Cluster_Database parameter in init file

Hi All,
I have received one cluster environment backup so when I start with restore operation, I have created pfile and provide list of required parameters. There is one parameter called cluster_database which I set to TRUE. When I want to start database in nomount mode with created pfile it failed with ORA-03113. If I removed cluster_database parameter from pfile then there is no error and DB started in nomout mode.
Does it mean that given backup is from non-cluster environment? Please guide..

Hi,
During restore of database yes, I prefer to opt for working on single node instead of cluster. Coming to issue of startup (during the non-recovery operation), if you are facing then that could be different (needs to check across/verify the parameters)

I have created standby database, its working fine, and logs are copying and being applied. I have successfully opened standby database in read only mode.

Dynamic changes / init file?

Is there any way to bypass changing the init file to make a dynamic change?
I have to make a change for archiving, and I can't bounce the db right now.
10.2.0.3, HPUX itanium
changes that need to be made...
log_archive_config DG_CONFIG=(peregrine,swesc)
log_archive_dest_state_2 = DEFER
fal_client peregrine
fal_server swesc
I don't really want to just issue these at the command line unknowing if they would do as I want or cause adverse affects.
Is it possible to just rip the command, and update the file too? command line causing immediate change, and init file change will allow for keeping it when restarted...

alter system set <parameter> = <value>;defaults to memory assuming that they are immediately modifiable
otherwise
alter system set <parameter> = <value> scope = memory;should do the trick as well. You probably want to use a spfile that way you can do both at the same time:
alter system set <parameter> = <value> scope = both;

How to create parameter and control file like filename + date

Hello there
I am trying to create parameter and control file with following command
in SQLPLUS
create pfile='/u03/oradata/WEBDB/backup/initWEBDB.ora' from spfile;
In RMAN
copy current controlfile to '/u03/oradata/WEBDB/backup/cf_longterm.cpy';
how can I put date at the end of filename like
initWEBDB8jan06.ora and cf_longterm8jan06.cpy

ASM is reliable but a smart DBA is very careful. If ASM is doing mirroring this is like RAID doing mirroring. What happens if you accidentally delete one copy ... the other one disappears instantly. Not a good idea.
With respect to redo logs you need a minimum of three groups, two members, and one thread per instance. So a 2 node cluster should, at a minimum have 12 physical files.
Not mirroring the redo logs, assuming multiple members, is not as critical.

'lastFieldsOptional' parameter in Inbound File adapter ?

Hi there,
Im getting the following error from the adapter engine when trying to process a flat file.
At The same time the adapter recommends to use the 'lastFieldsOptional' parameter, however,this parameter cannot be found in the provided documentation. can someone tell me what's exactly the problem here? How can I specify this 'lastFieldsOptional' parameter in the IB file configuration file? I have try to put this parameter in the config file, but the results are the same.

I just found the solution, the correct syntax of this "unknown" parameter from the file adapter is:
xml.lastFieldsOptional=YES
After this change in the config file the adapter is able to process the file.

Looks like you're creating a new file (which overwrites the old one) every time. You need to open the file first and then append to it.

Passing data parameter between SWF files

Thank you for the reference. Little bit confused, please let me clarify.
I do not understand how the receiver SWF receieved the data parameter and process.
For example, I have a parent dashboard and a child dashboard. In the parent dashboard, I have set up combo box to filter the data. And I want the data that I have selected in combo box to the child dashboard.
To do this, first I need to setup the flash variable at the parent dashboard to fetch the data I selected.
After this, how to link this data to the child dashboard?
Furthermore, after the child dashboard received the data parameter, I need this data to insert into the spreadsheet so I can filter the data. Is this possible?

Thanksyour database will operate just fine, but it will not accept shared server connections, only dedicated server.

Protection Mode Vs init file settings

Dear Friends,
In 11g databgurad i am setting the Protection mode of Primary to : Maximum protection at the DB level(so that it uses sync)
But while defining in init file if i say ASYNC for standby DB as mentioned below
LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2= 'SERVICE=boston ASYNC
Then will setting will take precednce , SYNC from maximum protection mode defined at DB level (or) ASYNC which is defined in init file?
(or) will it throw error if there is any mismatch?

you can confirm this in the alert log and v$database on the standby DB
SQL> alter database SET STANDBY DATABASE TO MAXIMIZE PROTECTION;
Database altered.
Perform a log switch at the primary DB i.e alter system switch logfile;
SQL> select PROTECTION_MODE from v$database;
PROTECTION_MODE
MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE
SQL> SYNC is a major attributes you need to set, if you want MAXIMUM PROTECTION mode.

Anyone got any idea how to check whether the database
is started using spfile or initfile...Beside this anyway to set it to start by initfile. So that every time when i isued SQL>startup, it will startup using the init file..

Why shouldn't you use the spfile ?
Anyway, you can remove (or rename) it, using an OS command. Normally it is in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs (Unix/Linux) or ORACLE_HOME\database (Windows). In the same directory you must have the initSID.ora file, if you don' want to specify it when starting the DB up.
Of course you know that without spfile you cannot do any permanent changes to dynamic parameters.

Question reg sample init files??

I was looking for sample init files
I found the following files in Windows
initsmpl.ora under C:\Oracle10g\product\10.2.0\admin\sample\pfile
initdw.ora under C:\Oracle10g\product\10.2.0\dbs
and in UNIX AIX
-rw-r----- 1 oracle dba 8385 Sep 11 1998 init.ora
-rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 12920 May 03 2001 initdw.ora
under /oracle/OraHome2/dbs
I can see initdw.ora for datawarehouse databases
I have following questions
1.Are these are the only files I have mentioned are there or are there any more
sample files i have missed?
2. initsmpl.ora or init.ora are for which kind of databases ?General purpose or OLTP or?

2 There are no special files are created for OLTP or DatawareHouse DataBases.
These files are unique for different type of database you may choose. Only the parameters values will be
adjusted based on the Environment upon which we create the database. It's parameters changes during the
Course of Tuning of your database.

Can't find init file for Database

Hi,
I just installed 9i R2 on Redhat 7.3 and when I create a database with dbca, the db is created and up running fine. However, when I shut the db down and try to restart it, it says 'Can't find init file for Database "db_name"'. Anyone got any ideas?

While connected as sysdba issue :
CREATE PFILE FROM SPFILE;
--This creates an initSID.ora file under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
You can edit this file to modify any init parameters.
To have the effect this these new parameters startup the database with:
STARTUP PFILE=$ORACLE_HOME/initSID.ora.
To create spfile with the modified values use:
CREATE SPFIL FROM PFILE;
Once you create the SPFILE and when you start the db, SPFILE will be used.

KJS supports a "-init file " commandline option.
