Clustering Of two Zones of Solaris 10
Hi,
I want to do Clustering Of two Zones of Solaris 10 . Firstly is it possible...
Can anybody guide me the prerequiste of this .
Thanks in advance...
sorry for the late response but i have something to say :
Regarding changing screen resolution, you can issue a command #kdmconfig
and select Xorg which will give different options wherein you can change device types, their resolution, frequency etc. after making the required changes, save & exit. reboot the system, now the screen resolution would have changed.
you can look for the nic drivers entries in files like /etc/path_to_inst, /etc/driver_aliases, /dev.

Failover Clustering between two zones in a single node?
In Solaris 10 node, I have two non-global zone (sparse root). I want to create failover clustering between two zones for a specific application. I have created two small zone and installed sun cluster 3.2 in global zone. After that what I need to complete the rest of job. Please help me.
It is mandatory to configure IPMP, but if you check your network configuration it should have been done already, but you are free to change the configuration.
I assume you booted the node after executing scinstall so the cluster should be up and running, check that with cluster status.
Now you have to create a resource group with the zones in its nodelist
clrg create -n <nodename>:<zone1>,<nodename>:<zone2> group-name
create your logical host in this resource group
clrslh create -g group-name <alias name>
Alias name is a name /etc/host like appaddr
online your resource group
clrg online -eM group-name
Now you have an ip failover between the two zones.
Regarding the other details, I do not know what you are planning to do, so I need more information here regarding storage application and so on.

Best Practices for patching Sun Clusters with HA-Zones using LiveUpgrade?
We've been running Sun Cluster for about 7 years now, and I for
one love it. About a year ago, we starting consolidating our
standalone web servers into a 3 node cluster using multiple
HA-Zones. For the most part, everything about this configuration
works great! One problem we've having is with patching. So far,
the only documentation I've been able to find that talks about
patch Clusters with HA-Zones is the following:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2971/6n57mi2g0
Sun Cluster System Administration Guide for Solaris OS
How to Apply Patches in Single-User Mode with Failover Zones
This documentation works, but has two major drawbacks:
1) The nodes/zones have to be patched in Single-User Mode, which
translates to major downtime to do patching.
2) If there are any problems during the patching process, or
after the cluster is up, there is no simple back out process.
We've been using a small test cluster to test out using
LiveUpgrade with HA-Zones. We've worked out most of bugs, but we
are still in a position of patching our HA-Zoned clusters based
on home grow steps, and not anything blessed by Oracle/Sun.
How are others patching Sun Cluster nodes with HA-Zones? Has any
one found/been given Oracle/Sun documentation that lists the
steps to patch Sun Clusters with HA-Zones using LiveUpgrade??
Thanks!Hi Thomas,
there is a blueprint that deals with this problem in much more detail. Actually it is based on configurations that are solely based on ZFS, i.e. for root and the zone roots. But it should be applicable also to other environments. "!Maintaining Solaris with Live Upgrade and Update On Attach" (http://wikis.sun.com/display/BluePrints/Maintaining+Solaris+with+Live+Upgrade+and+Update+On+Attach)
Unfortunately, due to some redirection work in the joint Sun and Oracle network, access to the blueprint is currently not available. If you send me an email with your contact data I can send you a copy via email. (You'll find my address on the web)

Trouble w/installing Solaris 10 branded zone on solaris 11.
Having issues creating a policy that works installing solaris 10 u10 branded nfs zone on sol11 in opscenter 12c u1. Maybe i'm just overlooking something basic or it isn't supported in opscenter. I'm able to create the policy but seem to get a very non-informative error message when deploying it.

Can we run two instances of solaris in 1 hardware (SunFire Server)
Hi,
There is a need for us to run two instance of Solaris in SunFire Server.
Because we need to install Domino Servers in a Single Hardware.
The hardware consist of Eight Processors.
How to allocate the resource in such a way that the Domino Server should take 4 Processor and other application should take other four.
Please be in more detail.
Regards,
C.Kumanan"Sunfire" is a product line that includes many different computer designs
and many different capabilities. You will need to be more specific as to what model you actually have.
The Sun Fire Midrange Systems are hardware designs that can be configured
to run discrete domains in the same overall chassis.
So, for those systems the answer to your question would be "Yes".
For any Sun Fire computer syustem that is smaller than the Midrange systems,
the answer to your question would be "No".
So ... A Sun Fire 3800 with eight processors ??? "Yes"
However, a Sunfire V880 with eight processors ??? "No"
Any other configuration questions of the actual Solaris instance,
such as Zones or processor thread affinity are outside the scope of this forum.
Those issues would be discussed better in an OS forum. -

