Cluster for mail server

Hi
SCAN is typically used for RAC.is there any similar thing can be used for qmail / zimbra CS?ZCS has option for ZCS archived server which is usually implemented REDHAT cluster.Can we implement it with other cluster eg. lasture cluster Or anyother?

I got tons of above two errors, thanks for the suggestion of deletion and re-creation of existing A record - it worked
nicely for me. No more errors so far.

Maximum users for mail server

HI I just wanted to see how many users people had on their systems.. i am looking a the 2-quad core xserve, with 16gb ram 3 15,000 rpm disks in raid 5. I currently have 700 users but and i want this server to last until i at least double the users can anyone out there verify they have 1-2K users without a problem? Apple sales claims that it shouldn't be a problem. thanks! chrissy

You don't say what other services you will be hosting so its difficult to give any clear advice?
If you are looking at an Open Directory Master Role for your server with networked home folders then look to balance the load with another server every 60-180 users. This is a loose figure as a lot will depend on the quality and speed of the network as well as client usage. 300 Primary School children won't have as much impact probably as a Design Studio of 10-20 Designers using Photoshop and the rest as well as 3D rendering and some Video production.
I can't really comment on Mail Services at that figure. Seems to work fine with the amount of users of my experience which varies site to site, anything from 5 to 80 Users.
Hopefully there will be others who can offer more insight regarding other services such as Web etc.
If you were wondering about iCal, Wiki and Blog these are new features and I doubt if there is anyone yet with experience of that amount of users? Perhaps you'll be the first? Let us know how you get on.

VersaMail - "Unable to resolve name" error for mail server

I've had an intermittent but frequent problem with VersaMail when I try to connect to get my email. I frequently get the following message:
"Unable to resolve name pop.mindspring.com. Check your DNS settings or enter the IP address for your mail server."
I also get it occasionally for my Yahoo.com mail addresses as well, so it's not unique to Mindspring.com. Sometimes it happens a lot, but sometimes I get right in with no problems, so the settings I have appear to work - when they want to. Needless to say, it's frustrating and annoying, so if anyone has a way to resolve this, I'd appreciate knowing it.

Problem solved! I had Googled for answers and had found an explanation of DNS servers on another forum where someone was having a similar problem. It seems that DNS servers simply take the domain name we use and search for the IP address for that domain name, then hook us up to that IP address. The error message I was getting was that I needed to check my DNS settings or enter the IP address, so it seemed only logical to me that if I could bypass those goofy DNS servers with their "now I'll do it, now I won't" bad attitude, perhaps I could connect directly with the mail servers. Your tip on how to find the IP address of the mail servers by pinging them was the missing piece I needed. I deleted the POP and SMTP server names for each account I'd set up in VersaMail, replacing them with the appropriate IP addresses, and I can now connect reliably with any of the servers, first time, every time - and lightning fast.

Dns setting require for mail server 2013

I have install exchange server 2013 and working fine but right now i have some change in DNS server record and my mail services stop. what record add to start my mail services ( sent and received). till now exchange server mail box give the error mail not
connected with server. Please revered ASAP.

couple of things to notice. if you saying your exchange services stopped... this wont happen because of DNS or are you saying you exchange is not working/mail flow.
now i would suggest to quickly check the mail services. run a test for inbound and outbound at exrca.com there you will have the proper answer that what you have missed.
and at last.. for DNS.. you need MX and A record for your email server for basic functioning .. and for autodiscover couple of more. lets verify the MX and A record first and then verify the send and receive connector. to verify MX do a Nslookup as below
>cmd
>nsloookup   {This should resolve to your local DNS if you running this from exchange server, which is recommended and should not time out}
>set type=mx
> your-domain.com {This should result "A" record / FQDN of your mail server}
> set type=A {To verify the above FQDN should point to right IP}
> mail.your-domain.com [assuming that in MX output you got mail-your-domain.com]
> 1.1.1.1 [IP of your email server]
if you are able to verify above then your chances are you dont have issue with DNS.
Make sure from oursite you are able to telnet t tour exchange server on port 25 and from inside you are able to resolve names from your exchange server and also have internet access.if you able to verify till this point then its the turn now to verify send
and receive connector. one easy way is exrca.com and then share the results.

How should I partition 10 gig HD for Mail Server???

I plan on making a mail server but I am not sure what partitions to use. I have a 10 gig HD, and I dont want to partition it wrong then have no idea how to go back and redo the partitions without reinstalling. I was thinking something like:
/ = 2gig
swap = 512mb
/opt = 3gig
/export/home = 4 gig
Any idea what steps I should take first to creating a mail server? I still can't find the pop and imap server packages.

For POP3, I suggest qpopper from Eudora. www.eudora.com/qpopper.
It virtually installed itself and seems to work fine right from the start. Now if I could only figure out how to get Sendmail to work with SMTP. All my Internet mail gets refused by Sendmail, incoming and outgoing.

Host name for mail server

Hi,
i am developing an application in which i can read the inbox of my outlook.
my problem is that i am not able to connect mail server and getting 'messaging Exception' as
A remote host did not respond within the time out period .
I think i am not able to give the HOST name correctly .
How can i get the host name and from where?

