Closing a file

When I save a file that I have been working on I get 'Could not save (file name) because the file is already in use or was left open. How do I not get this message?

Go to File>save as, and rename the file, e.g. prayer_2

    How to fix file when it says, "Cannot open file " ". Adobe Indesign does not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or file may be open in another application." It worked one second, I saved and closed the file, then tried to reopen and now it won't work. I am using Adobe InDesign CS5. It is the only version on my comp. I have tried opening on another comp & copying the file – same error comes up. PLEASE HELP

    First check the version of the document with Jongware's script "Identify.jsx" (ExtendScript/JavaScript).
    You can find it here:
    [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File
    If it is CS 5.5 or above, you need someone to open it in the version the script says and export an IDML representation from that. Another way would be to install a 30days version of CS6 or above (CC) and do it yourself.
    In regards of the script showing a result for InDesign files higher than CS6:
    CS7 = CC v9
    CS8 = CC v10 = CC-2014 or CC2014.1

    Hi Bryan ,
    It happens when you save it as an Adobe PDF or a normal PDF?
    Happens with all the files or any specific one?
    What exact version of Acrobat are you using?
    Try updating it to the latest one if it is an older one.
    You may also want to uninstall and re install it to check.
    Let us know how it goes.

  • Multiple Closed Captioning files?

    Is it possible to assign multiple CC files to one video? Or, is there a workaround that someone can share? Thanks.

    Closed captioning is associated with one track at a time on a DVD.
    There can only be one, SCC file that is associated to each video track.
    Video tracks can only have one closed caption file associated per video track.

  • DSP CRASHES ON BUILD WITH CLOSED CAPTION FILE

    I've done a search but haven't found a problem similar to mine yet.
    I'm using DSP 2.05 and trying to author a DVD with closed captioning. Every time I go to Build/Format, whether it's to a DVD-R or a Disc image DSP shuts down with no error messages at all.
    I can successfully Build/Format the same project to a DVD-R or Disc image if I leave out the closed captioning file(.SCC).
    Any ideas what the problem might be?
    Please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks for any suggestion!

    Thanks for the suggestion!
    I trashed all the parsing files and anything that wasn't vital but haven't tried the Preferences yet. I'll try it and see what happens.

  • Open closed XML files - IPCC

    Hi All
    We are looking to implement basic IVR into our schools using our IPCC Express Prem.
    We would like to provide school admin staff with the ability to manage their own open/closed xml files and were thinking of writing an
    application that delivers username, password and date fields that would then update their relevant files on IPCC.
    Can anyone suggest possible problems,flaws,advice to help our adventure.
    Thanks
    Rich

    Hi Arun,
    These files are encrypted. If your organisation is a partner with Nakisa you can obtain the decrypter from them.
    Portal SSO works without any configuration directly in the XML files. If you are getting an error stating that the Portal ticket cannot be interpreted then your configuration is not correct. In your URL iView you need to ensure the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) is used for the application URL. In the Administrator Console you need to ensure you enter the system details (Host, Sys Nr and Client) for the backend system which holds your SSO ticket for that Portal. You need to use FQDN here too.
    There is additional security configuration that can be done in the XML files but SSO will still work with just the Administrator Console configuration.
    I hope that helps!

  • Digital closed caption file encoder

    I have traditionally left CC service in the hands of the digital media distributor,
    but recently I have a couple of clients asking about bringing it in house.
    This thread clearly explains CC export capability from CS5.5 is via print to tape,
    not file export.
    Is there an industry standard digital closed caption file encoder?
    Does anyone have any experience with using PixelTools to
    insert closed captioning into an MPEG stream for broadcast?

    Out of the box it is not available.   From html5 the track element can be used to display closed captions, subtitles etc....
    Have you tried overlay [1] and modify video.jsp to include the track element.

  • SQLException: Io exception: socket closed: Bad file number;

    Hi,
    My server application connects oracle 8i using thin driver.
    My code opens a connection and create a statement object:
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url, username, password);
    connection.setAutoCommit(false);
    Statement statement = connection.createStatement();
    After a few hours it runs just fine I get the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: socket closed: Bad file number;
    The code line that couses this exception is:
    statement.executeQuery("my SQL query");
    after this there are more errors:
    ;java.sql.SQLException: Protocol violation;
    (in code line: connection.execCommit())
    and than a repeated exception of :
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe;
    Does anyone knows a solution? (is the problem in my code or in the oracle account?)
    Thank!!!

    Which package you are using? if you don't have
    classes12.zip, try again by including that package in
    the classpath. If you are already using classes12.zip
    then try by including nls_charset12.zip in the
    classpath.
    You can get these packages in Oracle (otn) website.
    SudhaThanks!
    I had classes12.zip in my classpath, but my classpath also had: classes111.zip
    so i removed classes111.zip from the classpath and as far as now,
    the problem did not occur again!
    (i also added nls_charset12.zip just to be sure)

  • Closing all files on the cloud

    Hi we need help closing Adobe files on the cloud and it's locked and we don't know how we did it, or how to undo
    Please help the way it looks same if all file on our company maybe online for everyone to access.
    if you can help or do we just uninstall adobe and the cloud ( for a fast fix )
    Thank you look forward to hearing from soon
    Richard

    I am not familiar with this problem, but so that you might get good advice I suggest you give more detail.
    You say "it's locked". What is locked? How do you know it is locked? What happens when you try to use it?
    When you say "uninstall Adobe and the cloud" what do you mean by "Adobe" and "the cloud" in this case? What specific Adobe software are you using?

