Closing an image in PSE8

It is the simple things that trip me up, I am embarrassed to even ask, however....
I have an open image in PSE8 and I want to close it.  I can't figure out how to do that.  Is some "close" button/feature not showing on my panel?

In the Editor click: File > Close

I am using a Photoshop cs2, and I wonder if it is possible to keep the settings of the guidelines when closing an image, with the actual document ? It would be nice to have the guidelines locked down, I find it than when opening the same or another image, the guidelines are not locked, it is annoying to have to lock them down again. and it would actually be nice, to ba able to give specific directions when placing the guidelines. Thanks

Then why are the guides unlocked when I reopen a document that I saved with the guides locked ?
    Thanks.

  • After closing an image in Photoshop CS6, go back to Bridge automatically?

In Photoshop CS5: when you closed an image, you'd automatically go back to Bridge, where you could open the next image.
Now you close an image, and you stay in Photoshop with a blank screen.
You have to go to the dock, and click Bridge.
How can I get the CS5 way back, so I don't have to do two unnecessary steps each time?

In Photoshop CS5: when you closed an image, you'd automatically go back to Bridge, where you could open the next image.
    Are you sure?
Could you be confused by Photoshop’s Window > Application Frame?

  • Download .wav clips with images using PSE8

I've recorded messages into some of the pictures I took at the time I took them.  The camera an Olympus E-PL1 creates a wav file.  How do I get PSE8 to download these wav files into the computer folder along with the pictures pSE8 downloads?  Right now I have to go back and copy the wav files through WIndows and paste into the computer folder that PSE8 created for the image files.
Also, is there a way to "see" and play the wav files through PSE8 once they are in the computer folder?

When you import photos from Camera to your computer, select these videos as well to import through File->Get Photos and Videos->From Camera or Card Reader option. It will also download the audio file. Also, if your .wav files are copied to the computer select File->Get Photos and Videos->From Files and Folders option and browse to the .wav file. Select the file to import and it will be imported into organizer.Organizer can also play these audio files.
If you have already tried this then where exactly you are getting the error?

  • After viewing & closing an image, can delete it, but not its containing folder.

I’m going through a bunch of old files to see what I can git rid of.
When I view and then close an image in Photoshop CS6 I can delete the image file, but not its containing folder, which stays locked, even after closing Photoshop.  Restarting and closing Photoshop again usually enables me to delete the folder — but not always.  Sometimes I have to close everything and log out and back in to be able to delete the folder.  (BTW, Acrobat and Illustrator also share this problem.)
When you have, as I do, hundreds of files to go through, this becomes a real hassle.

I suspect Photoshop, as a part of the file open operation, has set its current "default directory" to the folder in which you're working.  You could prove that by opening  a file in another folder and seeing if the prior folder is still unable to be deleted.
Are you using Bridge in any part of this process?  Seems to be a better match for what you're doing.
If you'd rather not use Bridge, have you considered using Windows Explorer and a viewer application instead of Photoshop to look through these images?  IrfanView or possibly even Windows Photo Viewer with a codec pack come to mind.

  • Sending images by PSE8 sharing

I use PSE8 under Win7 Ultimate on a 64-bit machine.  I use gmail, and I dont use Outlook.  PSE8 is working well, but I cannot share - neither by photomail, email attachment by adobe e-mail, Windows mail, etc.  No matter what I do, "errors" result.  Photomail results in PSE8 crashing.
Win7 has been out a long time.  What am I doing wrong?
I fear upgrading to PSE9 because of possible catalog icompatibilities.  I have a large and precious calaog with much metadata.

Reading blocks at a time is better, but unless you have multi-MB images, it won't make much difference. That doesn't address any of the three fatal deficiencies I mentioned. The code I posted makes no assumptions. Yours makes at least three, none of which are reliable. You are correct, the code was intended to illustrate how simple it could be.
However there were many other assumptions which I consider more import. For example, the code does not close() the devices in a finally block on an exception leading to a possible resources leak. (which in turn needs to be wrapped in a try/catch)
While I have seen file/socket fail to be read/written, I have never seen a file needing multiple calls to read if the buffer is sufficient. (Doesn't mean it might not be a problem of course, and there are many things which could be do to have the code more robust)

  • How do we get to see RAW images in PSE8 organizer?

