Cloudd & nsurlsessiond consuming all my bandwidth

Hello.
I’m running 10.10.03 (as of last night, the official release; for several weeks prior, the beta release — but I couldn’t whine because it was beta software).
The processes cloudd and nssessionurld are hogging all my network’s bandwidth, generating enormous amounts of traffic… several gigabytes per hour, every hour, always, totally clogging my internet connection to the point that DNS resolutions fail and ping-times to Google’s canonical address go from being 8-9 ms to being in the region of 250, maybe even 300 ms, with about 10% dropped packets.
I know it is these two processes because Activity Monitor shows them to be generating this traffic; furthermore, force-quitting them from within Activity Monitor causes the problem to momentarily cease, until they get respawned and resume their heathen task.
(Might be relevant: I have activated the Photos online sharing service… but the library is apparently fully synched up, and has been for ages, so occasional daily incremental variations should be slight.)
So basically, what are they doing? Why do they keep doing it? What are they sending where and, most importantly, how do I either configure them to undertake less obnoxious behaviour or, failing that, throttle them down to a maximum that doesn’t bring my network to its knees?
(Speaking of which, I have a 1 Mbps uplink, 100 Mbps downlink ADSL link with the premiere service in the region… the usual behaviour is rock solid… and remains rock solid when I disconnect my machine from the network and use other devices to verify performance etc.)

I have the same issue. I don't share any photo and I also tried to disable the iCloud drive. Nothing, still sucking my very precious little bandwidth from my Internet key for doing just nothing! This is a nightmare. I had the same issue in 10.10.2. I tried disconnecting the ethernet cable, rebooting, even cleaning up with Onyx. Not a change.
Maybe I've found a workaround, though. I am connected via ethernet. Switching to WiFi (I used my mobile as an hotspot) it just stopped. Switching back to ethernet it didn't restart downloading. I don't know if it is because it stopped the nothing it was doing or else, but now it is back to normal.

hi i recently got a mac mini, however i live in Egypt and braodband speeds on land lines are of max of 2 mbs i a have a 1mbps download speed and i have noticed that all my downloads are very slow i opeeed activity monitor and check the network i was shocked by the fact that the total download speed is around 100kb/s which the max i usually get from the connection with a very high packet consumer called ubd, i have checked and it seems its related to icloud however my total icloud usage comes from the ipad i owned for more than a year and its says its 3.1GB i have left the mac opened for around 2 days and i have all my pages , photostream, keynote files syncronized what is this ubd doing in the background?!!!
why it consumes my full bandwidth all the time! anyway to stop because if it keeps lie that it would be impossible to use this computer and most probably i will have to sell it

  • Locationd using all available bandwidth

I know that locationd is used to provide OS X's "Core Location", and uses skyhook, the same service that is used by the iPod Touch to locate itself.
That doesn't explain why locationd is consuming all available (incoming) bandwidth, however. Has anybody else run into this issue? Does anybody know why locationd would do this!?!

Did you try using the Min Load % field for Resource in the resource master ?

I want to pass along a couple of tips that will get you more and better response on this list.
    1) There is an un-written rule that says more "stars" is better than just one star. Giving a one star rating will probably eliminate that responder from individuals that are willing to anser your question.
    2) If someone gives you an answer that meets your needs, reply to that answer and say that it worked.
    3) If someone suggests that you look at an example, DO IT! LV comes with a wonderful set of examples that demonstate almost all of the core functionality of LV. Familiarity with all of the LV examples will get you through about 80% of the Certified LabVIEW Developer exam.
    4) If you have a question first search the examples for something tha
t may help you. If you can not find an example that is exactly what you want, find one that is close and post a question along the lines of "I want to do something similar to example X, how can I modify it to do Y".
    5) Some of the greatest LabVIEW minds offer there services and advice for free on this exchange. If you treat them good, they can get you through almost every challenge that can be encountered in LV.
    6) If English is not your native language, post your question in the language you favor. There is probably someone around that can help. "We're big, we're bad, we're international!"

  • I am using a Hughes Satellite and I am having a problem with using all my bandwidth without even using my computer.  Is there a way to shut things off that I don't need running all the time in the background.

I am using Hughes satellie for my internet provider.  I am having a problem using all my bandwidth each day.  Is there a way from using this bandwidth.  I am using even when I am not using my computer.  Is there a way to turn off things that are running in the background.

It depends a lot on what you have installed and what apps you run. Here's a suggestion:  Get Little Snitch and see what processes are accessing your internet connection.

