Clustering and Application/Servlet Singletons...Replicated?

Are static servlet and instance attributes replicated to servlet instances
          in cluster?
          We have seen some behavior which suggest no?
          Assuming all instance and static variables are serializable or atomic types,
          are they replicated?
          If not, how is application/servlet level state replicated? servletcontext?

          Each node will have its own class/classloader tuple and therefore its own set
          of static and instance attributes. The singleton effect can be achieved by

Sharing an object/class bewteen servlets and applications

Hi there,
I wish to know how to share a class/object between all
types of other classes, be they applications or servlets, but I encounter the following problem.
Basically, if I instantiate the common class using, say a servlet, then when I try to gain a handle on the instance of that class from an application, the application creates a new(or it's own) instance. Similarly, if I instantiate first within an application.
How do I prevent this from happening?
The actual class files for both the application and servlets are all the same.

How come? Separate instances of VM?Yes, this is exactly correct. The same is true of C++ Singletons; if you start a second application it will create another instance of the Singleton because one does not yet exist in the application.
How do I get aroun this one?Like I said, think of it as a universal singleton. Consider Verisign a universal singleton--everyone comes to them for certificates. How does this run? Well, truthfully, Verisign operates as a service, right? So you need some way of setting up a service that really holds onto the object and brokers (aha, 5 dollar word!) who has access to it, who can modify it, and who can read from it. This leads you to a few options... RMI, CORBA, or writing your own object server.
Networking is really easy in Java, so here's another option... You can set up a server that listens for messages on a specific socket/port with whatever protocol you specify to get/set values. Have the server run on only one specific machine. Then you can have all the servlets and applications come to the machine to get the information.
Gee, this sounds like a back-end database. =)
If all this is too complex, maybe you need to rethink the design... do you really need to have the exact same object shared between all application/servlet instances? Or is it acceptable to just make sure they all contain the same data?
If what you really want is a real-time data update scheme, then you probably want something like a subscribe-publish architecture where the one server publishes the origainal data. Then when a client updates the server, the server posts an update message to all the clients, who then in turn update their internal data.
Anyway, I'm just throwing out some ideas. I'm sure you can come up with some better ones of your own since you know what your requirements are. =)

M using cpanel support on web server

I have been planning and deploying my companies first Windows Server 2012/SQL Server 2012 Always On cluster and Always On Availability Groups Multi-Subnet cluster and instances for SharePoint 2013, and I will be brutally honest, the documentation on either
the MSDN and TechNet leave alot to be desired. Continually finding links in the documentation will take me from a Windows 2012 reference to a page talking about Windows Server 2008 or R2, The differences of which there are so many when it comes to configurations,
settings, roles, services when working with SQL Server 2012. I have been confused, frustrated, screaming mad, with all the misdirection in this documentation. The documentation takes me windows 2008 R2 which is different than 2012!

In general, DTC is not required for SQL 2012. But, since you are asking specifically about SharePoint, it would be better to ask in a SharePoint forum. They would be more likely to know those situations where FTC might be needed by SharePoint.

Clustering behavior for servlets/JHTML?

I have two questions about the clustering behavior of servlets and
          JHTML:
          1. Is it a safe assumption that JHTML servlets behave identically to
          regular, developer-written servlets?
          2. How does the clustering mechanism work? Say I have a user who logs in
          to my site (which is a 4-server, weblogic cluster). Does that user
          session always get directed back to the same server (say in this case,
          server #1)? Or does the user session get directed to the server with the
          lowest load at the time of the request?

please disable RSS, TCP Chimney on both cluster nodes RSS, NetDMA to narrow down the issue first.

I've been working on creating a windows server 2008 R2 cluster for about a month now and I keep getting an error whenever I try to add a 2nd node. I keep
getting The cluster node is not reachable. However, when I validate the configuration, everything goes through success. I created and destroyed the cluster a couple of times, but no luck. I even re-installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on both servers, re-configured
the iSCSI, and the same warning keeps coming up.
I installed a new a new SQL Server 2008R2 Named Instance on an exisiting SQL Server cluster node (Node 1 &Node2). When I try to manually fail
over
the Services and applications to another node (Node1 to node2) using Failover Cluster Manager, I get the errors
The cluster has these Events:
Event ID
1069: Cluster resource 'IP Address xx.xx.xx.xx' in clustered service or application 'ClusterDtc' failed.
Event ID 1205:The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'ClusterDtc' completely online
or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application..

That would be a typical work around in this situation. But what we intend to do cannot be accomplished through this work around as we need the validations to complete successfully.
We are looking for an option either to get the driver signed or use a different signed adapter for the same. Could you please suggest us something on that line.

