Closing application when falling asleep

Everytime my MacBook Pro falls asleep, Firefox and all other open applications got closed and donwloading cancelled and I loose all my open web pages. How can I prevent this? Thanx.

apple really needs to come up with an update to fix this issue. i mean you may loose all your work just because your mac wants to sleep. I think this is really stupid of apple to not think about this issue. i think there should be an option to keep the mac ON while the lid is closed. And i also think that it needs a sleep mode like windows does, you know the one where computer does go to sleep but without closing all the applications so that we wont loose all the work that we were doing and had not been saved yet.

  • BatteryPower, doesn't fall asleep when battery empty.. keeps running

    Hi,
I'm having a weird "problem"/"feauture" (depends on how you see it :P)
When i'm running on batterypower, and the battery reachers 1%, it sticks there
where it normally falls asleep... I can just keep working. This worries me because I don't want to kill the internal battery for when it is asleep :\
I don't remember where I saw it, but in some little app i read that my battery capacity is merely 55mAh (or something like that) That's not much
Could it just be that the battery isn't at 1% at all... but at like +/- 50% ?
Maybe the battery gives wrong information or something... is there a safe reset for it somewhere?
    Thanks in advance

Try booting into OS 9 and see if the problem exists there, too. If so, it is probably your reed switch at fault.
Apple says not to run it with the display closed.

How do I set Safari to prompt before closing multiple tabs OR reopen all of the closed tabs when when I relaunch the application?  The "Reopen all windows from last session" is unselectable.

It would seem if your choose "Show my windows and tabs from last time" '''''and''''',
*when you last closed Firefox, you had no web site open (just a blank tab), that it would open just that blank tab
*when you last closed Firefox, you had one or more tabs/web site open, that would allow you to "Restore Previous Session"
    #Have you tried that?
#If so, what is happening in each circumstance when you reopen Firefox?
    '''Restore Previous Session'''<br />
Open tabs are automatically saved when closing Firefox beginning in Firefox 4. To open your last session, after Firefox starts, click History > Restore Previous Session. For this to work

  • Ipad falling asleep when recording in GB

    Hi all,
Ive had this happen to me once before but it stopped. I am recording in garageband and my ipad wont stay awake the whole time I am recording. So it falls asleep during the middle of a song and stops recording. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? I have restarted my ipad with no luck and have unplugged my blue yeti mic...pretty much done everything I can think to do.

It's not the drive you can hear, it's the fan. The drive runs all the time and is quiet: when you work in GarageBand the demands on the processor heat it up and this causes the fan to kick in. While an external hard drive would be a good idea, to give you more space and take stress off the internal drive, it won't affect this issue as it's the processor which is the cause. However it's harmless enough, the fan should keep the processor to a reasonable temperature.
You could install TemperatureMonitor if you wanted to keep an eye on the processor temperature.

  • Activate application when screen saver active or display asleep

I cannot activate an application when the screen saver is active nor when the display is asleep.
    Neither
    tell application "Safari" to activate
    nor
do shell script "open -a Safari"
work or log errors when run as part of a GUI script.
Does anyone know the reason or a workaround?

    I also tried
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari" to set frontmost to true
to no avail. I'm out of ideas, for now.
So, GUI scripting doesn't work if you schedule a script to run without the application being frontmost when the screen saver executes or the display sleeps?

  • My original iBook Graphite falls asleep when just finished starting up.

OK, first, I was working on my ibook when my cat came up with spilling my coffe on my ibook, then I ran to the apple store and made them fix it at all cost, then they told me that the battery connector was ureparably broken, so I live with my mac always wired on, and changing the date and time every time I disconnect it, now, the real problem is this: I downloaded and installed the os 9.2.1 update for mi ibook, everything all right, then the message of restarting my computer appaered, it restarted all normal, then when it entered the multiple users window it just falls asleep, i can wake it up for about 4 seconds, then, asleep, there's no other symptom, the thingy flashes as normal, etc...
I have tried resseting the PMU several times, but nothing, I dont know what's happening!!!!!!!
HELP!!!!, I don't wanna throw my computer, I love it.
    Thanks
    P.S.
Sorry if I posted a question already posted, is just that there are like 2,002 questions and posts, so it would take a great time to look at them all.

