Closing a server application

In my Java class, I am running an external appln through Runtime.getRuntime().
After the application has been used, I want to close the window running that external appln. How to do this?

Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(.....);
//do stuff
p.destroy();

  • Problem using the File Dialog Box in a Client/Server application

    I am developping a client-server application using Labview 5.1 . The application on the server acquires data from some instruments and saves it on file, while the application on the clients displayes such acquired data. For doing this I call some routines on the server via the "Open Application vi" (remote connection). All goes well except when I open on the server the "File Dialog Box vi" : in this case the application on the clients is blocked (is blocked the execution of the called vi on the server). Only when
    the File Dialog Box on the server is closed, the execution of the called vi on the server starts again.
    I need to use the File Dialog Box on the server, but I don' t want to stop at the same time
    the clients !!
    I need help for resolving such problem.
    Many thanks in advance !!!

    Are you sure? I think, that File Dialog, called by LabVIEW File Dialog from Advanced File Functions Palette doesn't blocking any cycles in subVI, which running in UI Thread. Look in my old example (that was prepared for other topic, but may be good for this topic too).

  • Need design solution : Closed bid Auction application

    I am working on an online auction[closed-bid] web application.
    I have to develop two modules, an administration module and actual auction module.
    The Administration module should be able to manage the auction items.
    The auction module runs the auction and takes the bid from the bidders for the auction items.
    Administration domain:
         AuctionItem --> Category --> Specification Group --> Specifications
    95'Honda --> Car --> General --> Make: Nissan
         All domain objects in the administration module are manageable units.
    Auction domain:
         Bidder --> AuctionItem --> Category --> SpecificationGroup --> Specifications
    Tom --> 95' Honda --> Car --> General --> Make: Nissan
    Administration module will run on the intranet app server and Auction module will be on the internet app server.
    How would I design this application?
    Do I need to make two war files for each module and deploy them on the respective server?
    Appreciate your feedbacks and suggestions.
    Please let me know if more clarifications needed.
    Thanks,
    Mohideen.

    I feel it is better to seperate the Admin from the application, ie two seperate war file on two seperate app server, this makes your application little more secure. provided your client is ready to invest in another server for the admin

  • Client server application using CORBA

    Hi
    I have a basic client server application running using CORBA/idl where the client starts up and the server says hello back to the client. I have figured out the basics but would like some help with these small problems.
    When I start the client, the server says hello. Thats OK. Now I want the client to start a simple java app (called c:\test.java - it works) that I created before. How?
    The next bit is when I close down the app "test" that I start, I want the server to realise that its closing and simply say goodbye on the client. How?
    If anybody can help me, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks for your time,
    Shaun

    hi,
    to my knowledge, you will have to define a method in idl file and in your client, which server invocates(saying good bye etc) before shutting down..

  • HT5678 What the important thing we need before we can setup The Mountain Lion Server application

    I want to set up mountain lion server application on my mac osx 10.83 , may i have some suggestion before i set up it to my macBook .

    I'd ask what requirements you're looking to fulfill by using OS X Server on a MacBook system, as that's not a typical hardware configuration for a server.
    OS X Server and most other server operating systems expect static IP addresses and full-time availability, where a MacBook tends to be mobile and to thus have a variety of dynamic DHCP IP addresses and networks, and MacBook systems also tend to be closed and hibernating at random times.
    It's certainly possible to use this hardware as a server (and it can be useful when you're learning how to manage a server and have a "scratch" MacBook available), but the hardware is not necessarily a good fit.
    As you add services, you'll want to have DNS services established and verified, and — on a typical NAT'd local area network with no other LAN-local DNS services — that involves configuring DNS services on OS X Server itself.  DNS is a prerequisite for various other OS X Server services.
    But yes, do have a disk backup, either Time Machine, or as an external disk backup, or however you preserve your data.  Skimming the OS X Server manuals can help save some time figuring out the platform, too.

