Closing Illustrator CS5 in Windows 7

I recently installed my copy of Illustrator from the Web Premium Package on a new computer on which Windows 7 Pro 64bit is the OS.  I have no problen with the program until I exit it.  I close the proigram by going to File > Exit, as one would normally do.  After the window had disappered a message comes up on my desktop the there is a problem with Illustrator and its looking for the problem, whether or not it finds it, I have no idea, but then I get the message that its reporting the behavior to Microsoft.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can correct this behavior?  I'll live with it if I have to, but I'd like to correct it if I can.
Thank you in advance for any assitance you can lend me.

Bummer. Are you using an administrator account when you log in? If not, try logging in as an administrator and see what happens. And, if you are not logged in as an admin, you might want to redo the steps above.
If that has been done or doesn't work, I personally would likely deactivate the installation, uninstall and reboot. Log in as an administrator and reinstall. Still opting to run the install as an admin as above.
Checking the present user privs.
Your preferences are  kept in the appdata folder. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator.
Click on the Start menu. type the following in the  search box anf then hit enter: %appdata%
That will open an instance of Windows Explorer with a list of all the folders available. At the top is Adobe. Inside the Adobe folder you will see  one for Illustrator. Well, you might see two of them. The one that is likely active is the 5.1 folder.
Right-click on the folder. Select Properties. You'll see some tabs along the top of the dialog box. Select the Security tab. Look at the list containing "Group or user names" you will see. Among the others, you should see System, your logged in account name,  one that makes little sense, and a Group name. See those?
Take care, Mike

  • Is there any way to use Illustrator (CS5) with Windows 8.1?

I'm in the middle of installing CS5 Design Premium on new machine (Win8.1) and see error beside Illustrator that the system requirements are not met.  Windows help site suggests CS5 and Win8.1 are compatible.  Surely there is some way to make these work together like the rest of my creative suite...?

Without exact system info we cannot know. There could be any number of reasons why it thinks it isn't compatible and generic "It's Windows 8.1" don't help.

  • Illustrator cs5 on windows 7 64bit SLOW and non responding.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU       Q 720  @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 6.00 GB
I am in the midst of a 7-day free trial at Lynda.com learning Illustrator.  My illustrator is so slow to respond open, save, any work in it.  Any minor change takes such a long time to process (including changing a fill color.....change C to 50, wait wait wait wait, then I can change y to 50 , wait wait wait wait ten I can change next color.)
    Impossible to work with
    What can I do?

I realise this post is a little old, but for those that stumble apon this looking for solutions or ideas for fixes here's my 2 cents,
I'm experiencing the same issues as described. I've tried a host of other fixes related to fonts, clearing AI cache, booting into safe mode to test, etc. So far the only thing that has brought AI back from comatose mode is turning off explorer. In Windows Task Manager, go to processes find explorer.exe and end task. WARNING: this will disable you Windows "window" interface as well as the windows startbar. You will need to use a third party dock software to easily navigate and use your PC. To turn explorer back on go to the applications window of the task manager (hit Ctrl + Alt + Del) click New Task and type "explorer.exe" in the "open" box and click OK. Please note that this suggestion is not a permanent fix but a work around for desparate times and perhaps a lead on a fix for someone trying to get to the bottom of this annoying issue.

  • Error when closing Photoshop CS5 Ext- Windows 7

This isn't a big issue, because at least it happens when I'm done with PS and not while I'm using it, but whenever I exit the program, whether by using the X in the corner or by using File->Close, I get an error afterwards saying "Adobe Photoshop CS5 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."
Is there anyway to stop this from happening, because it is rather annoying after a while.

    "Thank you for your support".
For what it's worth scratch what I said above about 12.0.1 fixing my own issues.  I'm occasionally seeing Photoshop hanging around after exiting; I just made another post on the subject myself.  Not seeing crashes at that point though.
I'll bet Chris Cox will find interesting your observation about being a user vs. administrator.
Photoshop may require write access to files or registry entries that would not necessarily be available to it if you're using the app as a different user than the account under which it was installed.  It will be very interesting to hear what the resolution to this is.  I believe I will create another user and try it to learn what it's trying to access.

