Cluster startup parameter configuration change.

Hi All,
Could you please suggest steps to change SQL startup parameter in windows server 2008. I'm having patrol agent service configured in order to monitor the SQL instance, But due to mis-configuration patrol instance startup parameter is wrongly configued in
windows cluster. I am not quite sure..how to go on to sort it out.
Please suggest do i need to take downtime as well.

We are going to have to have a fair bit more information, as your problem statement does not make much sense.  And, if you are asking specifics about SQL, it is better to ask questions in a SQL forum.  There is actually a SQL forum dedicated to
high availability.
In either case, though, you will need to clarify what you mean.  What makes you think you need to change the SQL start up parameters?  You seem to be indicating issues with configuring a 'patrol agent', whatever that is.  Maybe the vendor
can help you get that right.  Are you sure that your issues are not around the 'patrol agent' and not around SQL startup parameters?  Since we really don't know what you are trying to do, we don't know if it will cause downtime or not.

  • SQL 2012: change startup parameter without GUI

I would like change SQL startup parameter like -l, -d,-e without using SQL Server Configuration Manager. I want to use command line...how can I do it ?

If its SQL server 2008 R2 SP2 and higher we have DMV(dm_server_registry). As the Registry holds the startup parameters can be different for different
instances using dm_server_registry DMV will return the correct path for startup parameters.
    select * from sys.dm_server_registry where value_name like 'SQLArg%'
SQLArg0 identifies the master db data file.
    SQLArg1 identifies the Errorlog folder.
SQLArg2 identifies the master db log file.
    xp_regwrite to change startup parameter.

hi i'm a colleague of Mirza.
We have modified the web.xml and now server is asking for password. We dont want to specify a particular role name in authorization-constraint. We need all our authenticated users to access the application. When i remove the auth-constraint tag from the web.xml it does not not allow the user to acess the application and gives me the error "Access to the specified resource has been forbidden". To remedy this we have created a group called "authenticated" in our ldap directory server and put all the users in that group. Now even though i'm specifying in auth-constraint .. the role-name to be "authenticated" but its still not granting the user permission to the access the application.
here is the snippet of my web.xml
    <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>PAMS</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    <http-method>GET</http-method>
    <http-method>POST</http-method>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <auth-constraint>
    <role-name>authenticated</role-name>
    </auth-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>BASIC</auth-method>
    <realm-name> ldap</realm-name>
    </login-config>
    <security-role>

    </security-role>
I need to know what ever I am doing is correct.

  • CF 7 cluster does not respond to configuration changes

I am evaluating the clustering capabilities of CF 7 in order
to upgrade our current CF6 + ClusterCats cluster.
I installed CF7 (enterprise edition – multiserver) in
two physical servers (Win 2003). On each server I created one
instance of CF and successfully registered the remote instance on
each server. Then, I configured the cluster on the first server,
selecting the weighted random algorithm for load balance and
session replication. Then, I used the webserver configuration tool
to bind the cluster to each IIS server.
The cluster worked properly, balancing the load between the
two cf instances, but when trying to find a way to temporally
restrict the load on one server for maintenance purposes I found
that the cluster does not respond to cluster configuration changes.
I changed the load to 0-100% using the coldfusion administrator
interface but it did not work. The cluster still sends requests to
the “restricted” instance. I even eliminated that
instance from the list of instances that integrates the cluster,
but it did not affect the behavior of the cluster. The eliminated
instance still serves request from the cluster. I even eliminated
the remote instance register and nothing… the cluster still
balancing the load between the two instances that originally
    integrated the cluster.
I do not understand how this is supposed to work. Does the
cluster configuration interface works only when creating the
cluster? When the changes in the cluster configuration performed
from the CF admin interface should be reflected by the behavior of
the cluster? What is the recommended procedure to temporally
restrict one instance from the cluster without stopping the
    service?
    I appreciate your help
    Eduardo

