Closing illustrator cs3 - restarts computer!?!

Hello, i and my college face an intresting problem. Every time when i'm closing illustrator cs3 my computer are restarting (no questions, nothing, just blink and "welcome to windows"). Only way to keep computer and data alive is to keep opened illustrator for all day. Not a big problem at one side but at other thats litle bit uncomfortable and seems not correct.
Haven't find solution on google, maybe here someone had that kind a fault.

SSSS,
Hello, i and my college face an intresting problem.
Is this happening on just one computer (yours) or on multiple computers?
I have never heard of this one before. Illy is always trying to help, but she is never possessive like that. It must be some kind of crash.

  • Illustrator CS3 restarting the machine on quit

Hey, we had this problem since last year after an update.
At the time we finish work in Illustrator CS 3 - (we have 2 PC Pentium D 3 GB RAM 500 GB Raid HDD - Windows XP - SP3 ), if, we want to quit the Program, one of the machines is restarting without any other warning and the other one is displaying an error like    a pop-up window saying  DESTROY! and if you push the ok button (the only option) the computer goes down - restarting.
    Any suggestions?
We mostly work on Mac computers but those two machines have to run special rip software for some printing machines made only for Windows.
Thanks and looking forward to find a solution!

    Hey,
Having a Windows machine implies having an AntiVirus software and we have installed a licenced copy of BitDeffender 14.0.24.330.
The RIP is as i mentioned WasatchSoftRip 6.6 also licenced (USB Dongle).
As I mentioned we have same kind of problems on two different machines, but, as far as I remember  both have been used together with the printer, so could be the printer driver causing the problems... Hmmm, we do have another machine which is running same version of illustrator and the same AntiVirus, so, might be the RIP causing the problems. Any suggestions how to correct this problem? We had big problems when we had the printer running and Illustrator crashing - interrupting a 10 meter print on half ... Ouch.
thanks again and looking forward to solve this problem
Perhaps i should also write to Wasatch.
    cheers!
    Later Edit:
I did ask my colleagues about the history of this error and looks like one of the machines was having the problem before installing the RIP software. So?
We have 3 machines running same version of Windows XP, same Antivirus, same Version Of Illustrator - CS3    two of the machines also have installed WasatchSoftRip and illustrator's problem has a history before  installing the rip and the printer driver.
    Any thoughts?
Shall we try to uninstall the antivirus?
    thanks

Try trashing the .plist with CharacterViewer in its name in Home/Library/Preferences.  To get to Home/Library you may need to hold the option key down while you do Finder > Go.

If the application supported auto-save, yes, if not, then no.

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Illustrator CS3 crashes at launch (Mac OS 10.6.8)

    Hello everyone,
Can somebody please help me out from this.
I'm using Illustrator CS3 on Mac 10.6.8. As I remember, I had installed some new fonts which I doubt it may have caused the error. I tried removing the User>Library>Preferences>Illustrator Settings folder. Plus I validated all the fonts including the new fonts on FontBook. Still negative. So I can't figure out what's the actual cause and how to troubleshoot it.

    code,
Item 11) in 5) in the list below is about font cashes; item 1) is about moving fonts (Illy may reject fonts that go through validation). You may also try to move preferences/folders as described in 4). 6) may be needed.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
External media: It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky (for a while), but the chances of file corruption and other unpleasantnesses are immensely greater when you use anything but the harddisk, and it is better to be safe than sorry.
In addition to the (far greater) risk of file corruption, some issues are mentioned here:

  • Conflict with Illustrator CS3?

I was just wondering if anyone had heard of any conflicts

  • MAC Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3

    Model Name:iMac / Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo / Memory:4 GB
When I installed Illustrator CS3 at the first time, I didn't complete it and closed it. While I installed it again, it said "Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3". I was be stopped on this step, so I deleted the Illustrator CS3 from Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers without clicking it to uninstall. And I deleted other Illustrator CS3 files. After that, I tried to reinstall Illustrator CS3 again, but it kept to say "Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3".
I cannot find any Illustrator in my MAC. What is wrong? How can I install Illustrator again? Should I format the computer and install all the applications again?

On the Adobe site probably under support do a search for Adobe CS 3 Clean Up Script.
Before running the script read the instructions al the instructions first, do not assume you understand from reading the first sentence. There are some files that are not so obvious that are necessary for activation and they are probably still around but they can only be removed by the script.
Next time you will have to read the instructions.
The only other ways around this is the do an archival reinstall of your system or if that does not work a complete reinstall of your system. Running the script is the easier and better way to do this but you must read the instructions completely first.

