Cloud v Perpetual Licenses

I installed the Adobe Application Manager on a machine but to the best of my knowledge I did not actually install any of the apps. I think it was the early days of Creative Cloud and I was just looking to see how it worked.
If I open AAM, it shows Illustrator as having an Update but I am 99% certain that app was installed as part of Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4 rather than using the Creative Cloud licence.
How can I tell whether an app has been installed as part of Creative Cloud or under a Perpetual Licence please?
I do see that in the Help menu for Illustrator there is an option to Complete/Update Adobe ID Profile. Is that a clue?
My main objective is to ensure that the Creative Cloud licence is not used on any of the machines except one. There must be some way of knowing what machines are using what licences.

Hi Peter,
The Adobe Application Manager was being used before Creative Cloud but just wasn't directly accessible to users. It is used for installing updates for both retail and subscription products. The desktop shortcut can be removed (just the shortcut itself) as Help > Updates can still be used to initiate it without the shortcut. It doesn't have a separate uninstaller in Programs and Features because it is required for all CS6 products. When you uninstall all CS6 apps it gets uninstalled automatically. It works similar to Bridge CS6 (gets installed/uninstalled along with other programs and doesn't have a separate way to be removed individually).
Technically it is possible to remove the Adobe Application Manager by itself using the Adobe cleaner tool, but this would only be needed in edge case scenarios, like it was damaged or didn't install correctly, as it would still get reinstalled automatically when applying updates.
Hope that helps,
-Dave

No. No effect at all. You will still be the proud owner of CS3, 5 and 6 and can still use them whenever you like.

No need to store anything in the Cloud at all if you don't want to. I don't.
I store all my photos locally when using CC.

I have Lightroom 4 and want to upgrade Lightroom 5 with a perpetual license, without buying creative cloud. Please how to do ? Thanks

Or wait a few weeks and get LR6, maybe?   We’re up to LR 5.7 and there’s never been a LR somethingxzxz.8 so it would make sense that the next version is a payfor upgrade, again, with some sort of improvements and new features over LR 5.  This suggestion assumes LR6 will be available as a perpetual license as an upgrade to LR 4, which I would expect, but you never know.

  • Reverting from Creative Cloud Membership back to perpetual license?

Will Creative Cloud subscribers have the option to purchase a CS7 perpetual license upgrade if they find they no longer wish to pay a monthly subscription?

I would also like to have this answered.
So far, I'm not entirely satisfied with Creative Cloud.
I know its too early to tell and there's a lot of room to improve, and I would like to think that Adobe will continue to polish it, but when you depend on their tools to make a living, I just cannot hold the idea that a server problem, some glitch on their end or something totally unexpected can render the apps unusable (just have a look at this forums and all the problems with activations and one issue with a sudden deactivation). I know that the software-as-a-service (SaaS) is a trend that is here to stay (and grow), but I think there's still a lot of ironing and things to fix to us costumers to really adopt it.
Although I took the introductory offer for current customers (yes, I decided to give Adobe the chance), after seeing how the "opening weekend" went, I've been thinking to upgrade my copy of CS 5.5 to a pereptual CS6 (or CS7) license before the suscription ends... I would like to think of it as an "insurance policy" for a worst case scenario: a failure on Adobe´s end on a tight deadline (Murphy's Law, anyone?). However, if what the sales rep told Stipple3D it's true, I'll be more than happy to "return" my Creative Cloud subscription during the 30-days "grace period" and go the usual way.
While I understand (and somewhat agree) that first-time CC costumers are not eligible for an "exit-route" from it, I really believe that loyal users of Adobe, the ones that have been paying them for each release, should always have an exit-route if their interests and satisfaction are not totally meet by Creative Cloud.
Hope we receive a coherent and respectful reply soon...