  • Socket closing before server can readObject()

    I am trying to create a multi-threaded client server application that transmits objects. At the moment, I am having a hard time getting the sockets to coincide.
    I start my server and wait for a connection:
    ServerSocket ss = new ServerSocket(port_num);
    Socket s = ss.accept();Then I create a new socket in the client to connect to the server:
    Socket cs = new Socket("localhost", 8888);When the server class gets the connection, it creates a thread with the socket:
    new DrawThread(s);The thread constructor creates an Input stream:
    ois = new ObjectInputStream(sock.getInputStream());After the client creates the connection, it creates and ObjectOutputStream and writes my object:
    oos = new ObjectOutputStream(cs.getOutputStream());
    oos.writeObject(objects.get(0).getShape());Meanwhile in the run() method of the thread, we try to read it:
    ois.readObject();However at this point I get an IOException because the client function was done and had exited so the socket was closed.
    Any Idea what I can do to combat this problem? Full code for my client function, server and thread classes are below.
    Client function:
       public void serverSave(){
            Date d = new Date();
            try{
            //initialize class network and IO vars

    Shannon

    You have one problem with your DrawServer class:               new DrawThread(s); // this starts a thread that uses the socket
                   System.out.println("end listening");
                   s.close(); // this will close the socket while it is used in the DrawThread thread.Instead close the socket in the finally block of the DrawThread run() method (no need to close the ObjectOutputStream in that block).
    Also since you are passing a variable number of objects between the client and the server
    you should create a custom made protocol for both your ends to always be in sync with each other.
    For instance the client could send first the number of objects to be sent,
    then loop for this exact number and send the objects,
    then upon receiving the server response close its socket.
    The server could read for the number of objects to read,
    then loop for the exact number and read the objects,
    then send a response and close its socket.

  • Opening and closing 3rd party applications ??

    Does opening and closing 3rd party applications with the click of the home button actually close the application, or, does it continue running in the back ground ?
    I noticed most of the 3rd party application don't have a close/exit option, and wonder if opening and closing several applications with the home button can cause the many crashes I have read from fellow iPhone owners ?

    Clicking the Home button may close the application depending on the application itself. Some applications that use the network may close when going to the Home screen. To force quit any application, hold the Home button down for about 6 seconds until the Home screen comes up.

  • Class Not Found in Server Application

    I have set up a basic server application. It contains three files namely
    Arith.java (implements the Remote interface)
    ArithImpl.java (implements Arith.java the server) and

    Hello All, can anybody help?
    The Problem
    We are running SharePoint 2013 and document sets that have an excel file and a PowerPoint presentation both in the document set folder  and we have mapped this to a unc path
    \\SP.companyname.com\@SSL\DavWWWRoot\Documents
    Once a link(graph) is added from excel 2010 (Ctrl C) then go into PowerPoint 2010 Paste > paste special > paste link (As Microsoft Excel Chart Object) click ok the graph goes into the PowerPoint presentation.
    The graph/Table is added but in Power point 2010. Perfect.
    The problem is when we close excel and try and click on the graph(link) we get the following error “The Server application, source file, or item can’t be found, or returned an unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server

    If we right click then we get
    The Linked file was unavailable and can’t be updated
    Has anybody else experienced this issue?
    We are running SharePoint 2013 and document sets that have the excel file and PowerPoint in and we have mapped this to a unc path

    I think that Office 2010 does not link or cannot link to a url which it see the unc path as?? It works in Office 2013 but we have Office 2010 as standard across the firm also I have tried SP1 and SP2 for Office 2010 but still

    Is anybody else experiencing this issue? is there at least a work around?
    Many thanks in Advance

    Hi,
    Usually this issue is caused by the Protected Mode in Adobe software, since it's not a Microsoft product, the information I can provide is quite limited. I suggest you contact the support of Adobe first, ask if they can provide any suggestion.

  • 11.1.3 - APS Server does not appear within APS Server Application Group

    I successfully migrated from 9.3.1 to 11.1.3 in our DEV environment but their is no entry in the APS Server Application Group within Shared Services. Additionally, I am able to access all forms and run reports but when attempting to provision users in the new environment (comparing user access to Production) I realized that the APS server was not available for provisioning. What can be done to correc this? I am still learning about all of the moving parts so I am not entirely sure how to troubleshoot.
    Thanks.
    Dan

    Hi,
    In version 11 there are no provisioning roles for APS, so you shouldn't have to worry about it.

