It would be helpful to let us know your phones model. In the meantime, to close applications on an N8 running Anna you simply long press on the menu button to open the task manager and tap on the cross on the top right of the app you want to close or long press in one of the windows and tap close all to shut down all running apps.

My iPad mini won't update my apps.  I have closed all open apps and done multiple resets.  I hit update and the screen is blank, even though the bubble shows 14 to update.

If you are getting the blank app update screen, many people are having this problem over the last couple of days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this. It is a workaround only until then.

I selected "update all" to update my apps, entered my ID and they all went to "waiting" and none of them started updating. Tried shutting down (several times), it was plugged in, I closed all open apps...tried uninstalling and reinstalling 1 app and it still is waiting? Thoughts?

See if any of these suggestions help you. They have worked for others in the past but YMMV.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • Lock screen closing every open apps..i

    HI
i have an iphone 5s and ipad 3
when i lock my i device or they automatically lock ,evey open apps will closed!!!!
    what 's happen!!!??
    how can i fix it??!!

    Hey there Artisansdjj,
It sounds like your iPad is minimizing or closing any app that was open before you put it to sleep with the Smart Cover, or the Sleep/Wake button. I would start by quitting all the running apps:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Closing the open apps

I recently downloaded the 7.1 software on my 4S Iphone. How do I close open apps? On the previous software, I would touch the top left corner of the app until a red and white minus sign appeared and then touch it again to delete it. I need to close the apps to preserve power.

Double click the home button and when the app switcher comes up swipe up on the app preview
    Hope this helps

CS1 is not supported in Leopard if you had it working at some point you were lucky. Adobe does not plan on updating CS as it is an old version. Keep in mind that CS1 is now the last version that can be updated to CS4 now that Adobe has a 3 version update window. At the beginning of March Adobe will start tiered pricing and CS1 and CS2 will cost $200 more that you can upgrade to day. As soon as CS5 is released you will no longer be in the upgrade path and will need to pay full price for the CS5 creative suite.
If you want to continue to use Leopard then it would be best for you to upgrade to CS4. If you will never need to upgrade then it would be best to downgrade your system to Tiger by either restoring from a backup of Tiger you made before your system upgrade or wiping the drive and installing Tiger fresh. You can't Downgrade the Leopard with Tiger as you could with previous systems.

  • Open Apps are sideways

Hi, I wondered if anyone else has had this happen to their iPhone...
When I double click the home button to view my Apps that are open on my iPhone they display sideways, like landscape orientation (see image below).
Why has this happened and how can I change it back to the correct orientation again? BTW my iPhone is not jailbroken or anything and is up to date with the latest software. Thanks.

Am I correct in assuming you were not holding your phone in landscape orientation when you took the screen shot?
Try closing all open apps, then reset the phone by pressing & holding the home and sleep/wake buttons until the screen goes dark. Release the buttons & power up the phone again.
Open a few apps and see if they show up with the proper orientation.

  • Having issues with my MacBook. Even when the internet is disconnected, apps are still closing and opening on their own. I sometimes do not have control over my cursor.....any suggestions?

Having issues with my MacBook. Even when the internet is disconnected, apps are still closing and opening on their own. I sometimes do not have control over my cursor.....any suggestions?

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not be apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    3. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    6. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    7. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and the unit needs to be serviced or replaced.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Can not open app store in iPad 3

why I can not open app store in iPad 3

IF you get app update notifications, are you able to use the App Store from the Updates Tab? Try closing the App Store and reset your iPad. You will not lose any data.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How do I close a numbers document without closing the entire app?

Can anyone tell me how I can close a numbers document without closing the entire app? i.e. go back to the folders display page - is this even possible?

It is not a bug, but a new feature.<br />
Some menu entries in the main menu bar are hidden if you use the mouse and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu (Bug 626825).
You can see the difference if you use Alt+F to open the File menu or other menus like the Edit menu (Alt+E) and Bookmarks menu (Alt+B) and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by tapping Alt or by pressing F10.

