Clustering the Zones in Solaris Server
Hi,
I am trying to bring my two local zones in my Sparc server into a cluster.
Here is my server details ..
GLOBAL ZONE DETAILS:
bash-3.00# uname -a
SunOS nitappsun03 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
bash-3.00#
Local Zone details:
bash-3.00# uname -a
SunOS nitappsun03-zone1 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
bash-3.00#
Now I want to create one more zone in my global zone and to bring the zone in cluster with my current local zone...
Any expert in clustering guide me how to configure the above , and give me any reference to the Documebnt that I can go through to understand the concept of Clustering....
Thanks & Regards
Suseendran .A
Well, you might think that. But you would be wrong.
I'm not aware of any unix OS with an undelete function at the filesystem level.
Such things don't tend to work well in a multiuser/server environment where lots of things are writing to the disk in the background.
And trying to guess what the filesystem used to look like is a good way to court random file system corruption.

How to find out the info regarding Solaris, server hang or shutdown.
Hi
As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.
Thanks
Rajan
INo core files?
No hope for an answer.
As you learned in the other Internet forum.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/how-to-find-out-the-info-regarding-solaris-server-hang-or-shutdown.-621500/
To get such corefiles analyzed,
you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
They have the special software tools to do that. -
Creating a new Essbase Cluster on the same Solaris server
Hi All,
I have two servers:
Server1: Foundation services, APS, EAS
Server2: Essbase Server, Essbase Studio Server on epminstance_1
Due to business requirements I need to "rename" the Essbase cluster from "EssbaseCluster-1" to something else.. I know this is not possible and from the below document I understand that I need to create a new instance on Server2 and configure Essbase and Essbase Studio on it.
"How to Rename Essbase Cluster (Doc ID 1434439.1)"
Goal: In EPM System Release 11.1.2.x, is it possible to rename the Essbase instance and cluster names after they are configured?
Solution: No, it is not possible to rename the Essbase cluster or instance names after the initial configuration. If you need to change the instance and cluster names, create new instance and cluster. Export the applications from the old cluster and import them into the new cluster.
My doubt lies with configuring the 2nd Essbase server as I am not clear how a single environment with two Essbase standalone instances on the same physical Solaris server, with each belonging to their own cluster will behave. I know that they are independent clusters and the concept of active/passive and active/active clusters are for Essbase instances part of the same cluster.
I plan to create a new epminstance_2 instance on Server2 and configure the 2nd Essbase server as follows: give it a *new* cluster name and not assign it to the existing Essbase cluster and deploy it in standalone mode.
1. Now I plan to use the 1st instance only as a backup option.. In an event where for some reason the new instance were to fail I would start up the services on the older essbase instance. Is this possible without any additional configuration or changes to OPMN?
2. Alternatively, say we want to remove the older instance. Kindly suggest ways in which I can safely "remove" the older cluster (other than uninstalling). Also when users log in using SmartView, they would see the older and new cluster.. Is there anyways I can get rid of the older cluster without having to uninstall everthing on Server2 and start fresh?
Thanks!Thanks John!
I have a doubt which I hope you can throw some light now..
I created a new instance and configured Essbase Server and Studio server on it. So now I have two EPM instances on the same physical server both having Essbase server and Essbase studio server - both Essbase servers belong to different Essbase clusters. Now from the EPM docs I do not find any mention that we can or cannot have multiple instances of Essbase Studio on the same server. Kindly correct me if I am wrong..
In the deployment report I see two identical entries for the Essbase Studio server in the older epminstance but I do not see Essbase Studio of the 2nd Instance.
epmsystem_1 (Server2)
Essbase Studio Server - 9080
epmsystem_1 (Server2)
Essbase Studio Server - 9080
After I start up the 2nd Essbase Studio server I tried connecting to it from Essbase Studio Console and got the error "Read permission denied to object folder:\'system'."
Similarly when I run start_BPMS_bpms1_CommandLineClient.sh and issue the reinit command I get the same error.
So I stopped the 2nd Essbase Studio server on epmsystem_2 and started up the first Essbase Studio server on epmsystem_1. I was able to connect to it fine from Essbase Studio console and reinit worked too.. I ran a drill through report which worked fine.
-> So is it that we can have only one instance of Essbase Studio on a single server?
Also say I want to use the Essbase Studio on the 2nd instance.. Could I re-configure just Essbase server on epmsystem_1 and re-configure Essbase server and Essbase studio server on epmsystem_2 ?
Thanks,