  • How to diagnose rapid memory growth in Solaris 10 java server application

    Hi,
    We have a production java based server that experienced large memory growth recently and we are looking for help in diagnosing what might be the cause. The memory footprint of this java server application is limited to 120M using the jvm -Xmx switch. The server process size held consistently at around 180M until an event happened that caused the process size to rapidly increase to aprox 3G. We used the java jstat command to check the application heap usage within the jvm was within the specified limits.
    This application can be performs java Runtime exec's to run simple shell scripts from a variety of java threads in the server app.
    We have attempted to search for a cause by analysing the output of the pmap, pfiles, and pstack commands but have been unsuccessfull at this. We have also attempted to run the libumem.so library with the application in the hopes of using mdb to find out where the heap usage is. Unfortunately when we followed the instruction on using limumem the application stopped working due an ELF error.
    The following are what we used for libumem:
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libumem.so
    UMEM_DEBUG=default
    UMEM_LOGGING=transaction
    export LD_PRELOAD UMEM_DEBUG UMEM_LOGGING
    <run the application>
    The error we got is:
    ld.so.1: nohup: fatal: /usr/lib/libumem.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
    We are looking for advice on how to proceed in finding the cause for this growth. In addition to the diag info below we have captured the core file for the application from gcore. The following is the output from pfiles, pmap, pstack, and the showrev command.
    Any help/suggestions appreciated.

    I was finally able to reproduce this problem where I observed that within a 5 minute time span the jvm process grew from around 180M (VS) / 100M (RSS) to 2G (VS) / 1G (RSS). Here are some samplings at the end of my dtrace run showing the largest allocations that were made. We suspect this might be a JVM bug (since jstat reports our heap is well below the 120M limit we specified). Do you have any suggestions on how we might resolve this issue ?
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Can't get remote cluster machine to encode video - getting 'Media Server application unexpectedly quit'

    Hi
    Using Compressor 4 / Apple QuarterMaster admin etc, I have set up a Cluster and it works well to Share > Export Using Compressor Settings.  That took some doing, and I'm happy that it works.
    If I do all my processing in the foreground, or alternatively in the background on my FCPX computer, ie without running or using any cluster in the background, it all goes well.  Quick, error free.
    If I activate the cluster and only put my local machine's compressor services into it, and then send my compressor batch to the cluster, it works perfectly well.  But that defeats the point of having a cluster.  I want the remote machine to do all the work so my local machine doesn't slow down.
    Unfortunately, if I add the remote machine's services into the cluster, the encoding always fails with 'Media Server application unexpectedly quit' in the error log.  I know that the cluster is distributing segments of the file to the remote machine - this can be seen in the Share Monitor, but they never get processed and sit there waiting until I get the error message.
    The remote machine is a modern 4G core 2 duo MacBook. It's never been used for this before.  It has Compressor 4 and the Pro Apps Update installed and both appear to work.  Both machines are running 10.6.8.  The remote machine has Compressor services initialised in Apple QMaster sharing.  The QMasterAdmin sees these services.  They are accessible over Bonjour and appear in the Cluster.  Compressor services from both the local and the remote machine are configured exactly the same way.  The same QT codecs exist on both machines.  I've restarted, shift-restarted, etc etc.
    So I am at a loss here.  The remote machine just won't compress anything it is sent.
    Any ideas?  Must both have FCPX installed?
    Anyone actually got a remote machine in a cluster to work with Compressor 4?  I can't figure it out.
    Chris.

