Closing the UI Shell tabs

A good while ago there was some conversation about the problems with closing the UI Shell's tabs automatically when a task flow ended. We are experiencing the same thing when using a Task Flow Return. The task flow ends, but a blank tab remains.
From what I could gather, the workaround at the time was a modification of the template itself as in Chris Muir's post: https://forums.oracle.com/thread/997892
There was also a blog that, while it didn't explain the methods, provided a shell that does some interesting things: https://blogs.oracle.com/jheadstart/entry/core_adf11_uishell_with_dynamic
My question is this: Is one of the above options still the best one out there to close a tab when the task flow ends, or has anyone found a better way to do it?
Thank you.

Hi,
you don't have access to the tabs in the UI Tab Shell template unless you created your own version of the template. There is no close event exposed on the UI Shell API. What is it that you want to do in response to the close of a tab

You can still be easily block cookies in the current Firefox releases, either via a cookie block exception or by disabling cookies globally or via an extension that blocks content or cookies.
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab

  • While opening a pdf file in new tab, the rest tab's mouse scroll not works until closing the pdf file tab

I have noticed this problem in ff5 too. Suggest me is it a bug my machine or it came with it. If this issue is real i can provide more detail how often/ on what stages it happens.

There's a Bug filed about that issue.

  • FF always opens with the addons search tab as a 2nd tab.

After getting some new addons, I closed the addon search tab. But everytime I start FF now, the addon search results tab reappears as a 2nd tab. I can't start FF without that 2nd tab opening along with my homepage tab. How do I get it to not open when I start FF?

From the search page offered go to your chosen home page. Now move the mouse to the top left and scan the options for view, Toolbars and make sure that the "Menu bar" is ticked. This will show the File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks and tools options plus Help. Click on tools, then Options and select current page as your home page. All should now be sorted.

  • [DATA LOSS] I closed the Tab Groups and all my tabs dissapeared. How can I recover the tabs in Firefox 26? Would you please just delete this feature?

Thank-you in advance for reading all of this.
A slip of the mouse in trying to return to the left-most tab caused the tab groups feature to take over the window. I completely failed to comprehend what I was looking at and closed the thing by clicking the x because I damn sure didn't want what I was looking at. Undo close group? Of course not, I didn't want a group in the first place. Hey! My tabs are completely gone now! So in just a few steps all of which seemed innocent, I have lost all but ten of the tabs that were open, and those were only the most recent ten (and actually older tabs would have been more valueable than newer so insult on top of injury).
I don't think increasing the number of undoable tab closures is the answer. I think getting rid of the tab groups feature all together is the best way to go. I seem to have lost all the tabs I had open, irretrievably, and some of them had been open for WEEKS so they can't be reopened from history.
The tab groups feature is a data loss bug. Please remove it from the UX completely. If you have to figure out a way to grandfather people who actually have a tab group, fine but don't further vex me with it, please.
The reason this catastrophe has occurred is that your feature, was so discoverable that I activated it by mistake, and the UI after that had to be learned on the spot, yet was too complicated to learn. You really should withdraw it until you can figure out how to keep the UI for it from causing data loss such as I have experienced this morning.
Also, there may be other questions on this feature which are from a certain point of view the same as this one. It's hard for me to tell for sure. None of them had a true resolution so that's why I posted this one, also I'm seeking a specific fix, removal of the offending feature.
Why remove the feature? Because if I allow in my discussion the possibility of retaining it, it will stick around in its present and dangerous form until your team is done bikeshedding the new form it should take. Instead I want you to delete the feature and then require its champion to convince you that a new incarnation won't cause data loss before you allow it back in.
Fellow users, if you know of a way to recover all 50 lost tabs from an "undo close tab group incident", I would be grateful for that advice, but I would still believe the feature should be deleted. Some of the tabs have been retained for months so digging them out of the history is not practical.

I am not 100% certain but I am fairly sure development of this tab feature has ceased and it is likely to be deprecated. I am even less sure what the replacement will be.

I have not tried this and am not even using Windows at present but the tabs groups are stored as entries in the sessionstore.js files. Firefox has such a file plus sometimes numbered copies and a backup copy. Firefox will have re-writen these files but I suppose there is a posibility the Windows OS may have kept copies.

  • Unable to close home page tab or unable to close firefox by closing home page tab (when if that is the only last tab remaining in the browser

Recently I noticed that I could not close my browser by closing the last tab, which is nothing but home page tab. also noticed that when I open my browser and after opening many other tab if I want to close home page tab I could not close. If I closed it then I cant navigate or surf from that tab.
This may be due to some add-on causing trouble.
The problem does not arise in safe mode. Also if I group tab after closing, it is counted as tab but I cant open that particular tab.

  • When I close and reopen firefox, it restores my tabs, but it restores tabs from hours or days ago, not the ones that were open when I closed the window - why?