ibook g3 original graphite   Mac OS 9.2.x

If you have another Mac, hook up your ibook harddrive to that and copy your files and data across and wipe the drive clean then do the updates respectively. Then you could transfer you data from the other mac back and it should work fine. I think it may be an extension conflict, it sounds as though it would originate from a power managment sort of thing. I haven't used OS 9 for more than a day when my ibook shipped until i upgraded to OS X so im sorry if the details are sketchy.
Also is there a repair or diagnostic feature on the OS 9 cd. Because if so, you could boot the cd and attempt a repair from there.

  • Display falls asleep and won't wake when connected to new Haswell MBP

For over a year now I've used my 2007 Macbook Pro and my 2004 20in Cinema display together. I woud dock my macbook pro and just use my cinema display as my main display.
I attempted to do this with my brand new macbook pro today. Purchased a Mini Display port to DVI adaptor and I can get the display to appear on my the 20in Cinema Display, but when I close my laptop it falls asleep and so does the monitor. I've been able to wake it up for about 10 seconds but then it'll fall asleep again and I can't wake it up any longer.
Has anyone had a similar issue like this and is there a solution out there?

  • Mac falls asleep when battery gets down to roughly, half charged

it falls asleep once it gets to this point, and then i wake it up and the charge has gone right down.
Does it need to be calibrated? or is the problem bigger than that?

Most likely you need a replacement. There are known issues with MBP batteries, and an extension of the battery warranty to 2 years, as described on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
Go to System Profiler (Apple menu > About this mac > More info) and click on Power. If the Full Charge Capacity is less than 4400 mAh for a 15" or less than 5000 mAh for a 17" MBP, your battery is failing. If your Cycle Count is less than 300, your battery is failing prematurely and Apple will replace it for free. If that's the case, call Apple or visit an Apple Store for a free replacement.

  • My 2008 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion now falls asleep regardless of what is or is not happening.

First the good news. My 2008 MacBook Pro, which used to not fall asleep unless forced to do so (lid closed or command issued) now falls asleep. The bad news is that it will fall asleep even if a program is doing something and I'm not physically doing anything. More accurately it will fall asleep when uploading to Box.net, or when downloading map updates for my GPS. It also falls asleep when EyeTV is converting shows, but not when it's recording shows. I have third party apps that can keep it awake, but shouldn't my MBP recognize that something is happening and to not fall asleep?

  • PLEASE HELP! My MacBook Pro doesn't fall asleep

My MacBook Pro doesn't fall asleep on its own any more. Currently, my Energy saver is set so that the display falls asleep after 1 minute, and the computer itself, after 3 minutes. Even if I don't have any softwares running, or anything else, it doens't fall asleep. Please give me some suggestion about what to do about this! (or would I need to take it to a shop? ... )

Well, since the machine does properly sleep when the lid is closed, my guess would be that you have a software conflict and not a hardware problem. Since your are up to date, have repaired permissions, and can't remember anything else that may have changed, it could be difficult to track down the culprit.
One thing you can try, it takes a bit of work but will help show if software is the real problem. You could create a new user account, and don't install anything new in it. Log in as the new user, and see if sleep works there. Often as you use your main user profile, you accumulate software programs and utilities, and sometimes then can conflict with one another. If you create a fresh user account, often it will not have the same software conflict.
If the new account sleeps normally, then you can assume that you have a software conflict somewhere, and you should think through what you have installed. If the new user account has the same problem, my guess would be that something is out of whack with the OS, and you need to decide if a full system reinstall is worth it (that is a big decisions, don't just jump into it).
Regardless of the outcome, after you have used the second account for a test, you can simply delete it.
    Cheers,
    Josh

I tried to set sleep in Energy Manager and this is the Console message when I did.  Mac won't fall asleep on it's own.  All third party or applications which might cause it to stay awake were off.  I think it's a plist problem but which one?

  • Macbook didn't fall asleep and the fan was running?