We create all our photographic images in RAW format. Using the PSE 8 in a PC we cannot
view them. How or what do we do to make them visible?

    Go here:

  • Why do my images look good in PSE8, darker & more saturated in browsers, etc.?

I've been creating some images using PSE8. The images look good, bright in PSE8. But the files, when saved as jpgs or as tifs appear darker and have more intense color when viewed through web browsers and Windows Picture & FAX Viewer. (the total effect is, the images look different, worse.) The same images on the same computer viewed on the same monitor look different in PSE8 and when viewed through other programs. This is not a printing problem, per se. The files print as they appear on the browsers etc. when I print them through PSE8. This is a problem that happens consistently with many different images.
It seems as if PSE8 is interpreting the files uniformly differently than these other programs. HELP!!!

I don't know what the eRGB profile is -- where did you find it?  Usually there is a profile with the name "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" or something very similar.  If your Windows is insisting on a default profile for your display, that's the one to set it to.
Your issue almost certainly is caused by a defective color profile.  PSE 8 is a "color managed" program, which means that it uses the color profile associated with your display to reproduce colors more accurately on the screen.  If the color profile is defective, and you adjust a photo in the Editor to look right, then the adjusted photo won't reproduce accurately when you view it through a non-color-managed program (Windows viewer, browsers) or on another system with a proper color profile.
So to fix this issue, you need to either remove the profile entirely (not sure why Windows XP won't let you do that) or associate "sRGB" to the display.

  • EXIF time difference once images imported into Organizer in PSE8

I have been frustrated for a very long time and did some reading on the web - The solution: Sorry it is a bug
in PSE* and cannot be fixed!!!!!
The problem: Once I have imported images into PSE8 Organizer the EXIF time is converted to exactly two hours earlier, i.e. to GMT whereas I am at GMT+2. Note that the time on my Canon 7D and my computer (on windows 7) are correct!!!!!! If I do not use organizer, I do not have the problem!
From what I have read it is a bug in PSE and there is no permanent fix, but really.... How can Adobe not solve the problem?
Will it help if I purchase another copy of PSE8, is there a PERMANENT fix available and if so, what?
I am really frustrated, as I want to use the organizer, but cannit do it as the time is of great importance to me in my wildlife photography!!!!
    Anyone?
    Rudi

Wonderful! This EXIF standard, 2.2, http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/service/digCam/exifStandard2.pdf explains to me that the original form of the material digitized could be a "slide", "paper", "map" and so forth; so it's a standard for many types of digital still "cameras", not just a standard for typical, portable consumer cameras. EXIF time recording is first described on page 55.
Most of the time (or all of the time for me?), in Lightroom, the "date time original" and "Time Date digitized" has been the same and changing the original date will obviously (?) change the digitized date, too.
    Thanks!
PS: re-reading my post, I don't want anyone to think I was really getting RAW data from my Sony. It's a great little pocket camera but it only produces JPG's.

  • Image remains after closing window.

    Hi!
I just purchased my first LCD display (23" Apple) and I immediately noticed an anomaly. When I have a window open, such as mail, after closing, the image of the window remains faintly on the desk top. I can even read the title of the last email etc. The image slowly fades away and disappears but it's somewhat unnerving. An image even remained from the previous user after I switched.
Is this common? Just a "thing" that LCDs do? After all the hype about xboxes burning in on plasma TVs, I'm a little paranoid.
Thanks to all for your advice and council !
    Jeff

    Hey Jeff -
I had a problem with my 23 ghosting a good while back, but I changed the desktop and I haven't noticed it since, I have read of others mentioning the problem, try searching this folder for "ghost".
This document has some information but from reading posts in the past I suspect the ghosting is partially a hardware issue and some monitors of the same model have it worse than others.

