Cluster node panic on booting

Hi
I have setup a two nodes cluster with sun cluster 3.1 u4 on sun v890+StorageTek6140.On the cluster runs oracle RAC with oracle 10g+clusterware.
When all thing finished ,I mirrored the bootdisk with SVM on the nodes, but during boot in solaris,it panic like this:

  • SC 3.2 second node panics on boot

I am trying to get a two node (potentially three if the cluster works :) ) cluster running in a solaris 10 x86 (AMD64) environment. Following are the machine specifications:
    AMD 64 single core
    SATA2 hdd partitioned as / (100+gb), swap (4gb) and /globaldevices (1gb)
    Solaris 10 Generic_127112-07
    Completely patched
    2 gb RAM
    NVidia nge nic
    Syskonnect skge nic
    Realtek rge nic
    Sun Cluster 3.2
    Two unmanaged gigabit switches
The cluster setup would look like the following:
DB03 (First node of the cluster)
    db03nge0 -- public interconnect
    db03skge0 -- private interconnect 1 -- connected to sw07
    db03rge0 -- private interconnect 2 -- connected to sw09
    /globaldevices -- local disk
DB02 (Second node of the cluster)
    db02nge0 -- public interconnect
    db02skge0 -- private interconnect 1 -- connected to sw07
    db02rge0 -- private interconnect 2 -- connected to sw09
    /globaldevices -- local disk
DB01 (Third node of the cluster)
    db01nge0 -- public interconnect
    db01skge0 -- private interconnect 1 -- connected to sw07
    db01rge0 -- private interconnect 2 -- connected to sw09
    /globaldevices -- local disk
All external/public communication happens at the nge0 nic.
Switch sw07 and sw09 connects these machines for private interconnect.
All of them have a local disk partition mounted as /globaldevices
Another fourth server which is not a part of the cluster environment acts as a quorum server. The systems connect to the quorum server over nge nic. the quorum device name is cl01qs
Next, I did a single node configuration on DB03 through scinstall utility and it completed successfully. The DB03 system reboot and acquired quorum vote from the quorum server and came up fine.
Then, I added the second node to the cluster (running the scinstall command from the second node). The scinstall completes successfully and goes down for a reboot.
i can see the following from the first node:
    db03nge0# cluster show

This panic and reboot cycle keeps on going unless I place the second node in non-cluster mode. The output from both the nodes looks like the following:

The only thing which is coming to my mind is that the skge driver is somehow causing the problem while it is a part of the cluster interconnect. Don't know, but another thread somewhere on the internet was facing a similar problem:

    Any help is much appreciated.

I'm not sure I can solve your problem but I have some suggestions that you might want to consider. I can't find anything in the bugs database that is identical to this, but that may be because we haven't certified the adapters you are using and thus never came across the problem.
Although I'm not that hot on kernel debugging, looking at the stack traces seems to suggest that there might have been a problem with MAC addresses. Can you check that you have the equivalent of local_mac_address = true set, so that each adapter has a separate MAC address. If they don't it might confuse the cl_com module which seems to have had the fault.
If that checks out, then I would try switching the syskonnect adapter to being the public network and making the nge adapter the other private network. Again, I don't think any of these adapters have every been tested so there is no guarantee they will work.
Other ideas to try are to set the adapters to not auto-negotiate speeds, disable jumbo frames, check that they don't have any power saving modes that might put them to sleep periodically, etc.
Let us know if any of these make any difference.

  • Help with a Blind Configuration of a G5 Cluster node

So I bought 2 G5 Cluster Nodes to dedicate some audiovisual processes to them. My only other mac computer is a Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro.
Using Pacifist, I was able to do a clean install of Mac OSX onto the internal drive by putting it into an external enclosure.
Now here is my problem: The cluster nodes have no videocard.
I plan on using them through the OSX Screen Sharing function, when they will be conencted to the network, but I don't know how to do the initial configuration of Mac OS X on them, since I can not boot from a system using the Apple Partition Map on my Macbook pro, and the Cluster node will not boot from the GIUD partition scheme.
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

Assuming you're running Mac OS X Server on the cluster node, just boot the server normally - it will run a special first-time-boot process that sets up a network listener.
You can then install the Server Admin tools on your MacBook Pro and run Server Assistant. Server Assistant will look out over the network and find the new servers, then give you the opportunity to configure them remotely (assign account data, IP address, etc.).
(note you can also do this as part of the initial install process - boot the server from the Install DVD and run the entire OS installation and configuration remotely via Server Assistant)
Note: If you're not running Mac OS X Server on the cluster nodes then the above doesn't apply

  • Cluster node fails after testing removing both interconnects in a two node

    Hi,
cluster node panics and fails to join cluster after testing removing both interconnects in a two node cluster. cluster is up on one node , but the panic'ed node fails to rejoin cluster saying no sufficient quorum yet and both clinterconn failed (even after conencting the interconn). Quorum device used is a shared disk.
    Is this a bug?
    Any workaround or solution?
    Cluster is 3.2 SPARC
    Thanking you
    Ushas Symon

Sounds like a networking problem to me. If the failed node genuinely can't communicate with the remaining node then it will not be allowed to join the cluster, hence the quorum message. I would suspect either:
    * Misconnected cables
    * A switch that has block or disabled the port
    * A failed auto-negotiation
This is of course without knowing anything about what your network infrastructure actually is!