  • Lightroom 5 Perpetual License with Creative Cloud Membership

I own Lightroom 5 perpetual license and I also have Creative Cloud membership with Photoshop CC. For the latest Lightroom 5.6 updates, I tried to update within Lightroom, but a page shows up and ask me to do it thru Creative Cloud application. Once I update Lightroom thru Creative Cloud, I noticed that my license type becomes Creative Cloud which never shows in System Info in version 5.5 (I am using Mac). The Serial Number in System Info still remain the same. In such case, I am wondering if the Lightroom's Develop Module will be disabled if I cease the Creative Cloud membership.
    Please help, thanks!
    HHL

No, you won't lose anything. Your catalog, and preferences, and previews, will all remain in place. Just do it. I did it a couple of days ago and it was very straightforward and painless. My Nik plug-ins were still in place as well as a printer plug-in that came with my printer. The installer put an icon on my desktop. I expected to have to locate my catalog. Didn't even have to do that. Lightroom started and took me to right where I left off, everything still in place.

  • CS6 Perpetual License Only - so why a Creative Cloud Directory

As the title mentions I am running CS6 with a perpetual license. Have never signed up for the CC version or any other product.
So was a little surprised when trolling through my directories - bored sitting on a conference call - I discovered a Creative Cloud directory in the x86 file structure for Photoshop CS6. The directory is empty and it has the creation date of the last CS6 update. Now I did have problems getting the update installed took multiple tries and really not convinced it really took - but it works fine after a manual download. The thought that ran through my mind was the Adobe Installation Manager was messed up (not the first time) and really was trying to install the a CC version update. Hence the Creative Cloud Directory.  So is the normal?
By the way the Creative Cloud directory does not show up in the x64 bit version
    mike

You could be right - and if that is the case raises more questions and an ethics concern.
The question would be - why only the x86 version and not the x64 version - which leads me down the path to believe that the Adobe Installation Manager is the culprit.
But if true that the versions of CS6 and the Cloud version are the same with not only features being unlocked by the product key but also bug fixes - and this could lead one to believe that Adobe was using bug fixes as well as new features as an incentive to move to their subscription model - while new features are an OK incentive - bug resolution, in my mind, is not an ethical way of doing business, and I am sure Adobe's Cloud plan would not stoop that low

  • Lightroom 5 available as free download for Creative Cloud members, and as a perpetual license

I was told that Lightroom 5 is now available as free download for Creative Cloud members, and as a perpetual license. How do I take advantage of this? I have creative cloud, and lightroom 4, but I dont know how to get the perpetual license.  I am also a student.

    Hi,
You dont need perpetual license. Creative cloud membership entitles you to get Lightroom 5. Please do check that you meet the the system requirements of Lightroom: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html. If you don't have Creative cloud Membership, you can get the perpetual licence/subscription of Lightroom 5 from the link I just gave.

  • I installed Acrobat XI through the Creative Cloud and without notice it remove my perpetual license of Acrobat 10 Pro and LiveCycle Designer.

It all worked okay when I had Acrobat 10 and 11 installed from perpetual licenses, it's only when Creative Cloud got into the mix.  Anyone find a way to keep Creative Cloud from breaking this?

Thanks for the explanation Sabian, now can you share with me how I can get Creative Cloud to do a custom install so I can keep it from removing LiveCycle Designer and Acrobat 10.  When I installed it from CDs I had no problem & got everything to work just right.  I don't really care if it's supported by Adobe or not I just need it to work.

  • Perpetual license and creative cloud update popup window

I initially downloaded a 30 day free trial of lightroom from Adobe website which I guess is from the "cloud". I since have purchased a perpetual license that used a new serial #. When I log into my computer I keep getting an annoying creative cloud update window saying there is an update. Is this update window only for creative cloud downloaded software and not perpetual license owners? If it is, how do I disable or remove this annoying cloud update pop up feature from my Mac.

    Hi Loveppro11,
Please let us know the version of Mac you are using.
Naviagte to Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and uninstall Creative cloud.
Run the Adobe Cleaner to remove any leftover ruminants: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html.
Download and Install CC desktop from:https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud .
If still the same issue then enable root account and check whether its working there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11331 .

