Clusturing of sap servers

hi ,am raghu .
i got a new sap servers to cluster .i understood how to do it theriotically but i couldnt understand practically .can any one help me in sorting this. my database is oracle 9i,unix.
i want any screen shots or steps releted to this .

Hi Raja,
You need to take care of following
1) Ensure that IP address and hostname are retained in the new DC. If IP is changing you need to take a note of all the RFC and JCO connections where IP is used and replace them with hostname.
2) For ITS you can re-install and re-configure. It is not a big task.
Make a note which all places ITS is configured.
3) You need to have full offline backup of the system before movement.
4) You need to plan for some System integration testing post movement to ensure things are working post DC migration.
Some useful information can also be found in http://christian.bergeron.voila.net/DC_Guide/Data_Migration_Methodology_for_SAP_V01a.doc
Hope this helps.

  • SAP Servers not showing up in Server Explorer...

    Hi,
I have just installed v2 of NCO and everything has installed fine. Also tested a previous application written for v1 NCO and works fine.
But for some reason or other I can no longer create a sapproxy with V2. I followed the tutorial in VS2003 to the tutorial point in bold:
    Procedure
    1. In Visual Studio .net create a new Visual Basic or C# Console application
    2. Add an SAP client proxy to your project as follows:
    a. From the Project menu in Visual Studio .net, select Add New Item.
    b. Select SAP Connector Proxy as a template and choose Open.
    c. Switch to the VS .NET Server explorer.
<b>d. Right-click on SAP Servers and select Add Server.</b>
All I have is a Servers node that lists previous servers and a data connection node for SQLServer. There is no node called SAP Servers. Obviously this is the fundamental reason why I cant create a proxy as per tutorial notes.
Maybe the installation may have missed something, but I had no problems with the installation at all and like I said apps I had written in V1 are working.
    Please help...
    thanks
    Kurt

    Ofer, I spoke too soon.
I now have the SAP servers coming up and the BOR and Functions folders now. But When I try to create a filter on functions as per tutorial for <b>"RFC_CUST*"</b> it says incorrect username and password. I have tried refreshing this time and still comes up with a RED cross.
This is the same user account as used in NCO v1 app that is currently working with V2 of NCO. I have tried with uppercase password but still no luck.
This is the connection string constructed by proxy:
    ASHOST=yamba SYSNR=1 CLIENT=300 USER=dotnetconn PASSWD=ALLREADY LANG=en
    Something seems a little weird.

  • How to get the list of SAP Servers defined in xMII?

    Hi,
We have a requirement to get the list of SAP Servers defined in xMII and show them in a html dropdown field? We know that we could achieve this by using a custom action block.
Is there any way to get this list of SAP servers without using custom action block?

  • Can't create MBO from SAP servers

    Hi,
I'm trying to create MBO from SAP servers with Sybase Unwired WorkSpace.
I created Connection Profile and it worked well(Ping succeeded!).
However, I expanded profile tree, no BAPI was shown.
Any ideas what is happening here?
    SAP version is below,
    SAP
    ERP: ERP 6.0 EHP 5
NetWeaver: SAP EHP 2 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0
    OS: Windows NT 2x X86_64
    Sybase Unwired WorkSpace
    2.1.0
Additionally, It worked well in SAP ECC 6.0.
    Regards,
    Hiroshi Saito

    Eventually, the problem is resolved.
    It related SAP Note 706195.
I did the Solution in the Note, all BAPI is displayed in Sybase Unwired WorkSpace's Enterprise Explorer.

  • Best Practice AV set up on SAP Servers

    Hi,
Has anyone come across or aware of any best practice guidelines for AV setup on SAP servers, for example, which files/drives should you exclude and configuration tuning/reg-edits required. We have McAfee as our standard AV and we do use the HIPS component.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    My best advise is:
Don't run AV on a database server but rather reconfigure the local/a firewall so that only those ports are open which are necessary to run the SAP application.
Excluding files may help a bit but neverless, as soon as the AV scanner is installed it will hook up to the filesystem layer and slowing down (maybe not significantly) I/O. I've seen weird side effects in upgrades and patch installations due to an enabled scanner although the database files and executables were excluded from scanning.
If you're urged to run Windows servers then I would put them in a separate network segment with a firewall in front and enable only the necessary SAP ports (and printing ports). This has a number of advantages:
    - nasty RPC bugs can't be exploited because RPC to the SAP system should be disabled
    - there's no need to reboot the Windows machines on every "Microsoft patch day"
A virus scanner adds, especially for production database systems, an indeterministic risc to the business.