Unfortunately this is not something that we would be able to do in a virtual environment; You are welcome to try different drivers however we would not be able to provide any support
for untrusted drivers. The only true solution would be to upgrade from a VM to a dedicated server where you would have control of all the drivers as there is no virtualization layer to
contend with. Stepping into the territory of untested drivers for a custom configuration in a virtual environment will certainly prove to be an uphill battle.
I would advise contacting Microsoft's support for additional assistance as they will be able to provide the most accurate information regarding this concern.

I am a newbie to java...what do i need to compile java applications,servlets etc.

first you need java developers kit(jdk)
download it
then r.click on my computer and take it's properties
go to advance properties
go to envirinment variable
set variables
JAVA_HOME set to directory where you installed jdk
CLASS_PATH set to the bin in your jdk
then write a java class and save somewhere as .java file
go to command prompt
change directory to where you save java class
and use javac (yourjavafilename) .java command to compile it

Failed over to a Aysnc Replica and now previous primary replica(Now Secondary) is in NOT SYNC state

Here is my situation :
3 Nodes in an AG configuration, and its a multi-site cluster. Sync commit between 2 nodes in one DC and Async commit to a node in the DR DC.
AG is failed over to the Async Replica which is the DR site and all the databases comes up fine and application also can connect using the listener.
When checked the state of secondary databases, its in NOT SYNC mode. Data is suspended automatically. I can resume data movement to fix the problem, but was curious why this will be in NOT SYNC mode?

The reason this happens is because of the forced failover needed to be used when moving to an Async replica. It will cause all other replicas to become suspended due to the fact that it is never known if data loss will occur or not.
It might not make sense right now, but think about a situation where the databases are not synchronized and failover is forced (it has to work in all situations). There may be a good bit of data on the primary replica that has not yet made it (or partially)
to the async secondary. It wouldn't make sense to negotiate the primary back down (after all, it's the async one) and undo valid transactions. It also allows for a database snapshot or other method to be done on the old sync primary which could be used for
DR purposes to get those valid transactions and data out.

Best practices on enterprise and application roles in OIM and OAM 11g?

Hi, all,
I wonder if any of you can give me some advice on role design for OIM and OAM 11g. I'd like to have both enterprise roles, such as Accountant II, and application roles, such as App1_User, App1_Admin, etc. Ideally, the enterprise role would automatically give the user the appropriate application roles, but I can't figure out how to do that. We tried using OIM 11g's inheritance, but when the application role is inherited, OAM doesn't see it in OID/OVD and therefore doesn't think the user has the correct authorization to access the application. I thought about using role membership rules, but those seem to only allow you to use user attributes to control membership, which doesn't help at all in my situation.
How is this situation best handled? Any advice much appreciated!

I am assuming in clustered environment you are having two instances running.
It must be an issue with a single server,,because the problem is intermittent.
To see which server is causing problem....just perform the following steps:
1) Stop server1 and keep running server2..and fire new registration request...
2) stop server 2..and keep running server1.....and fire new registration request.
Using above, atleast you can see which server is causing the problem...

Hi. Id like to change "Services and applications" names in failover cluster manager for Windows Server 2008 R2.
I right click on one and press rename, but when i change the name and press enter i get the message "To rename this service or application please rename the Client Access Point via its property page"

Clustering and CF9 Standard?

I have a couple of questions that I was hoping to get answered around ColdFusion 9 and clustering. Currently, we run CF8 and IIS on the same box with a dedicated db server and serve up about 10 applications. We are starting to look at clustering and I wanted to know:
1. With CF 9 Standard, can we setup clustering? Our apps have session vars and we want to use sticky sessions but I'm unsure if we can do that just with CF9 Standard.
2. Does CF play well with VMware? If so, does anyone have any success stories around Virtualizing CF?

1. No, you can not set up clustering in CF Standard. You could set up multiple servers and let a load balancer handle the distributio of requests over the servers, but then you do not have session failover. This may meet your requirements. Or not.
2. It works just fine. I can't remember when I set up CF for the last time on a non VMware system.

Clusters are two or more tables that are physically stored together to take advantage of similar columns between the tables. If two tables have an identical column and you frequently need to join the two tables, for example, it is advantageous to store the common column values in the same data
block. The goal is to reduce disk I/O and thereby increase access speed when you join related tables.
However, clusters will reduce the performance of your INSERT statements, because more blocks are needed to store the data of multiple tables.
Oracle partitions addresses the key problem of supporting very large tables and indexes by allowing you to decompose them into smaller and more manageable pieces called partitions.
Once partitions are defined, SQL statements can access and manipulate the partitions rather than entire tables or indexes.
Partitions are especially useful in data warehouse applications, which commonly store and analyze large amounts of historical data
Hash partitioning is a partitioning technique where a hash key is used to distribute rows evenly across the different partitions (sub-tables). This is typically used where ranges aren't appropriate, i.e. employee number, productID, etc.
