Clunky export of Keynote to Powerpoint

I've created a Keynote presentation with add-on points and graphics that I need to move to PowerPoint. I tried doing it internally using Keynote's export, but the images are in disarray in Keynote. My Microsoft Office/PowerPoint application was created in 2000. It has gosh-awful "dissolves" (pixels that break up) If I upgraded to the 2004 Microsoft Office program, would I have the same problems?
Does Microsoft have a new Mac Office program coming out? Any recommendations for how to make a smoother move to Powerpoint?
Happy holidays,

2004 does have soft shadows and proper cross fades (though you might have to try a few that sound like dissolve or crossfade as I can't remember what they call it). It also supports PNG with transparency, so exporting a Keynote file from say, Keynote to PPT 2004 actually looks pretty good (though you lose the nice transitions and text effects).
But that's usually NOT the problem. The problem is taking the file to any other version of PPT (let's hope PPT 2007 fixes that). If you're expecting folks to view this on a Windows machine that's NOT running PPT 2007, stay away from soft shadows and transparent stuff. In my tests soft shadows come over to windows as light grey solid shadows, and boy to they look like crap.

  • PPTs exported from Keynote won't open in Powerpoint 12.2.8

    When I export a Keynote 09 file as a Powerpoint and then try to open it in Powerpoint 12.2.8 I get the following error message. "There was an error accessing Symbiont:Users:Symbiodin:Desktop:02EpitheliatextA.ppt This happens with all files I export as ppts, not just one. Curiously, the files will open in Powerpoint 12.2.7? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or better yet, have a solution for it. (-;{

I also had this problem. I found, by trial and error, that an image I had in my master slides caused the issue. When I removed it, exporting to PowerPoint worked correctly.
This image had been there for a long time, and I'm not sure what was wrong with that image. It used to export fine with older versions of Keynote. Or the latest Office update broke it. I'm not sure who is at fault, as I updated both.
Anyway, that might be something to try. Either in the master slides, or one of the slides.

  • Why cant I export or save keynote as powerpoint?

Why cant I export or save keynote as powerpoint?

you still have not said what happens, does it save any kind of file, does it freeze, does it give an error message?
In the mean time I suggest the following software repair:
Delete iWork in entirely, use Appcleaner to do this quickly, its free.
    empty the trash
download iWork again from the App store
    reinstall iwork
repair permissions:   applications > utilities > disk utility > first aid: click on the system disc then click repair disc permissions
reboot and report back your findings

I have been trying to export a keynote powerpoint with voice over to quick time. It keeps crashing. Can anything be done?

Can you explain this better, there appears to be a strange work flow going on,  have you imported PowerPoint into Keynote or you are trying to export to PowerPoint?
There are many users who have trouble with a recorded voice over going to Quicktime.
Try this repair, its sorted out many similar problems in the past.
Complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1  delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote by using Appcleaner from Mac Update to           do this, its freeware
2  restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3  immediately after the start chime,  press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
let it fully boot up,  it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4  when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive  then First Aid tab and           click  repair disc permissions
5  when complete, restart the Mac normally
6  install Keynote from the Mac App Store
Please report back to let us know if this helped.

  • How to open keynote in powerpoint

I want to open keynote in powerpoint and I exported it but when I open to another pc. It doesn't work

PowerPoint does not open Keynote files.
However, Keynote presentations can be exported as PowerPoint files.

  • Presentation slides made in keynote or powerpoint do not play correctly on keynote for ios

I am working with 3 colleagues on some simple slides (foreign language vocabulary) that we build in the most recent versions of either keynote or powerpoint, then import into keynote for iOS. The slides simply play with the word, then the definition appears. Whichever appliction we use to build the slides (same thing happens with a PC/Powerpoint), about the first 10 or 15 slides work fine, then none of the following slides have the animation.
To repair, we have to select each slide individually and go to the 'wrench' settings, select the second word, and select animate.
Is this a bug with a fix?
Is there a way to repair all the slides in a file at once?
    Thanks.

yup, that's a glitch (bug, feature?) in the QT export. You simply can't interrupt the playback on slides with a button until everything on that slide is done. Works fine in Keynote, doesn't work fine in QT.
The only way I know to fix it is to learn how to use LiveStage Pro and edit the sprite tracks so they work properly. And I have no idea how to do that.

