Solaris Operating System (OS) � Sun Cluster 3.2 software and Quorum Server software requires the following minimum versions of the Solaris OS:
Solaris 9 � Solaris 9 9/05 SPARC only.
Solaris 10 � Solaris 10 11/06.

Multimedia Cluster / software distro for Solaris 9

Hello all!
I was wondering if there is any sort multimedia cluster available for Sun OS 5.9. A software distribution having some sort of multimedia applications for video, audio and stuff.... Otherwise one gets bored sometime on dry solaris. Had heard previously about Sun MediaCentre...What about it? Is it still available from SUN?? Are there any other third party clusters available ???

There's plenty of stuff out there you can get for multimedia: xmms, xine; there are even Windows media player and Real Player for Solaris floating around...can't get them from the official sites anymore, I don't think...

Sun Cluster 3.1 64 bit support for Solaris 10

Hi:
I have some questions when migrate SC 3.1 from solaris 9 to solaris 10.
1) Does Clutster 3.1 for solaris 10 support 64 bit?
I have develop own resource type which is compiled with 64 bit mode, while cluster admin program is 32 bit based. E.g. /usr/cluster/bin/scrgadm
Will that cause any problem? For instance: 32 bit lib and 64 bit lib have the same name libscha.so will be loaded by 32 bit scrgadm and 64 bit my own developped resource type program.
2) Can I download a Cluster 3.1 install-pkg for solaris 10, 64 bit supported., which means all admin files like scrgadm are 64 bit based.
Or only ONE Cluster 3.1 version for solaris 10 is deliveried by SUN?

Comments on your 2 questions:
1) Yes. IIRC, SC31 for S10 actually supports ONLY 64 bit. To be clear, this means
Solaris has to be booted in 64 bit mode, but 32 bit applications would run just
fine.
As for your RT being 64 bit, and scrgadm being 32 bit, no problem.
2) See (1). You are good.

If you are going to use windows. I recommend you to use Oracle9i Rel.2 and use OCFS instead of Raw devices.

Is there native file system for solaris cluster?

As GFS for RedHat Linux and GPFS for AIX, is there any native file system for solaris cluster? Thanks for any infomation!

What do you mean by 'native'?
Oracle Solaris Cluster has a feature called the Global File System (or sometimes the Proxy File System). It allows UFS or Symantec VxFS to be mounted globally (on all cluster nodes simultaneously) in read/write mode. There is also a shared QFS option. All these are described in the documentation and in the book "Oracle Solaris Cluster Essentials".

Cluster filesystem for SOLARIS ??

Hello all,
I have done the installation of 10.2 RAC on Linux(wrt hunter's doc).
Here we format the shared disks using OCFS.
I need to do a RAC installation on Solaris 10. I read that OCFS is only for Windows and Linux.
What is it that should be used for Solaris ??
We are planning to use storage by Netapp NFS.

On solaris using Netapp NAS technology it's pretty straightforward.
Create a mount point (or multiple mount points) to host the OCR and voting files.
ensure permission are correct. What you need to do after this is create the files that will be used for voting and ocr so:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/path/to/shared/folder/ocr bs=1024 count=100000
dd if=/dev/zero of=/path/to/shared/folder/voting bs=1024 count=100000
(You may want multiple of these for redundancy)
When you install clusterware when it asks for the location of the ocr and voting disks point it to the files you have created.

Kernel patch update for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please suggest and guide me..

For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

9.2.0.6 is not a basic release,it's a patchset and available on metalink only. You need a valid support contract.

Can't download Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition for Solaris 32 bit??

I can't download Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition for Solaris 32 bit. After filling out the form with the questions...I click on the actual link, but the box never pops up. The status bar on my Internet Explorer slowly increases, but never allows me to download. It just hangs. I have tried multiple times, and I can download other verions from your site...and have many times in the past. Could you please fix this. Thanks.

The deployment process seems to die or get stuck, iAS 6 SP3 for Solaris 8?

When I deploy my application in iAS 6 SP3 for Solaris 8 the deployment process seems to die or get stuck. In the shell window i get the messages

After this nothing happens for a really long time.
When starting the deployment I get in the beginning of kas.log two entries

When starting the application server I get two error messages:

I think all processes starts OK, I get one for .kas and one for kas, one for .kxs and one for kxs and finally one for .kjs and one for kjs.
Is someone familiar with this/these problem(s)?

It seems you are deploying a very big application. Try to deploy this application with following command
j2eeappreg <filename>
It should work fine. It was a bug with iasdeploy command in iAS SP3 which had been fixed in iAS SP4.

No Disk meet the criteria for Solaris installation

Hi all, I have a problem when trying to install Solaris 8 (Intel) on my PC. There are some funny things happened while installing the OS.
1.) My motherboard does not support booting from CD-ROM, so I downloaded a Device Assistant Boot Disk to boot it up. Then I use dd.exe to make the boot disk from the image, I have tried many times that after creating the boot disk, this boot disk will contain 512 bytes of bad sector. So why?
2.) After using this boot disk to boot up and install the OS, before entering to the detection of the bus type stuff (still on the white screen), at the bottom of the screen, it says "ata_command select failed ... ...", what does this mean?
3.) When the system go back to the white screen with language selection, I choose English (which is 1), and the system try to find my hard disk, but it failed and says "No Disk meet the criteria for Solaris installation" with a new line saying "installation documenation found.". So what is happening?

Did you check that your adaptec scsi controller is
supported by solaris and/or has a working driver
(from sun or adaptec) ?

Build for solaris 8 on solaris 10 - possible?

I want to build/compile an application for solaris 8, but I only have access to a machine running solaris 10. Can I compile for solaris 8 on a solaris 10 machine, and if so, what do I have to do to make it work?

The short answer is generally no.
The long answer is that it can be done but you will need to make sure that on the Solaris 10 machine you only use functions/headers/libraries that are available on Solaris 8 otherwise they will not be found and the software won't work.