  • Best practice approach for seperating Database and SAP servers

    Hi,
I am looking for a best practice approach/strategy for setting up a distributed SAP landscape i.e separating the database and sap servers. If anyone has some strategies to share.
    Thanks very much

I can imagine the most easiest way:
Install a dialog instance on a new server and make sure it can connect nicely to the database. Then shut down the CI on the database server, copy the profiles (and adapt them) and start your CI on the new server. If that doesn't work at the first time you can always restart the CI on the database server again.

  • IP Change on SAP Servers

    Hi,
The purpose of this question is because our company is moving the main headquarters to another plant and we need to move the site, and this also includes the SAP Servers to another location.
So we need to change the IP addresses for every SAP Server that we have.
    We have the following architecture:
1 SAP application server defined with hostname SAP-APP (Production system). Operating System is Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with Service Pack 2.
1 SAP DB Server defined with hostname PRODUCCION (Productive DB). Database is MS SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 4 and Operating System Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with Service Pack 2.
1 QAS and DEV Server with a local Database defined with the hostname QAS_DEV. Operating System is Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with Service Pack 2 and the database is MS SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 4.
We do not use Print Servers or IP Printers on SAP, we use default printers for every user, using the SWIN: Windows printing via SAPlpd.
Our SAP Version is SAP ERP Central Component 5.0.
    Notes related.
And then, we checked the related notes and topics on market place for changing an IP address to a SAP Server and found the following ones:
Note 403708 – Changing an IP address.
Note 88346 – Changing the RFC destination if IP changes are made.
Note 25917 – Changing to /etc/hosts are not accepted.

    Hi,
you are not changing the SAP System Host name, you are only change the IP address SAP Server.
for that you are only worried about the RFC destination which are created using IP  address of host,
you need to change those RFC and assign correct IP address.

  • SAPproxy - No Entry for "SAP Servers" in Server Explorer

I have had to re-install the Developer Studio and the .Net connector 2.0.
Now I can select Project -> Add New Item -> SAP Connector
The problem is there is no entry in the server explorer for "SAP Servers".  All I see is the "Servers" entry.
At this point there is not a way for me to create proxies.

  • To avoid downtime during Check disk activity in SAP servers

    Hi Everyone,
Due to errors in logical drives , often this CHKDSK activity has been carried out in SAP servers which require a downtime for carrying out this task. Could any one suggest if we can run this activity without any downtime or any alternatives/proactive measures can be done ? Please help on this.
    Thank you all

This is the same as trying to change tires on a car while it is driving on a highway, it's just not possible. How should an operating system repair a filesystem while the system is running and trying to read and write just from that filesystem?

  • Sap servers

How many type of server should be there in sap system. Suppose if company implementing sap in their company.
Just give me a brief idea about that.
As I want to know about the servers used in the sap system
    thanks & regrads...

    Hi Sam,
The SAP R/3 system is made up of a group of servers and a group of services. Depending on the function they
perform, there are three types of servers:
<b>Database server.</b> Basically contains the database engine and associated processes. The database layer contains the database system used by all servers. Since all database system used by R/3 support remote SQL, it can run separately from the rest of the SAP system. Notice that what distinguishes a
SAP system ID (SID or SAPSID) one from another is the unique database for each system.
<b>Application servers.</b> Run the SAP services. The application server layer contains a SAP kernel which can run ABAP programs. It consists of a dispatcher task and a group of work processes. The dispatcher allocates the resources needed to perform the request to its work processes, which carry the
request out. The distinction ibetween application server and SAP instance made on the basis of the hardware or software concept of client/server computing. From a hardware point of view, an application server denotes a computer running application services, while from the software point of view it denotes a group of processes running under the same parameters, with just one dispatcher and
a shared common memory pool. This means that a SAP instance is conceptually the same as an application server from the software point of view. But remember that if the server computer has enough memory and CPU power, it could have room for several SAP instances. Nevertheless, if the server computer running the application services has just one SAP instance (which is very common),
then server computer = application server = SAP instance.
<b>Presentation servers.</b> Run the SAP front&#8722;end interface. The presentation server layer is responsible for displaying the SAP user interface, sending outputs to the user, and receiving the user input to be sent to the application layer of the system
    <b>Transaction SM51</b> displays all the <b>SAP servers</b>.

