Cluster Without StorEdge

Hi .,
I am new to clustering.
We are having two Sun Sparc 490 R servers with Solaris10 installed
which we are planning to configure as a Two-node cluster.
Can anybody tell me whether is it possible to install the two node cluster without any storEdge..
Thanks & Regards
Suseendran .A

Please check docs.sun.com as Hartmut suggested. It is all documented there.
You can install Sun Cluster software for free on as many systems as you like. However, as soon as you need support, i.e. you are running on a production cluster, you will need to buy the licenses and get a support contract. You will also need to have your installation validated and it would be a good idea to go on the training course too.
However, if you are just a developer, then it is free to use (as you probably don't need any support).

  • How to upload files in cluster without bringing down the cluster.

    Hi,
    Here is my problem:
My weblogic portal 7.0 application should run in 24x7 environment. The production
system is running in a cluster mode with external staging. Both the managed servers
are pointing to the same application sync database.
So to give a solution to this problem, we are trying to bring down one managed
server down and apply the patches into that managed server without bringing down
the other. Since webflow files and entitlements needs to be synchronized with
the portal database. If we perform a sync on the portal database, there might
be a chance that it might corrupt the existing portal database state. Our deployment
would not be complete unless we perform a sync on the other managed servers. So
we could not able to update the latest pathces into the cluster without bringing
    down the cluster.
What I would like to know is "Is there any work around to get rid of this problem?".
I would be delighted if any one provides the solution.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ratnakar

    Hi Ratnakar,
When you perform sync you do it against the admin server which in turn does it
to the managed server. If you want to apply any changes to webflow you can do
it on the live system itself. I mean apply the new webflow and entitlements and
do the sync on the live system. Also while doing sync there are two modes. One
mode will sync only the modified changes and the other will apply all of it. You
can opt for the first option by which you can sync only the modified changes.
This may bring a small disturbance but it will be unnoticed.
The other option is to have two separate domains(each having one admin & one or
more managed servers) which may be having two separate portal databases. In this
way you can apply patches to one domain while other domain may provide the service.

Not with WebLogic session replication. The session replication is "lazy"
(only when something happens) so the best approach is to make sure there are
no imcompatibilities and then cycle the cluster one server at a time, maybe
one server every hour (or whatever your session timeout is).

  • Parameters of NFS in Solaris 10 and Oracle Linux 6 with ZFS Storage 7420 in cluster without database

    Hello,
I have ZFS 7420 in cluster and OS Solaris 10 and Oracle Linux 6 without DB and I need mount share NFS in this OS and I do not know which parameters are the best for this.
Wich are the best parameters to mount share NFS in Solaris 10 or Oracle Linux 6?
    Thanks

    Hi Pascal,
My question is because when We mount share NFS in some servers for example Exadata Database Machine or Super Cluster  for best performance we need mount this shares with specific parameters, for example.
    Exadata

    Now,
    My network is 10GBE
What happen with normal servers only with OS (Solaris and Linux)?
Which parameters I need use for best performance?
or are not necessary specific parameters.

  • Failover cluster without replication

    Hello,
This might be a basic question to many, but I couldn't find a straight answer so ..
is it possible to create a failover cluster with shared storage and without any replication/copies of the databases?
    i.e.:
Create two exchange nodes with two shared luns, make each an owner of a lun and have its database stored in it.
If node1 failed, it's lun and database gets mounted on node2, making node2 the host of both databases until node1 is back online.
if the answer is no, was it possible in 2010?
    Thanks.

Nothing in Exchange does that. Anything that did would be a 3rd party solution and not supported by Microsoft.

  • File Server Failover Cluster without shared disks

i have two servers that i wish to cluster as my Hyper V hosts and also two file servers each with 10 4TB SATA disks, all i have read about implementing high availability at the storage level involves clustering the file servers (e.g SOFS) which require external
shared storage that the servers in the cluster can access directly. i do not have external storage and do not have budget for it.
Is it possible to implement some for of HA with windows server 2012 R2 file servers without shared storage? for example is it possible to cluster the servers and have data on one server mirrored real-time to the other server such that if one server goes
down, the other server will take over processing storage request using the mirrored data?
i intend to use the storage to host VMs for Hyper V fail-over cluster and an SQL server cluster. they will access the shared on the file server through SMB
each file server also has 144GB SSD, how can i use it to improve performance?