  • Help, node panic in the sun cluster 3.3.

We have a 2-node cluster which are connected to the same storage.
The resource owner of the cluster lost its power accidently, but it caused another node in the cluster panic.
We have checked the log of the panic node. It said "reservation conflict" before panic.
Does anybody know what is wrong ?

    Hi.
What storage use as shared ?
How many path have every node to this storage ?
Cluster node reserve storage LUN for dedicated access ( storage reservation) but at failover spare nodes can't set reservation for shared devices that cause panic.
    Check this settings and recomendation:
    https://blogs.oracle.com/js/entry/prevent_reservation_conflict_panic_if

  • Node panic

    Dual-node cluster configuration.
To take the node off , I run:
    scswitch -S -h node1
    and then
    reboot -- -x
    The second node panics immediately.
    What's wrong?
    tia
UPD: reboot -- -x was a mistake. The right command is
    shutdown -g0 -y -i0
    and then
    boot -x from the OBP

I prefer to use scstat -q to check it.
And I think it's worth to include this step in the documentation - Chapter 3 of "Sun Cluster System Administration Guide for Solaris OS", "Hot to Shut Down a Cluster Node". Currently it doesn't mention a checking of the quorum status.
    Thank you,

  • Random kernel panic at boot

    Hello guys,
I recently installed Arch to my GF's laptop because she wanted to learn some stuff about how to use it, how it works etc... Unfortunately, there are some (seems like) random kernel panics at boot, I haven't found if it's related to some event or not because I've been trying to reboot it 10x in a row or after a whole day of usage etc. to find out if it's caused by some action but it still seems to be random during the boot. Inspecting the stack trace confused me even more because it doesn't look same with each panic. I captured 3 of them for example (sorry, haven't found a way to get them in text format since they are not stored on disk :-/ ):

Reinstalling the system didn't helped (tried it like 3x), current system is fresh fully updated arch that I installed 2 days ago, There's only basic system with KDE, opensource ati drivers, cpufreq and blacklisted modules (pcspkr, bluetooth, toshiba_bluetooth), I made no other modifications (hopefully) which may affect the system boot.
    Here is the system info:

  • Automatic reboots in cluster nodes

    Hi all,
I have installed sun cluster 3.3 on intel x86 machine in Vmware. I have 2 nodes.
Both the nodes reboot automatically or hang after some time.
Can you please tell the cause and how to troubleshoot it.
The memory assigned to both the nodes in VM is 1300 MB each.

So first I should point out that this is not an officially supported configuration which means there may be any number of issues that exist with this configuration. Having said that, I know that some people have made use of similar sorts of configurations.
To get a root cause, you need to look at the message logs (/var/adm/messages) for both nodes. See if there is anything to do with either loss of quorum or heartbeat tick timeouts. Both of those can lead to node panics. Once you have that information, it will be easier to search for a potential resolution.

  • Reformatting a XServe G5 Cluster Node

I got my hands on a pair of G5 cluster nodes (the ones with a single drive bay and no optical) and I need to intall Mac OSX server on it. I tried removing the hard drive and using my macBook Pro to install to it, but I can't install mac Os X using the apple partition map, since I am working from and intel machine.
The G5 Cluster node has no video card so I can't even plug in my external reader and install it from there.
A Little Help Please? I am not a server guy, I'm a video guy but this happens to have fallen into my hands.
    Thanks,
    Charles

    Hey Chuck,
You can install whatever partition map you need from the OS X Server installer. Before you begin the installation, go to "Utilities" and open Disk Utility.
Select the server's hard drive (be careful NOT to select your MacBook's drive, you don't want to erase that). Go to the "Partition" tab. Select "1 Partition" from the Volume Scheme popup. Then click on the "Options" button and and select "Apple Partition Map". Hit Apply. This should ensure that your XServe has the appropriate boot record.

  • After reboot cluster node went into maintanance mode (CONTROL-D)

    Hi there!
I have configured 2 node cluster on 2 x SUN Enterprise 220R and StoreEdge D1000.
Each time when rebooted any of the cluster nodes i get the following error during boot up:

    In maintanance mode i do:
    # fsck -y -F ufs /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0
and it managed to correct the problem ... but problem occured again after each reboot on each cluster node!
I have installed Sun CLuster 3.1 on Solaris 9 SPARC
How can i get rid of it?
    Any ideas?