  • PSE8 unusual high CPU load

    Dear members and supporters,
after a new clean install of PSE8 on a MacBook Pro dual core 2,4GHz / 2GB RAM / OS 10.5. latest version the CPU load right after program start represents a normal idle value of about 1 percent. After opening an image the load goes up to about 34 percent without any further usage of PSE8 and remains on this value. That's the case with different images of about 3 - 5 MB (from digital cameras) and it's reproducable. When working in PSE on the image the load will run on 100 percent and more on one processor core and not very less on the other.
After closing the image (no matter if manipulated or not) the load still remains on 34 percent.
With a newer system on another MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6 latest version, the unusual load ist quite similar. There it's about 1 percent after start and about 15 percent CPU load on both cores after opening an image. Here as well with no further usage of the program. Also here it remains on this level after closing the image.
So when starting PSE and working on images the system load is always at about 100 percent, fan is blowing with full power and won't slow down again even after hours. In general the fan is rarely in progress and never on this level. Also PSE8 slows down the entire system when working with other applications nearby. No difference if the image is bigger or not.
Is there already a work-around or fix for this problem available?
In my eyes the problem is obviously caused by PSEs code - no other application shows a behaviour like this. Also in activity manager on Mac OS PSE8 has an entry as no 64bit app. When will this be a real 64bit application?
    Best regards, Peer

My experience has been that running Mainstage on my Macbook Air 11 (2ghz i7/8gb ram/Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB) with an external monitor makes Mainstage unusable. A concert that runs at ~40-50% CPU on the laptop screen peaks at over 110-120%+ with my 27" Thunderbolt display.
It makes it a drag editing programs, while holding a guitar, looking at an 11" screen when a 27" is sitting next to the laptop unusable.
The MBAir 11 works great on gigs with Mainstage and no external monitor though. It makes for a light, but a bit delicate (as with any laptop), setup.
For a program that's supposed to "just work" Mainstage has a very deep, and sometimes very obtuse, learning curve. And I've used Logic for 20 years now.

  • LR2: can't see the images I've edited in Photoshop

I'm working on a Mac Pro desktop.
I'm in the LR2 develop module. I right-click on an image to "edit in CS3". No problem, the image opens up in CS3. I work on the image, then save and close the image.
Here's the problem: After saving and closing the image, I go back to LR2, and the new edited image (saved as a tiff) is not visible in Lightroom! And no, it isn't "stacked" behind the original - it's just not visible - like it wasn't even there.
I know it's there because I can see the tiff file right there using the Mac Finder. Where did the image go and how do I get my saved edits to automatically be visible in LR2? Thanks.

Sounds like you are experiencing one of the issues described in this thread of over 200 messages:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5f883/217
Do you have any special characters in your folder name, e.g., ampersand, apostrophe? That will cause the TIF to be stored in the same directory but not imported into LR. You can Synchronize Folder to import the TIF file(s).

  • How do I open a raw image with the Photoshop raw plug in as opposed to the Bridge raw plug-in.

I read in a book on adobe raw that it is often useful to open an image at the same time with the adobe camera raw bridge plug in and the Photoshop camera raw plug in.
I can open a raw image in photoshop but I suspect I am not actually getting access to the camera raw plug in as none of the controls present in the bridge raw plug seem to be available from within Photoshop.
Of course I can access bridge and the bridge raw plug in by opening bridge from within Photoshop but this is not what I want to do.  I would like to open the image using the photoshop raw plug in not the bridge plug in.
    Clueless . . . and confused.