You can get the hostname by clicking on the account properties in outlook, but the port you connect to must be opened by your system admin.

OS/hw based failover cluster for WebLogic Server 9.2 Standard Edition

Is it possible to run WebLogic Server 9.2 SE on OS/hardware based cluster?
I want to get an simple failover environment on a cluster of 2 nodes (active-passive).
Oracle Database can be run in such scenario with one license with a limit of up time for passive instance.
Is it the same with WLS licences?

The problem doesn't look like it has anything to do with wappers per se. The stack indicates that the JVM died when the persistent store tried to invoke a standard Java synchronize operation. JVM crashes need to be analyzed by a JVM expert, so I second the suggestion to solicit help from JVM experts and/or filing a case with customer support. In the mean-time, you can probably work-around the issue by either (A) ensuring you have a recent version of the JVM installed, or (B) temporarily switching to the Sun JVM.

Can't find correct hostname for mail server

I'm having trouble finding what I'm supposed to put in the "hostname" field for in- and outgoing e-mail. The e-mail I'm trying to set up is of the format "[email protected]". I have tried with "mail.ardal.skulenett.no" and "mx5.agnitio.no", which was the result I got from running a nslookup on the address (see exact output below). I'm pretty much stumped now, and was hoping someone here could give me some pointers on what to try next.

You'll need to ask your email provider for their exact configuration. Server address, ports if different from default etc.
Each Email provider has their own configuration and only they now how it is set up.
Usually there is some kind of documentation outlining this.

the ports in red i changed accordingly ... eg 80,110,25, etc
the neon green 1 changed for every rule i added... eg: 1,2,3,4,5, etc
for others that need help with similar situation here is a great reference website that helped me alot with setting port forwarding , internet sharing , and NAT / PAT on the ASA 5512-x , im sure it works with the updated asa 5505 as well running 8.3+

Simple dmz for mail server

If I have a normal 1700 with a serial and 2 ethernet interfaces, can someone give me an example how to put this exchange server in a dmz ? I could do with a simple config as a pointer

Creating a windows cluster 2012 for sql server 2012 clustered installation

I am trying to create a windows cluster for sql server 2012 clustering on windows server 2012 R2 standard edition-64bit OS
when i perform the test after adding the cluster nodes i get this warning on networking.:Validate the servers can communicate
do i have to enable UDP port 1434?
I enabled ports 3343 on both the server but i still get the error.Please see the image below .Please suggest.

Mail Server Woes

Hey All,
I could use some help debugging Mail on my Mac Mini Server (10.8.2 - All updates installed). Two issues going on: mail is not arriving in the inbox and outgoing mail sent from the server does not arrive at the destination - it doesn't matter if its addressed to an internal email or an outside (gmail) account. I can authenticate with the server fine. All the appropriate mail ports are open (25, 110, 143, 587, 993, 995) on the Airport Extreme. I've tried turning off the Junk Mail settings and it made no difference. I'm open to ideas on where to start trouble shooting? If its helpful, I can include the postfix.conf file.

You need to look at your logs, if things are failing that is the first place to start to see what the system is reporting.
Look at IMAP Log, Mail Server Log, SMTP Log in logs section of Server app.
Also BTW your external DNS name for your mail server is 'mail.eclimb.org' but your server hostname looks to be 'sawtooth.eclimb.org'. Your server may not like that fact and also RFCs state & DNS best practices advise not to use CNAME alias for mail server machine. CNAMEs are OK for things like web & FTP but not SMTP (the MX record).

Anyway look at your logs first while you are doing test emails:
in from Internet,
out from LAN and
between two email addresses in your domain using two hosts inside your LAN (i.e. message never goes out to Internet).

Send E-Mail over two different Mail Server ?

I successfully configured E-Mail in HTML DB according to the How-To "Send E-Mail from HTML DB Applications".
There's one point in our environment that is a little bit special. The HTML DB application should work for two companies. So it works for company A because every message is sent to the corresponding Mail Server. Of course messages to company B are rejected because the Mail Server of company A is not configured to accept these messages ( relaying denied... ). Is this a Mail Server administration issue or is there a possibility to implement an if then else functionality for Mail Server in HTML DB ?

htmldb_mail supports a single mail server per htmldb instance. if you want to call different mail servers, consider sending the emails via your own calls to utl_smtp. there's a pretty simple example of that code at...

Mail Server Configuration in Planning

Hi,
We have installed all the Hyperion Products and developed a planning application.
Now we want to configure the mail server.
Do we need to run the Configuration Utility for mail server configuration or any other way to configure the mail server?
while running the configuration utility, if we use the existing RDBMS tables instead of dropping or creating new table....our application will retain or will it cause any problem to our exsting application?

Hi,
If you just talking about the email functionality within planning then you can set it up in planning itself.
Log into the application as an admin owner, administration > application settings > enter SMTP server in the Email Server section. save.
File > Preferences > Enter Email-address and Enable E-mail notification.
