Clusterware resource won't attempt restart.

We have set up a 2 node cluster using Oracle Clusterware. This is configured to run as an active/passive cluster.
On Node 1 there is a resource group which contains:
rg1
rg1.head
rg1.vip
rg1.listener
rg1.db_db1
This seemed to work ok with the group relocating nicely following a reboot or crs_relocate -f rg1 command. Killing individual processes caused them to try and restart as they'd been set up to in their profiles.
A second database has been installed on the cluster. The database itself works ok on each node. It was added to the resource group as rg1.db_db2 resource (using the same act_db.pl script which came from here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/pdf/SI_DB_Failover_11g.pdf)
Now the cluster is not working. Reboooting node 1 causes the resources to try and start on node 2 but the original rg1.db_db1 resource always fails the log showing this:
2009-07-09 16:22:35.832: [  CRSAPP][1552480576] StartResource error for rg1.db_db1 error code = 1
2009-07-09 16:22:36.202: [  CRSRES][1552480576] Start of `rg1.db_db1` on member `xenops-2` failed.
crs_profile -p rg1.db_db1
shows that the restart attempts are set to 5 but instead of trying again everything sits there until node1 comes back online then everything moves back there. (this is not straightforward as the rg1.db_db1 resource tends to fail there and it ping pongs a bit between the two until everyhting works). The placement parameter in the profile is set to balanced which I understand to mean the failed resource should try again on the node where the other resources are until the restart attempts are used up.
Any ideas?
thanks

anyone?
My question is basically what would be preventing the rg1.db_db1 resource from attempting to restart on the node the rg1 group has just failed over to.
Should this be in a specific clusterware forum? I did look before posting but could not see one named as such (or a RAC one).
thanks
Mark

  • My iPad won't stop restarting itself since it died and i plugged it in, what's wrong with it?

    My iPad died and i plugged it in and now it won't stop restarting itself, it goes apple logo, loading, shut off and then it repeats itself. I thought that maybe the iPad got just enough power to start restarting but then died midway through and that just kept continuously happening.

    Try a reset: Hold down the power and Home buttons together until the Apple logo is displayed, then release. No data or settings are lost.

  • IMac won't complete restart after upgrade to 10.5.6

    I recently ran Mac OS upgrade 10.5.6, but iMac won't complete restart. After the apple appears, script appears across screen and a box appears in the middle telling me to restart my computer by "holding power button until shut down, then press on/off button again to restart. Any suggestions to try before taking machine to Apple Store?

    Thank you everyone. The correct answer was a kernel panic, and although the resolve kernel panic links above did not offer a successful solution, it was a correct diagnosis. Following the Apple Troubleshooting steps allowed me to determine that a faulty third party keyboard was the cause. Restarting with shift, restarting with 'x,' and restarting with ctrl-option-r-p did not solve the issue. Unplugging the keyboard and restarting did identify the keyboard as the culprit. Thank you all for your help.

  • White screen on attempted restart plus disk stuck in drive

    I had to restart my iMac after uninstalling a piece of software. On the attempted restart all I get is a white screen after the usual Apple sound. I did try to restart using what I thought was the system disk, but unfortunately I inserted the Snow Leopard disk by mistake and not the system disk (entirely my fault). I now have two problems - white screen on restart and a stuck disk. I have tried holding down the mouse key, the shift key and the "C" key repeatedly but none of them work. Appreciate any suggestions.

    If 10.7.0 or later...
    Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there.

  • Won't completely restart!

    I downloaded the Pandora app for my phone about an hour ago and it said it needed to reboot to finish the installation. I did so, and now it won't completely restart. It has gone to the Blackberry logo with the loading bar along the bottom at least 10 times. I put it in the charger, and I have taken the battery out twice. What is the deal?

    You didn't say how long you're letting it sit there to reboot. It can take 5-7 minutes.
    If it doesn't completely reboot, leave the battery out now for over five minutes, replace and try again.
    If still nothing, please post back here.

  • My iPad won't really restart.

    I installed "Whats Pad" to my iPad and it tried to restart after installing as a part of the process. However, my iPad won't really restart. It has been restarting and won't really open. I can't also shut it down (turn off) as there is no option or button for that. What should I do. I need help.

    I'm a dufus.  I meant my IMAC.  I'm trying to download ITunes 11.1.  I download it, but when it tells me to hit "restart" I do this.  Next, my screen goes black, as it should in restart, but then it shows just the standard background wallpaper, and will not proceed at all; won't load any programs or icons.  Thanks.

  • My Mac Pro Keeps Restarting! It Won't Stop RESTARTING! Over & Over RESTART!