  • Illustrator CS5 crashes after startup

    Illustrator CS5 (64Bit)
    Windows 7 64Bit
    on Notebook Dell m1530
Recently I have a critical problem with Illustrator CS5. Without any conscious actions, Illustrator crashes right after the splash screen. The application switches into the interface and then suddenly stops working without an error description. I did not change anything in the program. I'm assuming that the issue is related to the new update?
Please ADOBE help. I cannot start the program anymore
Tell we what informations you need and how I can get them.

If I'm starting the program in "Compatibility Mode" it runs. This seems like a workaround but not a real solution to the problem.

  • Illustrator CS5 font issue

I know this is a quirky issue, but I'm hoping someone can help me solve it.
I just bought Illustrator CS5 for Windows last week. Prior to installing it, I had a full set of Myriad Pro variations on my system. Those included Semibold Condensed and Semibold Condensed Italic, plus Semibold Black and Semibold Black Italic.
After installing Illustrator CS5 with its default settings, the four variations above were no longer on my system. Opening older files using them in Photoshop CS4 gave me an error message that the fonts weren't found.
I see that Illustrator CS5 came with some fonts, including some members of the Myriad Pro family - but not these 4.
I'm wondering what happened to my previous fonts. And I'm also wondering where I got them originally. I have Photoshop CS4, InDesign CS4, Dreamweaver CS4 and Acrobat 9 Pro all installed on my system. But I checked the discs for all of those and these 4 faces weren't on any of them. I know I didn't buy them separately. But I can't figure out where I got them so that I can reinstall them.
Does anyone who why they would have disappeared with the installation of Illustrator CS5? And do these 4 come standard with some Adobe program that I may have installed but haven't checked?
I know it's weird but it's making me crazy. I've used these quite often and have several existing files that need them.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I was thinking the same thing about the legitimacy of the fonts. These are just a single .otf file download. I don't see those files free anywhere else, so I'm thinking they're either knockoffs or illegal downloads. But the .otf file properties say "Authors Robert Slimbach and Carol Twombly. Copyright 2000 Adobe Systems, Inc. Myriad is a registered trademark of Adobe Systems." I'm just not going to take a chance. Probably turn my computer into a pumpkin!
Thanks to everyone for the help.
P.S. I mistyped the face names in the original message. They are actually Semibold Condensed and Semibold Condensed Italic, plus Black Condensed and Black Condensed Italic. Looks like they're available on Adobe's site.

  • I am trying to install adobe illustrator CS5 from cd but it will not install

When I install it the message 'installer has failed to initialize' appears. It then advises to download the Adobe Support Advisor. I have done this but the advisor will not respond (I have already installed Adobe Air). I have also successfully run the Adobe cleaner tool.
    Any help please?

Try downloading it and then run the installer.
    1. Navigate to Illustrator CS6 Downloads page : http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=illustrator
    2. Sign in with your Adobe ID.
    3. Copy and paste the following links on the address bar one at a time and hit enter :
    Adobe Illustrator CS5 English Windows
    http://trials2.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/ILST/15/win32/Illustrator_15_LS1.7z
    http://trials2.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/ILST/15/win32/Illustrator_15_LS1.exe
    4. Save both the files.
    5. Run the .exe file
In case you still face issues
Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and clean out the temporary files created during install in your temp directory. Additioanlly, check your task manager and terminate any instances of setup.exe and msiexec.exe that may still be running

  • Illustrator CS5 automatically switching monitors

    Hello,
I am running Illustrator CS5 on Windows 7 64 with dual monitors and my problem is that every time I open Illustrator it starts on the main monitor to the left.  All of the other CS5 applications remember where they start and stay there.  If I move Illustrator to the other monitor (right) and start a new file the application switches back to the other monitor automatically (left).  If I then switch it back (right) and start working it will automatically switch monitors again (left).  I have a Wacom tablet mapped to the monitor on my right and I can't seem to keep the application there.  Photoshop CS5, Fireworks CS5 and even Illustrator CS4 handle this fine and stay on my monitor to the right.  It has made it unusable if I need to to work with my tablet.  Please help.