  • Difference in UNDO behavior while closing the file

    Kindly follow these steps. Please explain whether it is the expected behavior.
    1) Select a new VI and drop any function in the BD and UNDO the operation. Close the file, LabVIEW prompts "Save changes before closing?"
    2) Select a new VI and drop a vi using "Select VI" and UNDO the operation. Close the file, LabVIEW will close without any changes notification.

    Dennis Knutson wrote:
    If you make 1 change and then undo that single change, wouldn't you expect that 0 changes have been made (1-1=0)? I see nothing abnormal about this behavior.
    Thanks for the response Dennis sir, the above point is OK for case 2. But in case 1 when in a new VI , i placed a for loop and UNDO that and when i closed the file, it asks for saving changes. ????

  • Ini_ReadFromFile - open and closing of file

    When I use the function 'Ini_ReadFromFile()' does it handle the "open" of the file and getting of the file handle, read the contents into memory and then "close" the file and releasing of the file handle?  I believe it does but it is not clear and I do not see it stated in the documentation.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You are correct that this is not mentioned in the documentation - you can use the link 'Submit feedback on this topic' at the bottom of the respective help page in the helpfile of CVI to notify NI about this omission.
    If you look at the two sample projects with respect to ini files you will see that indeed there is no explicit open or close command, so reading or writing an ini file works without explicitly opening or closing the file.

  • Why prompted to save when closing unchanged file?

    I open a file because all I want to do is print it. I send it to the printer making no changes. When I try to close the window, I get the "Do you want to save the changes you made" dialog. It's not that big a deal to just hit "return" to choose the default "Save" but it's an extra step and, at times, can be a little annoying.
    As no changes were made, why does the 'puter think there were changes made?
    Any way to get around this?

    When you open a .doc file (or .rtf or .txt or AppleWorks, etc.) in Pages you are not actually opening that file, but creating a new Pages file of the content. This leaves the original file intact. Until you save it as a Pages file (with the .pages extension) you will get the unsaved warning when closing the file or application.

  • Open Other Project not closing original file

    Hello All,
    I have a total of 55 exe files that are all accessed through
    one captivate file called "Interface". I am experiencing some
    inconsistent errors with the "Open other project" feature when
    testing this on a computer other than my own. Basically, a user
    will be in the interface file and click on a course they would like
    to take. Let's say for example, they choose to take an interviewing
    course. When they click Interviewing, the interface disappears and
    they see the desktop or sometimes a white screen while Interview is
    being opened. Sometimes, the course never shows up so I use my
    CTL+Alt+Delete/Task Manager to view what has happened and I am
    finding that Interface and Interview are both open and are
    minimized on my toolbar. If the user doesn't use CTL+ALT Delete,
    they would never even know their course opened because for some
    reason they can only see a white screen. Ideally, I would like the
    Interface file to close down as soon as the user clicks on another
    course. I have it set to "Open Other Project" and selected Current
    but still it is keeping the Interface open (sometimes). Again, the
    errors are pretty inconsistent. One day it works perfectly and the
    next day I am getting what I described above. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Kim

    Hi Kim
    It's common that the EXE format doesn't close when opening
    another project. So here's something you may wish to try. Button
    and Click Box objects normally allow the slide to continue playing
    when clicked by the user. Assuming all of them are identically
    timed for the pause, you might simply allow a click on any of them
    to allow the project to continue playing. Then configure the end
    action to be that of closing the project.
    My thought here is that perhaps a click on the object (Click
    Box or Button) will cause the project to continue briefly, then
    terminate. This should close it down. Then at the end of the
    projects you linked to, have their end action to be to open the
    menu back up. Then have them close down.
    Hopefully that makes a bit of sense.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Opening and Closing Output Files

    I have a simple question. After opening a file for output by doing:
    PrintStream out =
    new PrintStream(
    new BufferedOutputStream(
    new FileOutputStream(
    ("filename")));
    and then closing by:
    out.close();
    How do I go open it back up again later? What I'm looking for is something along the lines of out.open(); which is what I would expect the command to be but it's not. I have several files for output so I don't want to keep them open throughout the program which is how I have it right now. Thanks for any help!

    When PrintStream.close() is called, it flushes itself and calls the underlying stream's close method - here a BufferedOutputStream. When BufferedOutputStream.close() is called it also flushes itself and calls the underlying stream's close method - here FileOutputStream.
    The API doccumentation for FileOutputStream.close() says:
    "Closes this file output stream and releases any system resources
    associated with this stream. This file output stream may no longer be used for writing bytes."
    So thats it.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Binil

  • Indd experts: Is it possible to recover a closed recovered file?

    Hi,
    My intelligence brought me to this hair-pulling moment: I realized that I closed the 16 pages word-document AND the indesign document where I copied the same text and made a design.
    This is a lot of text that I think is lost forever. To be sure: I thought I ask here anyway. Is it possible to recover this?
    There are lots of files in the AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en_US\Caches\InDesign Recovery folder. Can these InDesign Recovery files be opened somehow?
    Here some interesting ones:
    - InDesign Saved Data (11.588 KB)
    - DBSharingXXXXXXXXX (many files - some "modified" on the day when I worked on the lost file)
    This must have already happened days ago. Wanted to open that document but realized it was gone in both programs.
    Thanks a lot for any imput - I thought I try anyway even though I think that chances to recover this are 1 in a million.
    TS.

    I copied it over from Microsoft Word - yes, they should have temp files too. It's activiated, but in the folder where the temp files should be there are only files from 1-2 years ago. So I figured that word deletes it after I close the doc. Tried to run file recovery, but had no luck to find anything.
    It's incredible that I managed to close it on BOTH programs. 16 A4 pages. Two full days of work, haha.