I normally keep my Firefox window open for long periods of time because I have a lot of active tabs. When I close the window and reopen it, I am still able to restore tabs, but as of a few weeks ago, it has stopped restoring the most recent version. Normally, when I would close and reopen, the tabs would be the same ones that were open when I closed the window. Now, it restores to a version from a few days ago instead of the current version. I have to revert to pulling my more recent tabs out of the recent history. I checked my options and I can't figure out any way to control this. How can I fix it so that I can count on my Firefox window to restore the tabs that I actually care about?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • How do I tell FiIrefox to only restore a sesson of more than one tab, and disregard the restore of a single tab session (ie. closing the browser)

I am on the beta channel of Firefox (currently 17.0, by the about window) and I cannot seem to find a way to limit the size of a browsing session that is automatically restored when re-opening the browser. In the past, Firefox would only save sessions of more than one tab when closing the entire application, and ask me about restoring said session when restarted. Now, Firefox seems to treat a session of just a single tab the same, which is a preference I dislike, given that I use a blank start page to great effect.
I am using a number of addons, including Tab Mix Plus, which specifically modifies tab behavior (although I have it configured to use Firefox's default session manager), but the problem persists even with all addons disabled.
I cannot seem to find an option in about:config to change this behavior. Is this a permanent change within Firefox, and if so, is there or will there be an option to specify the number of tabs that constitute a session that will be automatically saved?

Make sure that Firefox closes properly to prevent session restore from restoring a crashed session.

Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

  • How do I "save tabs and quit" in this new version of Firefox, as I did in the older version? I want to be able to see the same websites open from the last time I closed the computer.

In an earlier version of Firefox, when I went to close it, I would get a prompt "save tabs and quit?" that allowed me to see the same websites open from the last time I closed the computer. Where is that feature on the new version of Firefox?

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows or otherwise have problems with restoring tabs.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.

  • Is there a way to designate automatically returning to your homepage when closing other windows/files/tabs etc.? Could do it on the Mini, but haven't found magic spell for new iMac. Thanks!

Is there a way to automatically return to homepage after closing other windows/files/tabs etc.? Was able to do this on Mini, but have been unable to find setting to do it on new iMac. Thanks in advance!

If you were able to do it on the Mini  you should be able to on an iMac, they use the same versions of OS X. You just have to recall how you set it up.

  • Is there a way to close a pinned tab without unpinning it or closing the browser completely?

when i have one of my pinned tabs opened and i open a new tab, i cant find a way to close the pinned tab without closing the browser completly.

    thanks.

You can also middle-click a tab to close that tab and that also works for pinned tabs.

  • In ff 36 when siging out of a website another tab opens instead of closing the current tab

When I updated to V.36 this action started . With certain websites when I try to sign out instead of the webpage closing, a new tab opens and the home page of the same website opens. The original tab is still open with my account information still logged on and the only way to log off is to click the X on the Tab.
The problem disappears when I uninstalled Tab Mix Plus. This issue did not happen in the earlier version of FF and I always used Tab Mix Plus with the previous versions.

Instead of closing the tab where you logged out, what if you reload it using Command+r (or the reload button in the address bar). Does it show that you are properly logged out at that point?
My guess is that the site is sending a redirect after logout and somehow that is getting diverted to a new tab for some reason instead of loading in the same tab. I don't have any good guess as to why that would happen. You might pose this question on the Tab Mix Plus support forum to see whether it's a setting you can change or a compatibility issue with Fx36:

Hey thanx for the help, it worked like a charm.
I think firefox changed the application lay out, as I used to be able to choose my PDF opener from the list at " Adobe Acrobat Forms Document' where I could choose Nitro-PDF reader, but it has now moved all the way to the bottom like you suggested to the obvious place of "Portable Document Format" section.
If someone didn't tell me , I wouldn't have scrolled all the way down to be able to find it... it really should be with all its cousins up the top...
    Cheers again..

  • When a PDF is opened in a tab, my laptop's touchpad scroll stops working for other tabs. (But works perfectly fine on the pdf tab or with every tab after closing the pdf tab)

My touchpad scroll was not working many times after i installed firefox 6. But it works perfectly fine in other browsers at the same time.
After some playing around, i found that this problem occurs only when a pdf is open in some tab (The scrolling works in pdf's tab but not in other tabs). Once that particular tab is closed, the scrolling starts working properly.

Using similar scroll function on my netbook. To add to the above, I find that using scroll is actually causing the PDF to scroll rather than the tab I'm actually in.
Reader 9 is installed on my Win7 Starter.

  • In Firefox 29 center clicking at the top of a tab in a maximized window will open a previously closed tab instead of closing the tab you clicked

In Firefox 29 center clicking at the top of a tab in a maximized window will open a previously closed tab instead of closing the tab you clicked.
Is this this the intended behavior? And if so is there any way to disable it?
    Thanks

Middle-clicking a tab closes it, while middle-clicking an empty area of the tab bar opens a new tab.
Different behavior is probably caused by a tab-related add-on like Tab Mix Plus. If you're not sure if you have such an add-on, restart Firefox with add-ons disabled and check if the problem still occurs.