  • Extra Large File after Exporting Keynotes09/08 to PowerPoint

I recently exported a Keynote 09 file to PowerPoint format. The KN09 file size was 7.1M (Note: It was imported from KN08, where the file size was @8.5M. The KN09 further went through a 'Reduce File Size). When I exported the KN09 file to PPT, the size of the PPT file became 44.8M, which is slightly more than 6 times the original size. Why is this happening, and is there a way to downsize the PPT file upfront, or have it within the range of the KN09 file size, ie upfront in KN?
Fyi, I have also tried the same thing on KN08, ie export it to PPT, and it ended up with the same situation.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Thim

Much thanks for your quick reply, Brian, and also for the info on the embedded themes, etc. While waiting for a response, what I did was to remove all the special effects/transition for the bullet points as well as the slides in KN09, changed the themes to 'blank' and the Master/Appearance/ Background to a single colour, plus removing the shadows, etc. Thereafter, I saved the KN09 file (to another name), and exported it PDF to test out the file size (as previous attempt also ended up in a BIG file size. With this, I managed to downsize the KN09 file from originally 7.6Mb to 728Kb (KN09) and 260Kb (PDF) respectively. Have not converted the new KN file of 728Kb to PPT yet, but I would think the file size for this should be reasonably smaller, as compared to a direct export from KN09 to PPT (of 44.8 Mb). I would also think that after converting the downsized KN09 file to PPT, and put in the effects, the file should not be that big - definitely less than 44.8Mb!
Thanks again, and have a wonderful day. Greatly appreciated.

  • Has anyone ever exported a Keynote to a PDF and noticed that some characters were missing?

I've recently exported a Keynote to a PDF to make it readable for Windows. The problem was that I noticed some characters were missing (the word AÇÕES was written AÇ ES). My main problem, actually, was with the "ã" and "õ", mainly while using the fonte ANTENNA (the whole family).
I've then noticed that, in one single slide, I've used, by mistake, the font GILL SANS on a title. I then substituted the font for ANTENNA. Guess what... Problem solved!
Has it ever happened to anyone? Is there any logical explanation for that?!

    I have the same problem.
    Using Keynote 6.1
    OSX 10.9.2
    To reproduce the problem:
    Make a blank presentation.
Make a table (love the new table inteface btw ).
    In a table cell, write E = mc2, where 2 is a super script.
Export to PDF. The superscript is gone. Same for subscripts.
Seems as all text after the subscript or superscirpt in a cell is missing.
Twice now, I have had to convert my presentation to PowerPoint as table headers have been mangled due to this isuee...

  • Keynote conversion:  Powerpoint found a problem with content....

    Hi all,
MS office is killing me and I'd appreciate any pointers and comments
    Here's the situation:
    1. Keynote file (multi-revised over the years) exported to powerpoint file XYZ in New-MBP
    2. New-MBP opens XYZ and gets "found a problem with content in..."
    3. Click on "repair", open up XYZ, and get bunch of blank pages
    4. Same XYZ file copied to Old-MBP(freshly installed, now my home media server, not many apps installed).
    5. Same version of Office 2011 installed in Old-MBP, opened the file just fine!
(so the problem is not NewMBP Keynote)
    6. Created a test account in New-MBP
    7. Attempted to open XYZ with Powerpoint
    8. Same "found a problem with content in..."
    9. Click on "repair", open up XYZ, and get bunch of blank pages
(so the problem is not user/privileges, but the NewMBP system-wide issue?)
    10. In New MBP, created a brand new Keynote file, did some light work
    11. Exported new keynote file to powerpoint file RRR
    12. In New-MBP, RRR opened under Powerpoint 2011 just fine!
(so the problem might be the original multi-modified Keynote file?)
(But its powerpoint file XYZ opened in Old-MBP just fine!)
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2011, with SP1, still cannot open XYZ properly.
I've copied all Office 2011 files from Old-MBP to New MBP, still cannot open XYZ properly.
I"ve googled the problem and tried anything I could find, still cannot open XYZ properly. (deleting presenter notes... etc)
My current conclusion: some kind of software system conflicts in the New-MBP.
    Anyone with any ideas?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Will

    Hi Will,
Met the same issues and spent hours to find the problem. And guess what ? I found it :-)
For some reason, groups are not supported by Powerpoint converted files.
This is why every slide that contains group is not converted.
The workaround is to ungroup all the groups in your keynote file (alt+cmd+shift+G) and you'll see your slides being converted again.
I'm not sure where the issue is coming from. I would tend to think it should be resolve by the Apple Keynote team.
Not sure whether it has been escalated so far.
There might be some other small issues. One or two slides were not properly converted although they were not containing group, but this should fix most of them.
    Have fun degrouping your slides

  • Exporting from Keynote to iTunesU

I am trying to export a slideshow with voiceover narration to iTunes U. Is there an easy and direct way to get the presentation into the format recommended by iTunes U (MPEG-4 with H.264). When I use the preset export settings in Keynote, I seem to always end up with a QuickTime file that is huge and has glitches in the timing.
My workaround has been to export for Keynote to QuickTime, and then import the QT into iMovie, and reexport it as .m4v. The end result is great (clear audio, good video, and a not too bloated file size), but the process can take HOURS.
I can't believe there isn't an easy link between Keynote and iTunes U. The two apps are an obvious fit.

