Clunky in windows 7 64 bit

Has there really been no illustrator update. Hard to believe we're still on v14.0 Anyhoo,
Just installed 12gb of ram and was expecting illustrator to fly, but finding that its laggy - little pauses after making changes and slow to zoom in the screen and move around.  I just got an out of memory error when trying to drop a 2mb jpeg into a doc from the desktop.  I had to restart the application.
It feels no faster than my core2duo system with XP - in fact slower if anything.  Anyone else found this?
(the rest of my hardware should also be up to the job: ssd boot drive, scratchdisk: WD raptor, nvidea gtx 275 graphics card, raid 10 storage).

Just installed 12gb of ram and was expecting illustrator to fly
Why should it? It's still only using 2GB, because it is a 32bit app... The rest sounds like conventional graphics drawing issues plus your system having issues with your SSD drive and being slow at reading temporary data.

  • Which windows bit to use with parallels

    I'm a Newby, and I"m looking to use Parallels with my new Mac Pro 13" duo processor I7.  So, I need to get Parallels and was looking at a Windows 7 OEM disk.  Never have thought much about 32 or 64 bit, what's the difference and is one better then the other for everyday computing?

    Hi  for what it is worth ...
    I am using a MacBook Pro with 8G ram, and due to some of the applications I have to run for work, I run Parallels and Windows 7 64 bit
    I find the Windows platform VERY stable.  I went for Parallels, as I want to run Windows inside my Mac environment, and bit not want to dual boot i.e. have to shut down programs to switch from one to the other.
    All the updates work very well, all the applications I run in the Windows environment are stable, and cause me no problems at all.
    Everything on the MAC runs well, with no effect on the processes.  When I plug anything into the USB ports, I am then given the option if I want teh device to run in the Mac environment or the Windows,
    Hope that helps

  • Question about Windows 7 on MBP! Please help! :(

    Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to check out my problem. Basically, I'm getting a MBP soonish (yes, I'll be waiting for the coming update). I'm a student (17 years old), and have used Windows my entire life - so on my MBP I definitely won't be using the Mac OS, I just can't be bothered adapting myself to an entire new OS. Anyway, here are my questions:
    1) If I solely use Windows 7, is it still possible to alter some of the physical options of the MBP? (e.g. the trackpad, touch sensetive or pressing to click, two finger click = right click or not, and so on).
    2) Will the trackpad gestures still work, even though I will be using Windows 7?
    3) I am aware that Apple products sometimes get Firmware updates. Will a popup still appear if I am using Windows 7? If not, where can I see/obtain the Firmware update?
    4) I'm not very tech savvy about Mac OS, but, when I get my MBP and the IT guy installs Windows 7, will the Mac OS still be 'on' the laptop? Or will it ONLY be Windows 7? Should I bother about having the Mac OS on it, even though I will never use it?
    Thanks so much for your help everyone! I really really appreciate it.
    Regards,
    Brad.

    What you're essentially looking to do is replace the engine of a Ferrari with a diesel lawn tractor engine (nothing against diesels, the new ones are excellent). Windows is slow and clunky and always gets in your way with constant interruptions and maintenance that always has to be done. I'm a student too (20 yrs old) and there is absolutely only one reason to run Windows and that is for games. Everything else can be accomplished much more easily under Mac OS X.
    So the obvious question that I have is... why would you want to run Windows when you pay a small premium for the Mac hardware? You've already said you don't want to be bothered to adapt yourself to anything new and you think that you're not "tech savvy" enough to switch. In reality, you are the perfect person to switch from Windows to OS X. My girlfriend was just like you. Didn't initially have any interest in changing platforms, and wasn't that tech savvy (but wasn't a luddite either, for sure). I convinced her to get a Mac largely with the premise that Windows could be installed if she didn't like OS X. And she loved the hardware. So she got the Macbook, first night, and played around with it a bit. I came over the next day to install Windows and she told me she had no need for it and didn't want it at all. She has never used Windows at all since then. It took her one night to "adapt" herself to OS X and she said herself that she's more productive and happier using a computer since switching. And I know dozens more people exactly like this. Not only will you be the cool kid running OS X instead of clunky old Windows, you'll be more productive and happier too. How can you lose?
    Anyway, if you have a specific app to run in Windows you can use Boot Camp. Boot Camp installs Windoze directly onto a separate partition on the hard drive. You can then use the Alt (Option) key to toggle between 'Doze and OS X at startup. Windows will run at full native speed, and will use the dedicated graphics chip in the MBP (if you get a 15/17" model that has one). Windows will use more power and generate more heat than OS X. As a result, battery life on Windows is considerably less than OS X (talking 3-4 hours compared to 5-6, probably).
    If you do decide to go ahead with Windoze only (for some insane reason) then you will need to keep OS X around if you ever want firmware updates. Windows will never remind you of them, so you'll want to keep an eye on Software Update in OS X every month or so. The trackpad gestures will not work in Windows because Windows doesn't have trackpad gestures like OS X does. OS X is somewhere in the range of 6-8GB in size now, I think.
    I say you should +at least+ give OS X a chance. Use it for a couple days. Ask questions if you have any. If you hate it after that, then go ahead and use Windows. But at least you'll know you tried something different. Learning new things (that are better than existing ways) is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. There is absolutely no reason not to be constantly learning and growing. To willingly shut yourself off from that is a shame, IMHO.