Solaris Server VM under Weblogic 7.0 sp1
I have noticed that bea has dropped platform support
for the Sun SPARC Solaris Server VM (java 1.3 -server option)
and only allows the use of the client VM (-hotspot)
I was under the impression that -server mode was much more scalable than -hotspot
mode, which is now the only option
on solaris.
Has anyone tried using -server mode under with weblogic 7
with any success or greater performance?
MattI heard for corporate customers there is a patch for weblogic 7 with that you can
use jdk141.
Am i right?

Moving a Solaris Zone from one server to another
Hello,
I have a Solaris 8 zone running on a server. It is running on a ZFS file system. The hardware that it is running on is no longer under support contract, so we want to move it to our newer solaris hardware that still has support.
I have done a lot of looking around and can't find a definite answer.
The zone was created by a flash archive and installed to a ZFS file system. Worked like a champ and was fairly easy to do.
However, I want to take this zone, halt it, and then export the zfs file system to a new server. Let me know if this sounds like it will work...
newglobal# zfs create zones/temp -o sharenfs=on
oldglobal# zoneadm -z zone halt
oldglobal# mount -F nfs newglobal:/zones/temp /net
oldglobal# tar -cf /net/zone.tar /zones/zone
oldglobal# zonecfg -z zone export -f /net/zone.cfg
newglobal# zfs create zones/zone -o quota=10g
newglobal# tar -xf /zones/temp/zone.tar /zones/zone
newglobal# mv /zones/zone/zone/root ../../
newglobal# mv /zones/zone/zone/dev ../../
newglobal# zonecfg -z zone -f /zones/temp/zone.cfg
newglobal# zoneadm -z zone attach -F
newglobal# /usr/lib/brand/solaris8/s8_p2v zone
newglobal# zoneadm -z zone boot
Does this seem feasible? I really don't want to create another flar of this server if I don't have to.I basically did what I said I would from my first post and it worked like a champ.
I created the zfs mount point, ran the tar command, moved it via nfs to the next server, untarred it to the new zone zfs space,
exported the zone cfg from the original host, modified it so that it had the correct zonepath, and network devices for the new host, imported the config with zonecfg -z zone -f /tmp/zone.cfg. I then attached the zone with zoneadm -z zone attach -F. I then ran /usr/lib/brand/solairs8/s8_p2v zone and it installed all the patches required for it and then I ran zoneadm -z zone boot and it came right up and worked like a charm.
Thanks for all the info you guys gave me.

Clustering Of two Zones of Solaris 10
Hi,
I want to do Clustering Of two Zones of Solaris 10 . Firstly is it possible...
Can anybody guide me the prerequiste of this .
Thanks in advance...sorry for the late response but i have something to say :
Regarding changing screen resolution, you can issue a command #kdmconfig
and select Xorg which will give different options wherein you can change device types, their resolution, frequency etc. after making the required changes, save & exit. reboot the system, now the screen resolution would have changed.
you can look for the nic drivers entries in files like /etc/path_to_inst, /etc/driver_aliases, /dev. -
Server 2008R2 with AD DNS Panel not showing any records only shows the zone name
Hi All new to the Form. We have had this new domain controller running dns for a few years now and recently I went to edit some DNS records and found them missing in the DNS console the zone names are there but nothing is under the zones just one record
for the server under our AD domain. If i do a nslookup to this server it still displays the records as it should. It is also setup to forward the zones to a secondary server which is only pulling info from this Master 2008R2 server. Any ideas where i can try
and recover the records for my Zones.
ThanksHi,
According to your description, there are several possible reasons resulting in the DNS records disappearing.
1. If the aging and scavenging was configured in the DNS server, scavenging can cause records to disappear. Even Windows-based computers that have statically assigned servers register their records every 24 hours. Verify if the
No-refresh and Refresh intervals are too low. For example, if these values are both less than 24 hours, then we will lose DNS records. To view the settings, right-click the zone in the DC, click
Properties, click Aging.
2. Is there a DHCP server in your environment? DNS Dynamic Update Protocol updates to existing records fail can also cause them to be deleted by the scavenging process as aged records.
Also, event logs are helpful to isolating the issues. Is there any event logs in your computer?
For more details about DNS records disappearing, please refer to the link below,

