Cloud backup gone wrong

My ipad Mini had the be restored after it put itself in recovery mode but when I went to get my apps and music from the cloud, which was backed up the night before, an error message came on told me there was something wrong with my last backup. So when it finally backed up it loaded things from August and nothing resent. It is also telling me I have not purchased apps, with is very wrong because I have spent a ton of money in the app store. Please help. Thank you.

If your most recent backup is corrupt, you won't be able to restore it. You can still download your purchased apps and other media as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.

Hi, my brother in-law was backing up his Macbook (OS X 10.7.5) videos to a seagate eternal hard drive and I managed to accidentally knock it and disconnect it during the process. Some of the videos were still on the computer but some got deleted. is there any way to recover these files??

It sounds like the files are gone. In the future if something is important, have it backed up in more than one place.
If you don't have a clone backup it's time to start. Just like a seat belt and an air bag protect you in different ways when driving, you need both Time Machine and a clone for full protection.
Storing files "in the Cloud" is also helpful. I like DropBox, but there are other services like Microsoft's OneDrive, box.com etc that are helpful. I like DropBox because it allows you to upload files larger than 2GB.

Backup gone wrong

I had to restore iTunes from backup over the weekend. My PC had to be reformatted, but I backup everything to an external HD.
So I have restored, and tried all the steps in the KB article about getting your library back up and running. Unfortunately, when I try to load from my last ITL file, I get 'Library was created with a newer version of iTunes'. Ugh.
Anyway, I was able to get all my playlists loaded by importing the XML file, which worked. One playlist however, is Music-my previous library, in a pristine state.
Is there any way to dump the library that got restored and just use the one that is now in a playlist?
The reason this matters is my backup software automagically backed up my library-however, I often deleted songs or albums that I no longer cared for, and now EVERYTHING is back in iTunes.

If so, your backup should still be there as you can sync as many devices as you want to the same computer & itunes account and itunes will keep everything straight by device. In other words, his backup should not have overwritten yours. When your phone is connected, itunes running, under devices in the preference pane, the backup shown should be yours.

Iphone backup GONE WRONG!

I restored my iphone (also backed it up) and my brother did it again. the reason why i restored it was because i am switching my iphone into a new iphone. now i lost everything that was backed up! is there a way to go back in time?

Cloud backup restored photos and documnets to the wrong folder and all in one folder

I used the cloud backup to backup and restore my photos and documents because I was told to fix my problem I would have to do a hard reset. When I restored the photos and documents they were all restored to the wrong place and all in one folder. Please help. Is there any way to fix this or is their cloud backup program just stupid and I am screwed?

Let's get to the bottom of this and get your pictures and documents backed up correctly. What phone do you have? Did you restore every all at once? Try removing the files and doing the restore again. Did you do the restore from the phone or desktop app?

Yes, that's a bit misleading. It just means that will be done, if it's required, which it isn't on your backups.
I have no idea if anything actually was changed however just when I had given up and walked away, TM has started working after a week of failing.
It probably did find and fix something. Just for reference, Disk Utiltiy usually shows the progress and repair messages in the center part of the window, but often doesn't when repairing a sparse bundle on a network. You can see the messages at any time by clicking the Log icon in the toolbar, or select Window > Show Log from the menubar.

I would either say that the iOS is correpted due to a software glitch or y have have a hardware problem like bad memory locations that are corrupting the iOS.
- Restore from backup via iTunes. This will install a fresh copy of the iOS. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.   This will elimate corruptin in the backup causing the problem.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

IPad Cloud Backup not found

I have been using a school purchased iPad for a few months, using my own private account, and have enjoyed it so much that I just bought my own. Had to return the school's first, but did a complete cloud backup with it. Double checked it - it completely backed up, had plenty of memory left, and everything was fine. So I did a factory reset on that device and turned it in. Got my new iPad today, signed in and selected iPad Cloud Restore from backup, and it tells me there is not a cloud backup for my account. Seriously? The two iPads were identical in their specs also.
What do I have to do? This should be a piece of cake, but clearly something is messed up here. Do I have to remove that old iPad (disassociate it from my apple ID) first (using manage devices in itunes?) - that seems like it might be risky and might get rid of the cloud backup if it's still there somewhere.