  • My Yosemite is eating up all my bandwidth

    Hello,
I Installed Yosemite Yesterday (2 hours after the public release). I love it.
I kept my laptop on overnight to download some stuff and noticed it download just 15% (1.15GB) of my data (it would otherwise download at least 4GB). I thought it was my ISP problem so ignored it. But from today morning I noticed something called com.apple.geod is eating up all my bandwidth.
It stays on always. I tried force quitting it but it comes back up again. I restarted my Mac several times. I got a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013).
Is this some bug or something??? It's really annoying. My Safari, downloads, Radio and mostly 99% of my internet applications are getting messed up because of this.
I don't know if this might help but my Apple Maps and Maps (inside iMessage while my friend shared a location with me) does not open. I mean it opens but the Maps and stuff just shows those lines and does not load. It was perfect with Mavericks.
    Help please?

Guide: How to solve Yosemite memory leaks and CPU usage
This is VERY useful. There is also some additional information on drivers in /Library/Launch Agents and /Launch Daemons that are causing memory leaks.
After two weeks and two different (brand new) MacBook Pros, Yosemite is finally behaving after following such guidance as above. Note: When com.apple.geod stops responding, I simply View...Send Signal...Hang Up and it clears the problem. Good luck!

  • Error: The instance completed without consuming all of its messages.

    Hi,
    I have following scenario.
I am processing messages in Sequential way. I have two Orchestration, Orch1 has transformation logic and Orch2 has Sequential processing logic. Orch2 is directly binded with MsgBox and receives the messages persisted by the Orch1 based on correlating property.
I need to sort the message based on ReceivedFileName(which is date time stamp). So In the Orch2, I am receiving all the messages within certain delay say 1min, adding to a List, sorting all the messages based on Filename and then sending to destination location one by one.
Now I am getting one error in Orch2 when the frequency is high. The error says "The instance completed without consuming all of its messages. The instance and its unconsumed messages have been suspended. " I believe the cause could be, when the Orch2 sending one batch of sorted messages then it might have received new messages meanwhile. And so, as the sorted messages are sent the Orch2 instance completes but there are new messages still attached to this Orch instance and thus its suspending.
I am totally not able to figure out how can I avoid this error. Also I don't want to terminate the suspended message(loss of message :().
    Thanks in advanceAjeet Kumar

    Thanks for Reply.
I tried with this also, but the problem is even if I decide any end point for Convoy, then also I can't stop the Orchestration to not to subscribe new messages during its life time. I will explain this in detail
We can separately divide the Orch2(Order Delivery Orch) functionality into 3 parts and considering time lags.
    1) Orch2 receives all the convoy msg from MsgBox say it took time t1(equal to the delay)
    2) Not it will sort the messages based on FileName...say this operation took time t2
    3) Now I am sending the sorted messages one by one to destination location. Say it took time t3 to send all the messages.
Now, if during the time delays (T2+T3) if any new message comes into Convoy orch, then the instance will suspend with the error "The instance completed without consuming all of its messages. The instance and its unconsumed messages have been suspended. ".
So is there any way to make sure that Convoy Orch does not receive any new msg during time T2+T3.Ajeet Kumar

  • Safari Web Content consuming all my memory

I'm having a problem with Safari Web Content.
I've jst re-loaded Mountain Lion in a brute forcve attempt to resolve my issue, but it's still occurring.
The issue is:  with very little running, if I run Safari and bounce around a few websites, I can easily consume all my memory.  I end up with this:
As you see, Active memory is too high (before this test I had Mail open, and Avtive memory was about 2GBm what you might expect normally).
Actibve memory had actually peaked at about 3/4 of the total, but then some must have got swapped out to Inactive.....giving us the picture above.
But look at the Real Mem occupied by Safai Web Content!  That can't be right, surely.
Nevertheless, I'm led to believe that OSX's memory management algorithm's will swap out Inactive for Free when it is required....well, this isn't happening.  I saw Free memory down to 7MB at one point, not a typo.  Everything grinds to a halt.
If I am patient, and try to Quit Safari, I end up back here:
Clearly showing that if I manage to kill Safari, the memory gets freed up again.
I understand why OSX wants to handle memory with the Inactive concept - "you've just closed Word, but maybe you'll open it again in the next ten minutes so we'll leave it in memory, inactive, so when you try and open it, it will open really quickly".  Right now, I'd rather turn that freature off and have memory behave more primitively and take the hit on re-opening.
As I mentioned, I reloaded OSX Mountain Lion and the problem persists.  When you re-load or upgrade your OS, there are many configuration settings (desktop, mail, safari) that are kept so that the upgrade looks seamless;  clearly whatever is corrupting me here has been kept also.  For that reason I'm loathe to go to Mavericks, because I presume the same corruption would exist (and also I hear Mavericks is still a bit shaky with the native Mail app).
What config type files should I look to safely delete and have the OS rebuild?  Any ideas?