There are two ways for you to go:
    1) Build a cluster w/o shared storage using MSFT upcoming version of Windows (yes, finally they have that feature and tons of other cool stuff). We've recently build both Scale-Out File Server serving Hyper-V cluster and standard general-purpose File Server
cluster with this version. I'll blog next week edited content (you can drop me a message to get drafts right now) or you can use Dave's blog who was the first one I know who build it and posted, see :
Windows Server Technical Preview (Storage Replica)
    http://clusteringformeremortals.com
Feature you should be interested in it Storage Replica. Official guide is here:
    Storage Replica Guide
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2014/10/07/storage-replica-guide-released-for-windows-server-technical-preview.aspx
Will do things like on the picture below:
Just be aware: feature is new, build is preview (not even beta) so failover does not happen transparently (even with CA feature of SMB 3.0 enabled). However I think tuning timeout and improving I/O performance will fix that. SoFS failover is transparent
    even right away.
    2) If you cannot wait 9-12 months from now (hope MSFT is not going to delay their release) and you're not happy with a very basic functionality MSFT had put there (active-passive design, no RAM cache, requirement for separated storage, system/boot and dedicated
log disks where SSD is assumed) you can get advanced stuff with a third-party software doing things similar to the picture below:
So it will basically "mirror" some part of your storage (can be even directly-accessed file on your only system/boot disk) between hypervisor or just Windows hosts creating fault-tolerant and distributed SAN volume with optimal SMB3/NFS shares.
    For more details see:
    StarWind Virtual SAN
    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-virtual-san/
There are other guys who do similar things but as you want file server (no virtualization?) most of them who are Linux/FreeBSD/Solaris-based and VM-running are out and you need to check for native Windows implementations. Guess SteelEye DataKeeper (that's
Dave who blogged about Storage Replica File Server) and DataCore.
    Good luck :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Cluster without Cluster?

    Hi,
After the installation of Shake 3.50 and Qadministrator 1.1 my Compressor 1.2.1 can't reach the background process. (Batch Monitor 1.2.1)
I've read many topics about this Problem and it seems pretty difficult so solve it.
    QUESTION:
Can I configure a Cluster in Qadministrator without having one?

This program is going to be for engineering only.  At the moment, I am the only person who would use it, so supplying the element names of the cluster is not a big deal.  Attached is an approach that I thought of, but it will require me to create a lot of cases and a combo box with a lot of slection, since the real program is more complext than the example.  Is there a better way?

  • Upgrading Cluster without switch version

Hello, I just want to be clear to an upgrade I will be performing in future. We have CUCM cluster and want to know if it is possible to do the upgrade on the publisher (without switch version) and then continue to upgrade the subscribers, then switch version on all - or do I need to switch version on publisher before I can continue to update subscribers?
Also, I think that in the past, the upgrade takes a copy of the database when you upgrade, so you need to switch version soon after upgrade or you will loose any changes. Is this remain the case? Is this also the case for UCCX? I remember maybe reading in the past that it does the database differently.
    Thanks to you all

    Hi Ess,
In addition to the great tips from my friend Manish (+5)
You didn't mention the to/from CUCM versions but here is an example
    User Provisioning
For upgrades from Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 6.x, changes that are made to the following user-facing features get preserved after the upgrade completes:
    •Call Forward All (CFA)
    •Message Waiting Indication (MWI)
    •Privacy Enable/Disable
    •Do Not Disturb Enable/Disable (DND)
    •Extension Mobility Login (EM)
    •Hunt Group Logout
    •Device Mobility
•CTI CAPF status for end users and application users
    •Credential hacking and authentication
    •Recording enabling
    •Single Number Reach enabling
    Upgrading a Cluster in Parallel
When you upgrade a cluster that is running a supported version of Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.x to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.5(1),  begin upgrading the first node first. You can begin upgrading  subsequent nodes in parallel after the first node reaches a specified  point in the upgrade.
During the upgrade of the first node, view the installation log,  install_log_.log, by using the Software  Installation/Upgrade window in Cisco Unified Communications Operating System Administration  or the command line interface (CLI). You can begin the upgrade of the  subsequent nodes after the following information displays in the log:
    PRODUCT_TARGET is
    PRODUCT_NAME is
    PRODUCT_VERSION is
You can also use the CLI to search for the relevant information in the install log by following this procedure:
    Procedure
Step 1 List the install logs; for example:
    file list install install_* date
    install_log_2008-10-01.09.41.57.log     install_log_2008-10-08.12.59.29.log
    install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log
    dir count = 0, file count = 3
Step 2 Search the most recent install log for the string PRODUCT_VERSION; for example:
    file search install install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log PRODUCT_VERSION
    Searching path: /var/log/install/install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log
    Searching file: /var/log/install/install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log
    10/14/2008 09:52:14 upgrade_os.sh|PRODUCT_VERSION is 7.1.0.39000-97|
    Search completed
Step 3 When the file search command finds the PRODUCT_VERSION string in the install log, you can start the upgrade of the subsequent nodes.
Caution If  you want to upgrade the subsequent nodes in parallel with the first  node, do not choose the Reboot to upgraded partition on either first  node or subsequent nodes while configuring the upgrade options. If  selected, the first node may complete its upgrade and reboot while the  subsequent nodes are upgrading, which causes the upgrade of the  subsequent nodes to fail.
When you are ready to activate the new version, you must activate the  new software on the first node before activating it on all other nodes. .