Thanks for the information Jochem. I am afraid that these are
not good news. If I have to restart the webserver in order to
change the load balance, some requests in progress could be lost.
My current configuration is composed by two physical severs,
each one running a web server and a coldfusion instance. We balance
the load between both webservers using hardware load balancing.
This is the procedure that I have to follow in order restrict one
    instance without loosing any request:
1.- Change server weight using Coldfusion admin interface
2.- Configure hardware load balance to restrict server 1
3.- Restart webserver at server 1
4.- Configure hardware load balance to enable server 1 and
    restrict server 2
5.- Restart webserver at server 2
6.- Configure hardware load balance to enable server 2
A similar procedure should be followed in order to enable the
restricted instance. I know that I can do it for 2 servers; but,
how is it handled in larger clusters? Is there a better procedure
to restrict one instance without missing requests?
    Eduardo

  • "Configuration changed. Restart the system" and then reboot on startup.

I have disabled WiMax in BIOS setup and now my x121e doesn't boot at all - just says that "Configuration changed. Restart the system" and reboots. When i press F1 to access bios setup - nothing happens. CMOS reset didn't help/

In service center they said that motherboard is glitchy and needs replacement.
So it was a hardware fault.

  • Lync13 RTCLocal Startup Parameter is invalid, -k

On your Lync server go to:
    SQL Server Configuration Manager
      SQL Server Services
      SQL Server (RTCLOCAL), view properties
        Startup Parameters tab
In our Lync environment I have a startup parameter of: -k3
What does this switch do? SCOM complains that its invalid and a general search on SQL start parameters show -k isn't valid so what gives.
The only link I've come across which appears relevant is for a KB to SQL 2005, here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929240
I've noted it across servers and on both LYNCLOCAL and RTCLOCAL.
Hosts are WinSvr2012. I have noted this switch does not exist for Lync Server 2010 on WinSvr2k8R2SP1. Will check another Lync 13 environment when I get to work.. Anyone else notice this or is the one environment I'm looking at special ??
    Cheers

You're not special. :)  That's typical.  I haven't done a deep dive on what all it does, but the installer sets that value so I wouldn't suggest changing it, I'd just tell SCOM to ignore the error (in fact, this is what I usually do).

  • Help me configure Change request management !!!

    Dear friends,
I am Going to Configure Change request Management, so just to ensure that the configuration is not erronous, i would need Expert advise..
Just want to know Clear few things before i proceed..
I am also refering SPRO and related notes
    Scenario :
I have two SYSTEMS SAP ECC 6.0 with System id R03 and Soluiton manager with SYSTEM id SOL,
    R03 has 3 clients, 300 600 700..
In R03 300 is the development client, 600 is quality client, 700 is the production client.
    SOL has 2 clients, 100, 200
With 200 as the production client.
Q.1) <b>Do i have to configure CHARM in both the client (100 and 200 of SOLMAN).</b>
Q.2) Initially I had tried to set CHARM in client 100 of solman, but later on realized that it has to be set up in client 200.
When i logon to client 200 and  Execute IMG activity Spro-> sap soltion manger->basic settings-> sap solution manager system->activate integration with change request management.
Then by default it take the previous client ( client 100) as the change request management client.
( as we know there are three steps in the above activity ), the other activity are executed properly, only prblem being that the default client is always set to 100, which should not be the case).
I do get the prompt saying ( "The change request clent is set to clent 100, do u want to change to client 200, on clicking yes, still it is always set the same client 100 as charm client ")
<b>Plz let me know what do i do to set the change request client to 200??</b>
Q.3) Regarding TMS, we have local domain controller in solman and local domain in R3.
We are planing to establish domain links between the two systems( ie both the domain controllers) ??
Is this the right strategy ??
<b>Any other method that u can recommend  ??</b>
Q.4)One of the IMG activity says, Generate Destinations to client 000 of all the domain controllers..
Whenever i do this these, destinations are created with errors, i am not able to create trusted RFC destinations without errors.
When i logon to satellite domain controler and excecute sm59 there are 2 destinations created Trusted and BACK.
    These destinations works well,
but when i logon to Solman, got to sm59 , when i test the TMW and TRUSTED rfc destinations  i test these destinations using Remote Logon i get error,
" no authorization to logon as trusted system"
I went thru one note which recomended Kernel upgrades to solve the problem,
I r3 my kernel relaese is 700 with patch level 56, the note recomends to apply patch 80, did u have these problems??
<b>what is your kernel patch levels in sateliite and solman systems.</b>
Q.5) TO be able to raise tickets from R3 to solman we create RFC destinations.
We also create RFC destinations to client 000 of all the sateliite system,
<b>dont u think these RFC destinations might interfere with each other??</b>
Q.6) Is there anyone who has successfully configured CHARM. Can you plz share the  configuration documents with me..
    Please note :
<b>All the contributors would be handesomely rewarded with points .</b>