  • The need for the option to purchase perpetual license of Production Bundle

My business has used Adobe products for 15 years. I am a big fan. But I wish to continue purchasing the Production Bundle line of products with perpetual licenses. I have no need for the Cloud. I also want to upgrade from my current version of CS6 as I have done in the past, for about $350. Month to month rental does not work for my business. I also dont feel paying $600 for the Cloud is appropriate since my standard yeaarly upgrades are usually $350. If you folks dont give me a choice I will have to end my use of Adobe software. Many other professionals feel the same way. Please give us an option for ownership. Otherwise you may find you have a mass exodus from folks that have happily purchased your product for years.

    Hi Todd and 001andrew,
I was going through the discussion we were having in last 4-5 post in this thread and it made me reply to your query and concerns.
I think you are mixing up 2 things here "Adobe Creative Cloud" and "Adobe Marketing cloud". Creative cloud comes under Digital Media whereas Marketing cloud comes under Digital Marketing.
Adobe® Marketing Cloud gives you a complete set of analytics, social, advertising, targeting, and web experience management solutions and a real-time dashboard that brings together everything you need to know about your marketing campaigns. So you can get from data to insights to action, faster and smarter than ever.
You can explore more about Marketing cloud on the following link:
    http://www.adobe.com/in/solutions/digital-marketing.html
On the other hand Creative cloud gives you a simple membership which gives you the entire collection of CS6 tools and more. be it print or Interested in websites and iPad apps or Ready to edit video? You can do it all. Plus, Creative Cloud members automatically get access to new products and exclusive updates as soon as they’re released. And, with cloud storage and the ability to sync to any device, your files are always right where you need them.
Adobe Creative Cloud is an ongoing membership that gives your team access to all the Adobe Creative Suite® 6 desktop applications, plus other tools and services including Adobe Muse, Adobe Acrobat XI and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 software, Adobe Edge Tools & Services, and more. Creative Cloud also includes new Internet-based services* and enables the delivery of high-impact content experiences such as interactive websites and stunning digital magazines. By offering connectivity with Adobe Touch Apps†, headlined by Adobe Photoshop Touch, Creative Cloud enables a mobile workflow, from ideation to publishing, to bring the power of Adobe innovation to iPad devices and Android™ tablets. Creative Cloud gives you freedom to create, offering immediate and ongoing access to industry-defining tools and technologies, to serve a vibrant worldwide community of creative talent.
to know more about the creative cloud offering you can visit:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/buying-guide.html
Hope this helps you to understand the concept.
Also on the point where you have mentioned that where Adobe's Quarter result indicate that "Deferred revenue grew by $80.5 million to a record $700.0 million. " This Mean that Adobe has invested a lot in new offerings which is a liability as of now and this will turn into regular revenue in the future financial results.
Just to make it easy to understand deferred revenue means that we have advance payments or unearned revenue, recorded on the Adobe's balance sheet as a liability, until the services have been rendered or products have been delivered. Deferred revenue is a liability because it refers to revenue that has not yet been earned, but represents products or services that are owed to the customer. As the product or service is delivered over time, it is recognized as revenue on the income statement.
Companies generally have sizable amounts of deferred revenues on their balance sheets, typically representing license fees and annual maintenance charges. Analysts study trends in deferred revenues of such companies for a better indication of their financial performance.
So yes it is a good indication for Adobe and promise a great results in future. And obvously we can do it only with our esteemed and respected customers coming along in this great journey for Adobe.
    Cheers!!