Moving a zone in Solaris 10 3/05
What is the proper procedure for moving a zone in Solaris 3/05 (which does not have the 'zoneadm -z <zone> move <path>' command)?
The zones stuff is tightly integrated with much of the other OS infrastructure eg kernel, libraries etc.
Its not possible to upgrade just the zones stuff by installing packages.
You could upgrade the zones stuff by applying patches, but it will drag a lot of other stuff in as preqrequisites.
Just installing a recommended patch set should accomplish this.
But it may be simpler to just upgrade to 5/08 and be done with it. Liveupgade or upgrade install should work. -
Do we need to create two zones for Two HBA for a host connected with SAN ?
Hi,While creating Zone , Do we need to create two zones for Two HBA for a host connected with SAN ? Or a zone is enough for
a host which having Two HBAs...We have two 9124s for our SAN fabric...
As I found like one zone below, I little bit confused that , if a host having two HBA connected with SAN, should I expect two zones for every Host?
from the zone set, I gave the command show zoneset
zone name SQLSVR-X-NNN_CX4 vsan 1
pwwn 50:06:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
pwwn 50:06:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
pwwn 10:00:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
But I found only one zone for the server's HBA2:by the same time in the fabric I found switches A & B showing the WWNs of those HBAs on its
connected N port...Its not only for this server alone, but for all hosts..Can you help me to clarify on this please..that should we need to create one zone for
one HBA?if u have two independent fabrics between hosts and storage, i think the below confs are recommended.
Scenario 1: 2 HBAs single port each ( redundancy across HBA / Storage port )
HBA1 - port 0 ---------> Fabric A ----------> Storage port ( FAx/CLx )
HBA2 - port 0 ---------> Fabirc B ----------> Storage port ( FAy/CLy )
Scenario 2: 2 HBAs of dual port each
HBA1 - port 0 -------> Fabric A ---------> Storage port ( FAx/CLx )
HBA2 - port0 ---------> Fabric A ---------> Storage port ( FAs/CLs )
HBA1 - port 1 --------> Fabric A --------> Storage port ( FAy/CLy )
HBA2 - port 1 ---------> Fabric B --------> Storage port ( FAt/CLt )
the zone which is in your output is VSAN 1. if its a production VSAN, Cisco doesn't recomends to use VSAN 1 ( default vsan ) for production. -

Monitoring services in zones with Solaris container Manager
I need to know how to Manage Solaris services (SMF) in sparse zone with Solaris container manager.
I have navigated all the documentation and I have not found any clue.
I installed the Sun management center (SMC) server on a server box and the agents on others. I can manage the SMF of the global zone by drilling down via the console GUI. But having access to the container manager, I have to go via https connection. And drilling down on the zone did not reveal that SMF can be monitored.
Please if you have any idea, share it with me.Hi,

Q:Creating Solaris 11.1 zone inside Solaris 11.1 LDOM fails
Hello,
I have a server where I've created a LDOM and I'd like to create zones inside that LDOMs and it isn't working at all for me. If I try to create a zone outside of my LDOM it works perfectly fine. What am I missing here?
Control domain: host-22
LDOM hostname is host-40.
Zone name is wls-zone.
OS: Solaris 11.1

AFAIK, in Solaris 11.1, the VNIC should be created automatically when creating the zone (as it does on a bare metal machine without LDOMs)?

Edited by: A Tael on Nov 13, 2012 9:54 PMTo use a Solaris 11 zone with an exclusive IP based on a VNIC, you need to be at a recent SRU of Solaris 11.1 and run a recent version of the logical domains manager (3.0.0.2 or later) - and then configure the virtual network device to have additional MAC addresses. Please have a look at https://blogs.oracle.com/jsavit/entry/vnics_on_vnets_now_available

Clustering the Zones in Solaris Server
Hi,
I am trying to bring my two local zones in my Sparc server into a cluster.
Here is my server details ..
GLOBAL ZONE DETAILS:
bash-3.00# uname -a
SunOS nitappsun03 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
bash-3.00#
Local Zone details:
bash-3.00# uname -a
SunOS nitappsun03-zone1 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
bash-3.00#
Now I want to create one more zone in my global zone and to bring the zone in cluster with my current local zone...
Any expert in clustering guide me how to configure the above , and give me any reference to the Documebnt that I can go through to understand the concept of Clustering....
Thanks & Regards
Suseendran .AWell, you might think that. But you would be wrong.
I'm not aware of any unix OS with an undelete function at the filesystem level.
Such things don't tend to work well in a multiuser/server environment where lots of things are writing to the disk in the background.
And trying to guess what the filesystem used to look like is a good way to court random file system corruption. -
Two iAS on Solaris - clustering solutions
Dear all,
I would like to implement iAS 6.0 sp2 on Solaris 8 with the following
clustering solution.
For Machine A, two iAS instances are installed.
iAS instance 1 - Primary iAS for team A
iAS instance 2 - Backup iAS for team B
LDAP - LDAP for team A
For Machine B, two iAS instances are installed too.
iAS instance 1 - Primary iAS for team B
iAS instance 2 - Backup iAS for team A
LDAP - LDAP for team B
Do you think that is it possible?
If it's possible, it there any side-effect on this setup.
Thanks!
Regards,
PatIt is possible.I have done that. But with iAS 6.0 SP1 on Solaris 6.
Thx,