    Hi,
    Check this
    Note 128447 - Trusted/Trusting Systems
    For your Q4.
    Q3.)
Establishing Domain link - That's the right way. Go ahead.
    These are the steps.
<b>1.Define Transport Routes for System Landscape</b>
assign exactly one development system to a production system, and that these two systems are connected by exactly one unique transport track. If a development system and a production system are connected by more than one transport track, this may lead to inconsistencies within the transport distribution. This type of transport configuration cannot be supported by Change Request Management, and may cause inconsistencies within the tools involved.
    <b>2. Activate Extended Transport Control</b>
The CTC parameter should be '1'
    <b>3.Configure Transport Strategy</b>
    Deactivate the QA Approval.
    <b>4. Activate Trusted Services.</b>
    5.Activate Domain Links.
You have to activate domain link between systems.
    6. Generate RFC Destinations to Client 000
    Hope this helps.
    feel free to revert back.

    Hi Experts,
I need to configured the sender and reciever FTP Adapter to Archive a 37 MB text file within a FTP server.
It is taking 20 min to archive the file.
does this requirement requires any change in Parameter configuration(like transfer mode, channel availabilty planning( i am using daily with duration 30 min) to make it fast.
    Thank you,

    Hi Experts,
To archive huge files using FTP adapter, i looked at the Michal weblog to zip the file :

please explain how and where to write the below file
    @ECHO OFF
    7za.exe a -tzip D:\file_cat\%2.zip %1
    del %1
    and also explain
Zipping a file can also be done with jar.
    For example,
    jar cvf m.zip m.txt
    will zip m.txt into m.zip
No need for any other software as jar is highly likely to be on the XI/PI server...
and how to implement it in the FTP  adapter configuration.

According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you deleted  columns in SharePoint 2010.
Please add the following string in <system.web> section of your web.config file :

  • Diskgroup not mounted during cluster startup

    Hi,
    I have a 2 node RAC(11GR2) on VMWare 7.1.4. OS is Solaris 10
I have registered 2 instances in the cluster.
    srvctl add database -d dbrac -o /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 -a "extdg,nordg"
    srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2 -n vmsol2
    srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1 -n vmsol1
After after registering the 2 instances, initially the instance were automatically up when ever I execute a ./crsctl start cluster.
But now the database instances on both nodes are not comming up; only ASM is up.
While checking ASM disk group, I found EXTDG and NORDG is not mounted. So I mounted the disk group and started the database.
Then I manually mounted, the disk groups and started the database.
    SQL> alter diskgroup nordg mount;
    Diskgroup altered
    SQL> alter diskgroup extdg mount;
Later I tried removing the the database configuration from the cluster using SRVCTL and added the database to cluster again.
    srvctl remove instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1
    srvctl remove instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2
    srvctl remove database -d dbrac
    srvctl add database -d dbrac -o /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 -a "extdg,nordg"
    srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2 -n vmsol2
    srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1 -n vmsol1
Still database is not starting during cluster startup.
Why did the disk group is not getting mounted while cluster is starting? Can someone help me?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your replay.
Disk group was mounting previously without doing any modification in spfile after executing the following commands.
    srvctl add database -d dbrac -o /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 -a "extdg,nordg"
    srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2 -n vmsol2
    srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1 -n vmsol1
    But suddenly this issue happened.
I do not have metalink access. Could you please help me?