  • [Forum FAQ] Go to Start Screen/Desktop when closing Windows Store App

After install Windows 8.1 Update 1, you will notice these things set by default even on touchscreen laptops and desktops:
Windows 8.1 now boots directly to the desktop.
Closing Windows Store Apps and go to desktop instead of Start Screen.
Besides option “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” since Windows 8, another new option in Taskbar Properties “Show Windows Store app on taskbar” is used to control closing app behavior.
Features of "Show Windows Store app on taskbar"
When the setting is checked, all of the Windows Store apps that are currently running will display on taskbar. You can easily switch between Windows Store apps and your desktop and its applications through the taskbar. For mouse users,
you can also access the taskbar within a Windows Store app. Just move the mouse cursor to the button of the screen, the taskbar pops up.
    When the setting is unchecked,
Windows Store apps have no minimize button, only Close button
Windows Store apps that are open are not visible on Taskbar
Windows Store apps can still be pinned to the taskbar
How do these two options work for closing app behavior?
    Modern app and Taskbar   setting
    OFF
    ON
    Boot   to desktop setting
    OFF
    Close goes to Start
Close reveals the   app that was previously used, and eventually dead ends at the Desktop
    ON
    Close goes to desktop
Close reveals the   app that was previously used, and eventually dead ends at the Desktop
Know why “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” does not work when “Show Windows Store app on taskbar” is checked on
    As MironV mentioned in the
thread, Windows 8.1 Update is designed to introduce a number of changes for mouse and keyboard users that would help them use and switch between Windows Store apps alongside their familiar desktop applications. A lot of these changes only made sense when
combined together, so they are toggled by one setting, which is “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar.” This is usually enabled together with the first setting as a complimentary set of improvements for desktop users. When the setting is enabled, Windows
Store apps are intended to feel more like regular maximized applications living on the desktop, though they are full screen only. For example, when you launch apps from Start, they appear on the taskbar until they are closed. You can also minimize them or
switch between them by invoking the taskbar.
Please understand that unchecking the “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" setting has no effect on close and minimize behavior when the “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar” setting is checked, since
they are controlling two independent things. If you tend to use only one Windows Store app at a given time, it may seem like we’re not respecting the setting by going to the desktop.
Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but on my desktop (using mouse and keyboard only) I like to have my Start screen as my main screen.  To ensure this I made sure to uncheck the "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop" box and
check the "Show Start on the display I'm using when I press the Windows Logo key" box. I also really like having the task bar appear at the bottom even when I'm using a modern app.  Based on the settings I've chosen (i.e., boxes I've checked or not checked),
I would expect to be taken back to the start screen and not the desktop whenever I close an app.  From what I've read from your response and from others in this thread, in order to accomplish this function (i.e., closing an app and going directly to the
start screen) I need to uncheck the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" setting.  By doing this I get the functionality I was looking for when the apps are closed and I get sent to the start screen.  However, I am now not able to see the taskbar
when I'm in a modern app or when I'm on the start screen.  This seems counterintuitive/confusing as many have mentioned.  Not to mention it creates an additional step for users to get back to the Start screen.
All I want to do is (1) use my start screen as my main screen, (2) see the taskbar when running whatever app I'm using (e.g., modern), and (3) go back to my start screen (and not the desktop) when I close an app.  It would only make sense that I should
get these results if I leave the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" box checked and the "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" box unchecked; but unfortunately this is NOT the case.  I really hope that
an update fixing this is coming sooner rather than later because this is really annoying.

  • My Ipad 2 will not open apps that I have download from the app store but will open apps that came preinstalled.

My IPAD 2 will some times not open apps that I have down load from the app store. But will open all of the preinstalled apps.I must go to the app store and install something and then all the apps will open. I should not have to install unwanted apps to keep my IPad working.I have reset and total reset nothing sames to work.

Sounds to me like you may have an issue with the firmware, i.e. the iOS version that you are runing.  I also have an iPad 2  and sometimes have to restart it to get it to recognize and run a newly downloaded app.  And only once or twice have I had to uninstall and redownload an app that this didn't fix. I think this has more to do with the way an app has been coded more than anything else.
You might try doing a "Reset All Settings" reset and set it up as a new iPad.  You should not lose any data, apps, music, videos, etc. that you have stored on your device.  I have done this a few times when tweaking the iOS 5.0.1 firmware and never lost anything.  You do have to re-enter your ID's and Passwords for wifi.  And of course you will need to go back into settings and reset any changes you may have made to things like location and notifications.
I don't know if this will work, but if I was in your place this is the next step that I would take.

  • I want to know HOW to CLOSE Multiple Open Apps at ONCE. I keep mistakenly opening lots of things at one time.

I want to know HOW to CLOSE Multiple Open Apps at ONCE. If I have many apps going at one time and want to stop fast, surely there is a way to hit like(alt-F4 in Windows) and BAM! They all go down. I need a feature like that...

Alt+F4 in Windows only closes the active program.
Command+Q does the same thing for Mac. Just keep hitting that key combo untill all are closed.