OK, so I tried a Safe Boot.  It wired 5GB of memory, and for a while I thought what was left would behave itself, but within about 10 minutes I consumed everything again.
    Here's the before:
And here's 10 minutes later, after bouncing around a few websites:
I also tried firing up Safari, going to Facebook, and letting it sit for a while.  No effect.
So, the problem occurs when visiting multiple sites - memory isn't getting released properly.
I think I'm left with a move to Mavericks.

  • Ubd was eating up all network bandwidth after latest upgrade.

    Hello,
When the OS X 10.8.2-update (2.0) was installed on my MacBook Air,
    Dec  3 20:49:53 MacBookAirPatrick.local installd[914]: Installed "Aanvullende OS X 10.8.2-update" (2.0)
My MacBook Air start to use all my bandwidth.
The reason seems to be the process ubd.  I removed this via:
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Ubiquity.framework/Versions/A/Support/ubd
What is this process used to and was removing this the right action?
    Thanks.

I was given a link to this thread by an AppleCare representative.
I noticed that in the last few days we had been getting through significantly more data than normal - even overnight when the computers are relatively idle  it was using about 7 GB.
I was able to log into my Draytek Vigor 2710 router and find out that it was the IP address of my Mac Pro that was using all the data.
Then I used Little Snitch Network Monitor to see what processes were using all the data. As mentioned above it was ubd - and more specifically it was 3 processes - p03-ubiquity.icloud.com,  p03-content.icloud.com and another called something like blob. something .windows.net (apparently this is cloud storage used by iCloud).
Concurring with what was said above, I was told it was Documents and Data that seemed to be the problem.  I signed out of iCloud and allowed it to delete everything from my Mac Pro, then signed in and restored everything except Documents and Data.
My plan is to see how things go without using iCloud Documents and Data - and if no further problems I'll try ticking that again and monitor it closely.
My suspicion is that some corruption occurred with iCloud documents or the sync process (second problem I've had with iCloud so far).
It's a shame because things like this NEVER seem to happen with Dropbox - even though I use Dropbox far more extensively and for far longer.

  • Store agent started to transfer large amounts of data, eating all my bandwidth.  Seemed to just start 5-6 days ago.

About5-6 days ago store agent started to continuously run, sending and receiving large amounts of data.  This eats all my bandwidth quickly, essentially rendering my internet access worthless since I have to use satellite internet.  I have tried stopping it in the Activity Monitor , but it restarts again. I thought I might have had a virus or something.  I downloaded trend micro for Mac, but found its core services essentially did the same thing. I uninstalled, but found that store agent is still running non stop. Ideas?

The storeagent process is a normal part of Mac OS X, not a virus. Remove Trend Micro, which is a quite poor choice for protecting yourself against malware in the first place (see the results of my Mac anti-virus testing 2014), and which isn't really necessary anyway (see my Mac Malware Guide).
As for what it might be doing, as babowa points out, it should be present when the App Store app is open, and at that time, it might be occupied with downloading updates or something similar. If you keep force-quitting it in Activity Monitor, that probably ruins whatever download it was working on, so it has to start all over again, perpetuating the cycle. In general, it is a very bad idea to force-quit processes that are part of Mac OS X without a very good reason and an understanding of what they are.
Go to System Preferences -> App Store:
You will probably want to turn off automatic download of newly available updates, as well as automatic download of apps purchased on other Macs (if you have other Macs). I do not advise turning off the master "Automatically check for updates" box, or the one for installing security updates, as disabling those will reduce the security of your system. These security updates are typically small, so they should have very little impact on your total internet usage.