Im using Keynote 09 and I have tried to export through the share option in the menu bar. I have also tried to save as a powerpoint and they both give me errors that are unknown.
    Thanks for the help

  • How can I export a keynote proyect to a movie?

I am making an assigment for the university and I don't know how to export a keynote presentation to a movie, ( with short videos and narration inside of it ).
I tried quicktime export and it didin't work , the whole timing thing was awful!
I really need this presentation to be exported into a DVD or a CD or anything so I can give it to my guide teacher...
    Help me please
PS: I am using a MacBook Pro to make this

This is a well known problem with Keynote 6.1, the only thing you can do is use Keynote 5.3 instead, if you have it.
Meanwhile sit back and wait to see if Apple issues a fix in the schedule of updates they said they would issue during 2014.

  • Exporting from JSP into PowerPoint or an Image file

I am having a JSP file, the data from which need to be exported into a PowerPoint presentation. Can you suggest me some code examples of exporting the data from JSP to PowerPoint or rather to an image (.gif or .jpg), this image file can then be inserted into the PowerPoint.
I tried exporting to Excel and from there Copy+Paste but this leaves a chance of modifying the data, the other option I used was exporting the data into a .pdf file, but we are currently having Acrobat Reader 4.0 in which there is no Graphic selection tool unless I use the full version.
My first preference is to export the data into PowerPoint or if that does not work then into an image file.
Would be helpful if you have some code examples to look at or if you can guide to some useful sites that can help me in achieving this.
    Thanks in advance...

For exporting the data into .ppt files try the following.
Set the content type for the jsp as "application/ms-powerpoint"
and whatever HTML u have would be sent to the ppt.

  • MOV exported from Keynote - last slide disappears, audio continues playing

I have a series of three mov files that were created in & exported from Keynote. They are audio & slide shows that are to autoplay on a website. Two of the files function as expected once embedded in the website, one does not; the last slide drops out (displaying a white screen) while the audio continues for approximately 30 seconds until the mov file ends. To add confusion to the issue ALL the files play as expected using Safari (on Win & Mac). Using Firefox on Mac delivers the "broken" results. Using ANY browser on Windows yields the broken result.
Any suggestions from anyone as to what could be causing this? A link to the website I'm talking about is below. The problem file is on index2.html

    Hi,
Since I am trying to do a number of things with Keynote, I read these discussions looking for opportunities and pitfalls.
I read your message, and saw your outcome as an issue. Since I've yet to add the soundtrack to my current project, I needed to know more about the outcome before I proceeded, in order to adjust accordingly.
I took my project, and added a song as the soundtrack. I played the slideshow, and the soundtrack played along, across the slides as it should. I then began to record the slideshow, but the soundtrack came playing through the speakers and was being picked up by the microphones, so I offed the speakers, donned my headphones, and re-began the recording. The soundtrack was playing (in the headphones), and I was narrating across many slides.
I played the recorded slideshow, and all was present - soundtrack and recorded narration.
I exported to Quicktime, sending the output to a new folder so that it could easily be found, along with anything else that might be generated. Upon completion, there was only one movie file in the folder. I opened and played it in Quicktime. It was perfect - slides looked good, narration was there, and the soundtrack was playing in the background.
This outcome appears to be your objective, so I'm not sure what I did differently than you, but from this experience, it works as should be expected.
    Good luck.

  • No audio on keynote from Powerpoint.

Went importing Powerpoint presentation I am unable to get the audio.

I opened directly from my email on my Apple laptop.  I opened it using Keynote from PowerPoint file.  How do I change it and insert anything?  It just did not have audio output.  Period.
BTW, I did the same thing on any PC.  Voila!  No problem.  PowerPoint on PC works like a charm.  I am not happy with Keynote that I thought would take care of my PowerPoint files from my Macbook pro.  What else could I do?  Hopefully, Apple will update to solve this audio music problem of PowerPoint in the near future.  Only Apple authority could help me.
I wonder if I could write my feedback from the Keynote purchased ($9.99).  It wasted my dollars.  Maybe I can have refund.

  • Can't export from keynote 09 to quicktime

When I try to export from keynote 09 to quicktime 10 I get an error code there is not enough disk space or error 34.  I have taken off some graphic intensive files and have 30 GB of space left, but that does not seem to help.  Waht can I do?

Until you receive a specific answer from an expert, I would suggest finding somewhere to put unnecessary (or less important) larger files.
Macs need 10% free space to work correctly and 15% is much safer. Any less and you could run into all sorts of unpredictable problems. I think you will find that some of the free space is being used to process your exporting request, so that is multiplying the problem.