  • CS6 MC Perpetual License activation problem after App. Mngr updated to Adobe CC

    Hi.
I'm using perpetual license of CS6 Master Collection on windows 8 64 bit .
This morning the Adobe Application Manager did update itself to Adobe Creative Cloud (probably this is unrelated to the problem).
No CC application installed; and never installed application from CC.
After that opening Adobe Acrobat X Pro a dialog box appears about Trial Expiration that says:
"Your trial will expire in 130 days".
    mmmm
So i press "license" button, then "signin" or "login" button and it says "Thank You, Creative Cloud will now be licensed to myemail....".
What? I'm using CS6 Master Collection with perpetual license; what does it mean?
Anyway; after that opening Acrobat X Pro another dialog box appears:
    Master Collection Trial
Your trial will expire in 7 days.
Note that i open Photoshop, click on Help, Deactivate.... menu is enabled meaning that CS6 Perpetual License are working (i suppose).
Ok, i know that sometimes Acrobat Pro revert to trial and Deactivate / Reactivate normally work.
So, proceed to deactivate and reactivate CS6 MC.
Nothing to do, trial dialog box appears using Acrobat X Pro.
    CC CS confusion?
Can i have my CS6 perpetual license installed

    Well, acording to this blog:
    http://blog.conradchavez.com/2013/01/16/updates-adobe-photoshop-cs6-13-0-413-1-2-fixes-tri al-version-problem/
there is fix is discussed here:

    and here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2013/01/photoshop-13-0-413-1-2-updates-now-available.htm l
I have my doubts, as I have been seeing the trial screen even after updating the software.
    good luck.

  • PS CS6 standard perpetual license has been converted to a CC PS CS6 Extended license

I run PS CC alongside PS CS6 standard with a perpetual license. A recent update, and I'm not sure which, has converted my PS CS6 standard install into the Extended CS6 version. Can anyone tell me if this is a known bug? How should I go about resolving this? Should I simply deactivate Extended and uninstall, then reinstall CS6 standard? I don't think this should have happened in the first place, so I'm a little concerned about spending a bunch of time resolving this only to have it happen again.
    Thanks for any help.

CS6 should not remain a perpetual version as you are already having CC membership for Ps CC activated.
    This is expected behavior.
PS 13.1.2 is a subscription patch(for Creative Cloud users) not for perpetual,  this would not get applied over 13.0.1.x(update for perpetual). As you have 13.0.1.x already applied then you need to re-install Ps CS6 to get Ps 13.1.2.

  • Perpetual License Lightroom 5 Download

Does anyone have the link for the non-cloud download?  If I download the cloud-based lightroom and try to activate it with my perpetual license, it won't work.  Support gave me the link in chat, and I should have copied it for safe keeping.
The download links used to be on the product page linked in our emailed receipts of purchase, but they're gone now.
    Thanks!

  • Installed Photoshop CS6 3 times from Perpetual License download - error messages keep coming

    Windows 7-64
I bought Photoshop CS6 as an upgrade to CS3 and CS5 which I had previously bought on Disk. This new version came as a Download from Adobe but I have continuing problems with this download.
On first installation I ran the updater from inside Photoshop and got error message:
    Extension Manager 6.0.6 Update
    Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7
I ran the Adobe Application Manager for updates and it said I was O.K. but again from within Photoshop the updater gave the error message.
The Adobe Community suggested a re-install. I uninstalled the programme, ran the clean-up creative software tool and did another download and re-installed.
Now I have another error message:
    Adobe Photoshop 13.0.1.2
Done with Errors. Error Code: U44M1P6
    Extension Manager 6.0.6 Update
    Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7
I ran the Adobe Application Manager again today and it treated me as a Creative Cloud customer and said my trial had ended! - I don't subscribe to Creative Cloud, I am on a perpetual license. I have never (knowingly) done a modified install (wouldn't know how to!)
So now I have uninstalled Photoshop CS6 yet again. I have seen on one forum to download from the TRY button instead of the bought button. But I can't find the TRY button now - in fact all I can find on the HELP pages is the Creative Cloud version.
Time is running out - I can see I will be asking for my money back on this one!
    Any help out there please?
    Thanks

I'm sorry the update didn't help, but you know Adobe will require you to update to the latest once you engage them.
I think an Adobe engineer is going to have to weigh in here   There was once a problem just like this reported (same c000001d error code), but I thought Adobe had fixed it.  See also:

I hope the answer doesn't turn out to be "you can't run Photoshop on that old Athlon processor."