  • Running Illustrator CS3 on Portable Hard Drive

I would like to run Illustrator CS3 (Windows) on a portable hard drive that can connect to different machines (so that I can work from home, go to friend's computer, etc). I've been able to do this with InDesign CS2 but it gives me an error message when I try it with Illustrator.
How can I get all of Illustrator to install on my portable hard drive?

Real-world example of what I mean by Adobe continually PUNISHING its most loyal repeat customers with its INFURIATING installation/registration/activation NONSENSE:
    1. Last weekend, on this machine, I started seeing errors about AdobeFntLst. The errors instructed me to run chkDsk. I finished my work and shut down the machine.
    2. At the next restart, Windows automatically launched chkDsk. I let it run its course. It automatically restarted the machine.
    3. Blue screen. Could not get the computer to run, no matter what.
    4. Formatted the C drive. Reinstalled Windows. Installed all Windows updates. Now have a clean and crisp running fresh install of Windows XP Professional.
    5. Deep breath. Ready to install the hideous CS3 Master Collection.
    This is a
very time-consuming install, so I have put it off until today (Saturday morning).
Insert the first DVD. Installer launches. Click install. Agree the license. Get the serial number screen.
Can't type the serial number. Think my keyboard is broken. But it works fine in other apps.
No explanation of this stupid behavior whatsoever is offered by the stupid installer, but I know what's going on: The stupid installer is looking for a copy of a CS app, because the Master Collection was bought as an upgrade from CS2 Premium--which was bought as an upgrade from CS Premium.
So I won't be able to install CS2 Premium either. I'll have to install CS Premium. Then CS2 Premium. Then the stupid CS3 Master Collection installer will let me type a serial number.
Or, I could (assumedly) install the CS3 Master Collection as a demo, hoping I can activate it after. But that disallows installation of some of the content on the disks. Do I want to do the version shuffle, and risk all the dangers of all the associated installers? Or do I want to install the CS3 Master Collection as a trial, hoping that I can then register and activate it, and then weed through the disks trying to find all the content that was disallowed?
How much of my money has Adobe acquired since I've been using its apps (dating back to Photoshop 1)?
Does ANY paying customer deserve this kind of abuse?

  • Solved the Illustrator CS3 Crash Error upon saving file on my OS.

I was unable to save any Illustrator file. Upon saving a file Illustrator CS3 crashed and an error message would pop up and windows error reporting service would be launched to report the error and close Illustrator.exe.
Until i found out that i had the "Print Spooler Service" set to manual. I always start this service manually when need to print things. So, when i started this service and did a print from MS Word, and latter on thought to give Adobe Illustrator another try, i created an illustration and click on save and WOW it saved my file without any crashes.
To test this worked fully, i opened an older version .ai file and did some changes and used the save and save as command, both worked.
    I am relieved now.

This one is for all of you who couldn't get the above to work:
I have Windows XP and CS3 Illustrator.
This same problem happened to me in Photoshop. To fix it, I stopped Version Cue from grabbing the "Save As" window before I could save. Here's how:
    In Photoshop:
Edit > Preferences > File Handling...
In the last box, uncheck "Enable Version Cue." Problem solved. (I believe this may be turned on during Adobe update, but I am unsure. What I do know is the problem stems entirely from Version Cue.)
The fix for Illustrator is a bit more complex. The same thing happened to me in Illustrator (and it used to save just fine without any changes on my part) but Version Cue was already unchecked. That is why I wound up on this thread.
    1) In Illustrator:
Edit > Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard
    2) Uncheck "Enable Version Cue" (if it is already unchecked, this is okay, that is how mine was)
    3) Go into Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)
Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > Support Files > Contents > Windows
    4) In this folder is a sub folder called "Version Cue." Rename "Version Cue" to something else like "OLD Version Cue".
    5) You can now save files in Illustrator (may require relaunch of Illustrator).
    ***NOTE***
From one of the above posts I found that to keep from having to kill Illustrator every time it freezes on save (pre-fix) hold down "Alt+F4" to close the invisible "Save as" window that is locking things up.
If the above does not work, try some of the other things I did which I do not believe made a difference, but just in case:
    1) Choose a valid, online printer
    2) Close other programs
    3) Restart your computer
    4) Trash the old Illustrator preferences (Documents and Settings > (your login) > Application Data > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings)
    5) When Illustrator freezes, hit "alt" then after hit "enter" then select "Move" from the drop down menu at the top left. Drag a whole bunch without lifting the left click button. Restart Illustrator. Repeat.