Thanks for the discussion.  It is interesting.  Let me clarify a bit regarding my issue.
I am using Mountain Lion OSX on a mac, of course, and CS6.  I have been using Aperture, a piece of Apple Software similar to Light Room to organize my images, opening them from Aperture in Photoshop to edit them, as I am both familiar with Photoshop and like the way it does things better than Aperture.  I recently started using CS6 and working with Adobe Camera raw 7, which I think is the version that comes with CS6.  All the info I can get from the web site, including a very nice tutorial from Adobe on camera raw, simply tells me to open it from Bridge.  When I do this, I get a nice set of sliders and other adjustments specifically associated with Adobe Camera Raw and the camera I am using.
I can open a file in Photoshop using the method SkillRooster suggests and, sure enough, it opens it with the camera raw plug-in (if I simply open the image by double clicking on it it opens in photoshop, no plug-in).  If I then go to bridge and open it from there, I don't get a second instance of Camera raw, it simply points me at the instance opened through Photoshop.
However, when I open a raw image in Photoshop from Aperture  (raw images open with no problem) I simply get the Photoshop interface, not the camera raw plug-in, the same as if I had double clicked on the image to open it from outside of Aperture.  I am trying to figure out if there is some way to open an image from Aperture in Photoshop so that it opens in the camera raw plug-in.  One possibility I could imagene is to open it in Photoshop and from there open it in the plug-in.  The only thing I see regarding this in Photoshop is a menu item that lets me close the image and open Bridge, which doesn't help me with my Aperture issue.  I could decide to switch to bridge, but with the thousands of images I now have in Aperture, this would be quite a bit of work.  I may just have to work with both going forward.
The root of my original question comes from something I recently read in a book by Bruce Fraser on Camera Raw which is excellent, but it focues on CS 5.5 as he died before being able to update it.  In that book he describes a trick he uses where he opens the raw image in a plug-in in Bridge and then opens it a second time using a plug-in in Photoshop.  This give him a chance to compare adjustments between the two open images.  As I mentioned above, when I try to do this by starting with Photoshop and then going to Bridge, it points me at the same instance.  I can't open it in Bridge and then Photoshop since once it is open in Bridge, it won't let me into Photoshop without closing the image in Bridge.  I was thinking there might be something in Fraser's method that would help me with my Aperture issue, but can't reproduce what he describes.
Perhaps this was possible in CS5.5 but no longer  in CS6.
Another work around I can imagine is to do all my raw editing from Bridge and then save the file as a DNG file in Aperture.  I suspect that after that, I am stuck with doing any more raw editing using the Aperture camera raw funcions, which are a bit lacking compared with Adobe Camera Raw.
Hope I am being clear here about my dilemma.  Any help would be welcomed.

  • PS CS6: Images sometimes not saved when using Close All and instructed to save

I thought I had made a crazy mistake when this happened earlier today, but it just did it again and I was paying close attention.
I often open multiple images to make several changes, then use Close All and when it prompts "Do you want to save changes to ... before closing?" I check off the box to "Apply to all" and say Yes.   This saves lots of time when adjusting several multi-hundred MB images.  Imagine my surprise today when it closed an image without saving!  I had to repeat about 30 minutes of work as a result.
I thought I had somehow accidentally clicked "No" to saving, so I made sure to pay close attention the next few times I used Close All to save work.  It worked fine until a moment ago when it did it again.
Has anyone seen something like this?  I can't find anything in searching.  In all my time using this feature in PS I never once had a problem before.

    Thanks for the reply.
I just upgraded to CS6 from CS5 a few days ago, and this is my first week in heavy usage.
I do have Save in Background turned on.  I am saving locally.  I also have auto recovery saves turned on, at 5 minute intervals (CS6 has crashed a few times on me)
Yesterday I used Close All with Save maybe 10 times, and it exhibited this behavior 2 of those times.
In the two cases, I had 3 PSDs open, each a little over 400 mb in size.  It seemed to save two of the images, but left one unsaved.  I noticed that instead of spending several seconds saving, it would quickly just close that image - as though it believed no changes had been made.  The changes that had been made to the image were routine - add some adjustment layers, some masks etc.
I have tried to reproduce it by opening the same images, making similar changes and then repeating Close All with Save, but so far no (bad) luck.  Idle speculation - could it have something to do with the frequent interval of autorecovery saves that I do? Some kind of conflict?  Or is it something to do with background saves?  Definitely never saw this in previous versions of PS.
As a workaround, I have made a simple action that saves an image and apply it in batch.  I just can't risk losing work.