  • ISO for re-installing Windows 7 Home Premium Russian x64 with key on HP laptop (x32 installed now)

    I have HP notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium x32 installed. I have added memory to laptop, but OS does not see it because 32-bit limitations. Laptop has label with key. I have no any CD/DVD included with OS. Where I can find Windows 7 Home Premium Russian
    x64 ISO to reinstall with key from laptop label?

    I just had talk with HP Support (I have Care Pack). You are not absolutely right.... Key from label (OEM on my laptop) is not binds to Windows bit architecture. HP has placed order today for media kit with x64 version of Windows 7 Home Premium included
    for me. It is free)).

  • Windows 7 startup time taking an eternity on MacPro 2010

    Hi All,
    I have a MacPro 2010 with the following config:
    - 2 x 6 core 2.97Ghz processors
    - 6GB RAM going to 24 GB RAM as soon as I get a chance to install it
    - 1 SSD for OSX boot, 1 1TB for Windows 7 only, 2 x 2TB for striped raid (OSX use)
    - ATI 5870 (centre screen) and a GT120 (left and right screens)
    I went through the motions of starting bootcamp assistant, selecting the drive and then inserting the windows media and then waited for the windows install gui to start. This took a long time 1hr+. I just went and did something else so I didnt think about it much. Once Windows installed and the machine rebooted it took a while for the little windows logo animation above "starting windows" to come up eg 5 minutes. Again did something else and didnt think much of it. Now once windows was started (surprised to see all three monitors come up with 2 different video cards...ATI and NVIDIA, bonus!) it worked ok and sooner or later got a blue screen of death. The machine reboots and I get to bootup options ie the your machine crashed do you want safe mode, etc, or in 30 seconds the default will be started...blah blah.....now the machine has my full attention and I am looking at how long things take to start. The 30 second countdown on the boot options screen took about 16 minutes to get to zero ie every second took ~30 seconds to decrease on the display. So once windows (I assume around the point where the windows logo does its thing over the "starting windows" bit) takes over in its boot sequence things are quicker but during initial boot there is a massive lag somewhere. Is this normal for 2010 macpro and Win7?
    Once in Win7 the Win Exp Index = 7.8 for everything bar disk which is 5.9 and thats with a raw install etc etc. So ok.
    Thanks
    Jim

    Stefan,
    So to set the scene, my MacPro is situated about 4-5 meters from my sitting position. Therefore I have 7mtr monitor cables and some USB devices in front of me..... anyway you get the picture Im sure.
    What was causing it were two generic USB extender cables (they have a box with circuitry on the end that boosts the signal for longer USB runs). They were giving me problems with the devices I tried to use (unreliable) so I simply stopped using them with USB devices a while back but never unplugged them from the Mac. I did however add another brand extender cable and used it without issue for many years. When I put the new mac in I simply reconnected everything not giving it any thought.
    So anyway, I have removed the two culprits from the mac left the better extender cable (plus other USB devices) there and its all fixed. For the record I did add them back on just to be sure and it is definitely them.
    I must admit I still cant figure out why one of those cables would slow a boot option page counter by 30 times, a power drain issue maybe?????

  • Imac finder slow to start - time incorrect after using windows via bootcamp

    Everything works fine on my imac except for the following annoying thing that I would like to understand.
    After using bootcamp to use windows xp (that also works fine), after I reboot back into Macosx, "sometimes" the finder is noticeably relatively very slow to start (builds the finder window bit by bit) and 'always" the time has been set incorrectly even though I think I have set the windows date and time settings correctly. I use a product available from the macosx downloads called 'cocktail" to maintain the mac - this seems to ok. Both leopard and windows always start - windows has crashed once over the last 6mths or so - macosx never.
    The time will reset after I use the date and time pref and toggle the auto update.
    Otherwise the imac seems nice and healthy with no hangs or problems - even time machine is working fine. I am generally very impressed.