    My HUGE Mac Pro, 3 GHz Dual Processors, 4 GB Ram, purchased December 2007 has had a problem of restarting over and over until I insert the start up disks and reinitialize the system. It will run for about 5 restarts then once again – RESTART OVER & OVER until I hold the start button to stop it. (Ironic, isn’t it)
    The third party programs I'm running are:
    * BOINC,
    * Bryce 5,
    * Firefox,
    * Pages,
    * Photoshop CS3,
    * Poser 7,
    * Vue6.
    ALL of which are checked to be compatible with this GIGANTIC CHEESE GRADER. My MacBookPro3.1, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz run’s them just fine. (Slower than my old Vio but runs just the same)
    My six-month phone customer service expired and now because the computer's crashed & the wireless keyboard won't open the DVD tray to accept my continued three-year service plan on CD, they won't talk with me. I feel SO cheated and without some assistance will probably check myself into an insane asylum with ALL the other people switching from PC to Mac.
    My last RUDE Apple customer service person at Apple said it not their problem. <edited by host> In the past, I feel so rushed with Apple customer service then shortly after we reinstall the software, the same problem of restarting happens. One Apple customer service rep even said they have had a problem with this with others.
    * SO now, how do I open the CD tray with a PC keyboard for reinstalling the software? I looked for a place to stick a paperclip in the tray to open it, none!
    * How can I stop the MacPro from always restarting?
    * How do I get a piece of the +$700 billion bailout+?

    I bet the Apple rep said that guy was rude, too since you seem to be.
    How many of these apps, obviously not CS3, FIrefox and Pages, are tweaks that startup from the login items? Any of them? Start there and remove them.
    You can register for Applecare if you bought it by calling Applecare. Though holding the mouse button down when booting will open the CD drive as well.

  • Macbook won't shutdown/restart on command

    Hi, I'm a graphic design student and I use Adobe products on my book.
    After I use adobe illustrator or really any program for a while, my macbook wont restart after I'm done.
    Even if I close the program and dont use anything on the computer then try to restart , it won't. It's like theres a point of no return. I feel maybe there's virtual memory build up perhaps? Also my google notifier stopped working, and never works now. This happened around the same time my computer stopped restarting/shutting down on command... but it might have nothing to do with it.
    Also when I hit restart, it ll tell me something is open like ichat or itunes, when it's obviously not and isn't an option on the forced quit menu.
    Please help, my macbook is getting screwy and I'm worried.
    also my airport drops the connection even though it shows a strong signal (but it seems like thats happening to everyone)

    Try resetting your SMC and resetting your PRAM.

  • Lock up and attempted restart on recent recordings

    Recordings made since about 10 days ago are giving me problems. They will lose sound about 1 second before freezing. After about 1 minute the vbox than tries to restart itself, but the restart screen just flickers every 10 seconds like it's recycling. It never gets any where with the restart, I have to pull the power. Restarts ok when power is restored.
    The freeze points are repeatable. I can try playing a recording again and it will freeze at the same frame. I can fast forward and backward past the freeze point as long as I do so before it locks up. There are also multiple freeze points in recordings. The freeze points in the recordings are not at set times or lengths, just appear random.
    Watching live is ok. Signal strength looks the same as it ever did. Older recordings play back without any problem. I've got two other PVRs and have made simultaneous recordings on all three as a test; the vbox has problems, the other two don't even show a flicker.
    Anyone got any ideas. I think the vbox is going faulty. Can't recall exactly how long I've had the vbox but it's over 18 months or so and it's worked nigh on perfectly all the time.
    Thanks,

  • Won't sleep, restarts instead

    I have a Macbook Pro bought this year in August. As of a few days ago, when I choose "sleep" from the apple menu, it restarts instead. If I close the lid, it shuts down. Any ideas?
    I already tried resetting the PRAM/SMC/NVRAM.

    I would go into the apple store and see if they can replace your macbook pro

  • G4 PPC won't Sleep, Restart, or run Screen Saver

    Hi all,
    My 7 year old 1.25 GHz G4 PPC, until recently, has run with little to almost no problems (at least nothing I couldn't solve on my own).
    Now, this past week all of a sudden I can't get the computer to go to sleep, either through Energy Saver settings or manually. It just doesn't respond and nothing happens. I read through some other similar questions that have been posted in the past and tried a few of the offered solutions. I've run disk utility, and tried disconnecting all USB peripherals, still non-responsive.
    Likewise, I can't get my screen saver to run either through Energy Saver settings or through my Hot Corners (all other hot corner settings seem to work fine). It will only launch through System Prefs > Desktop & Screen Saver > Test.
    The last problem I have noticed so far is that I can't perform a restart, when I do the process starts, but almost immediately goes to a grey screen with the little spinning circle (the one that looks like a clock face) and stays that way. I've let this screen run for as long as about a half hour to see if something would happen, and nothing did. In the end I have to force a power down by holding down the power button.
    Again, as recommended elsewhere, I have repaired disk permissions and verified the disk, with still no change. I have disconnected all usb peripherals (3 external HD's, iPod, powered usb hub, despite the fact it's worked fine for the past 6 months with all these connections [6 months ago my firewire 400 ports stopped working, haven't replaced them yet]). I have not installed any new software recently, and my last software update before this started happening was iTunes 8.2.1 a couple of days before I first noticed the problem.
    Any ideas?