    4.0 Using alternate root feature
Solaris has the "alternate root" feature for pkgadd and patchadd (the -R switch). Historically that switch was used for diskless clients. You would run the pkgadd/patchadd command on the server to add packages and patches to the diskless client being hosted. It is my understanding that the Solaris "Live Upgrade" feature uses -R in order to perform the Live Upgrade. This means there is an implicit assumption that when patching on an alternate root, you are not operating against a "live" package. I had original used this assumption when coding the scripts that went into patches (prepatch/postpatch/prebackout/postbackout). The JES arch team is now proposing to use the alternate root as a means of doing multi-install (and potentially for non-root install too). It is worth noting that Linux RPMs also has the alternate root concept.
4.1 HOWTO use the alternate root feature (-R)
    * install JES as usual
    * go into the JES installation CD area and find the Messaging packages, typically under arch/Product/messaging_svr/Packages/ where arch is one of
    o Solaris_sparc
    o Solaris_x86
    o Linux_x86
    * install the Messaging packages under an alternate root, e.g. /altroots/root1. I would recommend keeping all your alternate roots under a single well-known location (e.g. /altroots) for ease of locating them in the future. The location of alternate roots are not stored anywhere on the system. Substitute altroot in the examples below with your chosen alternate root location.
    o cd arch/Product/messaging_svr/Packages
o pkgadd -R altroot -d fullpath/arch/Product/messaging_svr/Packages SUNWmsgin SUNWmsgen SUNWmsglb SUNWmsgco SUNWmsgmt SUNWmsgst SUNWmsgmp SUNWmsgwm SUNWmsgmf
+ will install Messaging Server into altroot/opt/SUNWmsgsr
+ Note that you can add the -r switch to change the install location relative to the alternate root
+ Ignore the warning messages that required packages are missing:
o You can now configure and start messaging as usual
    + cd altroot/opt/SUNWmsgsr
    + sbin/configure
    + sbin/start-msg
o The usual packaging commands like pkgparam will work given the -R switch
o In order to patch Messaging, you must first create a few symlinks. This is a one-time setup for each alternate root. The example below assumes the alternate root is altroot
    + mkdir -p altroot/var/sadm/system/admin/
    + cd altroot/var/sadm/system/admin; ln -s /var/sadm/system/admin/INST_RELEASE
    + cd altroot; ln -s /usr
+ Before applyiing the patch, you need to
    # stop services with altroot/opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/stop-msg
    # run stored -r if you are upgrading from pre-6.3: altroot/opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib/stored -r
+ You can now patch messaging, e.g. patchadd -R altroot 118207-51
    * In order to use the system, the installations on the host should be configured so that they don't conflict with each other, specifically the ports. There are two ways to accomplish this:
o configure individual ports, see 4.1.1 below
    o multi-home, see 4.1.2. below
    4.1.1 Configure individual ports
Configure the individual ports so that they are different between the installations: Off the top of my head a list of ports to change are: SMTP, IMAP, POP, HTTPD, ENS, job_controller, watcher, (any more?). Note there are SSL versions for the various ports too. Plus there may be other ports use like SMTP SUBMIT, the best place to look for MTA related processes is the dispatcher.cnf file. store and mshttpd ports are probably in configutil. MMP ports may be in configutil and/or its config files.
    * docs
    * might be a good idea to do grep the masterconfig file (aka lib/config.meta) for "port"
    * configutil variables
    service     configutil variable     default     comments
    watcher     local.watcher.port     49994
    metermaid     metermaid.config.port     63837
    IMAP     service.imap.port     143
    IMAP SSL     service.imap.sslport     993
    POP     service.pop.port     110
    POP over SSL     service.pop.sslport     995
    webmail     service.http.port     80
    webmail SSL     service.http.sslport     443
    ens     local.store.notifyplugin.ensport     7997
    jmq     local.store.notifyplugin.jmqport     7676
    * MTA related ports: SMTP, SMTP submit, SMTP SSL, LMTP: in dispatcher.cnf
    * job controller: in job_controller.cnf
    4.1.2 Multi-Home
Use a different IP address for each installation, and configure the host to be multi-homed (accepting multiple IP addresses). To change the IP address for each installation, run the ha_ip_config utility. Note that you must configure each installation to use a specific IP address, since the out-of-the-box default is to respond to any IP address (INADDR_ANY). There is one service that needs a separate step in order to change the IP address it responds to. This is the ENS server. I'm still looking up how to change the IP address the ENS server responds to. The workaround for now is to either disable (use local.ens.enable) the ENS server for one of the installations or to change the port used by the ENS server. If you don't do this, one of the ENS servers will not start up. This may not be a huge issue at this time since the other ENS server will handle requests.
    * To configure the host to be multihomed: My guess is to edit /etc/hosts, (/etc/inet/ipnodes on Solaris 10 too) and to plumb (ifconfig) the IP addresses to the ethernet addresses. I would think the Linux procedure would be similar. Then update your naming service (/etc/hosts, /etc/inet/ipnodes, NIS and/or DNS) to recognize the new IP address.
    * From the Solaris 2 FAQ
4.10) How can I have multiple addresses per interface?
Solaris 2.x provides a feature in ifconfig that allows having more than one IP address per interfaces.
Undocumented but existing prior to 2.5, documented in 2.5 and later.
    Syntax:
    # This command is only required in later releases
    ifconfig IF:N plumb
    ifconfig IF:N ip-address up
where "IF" is an interface (e.g., le0) and N is a number between 1 and . Removing the pseudo interface and associated address is done with
    ifconfig IF:N 0.0.0.0 down
    # In newer release you must use the following command, but
    # beware that this unplumbs your real interface on older
    # releases, so try the above command first.
    ifconfig IF:N unplumb
As with physical interfaces, all you need to do is make the appropriate /etc/hostname.IF:X file.
The maximum number of virtual interfaces, above, is 255 in Solaris releases prior to 2.6. Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 2.5.1 with the Solaris Internet Server Supplement (SISS) allow you to set this value with ndd, upto a hard maximum of 8192.
    /usr/sbin/ndd -set /dev/ip ip_addrs_per_if 4000
There's no limit inspired by the code; so if you bring out adb you can increase the maximum even further.
    4.1.3 Multi-Home Example
An example on my machine budha:
    Create the new interface
    # ifconfig -a
    lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1