  • Changing window state by JFrame

    Hi guys,
    I want to maximize a JFrame window, bit I dont know how.
    I tried it with
    public void maximizeWindow() {
    frame.setExtendedState(Frame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH); // frame is the instance of JFrame
    }I too tried it with Frame.MAXIMIZED_VERT and Frame.MAXIMIZED_HORIZ, bit it didn't work.
    About a quick help I would be very happy.

    package fi.stuff.testing;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import java.awt.Frame;
    public class Test
         public static void main(String[] args)
              JFrame frame = new JFrame("Maximized");
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              frame.setExtendedState(Frame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH);
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }It does work here. Have you perhaps set setResizable(false)?

    I have been using the Panasonic P2 cards for 5 years.  Never a problem until latest update.  Last three edit sessions SOME of the footage is showing up as Windows bit map data.  If I put the same card into FCP 7 they are fine.  What the heck?  Anyone have this experience before?
    THANK YOU

    Scott,
    One thing I do know is that you are NEVER to change the name of that content folder.  Just the fact that someone named it contents-2 worries me.    Each content folder should host all the data inclusively. Not one for audio and one for video.  So, hypothetically, you should be able to access both vidoe and audio in the content folder you can see. I have to assume each content folder has both audio and video.  I am not sure what you should do about that content-2? Not sure why anyone would change the name?  You could copy that content 2 folder for a back up then delete the "-2" to see if it makes a difference.  I don't know but I have a feeling that might be your problem.

  • Server 2012 R2 Configure Windows Server Essentials" fails at 87%

    I've tried all the suggestions here https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/3273ae3f-4952-4f96-be48-07bee6986e57/error-server-essentials-post-deployment-fails-at-0?forum=winserveressentials
    and https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b8caa9c7-ba91-475a-bf83-91aad9f0ba03/essentials-experience-postdeployment-configuration-fails?forum=winserveressentials
    short of a reformat, but it still fails for me at 87%. I have no ServerFolders folder to delete or rename, although I did at one point have an additional disk attached that had an old installation. possibly with ServerFolders, but I don't recall trying to
    install the Essentials role with that drive attached.
    I can provide the CBS log if preferred. I have been unable to find anything of use myself there.

  • Reinstalled Windows 7 home from Windows 8 now touch screen keeps droping (not working)

    Had to reload windows 7 home on my TM2 2151nr.  Touch screen worked but had to install updates to get the wireless to work. After updates installed touch screen and wireless worked. Got up this am and now the touch screen is no longer working.  Check and no other update had been installed had the update option turned off after both the wireless and touch had been working.
    I have been trying to get the touchscreen to continue to work after having to install updates for the wireless updates.  Reloaded windows not 3 times, but each time the touchscreen function stops working.
    What next?

    Here are the factory specs for your HP TouchSmart tm2-2151nr Notebook Computer.According to the specs, this model shipped from the factory with Windows bit installed and a means to create your own set of "HP Recovery Discs". Provided you created these discs and used them to return the computer to a "factory like state", all drivers and software should be automatically installed.
    If, however, you are using a standard Windows 7 installation disc, you will need to load all drivers yourself. Most HP provides drivers for this model should be located on the HP TouchSmart tm2-2151nr Notebook PC Drivers page. If you are unable to locate some drivers please post the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" for any missing or unknown devices as shown in the example below;
    If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • Why is safari so painfully slow?

    When I first got my mac just over a year ago, I was amazed at the speed, beauty and ease of use of safari compared to IE (treacle-like) and fire fox (clunky and a bit tacky).
    But now Safari has slowed down to such an extent that its interfering with my productivity and I am seriously thinking about transferring to Chrome.
    I've tried clearning the cache, verifying and repairing permissions, repairing the disk and clearing out the other forms autofill that I don't need (I left it to less that 10).
    But none of this has had any significant effect to the speed. Even when I go back to pages just visited, it can take up to 20 sec before the page even starts to load.
    What do I do??!!?? (he says wringing his hands in grief)

    Try this first...
    From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
    Restart your Mac. Try Safari. If that didn't make any difference...
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Deselect: Enable plug ins Quit then relaunch Safari. If Safari speeds up loading pages, troubleshooting help here. Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
    Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit, relaunch Safari.
    Quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
    Check for Login Items:  Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps you have listed there. And go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash.
    Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    Try Safari in another user account. Same problems there, then log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility.  /Applications/Utillities.
    Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
    Your profile indicates you are running v10.6.4. You can update your software by installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update.