I closed my macbook this afternoon and expected it to fall asleep like every other time, but after getting back this evening, I noticed the fan was running as if it was hot, it wasn't asleep, and I had to reboot using the power button in order to get back into Mac OSX. What is going on here? Does this happen on occasion? Or do I need to take it in and get it fixed? This is the first time it has happened and I've had it for about a month and a half. Thanks for your info.

No. If something would have overheated, it would have shutdown completely, and the fan wouldn't have been running.
When your OS stops communicating with the hardware, the fan kicks in to protect the computer from catastrophic damage. Same with iMacs, Power Macs, etc. By running, it actually protected the MacBook. You should be fine.

  • 20 seconds to fall asleep

Sorry to post yet another MBP sleep question.
Mine takes approximately 20 seconds to go to sleep each time.
I've tried all of the suggestions. Stopped apps, bluetooth, menu extras, etc.
I've also "pmset -a hibernatemode 0 lidwake 0" and I've renamed /var/vm/sleepimage, just to ensure it's not going into safe sleep mode. Cretainly does feel like safe sleep, although the waking is normal.
I discovered all of this because when I closed my lid it wasn't sleeping, and then when I opened the lid, it would sleep...
Anyway, I would like to get it to sleep in a few seconds instead of 20.

Are you saying that it takes about 20 seconds to fall asleep when you close it or click "sleep" from the Apple menu, or do you mean it falls asleep after 20 seconds of inactivity? I assume you mean the former. I'm pretty sure it takes a little while to fall asleep because the RAM is being paged out to the hard drive, which takes a little while. Supposedly, this is why people can swap batteries while their MBPs are asleep without having to restart them.
If that's what is going on, I don't think there's anything you can do to speed the process up. I guess you could remove some RAM so that there was less to write to the HD (probably the only time less RAM makes your Mac faser).

  • Sleep option, closing applications, etc.

    Dear Expert,
Is there a shortcut to put your mac to sleep so you don't have to go cliking around with your mouse? Is there a shortcut to closing all applications before doing so? If a mac is asleep, does it use more energy if there are applications open?
    Thanks a million.
    Cheers.

    44snowman:
The shortcut for putting your computer to sleep is to briefly tap the power button. If you hold it for several seconds it will reboot your computer, so just tap it for a split second. The computer will not use any more power if you put it to sleep with "applications running". Nothing is really running while the computer sleeps, and the power used is just what is needed to keep the RAM from being cleared.
There is no shortcut that I know of for quitting all running applications, but I am sure you can search the internet for an AppleScript to do it. However, it is just fine to keep open applications when putting the computer to sleep, as indicated above.
    Good luck,
    Juan-Pablo

  • How do I stop my external HD from falling asleep??? So, so Frustrating!!!!

    Hey Apple users
OK, I have a Seagate 500GB external HD formated with MAC OS Extended. This puppy is great, very dependable, only ONE issue...
After not using it for a few minutes, it falls asleep, and when it needs to be used, it takes an annoying 6 seconds to start up. Working with audio and having live samples that are stored on this HD, not having them playback for a few minutes (ext. HD then falls asleep), then playing back the entire project with these files needing immediate use, the software CRASHES because it can't access the data fast.
I have no room on my PowerBook HD for much at all. This also causes problems in iTunes, wanting to play a song after not touching iTunes for a few minutes (when not playing), iTunes freezes for some seconds until it can access the songs on the external HD.
SO SO ANNOYING, the internal HD takes like .01 seconds to access data. And this HD takes like a painful 6 seconds Ugh,
How can I keep my external HD awake ALL THE TIME, unless my entire Mac is asleep??
    Thanks!

Actually, this app. I mentioned above... HDriveAwake... is not a good idea,
it has many flaws, but it's decent software, just needs some improvements, main issue: consumes an incredible amount of RAM and Processing PWR while working.... (on my mac.. consumed 60+ %) & this is a bad thing if you use an EXTERNAL HD for stuff like audio/photo/video editing... I'm just going to get a Mac Pro G5 with like 4TB, I need it.... my bank account doesn't, but i do...