4.2 Problems with the alternate root solution
In my Messaging patch, I shut down the services during prepatch.
However, what do you do if you detect that the patch is being done on an alternate root? Consider the scenarios:
    * For a diskless client case, the alternate root is being run on a different machine. I can not try to stop the services in the patch, otherwise it might be try to stop the services on the current machine.
    * The same thing is true for a LiveUpgrade case, the LiveUpgrade partition is not "running".
    * For the multi-install case, I should try to stop the services, because indeed the services are running on the current machine.
    * Also note that for the diskless client/Live Upgrade case the alternate root is mounted in a different location. What is / on the target machine, is mounted (say) as /a on the current machine. Thus absolute symlinks do not point to the "real" place. This is important to me because that is how I find my config/data, i.e. through an absolute symlink. (symlink isn't the issue, I store an absolute path to the config/data).
The point I'm making is that I can not distinguish between the "diskless client/Live Upgrade" and the "multi-install" case. Thus I have to make an assumption whether it is one or the other.
So originally, I would check to see if the patch was being applied on an alternate root, and if it was I would simply not try to stop the services (i.e. I assumed it was the diskless client/Live Upgrade case).
I could change this to assume the multi-intsall case, and go ahead and shut down the services, but I think it is better right now as it is. I will document that the user must stop the services (among other things) when applying the patch to a multi-install case.
This is what I mean by the "conflict" between the use of alternate root for Live Upgrade and multi-install. I can' t remember who I was talking to in iChange (some of their people happened to be in a drop-in in my building), who explained that alternate root means "not running on the current system". Any references to absolute paths may not work, since the alternate root may be mounted on a different location, so you how can you assume that anything live is running?
So perhaps some sort of "check" could be added so that I can determine whether the alternate root is a "mulit-install" location or not. I don't have good ideas on how to do that. After all, it was pointed out that the INSTALL_HOME could be installed on one machine and then mounted on others.
4.2.1 Problem with alternate root with zones?
The following url regarding zones, has the following text:
When patchadd and patchrm are being invoked with the "-R" option, by rule, the patch is destined for either a non Zones environment, a diskless client environment and an alternate root environment. If an admin assigns the argument of "-R" to the root of a local Zone, i.e. -R /export/zone1/root then this type of invocation is not supported and unexpected behaviors will occur. The patch commands will not be able to detect this invalid invocation so documentation should include it as a warning.
    Is this a concern?
5.0 Multiple Instance vs Multiple Install issue
It was pointed out to me by a customer, that there is an issue with pkgadd. If the binaries are installed on a shared file system, then if the system is jumpstarted, the binaries will still exist on the shared file system but the package database will no longer know the the packages were installed. How can this problem be resolved? Some not-thought-through ideas
    * restore from backup as part of jumpstart - not very good, after all jumpstart is for bringing up the node quickly to a known state
    * do the pkgadd as part of jumpstart with the shared filesystem unmounted. Thus the binaries will be shadowed when the shared filesystem is mounted. The downside is the jumpstart scripts must be kept up to date in terms of the patches applied to the binaries on the shared filesystem.
This problem seems to imply the multiple instance concept of the binaries being owned by a single node fits a little better than multiple install idea, where the binaries can be installed on the shared file system, and "floats" across nodes like the config.
    update to this issue
If you put the altroot on the shared filesystem, then the pkg db will also be there, and thus will survive the jumpstart. So that all works out quite nicely!