  • Checklist of new yoga13 software

    What software updates should be done by Yoga13 users? My checklist:
    1)  Make your control panel load windows 8 update package... it may be a bit bumpy until several reboots, but fixes more bugs than it introduces.
    2)  Update to Lenovo's new BIOS firmware... download is listed on this forums solutions section for Yoga13. They just changed some of the directions from chinese to english, but still seem unclear on the reset of default options. The update may not make any notable difference, but didn't break anything for me.
    3) Update wifi driver after it passes the ongoing informal test being done by Lenovo, and hopefully it will be more straightforward to install than for volunteer testers now.
    4) Replace clunky, buggy windows 8 with windows blue, which is supposed to slip in as a win8 update at end of the year... to do touchscreens "right" this time. Hope we get it free on lenovo: http://news.msn.com/science-technology/microsoft-retooling-windows-8-for-fall-release?ocid=ansnews11
    optional) nuke Lenovo preload bloatware such as the pdf reader and virus checker for better standard free products.

    Device updates should be available to you as and when they are released. The updates you mentioned are optional and not marked as required or important.

  • Long boot due to ata recognition problems [SOLVED]

    As the message says my boot is taking about 10 minutes, of which 95% of the time is spent trying to recognize ata4 device.
    I'm using the x86_64 version of arch, which works just fine on my laptop, and on my desktop - when it boots that is.
    Another thing that puzzles me is how am I getting those errors, considering I don't really have 4 ata drives, yet only two - hard disk and dvd rom.
    Anyway, this is my dmesg output :

    Also I might add that on my first boot it didn't go this slow - I can't remember if I got the error or not though since I didn't pay attention.
    I don't think it's necessarily a hardware issue, even though this PC had it's issues with linux - had to flash my bios just so grub would detect hard drives, this doesn't seem like one of those.
    At least, I think it isn't since Mandriva booted just fine, and I don't think it's using a different kernel or some such, is it? Altough it was 32bit, but still, I find this quite odd.
    Now if this really is an error, not just buggy software, is there a way to ignore the error - I mean it boots up eventually anyway, just takes a hell of a lot of time.

    I'm going to bring up this issue again, still haven't fixed it and it remains unsolved with the newest kernel.
    The following links seem to have the same issue:
    http://www.ubuntu-forum.net/showthread.php?t=765486
    http://www.slackwarehelp.org/post-6750. … 194ecb9f80
    http://www.archlinux.it/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=11632
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … 26-644368/
    Some of those threads link to this one as well, pretty much all seem to be unresolved or lack any given solution.
    One thing I noticed though, it seems that in nearly all cases the users report to have an MSI motherboard, coincidence? Hope so.
    Any clues on how one might fix this? Facts are, the kernel boots eventually, always, and it works like there is no problem; the issue is that it takes it's time, about 5-10 times the amount it would be normally (or before 2.6.x). Note that in the old kernel the delay was only about 5 seconds or less, with just one error message.
    Also, it seems to boot just fine in Windows, bit sad that Windows seems more stable/reliable eh?
    So where to next? I really want to fix this. It seems Google can't spit out the solution, should I report a bug to the kernel devs and pray that they look it up? Or perhaps it might be feasible to just change the source code of the kernel so it doesn't try 4 times for 10, 10, 30 seconds yet only once for 1 second? Surely it would be a matter of a simple for loop, just a matter of finding it!
    Please, even if you ain't got a solution to the particular issue, at least give me(and the people who google for the problem since this thread seems to be topping the results) an advice on what approach to take next, I'm fairly sure that everything can be fixed with common sense and a bit of C knowledge, only thing that's needed is a bit of experience.

  • CM12 client takes hours to push to Server 2003 clients

    Hi,
    I am running SCCM 2012 R2 and using client push I can deploy the client to Windows 7 and 2008 servers without issue.
    When I push the client to our Server 2003 R2 SP2 clients it works but takes many hours.
    The CCMSetup log shows it is using the expected DP however BITS is downloading about 500KB every 5 mins

    This happens on any of our 2003 servers
    All these servers have BITS 2.5 installed and never experience problems downloading WSUS patches
    I have checked GPO's and even the registry and can see that BITS throttling is not enabled.
    The 2003 servers have fast LAN access to the CM12 servers
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    Is BITS throttling set on these devices?