    Hi japamac,
    Thanks for the tips. (I had to create a new account here).
    Tried all your advice and nothing worked. I ended up getting fed up and tried reinstalling OSX and that didn't work either. After that I zeroed my drive (twice) and started from scratch. That's why I've been late in responding, it takes forever to backup your system when all you have to work with are usb ports at 12kb/s.
    Anyway, upon completion of zeroing my HD I reinstalled OSX 10.3 and checked all my settings, no issues were apparent, I could put the computer to sleep, run my screensaver, and all hot corners worked as well, all with no apparent problems. After that I downloaded and installed all updates for OSX 10.3, and still everything worked fine. So next I reinstalled OSX 10.4 off my disk, and once again, everything worked fine. So I started with my software updates (just the basics) one at a time retesting after each one, Java updates: everything worked, iPod phone support: everything worked, DVD Player update: everything worked, then I updated the 10.4 update bundle to 10.4.11 and all the problems returned. So I started over one more time, this time updating OSX first, and still, as soon as 10.4 is updated to 10.4.11 the problems return.
    So what could be happening with my computer that an operating system update (one I've had and run since it first came out, with no previous problems), is all of a sudden causing some sort of conflict or is just buggered in general, even after I have erased and zeroed my HD twice (presumably deleting any other file/program that could have been causing the conflict in the first place).
    And because I erased my HD, all my login settings for this forum were gone and I couldn't remember my login info so I had to create a new account.
    Thanks again,
    Chris

  • GB installation won't complete, restarts between "Loading.." and "Installing" phases. Help?

    I am using my iPhone 4, iOS 5.1. When I am starting installation there is plenty of space for install (2.2 GB).. the downloading part works fine, but then after that the whole process restarts. Tried three times by now. Other apps installed just fine..

    Never mind, problem is solved. waited a few hours tried again and now it's insalling. don't know what happened and what caused it to not install earlier. oh well..

  • Computer won't complete restart process to download new itunes version

    I click restart to download the new version of Itunes and it looks as if it's about but just as it starts to download it goes to the homepage of where I login to my account and doesn't download.

    my accounts match up and I still can't get rid of the update icons on the MBP. iPad shows no updates available (they are old iPhone only apps)
    The only thing I did was buy a new MBP and transfer the iTunes library.

  • Macbook Air froze and now won't properly restart.

    I was watching a video today on my Macbook Air on iTunes. It has been working properly.
    It suddenly froze and the escape key did not work. I forced a shut down.
    When I tried to power it up again, it appears to start-- the apple glows on the front cover, etc. But instead of a boot, all that happens is that a small magnifying glass appeared in the upper right corner of an otherwise black screen. Hitting escape caused a "please wait" cursor to appear, but when it disappeared, nothing else happened.
    I can't seem to shut it all the way down now, only make it sleep. None of the key combinations work. When it unsleeps, I'm back to the black screen with the magnifying glass.
    No spills, no nothing. Any ideas? I have the idea if I could make it shut down properly it might resolve itself, but this could be just wishful thinking. Could this be a display issue?
    Thanks.

    OS10.6

    Hey Cheryl,
    Within the MacBook Air users guide, I found a section that should be able to help you out starting on page 41. I copied the relevant information below, and you can find the full user guide here:
    MacBook Air User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Air_Users_Guide.pdf
    If your MacBook Air freezes during startup, or you see a flashing question mark, or the display is dark and the sleep indicator light is glowing steadily (not in sleep) The flashing question mark usually means that the computer can’t find the system software on the hard disk or on any disks attached to the computer.
    Wait a few seconds. If the computer still doesn’t start up, shut it down by pressing and holding the power button for about 8 to 10 seconds. Disconnect all external peripherals and try restarting by pressing the power button while holding down the Option key. When your computer starts up, click the hard disk icon, and then click the right arrow. After the computer starts up, open System Preferences and click Startup Disk. Select a local Mac OS X System folder.
    If that doesn’t work, try using Disk Utility to repair the disk. For more information, see “Using Disk Utility” on page 49.
    If your MacBook Air doesn’t turn on or start up
    Try the following suggestions in order until your computer turns on:
    Make sure the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a functioning power outlet. Be sure to use the 45W MagSafe Power Adapter that came with your MacBook Air. If the power adapter stops charging and you don’t see the indicator light on the power adapter turn on when you plug in the power cord, try unplugging and replugging the power cord to reseat it.
    Check whether the battery needs to be recharged. If the light on the power adapter glows amber, the battery is charging. See “Running Your MacBook Air on Battery Power” on page 34.
    If the problem persists, return the computer to its factory settings by pressing the left Shift key, left Option (alt) key, left Control key, and the power button simultaneously for five seconds.
    Press and release the power button and immediately hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys simultaneously until you hear the startup sound a second time. This resets the parameter RAM (PRAM).
    If you still can’t start up your MacBook Air, see “Learning More, Service, and Support” on page 53 for information about contacting Apple for service.
    Hope that helps,
    David