  • SG 200-08 - configuration changes disappear on power cycling

it's my first smart switch, but i've set up a million routers, so i'm not a complete n00b.
the only change that survived power cycling is the change of default password that it forced me to do.
what am i doing wrong, or is the box defect?

You will need to save your configuration changes before exiting the switch. Below are the steps to do this taken from the Admin guide.

    Copying and Saving Configuration FilesThe
Copy/Save Configuration page enables you to copy files within the filesystem. For example, you can copy the Backup Configuration file to the Startup
Configuration file so that it will be used the next time you boot up the switch.
To copy a file to the Startup or Backup Configuration file:
    STEP 1
Click Administration > File Management > Copy/Save Configuration in thenavigation window.
    STEP 2
    Select the Source File Name:
    Running Configuration
—Current configuration, including any changesapplied in the current management session.
Startup Configuration—Configuration file type used when the switch lastbooted. This does not include any configuration changes applied but not yet
    saved to the switch.
Backup Configuration—Backup configuration file type saved on the switch.
Mirror Configuration—If the Running Configuration is not modified for atleast 24 hours, it is automatically saved to the Mirror Configuration file type,
and a log message with severity level
Alert is generated to indicate that anew Mirror Configuration file is available. The Mirror Configuration file can be
used when the switch has problems booting with the Startup or Backup
Configuration file types. In such cases, the administrator can copy the Mirror
Configuration to either the Startup or Backup Configuration file type and
    reboot.
    STEP 3
For the Destination File Name, select the file type to be overwritten with the file
    you are copying:•
Startup Configuration—Configuration file type used when the switch lastbooted. This does not include any configuration changes applied but not yet
    saved to the switch.
Backup Configuration—Backup configuration file type saved on the switch.
    STEP 4
Click Apply to begin the copy process. When complete, a window displays the message, Copy Operation Successful.

Set up the HFM cluster on the FR Studio machine.
    1. Go to Start > All Programs > Hyperion >Financial Management >Server and Web Configuration
    2. Go to the Server/Cluster Registration tab.
    3. Enter the computer name of the HFM server used to get cluster information or the name of the single server if using a non-clustered environment. The HFM server needs to be referenced exactly as it is on the HFM server (hostname/IP/FQDN/clustername, as well as case-sensitivity for any letters).
    4. Apply and OK.
    5. Restart FR Studio.
Note: if HFM client is not on the FR Studio box, it will need to be installed prior to set up of the HFM cluster as listed above.