Just as the subject says - can I use a cluster node as a secondary metedata controller, or do I need to use an Xserve? We already have an Xserve we would use as the primary controller

I have done this and attached the node to my iBook by firewire and booted the node in target mode and set the ServerHD as the startup for my iBook. Upon restart my iBook was an OSX server

  • Local NFS / LDAP on cluster nodes

    Hi,
I have a 2-node cluster (3.2 1/09) on Solaris 10 U8, providing NFS (/home) and LDAP for clients. I would like to configure LDAP and NFS clients on each cluster node, so they share user information with the rest of the machines.
I assume the right way to do this is to configure the cluster nodes the same as other clients, using the HA Logical Hostnames for the LDAP and NFS server; this way, there's always a working LDAP and NFS server for each node. However, what happens if both nodes reboot at once (for example, power failure)? As the first node boots, there is no working LDAP or NFS server, because it hasn't been started yet. Will this cause the boot to fail and require manual intervention, or will the cluster boot without NFS and LDAP clients enabled, allowing me to fix it later?

Thanks. In that case, is it safe to configure the NFS-exported filesystem as a global mount, and symlink e.g. "/home" -> "/global/home", so home directories are accessible via the normal path on both nodes? (I understand global filesystems have worse performance, but this would just be for administrators logging in with their LDAP accounts.)
For LDAP, my concern is that if svc:/network/ldap/client:default fails during startup (because no LDAP server is running yet), it might prevent the cluster services from starting, even though all names required by cluster are available from /etc.

  • Setup of G5 Cluster Node as a Standalone Server....

I have tried to no avail to try and setup a G5 XServer cluster node as a new Mac OS X 10.6 server. Here is where I screwed up - I pulled the drive out not realizing that creating a new partition on my Mac Book Pro would not be compatible and toasted the partition or rather made it so it was intel based instead of Power PC based and further went about installing the OS via "target mode" and went all the way through and realized that the server would not recognize it. So tonight I went back created 2 new partitions on the drive made them Power PC based but the server still does not recognize the drives when I boot up using the Option key. I get 2 buttons (refresh and I'm guessing a next) but the refresh puts up a clock for about 10 - 15 seconds and comes back and the next does nothing visible.
Here is what I have tried so far:
    1) Tried booting up with the different boot commands
    a) #3 Start up from internal drive
    b) #5 Setup in Target mode but I don't have a PowerPC Mac to install from
    3) #6 Reset NVRam
    2) Boot with the letter "c" but nothing happens other then getting to a window with a single folder that alternates between a question and the mac guy logo (sorry don't know the exact name)
    3) Boot with a Fire Wire external BluRay DVD player but does not seem to recognize it at all (could be the BluRay I guess have not thought of that)
And I'm sure I have tried a few other things but currently at wits end. I have a video card (3rd one was the charm) so I have video but have no idea how to get my Mac OS X Server software installed on this machine....
Any help or suggest would be greatly appreciated - oh I'm sure by now you know I'm new to Macs - I was an old Apple ][e guy but have been on PCs since the late 80's and finally got back to Apple - love them.

I have tried to no avail to try and setup a G5 XServer cluster node as a new Mac OS X 10.6 server.
    Stop right there.
10.6 is Intel-only. It won't boot a PowerPC-based server. It doesn't matter about the disk format, or anything else. 10.5.x is as far as you can go with this machine.

  • Xserve Cluster node does not (really) switch on

    Hi.
I've got a pretty strange problem.
Today, after a long break, I have tried to switch on my Xserve G5 cluster node. The yellow ID light was constantly on, the power light was white, machine was powered on, and nothing happened. It did not boot, did not fail -- just sat there with both lights on.
Then, I tried to get into OF by using panel lights method -- it didn't work. No matter how long I was keeping status button pressed after a power on, nothing happened -- none of the activity lights were on or flashing.
Next thing I tried to do was to reset a PMU.
After that the situation is exactly the same except that the power light is no longer on -- although the machine starts up and the status light is on. I am still not able to enter any OF commands using front panel.
All in all, it looks like the bootstrap processor is on, but none of the G5s is getting up (for example, even if I take out all of the memory, nothing changes and no failures are indicated)
    Any ideas?

    Try this:
1 - Remove the battery from the machine for 24 hours. Replace.
    2 - Reset the PMU.
    3 - Try to boot.
If you still have a problem, disconnect the firewire cable from the front panel. Try to boot.
If you STILL have a problem, you're at the hardware change stage. It could be a number of problems, but it's likely either the main logic board, the power supply, or the front panel board.

  • Cluster node as a server

Is setting up a cluster node as a stand alone file server possible? What would it take?

Main concern is if there is a firmware stop point that expects a physical or logical link to a normal server before a cluster node will boot
OK, I'm confused. What makes you think a cluster node isn't a normal server?
The only difference between the XServe Cluster Node and the XServe (at least, the PowerPC one it's based on) is the single drive bay (vs.3) and lack of optical drive. That's it. It comes with the same version of the OS. The same ports, runs the same apps and does the same thing as the non-cluster node version.
Can a cluster node be put into firewire mode with the T option, followed by a drive restore from a pre-configured Mac X server disk image....avoiding all the command line stuff. Or for that matter...just wapping out the drive with a pre-configured Mac X server drive?
Sure. The only thing you can't do it put a second drive inside the machine since, by definition, it only has a single drive bay.
