Closing Dashboard client

I am attempting to download the latest Adobe Flash player and it keeps telling me to close my Dashboard client. How do I do this other than clicking the arrow on the dashboard page?

Hi there! I had the same exact problem... Tried closing everything and re-logging in, and it didn't work....
So, I took VK's advice... Here's what worked, and I'm gonna spell it all out the Dummy way, 'cause that's how I need things done for me! : )
In the Finder Menu I clicked on the GO tab and scrolled down to Utilities. Click on the Activity Monitor. Click on Dock and then click on the big red stop sign at the top (Quit Process)....
Make sure everything else is closed and then tried to install the Flash Player again. It should work! (Fingers crossed!)

How do you close Dashboard/ client on  Mac before finishing installation of Player upgrade?

Hmm, you shouldn't normally be running into that.  Do you have a current installer?  You can get the latest at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer.
If so, I'm guessing that one of your dashboard widgets keeps Flash in-use, but I'm not sure what it would be.
Choose the apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, then Force Quit.  Hopefully Dashboard/Client will be an option.
If not, it might be easier to just reboot into Safe Mode to do the installation (safe mode is slow, so you'll want to reboot when you're done):

  • How do I "Close Dashboard Client"?

I am trying to install Adobe Flash Player 10 on my MacBook Pro. However, the installation does not take place because I continue receiving an error that says I must "Close Dashboard Client". What does that mean, and how do I accomplish that? I searched here in the forums and found nothing regarding this topic.
I should also note that I am not only asking this question for myself, but for two other people who are running into the same error message when trying to do the installation. The other computers involved are a MacBook Pro identical to mine, and a brand new iMac. Thanks for any assistance!

I tried to quit the process...actually in the Activity Monitor I have 5 "DasboardClients" and none of them will quit once I quit them (or even force quit them) they keep popping back up. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem. Went to System Preferences/Accounts, and under My Account/Login Items I deleted Safari and Dashboard apps with "-" button to stop them opening automatically on start-up. Then restarted Mac with Safari and Dashboard closed, and then activated Adobe app from "Downloads" folder without going to Safari again. Worked for me.

  • I can't install Flash Player on Mac, because of Dashboard Client

I can't install Flash Player on my Macbook Pro OS X Mountain Lion, because of error it keep showing me, that my Dashboard Client is running and i need to close it.

Unfortunately, going through all the widgets, closing them, quitting the dashboard, installing Adobe whatever, then reinstalling all the widgets is a complete PITA.
There is a widget called Dashquit 3.0 which is supposed to turn dashboard off. When I tried it with 10.9.3, It quit dashboard, but dashboard started back up immediately, preventing the Adobe install. I then looked at other answers which recommended turning the dashboard process off using Activity Monitor. Same results - using either Quit or Force Quit, dashboard stopped for a millisecond then restarted.
The thing that finally worked for me after all of this was to restart the computer. I shut down Safari before restarting so that it would not appear immediately on restart. As soon as I was able to after the restart, I opened the Adobe .dmg file and started the install process. It finally installed without any further intervention.
Adobe, it sure would be nice if your installer-writers were to ignore the Dashboard Client since it doesn't use Flash as far as I know, and it would be even more convenient if the installer shut down Safari or Chrome or Firefox or other browsers automatically with permission from the user. It sure would make things a lot easier. Other installers do this routinely, so why can't you?

  • Please quit dashboard client

    BRO,
It's strange that after you're closing the Dashboard, that it creates an new instance.  It should be the responibility of the operating system to close intended applications.
For more information about the DashboardClient, I found this link that would be a good reference. http://www.macinside.info/process.php?name=DashboardClient

  • How to quit dashboard client?

I've been trying to download Adobe Flash Player, and in order to do that, I have to exit out of everything. To the best of my knowledge, I have, but I now have two instances of "dashboard client" that runs and won't allow me to install Flash. What is this, and what can I do to fix it?

I have closed all widgets and the installer is still telling me that I need to close dashboard client before it will install. I can find anything else to close? I even tried the unistaller and it has the same issue? The only widget still running is the world clock and it wont let me close it?

  • Close dashboard client

Trying to update adobe flash player and requires closing Safari and Dashboard client. Know how to close Safari but do not how to close the dashboard client to complete installation in Yosemite.

I've never heard you need to close dashboard. How do install the update?
If you need, go to System preferences - Mission Control in the upper half of the Window you see the Dashboard with it's pull down menu on the right. Click on that and  turn it off.

  • Whenever I try to update flash player it demands I close a dashboard client, but it doesn't say which one.  I have 10 of them running.  the installer must know which one, why doesn't it offer to close it (or them)?

    see the title.

the installer doesn’t flag the clients…that’s the problem.  if I knew what it was complaining about I would kill it.  please don’t tell me the installer is really saying “kill all the dashboard clients”.  if that’s it then why doesn’t it offer to do it?  either a) it knows where the conflict is but won’t tell me;  or b) doesn’t know even if there is a conflict and leaves it up to me to guess.  great.  sure, I could kill them one by one and eventually find out which one, assuming the answer isn’t b), but I really think the installer could do a better job.  up to me there would be no flash clients and thus no issues.

  • Selector closing all sockets if one found closed by client

    Hi,
    I have a selector monitoring 8 sockets.
One socket is closed by client.
Selector closes the same socket from its side and then it gets IOException on all other socketChannel's read method, it eventually closes all socketChannels.
Can somebody give me solution which will close only those channels which are closed by client

Selectors don't do this, it must be your code. Show us.

  • How can I temporarily disable dashboard client

I want to install an updated version of Adobe Flash.  i am being instructed to close Safari (no problem) and Dashboard Client.  How can I temporarily disable Dashboard Client so that I can install the update?  I am currently using MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.2.

Use Terminal to disable the Dashboard. Go to Applications>Utilities>Terminal
Once you have the window open in Terminal copy & paste this command to disable it:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
Then, restart the Dock using the following command:
    killall Dock
If you want to enable your Dashboard again simply replaceYES with NO in the top command and repeat the process.