  • App on my iMac is using up all my bandwidth help, app my iMac is using up all my bandwidth help

    Hi All,
Looking for some help here. Whilst my imac is running it using up all my bandwidth on my connection ( I have a slow 2mbs Adsl connection). I have quit all applications in my dock and have checked on activity monitor, nothing there that i am aware of that needs to be closed. When i run a netstat it shows 7 active sessions but i have no idea what they are, hopefully not a virus. I have only been a OSX for year but have a wealth of experience of diagnosing connection issue due to working for an ISP.
I know it's not my router , my actually sync to the exchange , or the network i am on or any unknown devices on the LAN and can see the connection varying in activity monitor from a few kbs per second up to 200kps(my whole connection)
Anyone that can provide advice how to identify the sessions on this one would be greatly appreciated

You are probably using applications that fetch data over the network.
Google maps, the camera application, safari, app store, itunes app, and several other 3rd party applications do that.
The only way I can think of getting rid of that is by putting false information on
    settings->general->network->cellular data network.
That way you won't be able to use the carriers 3g and edge network.

  • Emacs consuming all of CPU

    Hello,
I have a problem with the new Emacs 23.2.1 in that it consumes all of my CPU when running under X. In console mode it works normally. Do you also experience this?

The same problem just happened to me today. I requested reopening of the following task in the bugtracker: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/19397
Removing the file .kde4/env/gtk-qt-engine.rc.sh as described in the 3rd comment to the above task did not solve the problem for me.
I didn't try the cedet patch, because that's from 2006 and the 100% cpu problem appeared with emacs 23.2.1 which is brand new.

  • IMovie '10 consumes all RAM and I can not export projects

A few days ago I upgraded to iMovie '10, but since then consumes all memory, close the application, I can not export projects. I upgraded my Macbook Pro from 4GB to 8GB of RAM, but the problem persists. I'd like to iMovie 9.0.9 but I do not know how to do

I have this same issue also, on my MacBook Pro. When I click 'export project' nothing comes up at all.
It's very frustrating and I have tried everything also:
    All files rendered
    Re-installed FCPX
The only change i've made since it has started happening was upgrading to Mavericks OS X 10.9.1. So it has to be something to do with that.
I was wondering and hoping if you have since solved the problem, and can help me with a solution to amend it.
If anyone else can help it will be much appreciated, and most thankful.

  • Ifconfig hangs consuming all cpu

I just ungraded my 2005-6ish 13" mac book to snow leopard and I noticed that when I was connected to wifi my CPU was pegged at 100% despite not doing anything. Checking the activity monitor showed two instances of ifconfig consuming all my CPU, and they just kept running and running.
I tried force quitting them and new ones popped back in their place. Starting up a terminal I checked for running ifconfigs:
    [12:03:57 ~]$ ps -aex | grep ifconfig
    8310   ??  S      0:00.00 /bin/sh -c ifconfig -a | grep inet
    8311   ??  R      1:40.05 ifconfig -a

    8318   ??  R      1:18.01 ifconfig en1
And if I run ifconfig directly, it just hangs never completing:

I thought it might be something related to my account, but it also happens if I log into the guest account. This happens on multiple wifi networks and after a clean boot. Software update says I'm completely up to date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure why this solution works. I didn't dig very deep after I used it to fix the problem on my Powerbook G4. However, if you're interested there is a discussion here:
    http://smartic.us/2007/11/8/leopard-100-cpu-usage-caused-by-syslogd-and-possibly -time-machine
There is also a short article in the "TipBITS" column at http://db.tidbits.com/
Just search for "syslogd", that's where I found the info I passed along here.

  • Android TV steals all the bandwidth!

Hi everyone, need a little help please! My problem is that my wireless speed at home is around 12 MB which I am happy with but the minute I turn on my MX Android TV box, my speed goes to 0.1 MB on all devices connected to my network, including my android TV box! I had a home hub 2 , changed to a HH3 and have had the problem with both routers. I have trawled the internet looking for a solution but no joy, any ideas please? Thanks in advance!!

    Hi everyone,
had this problem for a couple of weeks now and I can't figure it out. I bought an android tv box in September and it's been working fine until a few weeks ago. Every time I turned it on, my broadband speed went from 13Mb to less than 0.5 then returned to 13 the minute I turned the box off. My broadband light would flash orange most of the time when the box was on so I presumed that my router was faulty since it was about 7 years old. I have replaced it with a homehub 3 now and I'm having the exact same problem! I've done a factory reset on the android tv box and also on my new router but no luck. I have turned off smart wireless and I am wondering if anyone knows of any setting which could be making ths happen? The weird thing is, it's not like the box is getting all the bandwidth. It says it's connected to my wireless network yet menus etc take ages to load and I can't stream anything.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks in advance
    Kev.
