If I listen to cloud music without being connected to Wi-Fi (Ie 3g) on my iphone, does it cost or come out of my data allowance?

You would have to download the music from icloud to your iphone in order to listen.
Downloading the music would indeed use data.

I have found that many times it is the things that make you most angry that push you to action. This was the case here. Thank you for causing me to get so angry that I found the answer myself.

My iTunes has cloud music only?! Playlists gone?!

I was listing to music about 30 mins ago, then closed iTunes and now just opened it again and all my playlists are gone and all thats in my music is cloud music which totals about 5 GB's but my iTunes folder in my music is 35gbs which is what it should be.
What the **** has gone wrong?

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any scanning process.

My old PC died. I authorized my new PC. All the cloud music is now on it and plays. Tried to sync with my IPOD CLASSIC. Asked me if I want to erasesons I said yes. Now I cant get my new pc to load songs to my IPOD or burn a CD.

My old PC died, I got a new windows 7 pc. I authorized new pc, The cloud music plays. Connect IPOD CLASSIC, asked me to erase or load I hit erase. Now I cant sync any songs to my IPOD nor can I burn a CD from a play list. Help I have no clue how to load my library to my IPOD.

What happens when you try to sync your iPod Classic with your iTunes library? Any error messages? If so, what is the exact wording of these error messages?
Does the iPod appear under Devices in the left hand pane of iTunes?

Playing the cloud music on main computer

Here is the thing
I subscribed to the cloud, my music library which I keep on a seperate hard drive (with the main itunes being on my macbook pro), was uploaded to the cloud.
Now here is the thing. Is it possible to play the cloud music on my macbook?
when I try to play music without plugging in external drive it does not work. as it expects to look at the drive for the trax
would I have to delete my music from the macbook to access the trax from the cloud? an

How can I get just my non-cloud music from my external backup?

I have my music collection (the entire iTunes folder) stored on an external drive. I did a fresh install of OS X Lion and I like that all of my music lives in the cloud, but I know there are files currently on my external drive that I would like to have added to my current iTunes Library. What is the easiest way for me to identify and retrieve those files without having to copy over the entire iTunes Media folder?

Why not just look at the folders and files on the external HDD and use the "add to iTunes" command in the file menu?

HT203164 Problems with "cloud" music and burning CDs

I moved my iTunes library to a new computer & now the majority of songs will not burn to CD. It says they are stored in the cloud & cannot be burned from there.There is a cloud next to songs in my music list. I did not subscibe to Match or Cloud and yet I am prevented from burning CDs as I have in the past. Seems like every time I download an updated iTunes, it is more complicated and cofusing than the last. Apple custermer service is no help, as you cannot contact them via email and then only if you have a valid serial number for a product.
How do I burn CDs from the new iTunes that has Cloud blocking it.

Turn off cloud music in genius

After upgrading to iTunes 11, Genius Mixes began using music in the cloud, instead of just the music on my laptop. The reason I don't have music on my laptop is because I don't want to listen to it, but I'm not willing to delete it form the cloud (just in case). Is there any way to turn off music in the cloud for iTunes Genius Mixes?

Move your cursor over the bottom of the slideshow as it's playing and the tool bar will appear:
Clicking on the Music button will bring up the music options where you can set NO music to be played. If you save the settings then they will apply to that album or event that you started the slideshow from.
If you start a slideshow from a different album or event you'll have to repeat the steps above.

ITunes 11 merges my libraries and imports "cloud" music that I never downloaded or searched for?

I have over 600 albums. I created and manage four separate libraries to help me sort my music in top-level ways that iTunes just doesn't allow (example, one library is just for streams that I have ripped, and omg, live recordings. Who does that anymore?) Now that I'm in iTunes 11, the user interface is mixing them all together in the same display! This totally defeats my preference of browsing libraries by my custom sorting. No use with the "genre" tags- iTunes never tagged half this stuff correctly to begin with, so this sort option is useless 50% of the time anyway. What am I supposed to do, go through 600 albums and retag each one individually? FRUSTRATING!
Furthermore, there are new files that seem to have come off "the cloud" that I NEVER DOWNLOADED and these files/songs are littered everywhere across my libraries like little mouse droppings.
How much time do I have to waste on my part to reverse-engineer this? I'm looking through all these discussions, and the "solutions" people have for these iTunes "workarounds" are getting worse than similar "workarounds" for Windows problems!!
Should I revert to iTunes 10?
Should I just dump iTunes entirely? (Believe me I've been thinking about it. All my music is stored separately in original format files. I have never trusted iTunes to manage my music, I only use it for the interface.)

For anyone who hits this thread: Hit view, then "hide music in the cloud." Your libraries will return to how you have built them.
Kelly, your music is still probably on your hard drive. The iCloud is just a cute techy way of saying that you have online access to things you've purchased from apple... just wait until they make it so that you ONLY have online access to your purchases, and nothing ever comes "off" the cloud for you to tangibly own.
Folks, this is a smoke and mirrors gimmick to make you buy-in to the itunes store. Let Apple manage, deliver, and DECIDE all the content that you will see. It's at least one degree more insiduous than corporate radio.
Kudos on the crisp interface and larger album cover displays, but...
Apple cannot find cover art for 1/3 of the library that I have built. That is because Apple does not carry that music. Apple will never host music from ancient vinyl that I have remastered, Apple will never host the shows of obscure electronica djs or the local bluegrass bands that put out EPs in the western US in the 80s. If you restrict your music experience to a single venue, you are not only missing out, but you are supporting an economic model which quashes music that does "not meet industry standards." Have fun with iTunes 11 kids.

I keep getting this message in my iTunes on my iMac.
this computer is already associated with an apple ID
Everything I have lookedup says I need to wait 83 days. I'm not understanding why this is the case. I have an iMac, an iPad and iPhone 5; all are on the same apple ID/itunes/appstore ID. My wife has a logon into the iMac with her own apple ID which she uses on her ipad and her iphone. Why when I am logged into my user name on the iMac does it not let me have access to my cloud purchases? I purchased songs today, they're showing in iTunes on my cloud; yet will not let me download... but i can play them on my iphone...
I get fighting piracy but this is driving me insane....

I even just hooked up my iphone to the imac to sync up after not having done so in a while; and when i click on the music it says syncing will delete my phone music and sync with 13 songs on the imac... yet my iphone has tons of music ive bought through itunes. no idea why they are not talking to eachother with the same logon ids...

I have iTunes mach enabled and allow music to be brought in from the cloud to my phone. As a result the I am seeing music that I never downloaded or manually added to itunes via ripping from a CD or other sources. Furthermore, the music only shows up on my phone , but not on my computer. Any thoughts?

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Cloud music download issue

how can i download only "checked" songs from the cloud without going line by line since I don't want ALL songs? I have a new computer and there are many songs, some of which I don't want on my new pc. Too many to click on each line or delete if I download all. I already had to go through and "uncheck" the ones I don't want. Is there a simple way?

If you mean from your iTunes Match account, click the check heading at the top of your song list to sort the music by whether or not it's checked (see image below). Then select all the checked songs (click the first, then shift-click the last), then right-click on the selection and choose "download".

ITunes and cloud music on the iPad

I have music in iTunes and the cloud that I don't want on my iPad. Is there a way to pick and choose what I want on my iPad? On my iPod, I plug in and choose the playlists I want. If I delete from the iPad will it delete from the cloud and iTunes?

No, deleting tracks from the iPad will have not effect on what is available in the cloud and in iTunes. Also, you can choose to sync the iPad the same way you sync the iPod.