Any simple command to query the zone ID on Solaris 10?
Hello,
As we know, the APIs in zone.h can be used in C/C++ codes to get the ID of a zone on Solaris 10. The other commands like ps can also show the zone ID together with other information:
# ps -o zoneid
ZONEID
0
0
However, does anyone know if there is a simple system command which can be easily used in shell script to find the zone id for the current system?
There is the command "zonename" and I really hope to have the command like "zoneid" which can give zone ID for the current zone (global or non-global). If there is no such a tool from Solaris, I can easily create one with the APIs or parse the output from "ps -o zoneid". However, I like to check with the experts here in case I missed some command which can do this simple task:-)
I expect the command simply return the zone id like:
#zoneid
0
Thanks and Regards
FrankHello,
Thanks for your reply. The zoneadm command shows the IDs of all zones. I try to find a command which can simply display the ID number for the current zone where the command is run. Any more hints?

Using IPsec in solaris 10 with zones - in the zones.
I manage to set up the IPsec feature in the global zone , However, i need to use it in one of the zones,
How can i do it?????Hi Peter - thanks for your reply.
I had already tried including the full path to srcore in AccessKeyMouseEvents (apologies for not mentioning this before) and still no luck.
I've just now re-verified that I made the correct changes as outlined in the JDS3 accessibility guide. My AccessKeyMouseEvents line is:
<Control>s 1 1000 1000 /usr/sfw/bin/srcore login disable-magnifier enable-speech enable-braille
(it is all on one line)
Any other suggestions?
Is there a way I can determine (via a non graphical method) whether the proper modules are being loaded by gdm?
Thanks,

Create zone in Solaris 10 SMC 3.6 Client
Hi,
I have 2 solaris 10 server. 1 acting as smc server and the other one as smc client.
In smc server, I install smc srv sw 3.6, agent 3.6, container manager in sol10 global zone, no agent yet in local zone
In smc client I install I install smc agent only in global zone
I can create new zone in smc server by login as admin (member of esadm group)
My aim is to enable create new zone in the client thru container manager web based GUI port 6789.
no admin a/c in the smc client, neither esadm group
PROBLEM:
Can't create new zone. The error msg is ask me to check zone log, but zone is not created yet.
I think this because smc agent didn't have enough privilege to create a new zone in the client
Do I need to create admin user and esadm group in every client that I want to add new zone?
What steps is miss in the client side?
thanks

Zpool status in a zone shows zpool on which the zone is built
Hello,
We have a solaris 10 zone x, which is built on a zpool say tank.
when I run zpool status/zpool list in the solaris 10 zone x the zpool tank is visible. But the DR server for the same, built using the same config says "no pools available"
Is it possible to display the zpools in zone unless we have did a delegation/added zpool to the zone?
let me know your thoughts
cheers!!!!
Warm Regards,
Hemanththe zpool is listed if you are using additional filesystems (add fs)
the zpool is not listed if only used as root filesystem, because
the root filesystem is mounted in the global zone.

Monitoring services in zones with Solaris container Manager
I need to know how to Manage Solaris services (SMF) in sparse zone with Solaris container manager.
I have navigated all the documentation and I have not found any clue.
I installed the Sun management center (SMC) server on a server box and the agents on others. I can manage the SMF of the global zone by drilling down via the console GUI. But having access to the container manager, I have to go via https connection. And drilling down on the zone did not reveal that SMF can be monitored.

Edited by: A Tael on Nov 13, 2012 9:54 PMTo use a Solaris 11 zone with an exclusive IP based on a VNIC, you need to be at a recent SRU of Solaris 11.1 and run a recent version of the logical domains manager (3.0.0.2 or later) - and then configure the virtual network device to have additional MAC addresses. Please have a look at https://blogs.oracle.com/jsavit/entry/vnics_on_vnets_now_available