  • Toplink in Cluster without Cache Synchronization

    Hello,
I’m trying to setup my J2EE app that uses Toplink for its persistence in a 9iAS cluster. For the first release I’m not planning to use Toplink Cache synchronization but planning to deploy the app in 9iAS cluster of nodes say A and B. By default all the requests goes to one app server (say A) in the cluster. When the app in node A goes down app in node B starts and accepts all the requests transparently. For this scenario:
    1.     Do I need to use any Toplink feature/API?
    2.     What design considerations I need to consider for my app so that I can achieve my short-term goal and the long-term goal of implementing Cache synchronization easily?
    Any references/pointers would help me.
    Thanks
    -Mani

TopLink Cache Coordination (Synchronization) can be enabled at any point during your development. And is not required on a system running in a cluster. No special TopLink API's are required when running in the cluster.
There should be no design decisions made now that would affect the use of Cache Coordination (Synchronization) in the future.

  • OAS Cluster / OC4J Cluster without using LBR ?

    Hi all,
In one of our client running OAS 10.1.3.3, there is requirement for High Availibility, but investing for a hardware LBR may be too much for them on this phase.
We think of doing this : using two nodes for OAS :
    server_1 : OHS1 + OC4J1
    server_2 : OHS2 + OC4J2
for Load Balancing we plan to use MOD_OC4J.
Yes, we cannot do load balance between OHS1 & OHS2, so if server_1/OHS1 fails. Use has to manually access through OHS2.
Without LBR, is there any better solution than this ?
    Thank you,
    xtanto

You can also use Oracle Web Cache product which can not only do load balancing for you but at the same time provide other features like page caching and compression that will improve the performance.

  • How to install BDE cluster without software

In BDE 2.1, it is documented that you can create the guests for a cluster and let the distro management software (such as Ambari) install the cluster.
We are looking to upgrade to 2.1, but currently on 2.0.  Is it possible to simply create the VM's and then install the cluster from Ambari?  We tried installing the cluster, deleting the software (rpm --erase), and restarting the guests.  It looks like BDE reinstalls the software when this happens.
It isn't the end of the world if we can't, as I said, we will upgrade to 2.1 this coming week.  However, is what I have above possible?

Create a Basic Cluster with the Serengeti Command-Line Interface
Yes, You can use BDE 2.0 or 2.1 to create a basic cluster in your Serengeti environment. A basic cluster is a group of virtual machines provisioned and managed by Serengeti. Serengeti helps you to plan and provision the virtual machines to your specifications. You can use the basic cluster's virtual machines to install Big Data applications.
The basic cluster does not install the Big Data application packages used when creating a Hadoop or HBase cluster. Instead, you can install and manage Big Data applications with third party application management tools such as Apache Ambari or Cloudera Manager within your Big Data Extensions environment, and integrate it with your Hadoop software. The basic cluster does not deploy a Hadoop or Hbase cluster. You must deploy software into the basic cluster's virtual machines using an external third party application management tool.
The Serengeti package includes an annotated sample cluster specification file that you can use as an example when you create your basic cluster specification file. In the Serengeti Management Server, the sample specification file is located at /opt/serengeti/samples/basic_cluster.json. You can modify the configuration values in the sample cluster specification file to meet your requirements. The only value you cannot change is the value assigned to the role for each node group, which must always be basic.
You can deploy a basic cluster with the Big Data Extension plug-in using a customized cluster specification file.
To deploy software within the basic cluster virtual machines, use the cluster list --detail command, or runserengeti-ssh.sh cluster_name to obtain the IP address of the virtual machine. You can then use the IP address with management applications such as Apache Ambari or Cloudera Manager to provision the virtual machine with software of your choosing. You can configure the management application to use the user name serengeti, and the password you specified when creating the basic cluster within Big Data Extensions when the management tool needs a user name and password to connect to the virtual machines.

    Hi,
I do not think this is presently feasible. I have filed COH-2374 for tracking purposes requesting an implementation of the host-filter element for the authorized-hosts for cluster-config similar to the host-filter element for authorized-hosts for tcp-acceptor. This would enable the specification of a Filter implementation that would be used to determine if a host should be allowed to join the cluster.