Microsoft IntelliPoint 8.2 Mouse Software for Windows - 32 bit
Microsoft IntelliPoint 8.2 Mouse Software for Windows - 64 bit
Je n'ai pas fait de réglage particulier, le problème s'est résolu de lui-même après installation.
J'imagine que ça peut également régler le problème pour d'autres modèles de souris Microsoft.
Merci de vous être penché sur mon problème.

    charmi,
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Illustrator CS5 Error on Windows 7 64 bit, Uninstalled Illustrator CS5, Tried Re-Installing Illustrator CS5 on same pc new error

    Hi,
I have been using the Adobe Creative Suite CS5 for a few years and haven't had a problem.
Recently, illustrator just would not open would get to initializing illustrator.exe and stay there. I tried uninstalling illustrator in the hopes it would fix it with a reinstall.
I got the download file and when I tried to open in to reinstall, I get this error "The file archive part of Adobe Illustrator CS5 is missing. You need all parts in the same folder in order to extract Adobe Illustrator CS5. Please download all parts." I then tried to download the whole Creative Suite and same error message occurred. I am not sure what to do or if I should just uninstall the whole creative suite and start fresh (would rather not because I don't want to lose my preferences and presets).
    I am on Windows 7 64bit.
If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Uninstalls do not affect user-defined prefs and other custom files, but of course it may be a good idea to back everything up. A reinstall may be the only way to fix this. The error occurs because something else has introduced a flaky entry in the installer database and it goes looking for some file from a source that no longer is available. run the cleaner tool and reinstall everything after you have secured your prefs.

  • Illustrator CS5.1 Crashes on Exit in Windows 7

I've read as many forum posts as I can and I don't see anyone solving this issue yet.
When I close Illustrator, it either closes and immediately is followed by 2 windows errors saying "Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 has stopped working" right after each other, or it will freeze and I have to force close it to get it off the screen. Both methods are very annoying since I can't save my preferences and have a default workspace every time.
So after I tried the following, I reinstalled
Deleted the AIPrefs file, no change
Deleted the entire en_us folder, no change
Tried to change the permissions on en_us, but it is stuck in read-only. I can't figure out ANY way to change it in Windows 7. When I uncheck it, and look at properties again, it's still there.
    Tried to run as Administrator
Tried to change the owner of the en_us folder and files to Administrator
Tried linking and unlinking the network drive
Reinstalled, now I just get the windows error.
    What's going on now:
Since the reinstall, I am just getting the windows error messages, not the freezing on exit, but I'm sure that will be back in a day or two.
Also, I uninstalled a trial of CoCut Professional 2011, and even after the reinstall of Illustrator, it's still in the File > menu, how do I get rid of it completely?
Since the reinstall, none of the .ai files icons are showing any more, neither is the program icon in the taskbar...?
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I did try to uninstall some fonts that I downloaded at the same time I downloaded Illustrator, from Adobe's website, but I think they were all japanese and stuff so I didn't want them.
Thanks in advance, I'm open to ANYTHING. I wasted 4 hours with tech support, and they HUNG UP on me TWICE. Both times they had my phone number and did not attempt to call me back, I was furious and I'm not dealing with that crap again. The tech guy couldn't figure anything out and when he was stumped he conveniently hung up.

I am now at a point that in my original administrator account I have to Control Alt Delete to close Illustrator. Works fine in the new user though, who is not an Admin. How do i repair the permissions on my exiting account, I'd rather not have to create a new one and transfer everything over. On my Admin account I even have the program set to compatibility with Window 7 and "Run as admin".

  • Illustrator CS5 crashes on programmatically closing document.

    Hi,
I have developed a plugin in which I need to close an active document on click of a button. On clicking my plugin menu item a dialog opens with "Ok" and "Cancel" button. On clicking "Ok" button, the plugin will first close the active document and then will close the dialog and clicking on "Cancel" button will close the dialog.
My plugin works and closes the document and dialog but after few seconds or if I shift focus from Illustrator, the Illustrator crashes with the following message:
"Unhandled exception at 0Xbaadf00d in Illustrator.exe:0XC0000005:Access violation reading location 0Xbaadf00d".
I am using sAIDocList->Close() function to close the active document and EndModal function to close the dialog.
I am on windows Xp and using Illustrator Cs5 and Cs4.
Can someone please guide me on why the crash is occuring and how can I solve this crash??
    Thanks.

your best bet may be to try and solve the problem without finding the problem.
    uninstall illustrator cs5
    run the cleaner (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html)
    then reinstall illustrator cs5.
    update.

The software worked on the first day, problems appeared next day. I uninstalled and deleted the exe.file, then redownloaded and reinstalled but same problem persists.
I then downloaded and installed on my PC and everything works.