    OK... finally sorted it out.
    It's a bug, as far as I can tell.
    Any job entered directly into Compressor 4 in the normal Compressor manner will be successfully rendered by any working cluster from any machine that can access the cluster.  That's good.  It means that the underlying distributed processing model works well.
    HOWEVER - any job forwarded to a Compressor 4 cluster that includes non-local compressor services (ie compressor services not resident on the same machine), using Share > Export Using Compressor Settings direct from FCPX will fail.
    To confirm this bug, I made a cluster on a remote machine.  It was a dual core machine, so I enabled 2 compressor services on that machine, and that's all the cluster was.  Simple.
    I then manually entered a video file (ProRess 422 720p) into Compressor on the remote machine.  I did this by physically setting up new job using the compressor user interface.  A bog standard ProRes422 720p file rendered fine this way on the remote machine.  As did anything else I gave it.  Good.
    Then on my main machine, I opened Compressor and made a job based on the same file and settings, and sent it to the remote machine's cluster.  No problem at all!  Great!
    So now I know that both Compressor versions, and the clustering model, are working fine.  In fact I can send all sorts of files to the cluster, from any other version of compressor, and have them processed on the remote machine, and get the result back on my desktop later on.  Excellent.
    But, if I try put this same file into a FMPX timeline, and go Share > Export Using Compressor Settings.... and select a cluster with remote (non-local) compressor services, it does not work.  Rendering the video segments on the remote machine times out and fails, every time.  It doesn't matter what file format I use, it just fails.
    So it's a bug.
    From what I can tell, Final Cut Pro X somehow messes up the Share > Export Using Compressor settings where the cluster includes non-local compressor services, causing all jobs to fail.  The same Share > Export Using Compressor Settings will work quite happily if all the services on the cluster are on the same machine as FCPX, or if the job is sent to This Computer in the background.  But any attempt to send files to a cluster using any remote services will fail.
    I hope this saves some people from wasting as much time as I have!
    One workaround is to export to ProRes then put this file manually into Compressor, sending the job to the remote cluster.  This is a two step process with a large intermediary ProRes file.  If one goes Export as QuickTime movie, generating the intermediary file prevents further FCPX work being done.
    To get the intermediary in the background one could use  Share > Export Using Compressor Settings via either This Computer, or to a cluster using only local services.  Then once complete, manually add it to a compressor job.
    So this is a FCPX bug as far as I can tell.
    Chris.

  • "media server application expectly quit" when submitting from final cut pro

    browsing through the list, it seems the problem couldn´t be solved so far.
    doing some systematic testing, the following riddle shows up:
    ... when adding a QT ref movie (or movie) directly to the compressor batch list and submit to the cluster, everything runs fine.
    ... when exporting from final cut pro:
    menu -> export -> using compressor ...
    submitting in compressor using:
    1) Cluster: this computer: everything keeps running fine.
    2) Cluster: MylovelyCluster ....
    the job fails with the message "Failed: HOST [clusternode_name.local] media server application unexpectedly quit"
    since there is 5TB + of data to be compressed, copying files to the render nodes is not an option. all data is on a shared xraid, connected via giganet.
    Any ideas, any hints appreciated !
    regards,
    p.s. Anybody running an XSAN having the same issues?
    G5s, G4s, G3s, macminis, powerbooks   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   xraid

    ... well, the answer is in other topics.
    showstopper explains it patently again and again ...
    thanks from here.
    shortly: when submitting from FCP, every node HAS to have FCP installed and MUST have access to the same relative file path (mounted shared volume). If the volume is not present, the render node will open the reconnect media dialogue and waits for user input.

  • Load balancing on RMI Server Application

    Hi there, I'd like to know more detail about load balancing on RMI server application, been digging the web for some time, but couldn't find much information, does anyone know any website or has the knowledge of load balancing on RMI to share? Sort like its design and implementation.
    Thanks,
    Jax

    I want performance and fault-tolerance,
    In that case, is it necessary to have a main
    rmi server to allow client to access and pick one of
    the rmi servers for the client?Well, if you have one main RMI server, you have a single point of failure again.. Why can't your application know about all rmi servers, and randomly choose one? If it's down, pick a different one.. If your applicatoin is an applet, you'll have to sign it.. Do that and put it on 2 redundant web servers. You have performance by splitting the load and you have your fault tolerance by having x identical rmi servers.
    If you're saying what I think, why would you have one main rmi server that picks a different rmi server? That's more work AND your redundancy goes byebye, ie if your main rmi server dies..

  • How to call webservice server application in jsp

    Hi Friends
    I followed this link http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/tutorials/BottomUpAxis2WebService/bu_tutorial.html and run the server and client web service application successfully. How to call the Webservice server application in JSP instead of using client (java main method) java appliaction. Is there any tutorial or code for accessing the webservice server application in jsp.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi
    I feel that JSP is just a view page.Not a feeling, it actually is :)
    So it is not good practise to write the scriplet code in JSP page. Absolutely right.
    Is there any other way to call the webservice server application in my client(JSP) page?
    What is it that you want to do? If despite all you have said, you still wish to call the webservice from a jsp, read my response above.