Wasn't using a mobile device to access me.com, or Safari. I am using the *same* ID/password that my iPad was using - the same one (the only one I've ever had) on iTunes too. I am 100% sure it backed it up - it completed the iCloud initial backup process without an error message, then I went back later in the day and looked at "Last backed up: 8:37am", which was the time I completed the backup process. I checked the amount of space the backup consumed, and it wasn't much, but was something like half a gigabyte, leaving me with about 4.5gb of iCloud storage space remaining. All of it seemed to be extremely indicative of actually backing up the iPad. So at that point, instead of backing up a second time, I went ahead with the factory reset on the device and turned it back into the school when that was done.
Now I am getting no other options on this brand new (bought from Apple.com) iPad to restore from iCloud backup. This blasted me.com message is all I see. I tried entering in a wrong email into the login/password, and the error message came up there (where it did not give an error message when I logged in with the correct login/password), which seems to tell me the login/password are not the problem.
This is really enfuriating. I followed apple's rules for using iCloud as a backup, bought a brand new product of theirs, and now none of it is working and I seem to be at risk of losing my backed up photos and programs and settings from the old iPad. Really not pleased with this purchase at this point and need more help. Is there an official place I can call or go besides here?

Upgrade: Tiger to Snow leopard gone wrong...

I am trying to upgrade my iMac from Tiger (latest version) to Snow Leopard with the box set. The upgrade goes as far as completing the loading of Snow, but then the rainbow pinwheel of infinity starts spinning in a blank screen, and nothing further happens.
I called the tech line and was told to erase my HD and start from scratch (the tech was obviously not very interested in trying to solve the problem rather than giving me a quick fix). I don't WANT to do that - defeats the purpose of an UPGRADE. If I did, I would have stayed with a PC. Where's the wonderful Apple superiority???
I made a backup with the backup program in Tiger (the umbrella-icon program), but am not sure it has everything I need and want, and even if it does, will it load in Leopard? The tech said I could reload Tiger and yada yada yada, with no real intention of helping me through the process. He was NOT very helpful at all (my first bad experience with an Apple tech).
So, currently my iMac is down for the count. Any ideas as to why SL wouldn't load completely or run? Would having a printer and an Airport hooked up mess things up? And any suggestions as to what I do now (other than track down someone at Apple to scream at and demand a refund)?

Rita, there are a bazillion things that could have gone wrong and maybe the AppleCare tech was just interested in getting you off the phone with the easiest and quickest solution. Then again, if/when we finally get this sorted out you may wish you had done exactly that Having performed hundreds of upgrades (no exaggeration, I'm a tech) I've not seen too many failures and those that have been brought to me typically involved outdated software that crashed the system, various hardware issues, and software still installed that should have been removed (so called haxies).
Since I wasn't there to watch SL install I'm going to assume for the moment that it installed normally. Restart your computer and then immediately hold down the left shift key. This is a safe boot. The three main things that Safe Boot will do is to perform a directory check of your hard drive, erase some cache files (which might be the cause of your problem), and it will not load some drivers and non-Apple startup items (which also might be the cause). (If you don't have automatic log-in turned on, after you select your account and type in your password press the shift key again so the startup items won't load.) Safe Boot isn't a normal startup so don't be surprised that you cannot go online, print, or do some other things. This is for diagnostics only.
If your computer successfully gets to the Finder, immediately restart as normal and see what happens. If it beachballs again, restart in safe mode and once it gets to the Finder, open the System Preferences and remove all the startup items from your account because one of them may be the problem. Then try restarting again.
Your backup program is Backup (which version I don't know) and I think it was part of the MobileMe package. It isn't the best backup solution in the world but it does save the important data.

Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. My laptop is new and has plenty of RAM and HDD. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped working and does not work when I re-load Firefox 3.6. Also IE8 now works very slowly and does not locate major websites like Microsoft without a 'can't find the website message' and having to pressing Return a second time. When I do get to the Mozilla website and click on the button to try to download Firefox 3.6.6, I get this message "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find mozilla3.snt.utwente.nl". Can you help with what has gone wrong? As it stands, I can't use Firefox at all. Note: because Firefox did not work after the upgrade, I've downloaded the IE8 version of the Adobe Flash 10.1. What I really want is to be able to use both Firefox and IE8. But is this possible if they use different versions of Adobe Flash?

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process:
0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins.
Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!

Gnome won't start: Oh no! Something has gone wrong.

after a week holyday i installed all new updates on my Notebook (Asus UX31). During shutdown it freezed and i had to switch off the Notebook. Now if i start i can login with Slim and than gnome starts with an error display: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occured and the system can't recover. All extensions have been disabled as precaution." I can klick on a Log Out Button but if i log in again, the same is happening. It's funny that there appear reminders from evolution and the dialog to unlock the keyring.
Any suggestions?

Meanwhile i found out that tracker could be the source of this problem. If not, tracker has a problem. first i tried to reinstall tracker, output was a lot of lines with:
tracker: /usr/share/ tracker-concerning-files exist in filesystem
then i deinstalled it. now when i want to install it, a similar output like obove comes.
