but an image of the other browser window that I did open, so whatever page I am on in the other window appears in the transparent box. Sometimes you see the whole window but sometimes the picture catches a browser window in the process of opening to full size, please see pictures one and two.
Explaining this has been difficult, I wish the screenshots actually showed you what i see, I hope I have not driven you crazy with all the details..I have tried to upload my pics which are gif images that are 87k and 38k but the upload doesn't work, the little circle just keeps going around and around and around so I can't get the darn images up here...Very frustrating.
If anyone out there can assist I would appreciate it. Should I remove Mozilla from my machine and reinstall? If so, is there some special uninstall steps I should do to make sure I get all files? Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jen

  • How do I hide ALL windows using apple H?  The final window stays open.

When I press apple-H it hides the windows except the last one.  To hide that one I have to click on the desktop, then back to the window, then press apple H again to hide it.
Is this an intentional function of Mac's operating system?  Seems awkward, and it's certainly annoying as I have to access the desktop many times during my work day.  I realize I can press F11 and get the desktop, but that merely pushes windows to the side and when I open something new they come back on screen and interrupt my workflow.
I would like to be able to press apple-H multiple times (or a different shortcut) until I reach a clean and clear desktop.  So if I have 3 applications open, I want to press apple-H 3 times and to reach the desktop.  When I open a folder, I don't want the windows that were pushed aside to slide on screen blocking my workflow.

    Why not use multiple desktops?
I have 5 desktops being used. Desktop 1 is my "working" desktop where I open/close apps/windows a lot. While I keep Calendar on desktop 2, full screen. Mail on 3 at full screen, iTunes on 4 full screen and Stickies, Reminders and Notes on desktop 5.
As I typed this, I tested it out. I opened Messages along with Safari (obviously) on my desktop 1. I then pressed Command H twice. Both Messages and Safari disappeared leaving me with a clean desktop. But it left all my other desktops alone and left each of the apps/windows opened on their desktops. I think this would be a great solution for you as you can leave apps/windows opened on other desktops with out having to disrupt your work flow on your main desktop.
You can also assign an app to open just on one particular desktop. As with me, I have all of those apps to open at start up. But on that desktop that it's assigned to. Example I opened Calendar on desktop 2. Then I right clicked the App in the Dock, scrolled to Options then selected "Assign to This Desktop". And so on with the remaining desktops and apps.
To move between desktops, since you have a Trackpad, just swipe back and forth with four fingers. Or if you are on desktop 1 and want to get to find quickly. You can either click on the app that is assigned to desktop 5, in my case Notes, Stickies or Reminders. Or you can 4-finger swipe up then select desktop 5.

  • How do I get a popup window to stay open with a validation failure?

    Environment:
    APEX 3.1.1.00.09 on AIX 5.3
Oracle 10.2.0.2 EE on AIX 5.3
    Sample app on apex.oracle.com:
    Workspace: galway
    User: gwicke
    Pass: gwicke
    Steps:
    1- run Page 3
    2- select J & B Marketing from drop down
3- select only contract from drop down
4- click on Edit Existing Contract
5- click on Add New Builder
6- Enter the same builder from calling page: Builder Name: Alvarez Construction City: Baton Rouge State: LA
    7- click Add Builder
The original version of this page would add the new builder to the database, pass the information back to the calling page and close the popup window. Cool.
I have added a validation on the popup page (Page 4) to check for an existing builder with the same name and city.
What I'd like to have happen is the popup window stay open so the user can see the error message with the instructions for them to click on the CANCEL button and then select the builder from the drop down list. When they click the CANCEL button I need to have the window close.
What is happening is the window is closing as soon as the Add Builder button is clicked.
This is because there is a region called 'scripts' that contains javascript to submit the page and close the window and the condition on the region is only that the Builder Name is not null. So, the good news is that I understand why the window is closing but I'm not sure the best way to keep it open when the error condition happens.
Thanks very much for your help. I'm sure you recall everything about this app you helped me with many months ago. NOT!! :-)
    -gary

Gary, I think I've got it working the way you want.
    1. I added a conditional branch to page 4 which fires on the not exists builder condition condition.
    2. I disabled the reset page process. With that running, the conditional branch to page 4 woul always fire because the builder name and city were always cleared by the time the branch executed.
    3. I noticed that the new builder did not show up in your select list until I refreshed page 2. I haven't had a chance to look at that. Maybe a branch back to page 2 from page 4 after successfully loading a new builder will take care of that.

Just installed Yosemite okay.  But Safari window stays open, cannot close to get back to my desktop. No "red button" on the screen.

You might have full screen enabled. Try File menu: Quit or key commands: Command + Q. Or, just hit the Escape key (esc).

  • Right Click PDF print the file prints & closes Adobe stays open

This issue has been brought up in the past however there does not appear to be an adequate solution.
It appears it was introduced as far back as version 8, I am basing from what I read in posting.
When you right click a PDF to print Adobe opens the file prints the file closes however the Adobe Reader window stays open.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2604089#2604089
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1780621#1780621
The right click print is not the only instance of this behavior.
When other programs are useed to call Adobe Reader to produce & print the PDF the Adobe Reader remains open.
It seems like a small thing but it is a large annoyance and I can't think of why it would be desired by anyone.
    Adobe, please fix this.

If you have a postscript printer or rip which has the ability to create hot folders to link to the printer queues you could simply drag-n-drop and PDL (page description language) file like PDF, PS, EPS to that hot folder to initiate printing. Again, very dependent on your printer/rip device.

  • Closing DOS window

I have a bat that looks like this everything works
    start javaw -jar Runner.jar
but is there anyway to make the dos window close...
i thought javaw was supposed to run without the dos window...
or is my dos window a result of -jar
    thanks for anyhelp
    Scott

I did some testin on my win2000 machine, and running a batfile with the line
    start C:\jdk1.3.1_01\bin\javaw.exe -jar jarfile.jar
gives just a quick flash of a dos window before it closes again, and my java application starts. The same works for jsdk1.4.1_01. The only way I have found to not have the dos window close automatically is to remove the "start" part of the command, in which case the window stays open as long as the application runs and then terminates. So I don't really know what causes your problem.
When you start a bat file Windows open a dos window. When to close that again is basically up to Windows, not the programs running in it. So I think it's question of telling Windows to behave, and not the javaw command as such. I seem to remember that the properties dialog for shortcuts to dos commands in winXP have a checkbox for something like "leave dos window open", but I'm not sure.
What does your dos window look like? - Does it "hang" on the javaw command, or do you get a new prompt you can write to?