  • SAP Servers in different Environment

    Hi,
I have a DEV system in AIx Machine
I am planning to install a QAS system in HP unix.
Please tell me the problems which can occur due to this

    Hi,
Before I finish reading your questions there is something that pops into my eyes:
    > 2 servers for DB for which high availability is taken care by Oracle RAC. These servers of DB are not done with any type of OS clustering.
If I take a look at SAP Note 527843 "Oracle RAC support in the SAP environment" I can see the following:
    Linux (x86, x86_64, IA64, Power):
General Availability on Red Hat and SuSE Linux.
    RAC 9.2/10.2:
    Oracle Clusterware + OCFS2 1.2.x  (x higher or equal to 3) or
Oracle Clusterware + Network Appliance NFS or
Oracle Clusterware + EMC Celerra NFS or
As of SLES 10 Support Package 2 or RHEL 5.2:
               Oracle Clusterware + OCFS2 1.4.x
RedHat Linux: OCFS is available at: http://oss.oracle.com/projects/ocfs2/files.
SuSE Linux:   As of SLES9, OCFS2 is contained in the distribution.
AFAIK, that means that your SAP installation will NOT be supported because you need some clustering at OS level.
In addition, I do not know how you can share a database without any type of OS clustering.
It may be that I have not understood you properly, in that case sorry

  • SAP servers setup on WRVS4400N & SR2016

    Hi All
I am trying to setup four servers (SAP1.company.com, SAP2, SAP3, SAP4 ... hosting set of SAP applications) on the SR2016 switch in such a way that if someone from the internet accesses SAP1.company.com (from the SAP GUI client) the request/traffic should be forwarded to SAP1 server.....and if SAP2.company.com is accessed then it should be routed to SAP2 server.
In the WRVS4400N routher I see the "port range forwaring..." under "Firewall settings" and I can add the port and IP information like:
    S1   50000   50500   192.168.10.5     (this is the SAP1.company.com IP address)
    S2   50000   50500   192.168.10.6     (this is the SAP2.company.com IP address)
    S3   50000   50500   192.168.10.7     (this is the SAP3.company.com IP address)
    S4   50000   50500   192.168.10.8     (this is the SAP4.company.com IP address)
but the confusion that I have is if an internet user accesses SAP1.company.com then I am not sure if the it would go only to SAP1 server OR would any of the four servers be randomly picked.
    thanks

I think the WRV54G has the UPNP forwarding at the same time it has both wireless and VPN. I am not completely familiar with SAP but I know that if there are multiple servers behind a NAT firewall router, you need to ensure that each of these servers uses also different service port so that Layer 3 communication can properly take place. You are correct if these ports are all the same, there is no clear destination of the data. In layer 3 communication networks talk from a source WAN IP with its port and the destination should also be defined as the destination WAN IP with its port. There are situation that behind the router there are servers that uses the same WAN service port like web servers. If for example you have 3 web servers, more or less they us port 80 as the WAN service port. For these web servers to work behind the router, the router should know defined internal service ports that can be made in the web server ports settings. This is where UPNP forwarding takes place. It distributes a common WAN service port to the internal service ports defined in each server. I’m sure this can be defined also using SAP.

  • Rebooting SAP Servers using SMS?

When we patch our Windows based servers, we deploy the patches with SMS, then we manually:
    - Shutdown all of the SAP services (first ensuring that they are not in use - no automated jobs running, etc.)
    - Restart the server
    - Start the SAP services
The SAP services/components we have include R/3, BW, HR, ME, EP6, EP7, Solman, Content Server, etc.
Everything runs on Windows and uses MS SQL.
Is it possible to perform the 3 steps listed above using SMS?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paul,
I think the 2nd step is possible, but this will stop or kill all processes and in the case of SAP you'll be better off making sure all the systems stop properly before restart and also check they start properly after restart.

Physical movement of SAP Server and Pre,Post steps ?
    Hello Experts,
Need your help here..  Our Data Center is moving to Different Place  , hence IM team proposed Physical movement of SAP Server to New Location.
In our Landscape we have SRM 4.0, XI 3.0 & BW 3.5 , ITS 620 and Requisites Servers available . As these are out of  SAP support we don't have expert for ITS and Requisite Server installation and configutaiton.
Please  please  tell me Will this process work ? if yes then what are odds n cons in this procedure , Pre and Post Steps need to perform.
Please help me as early as possible as we need to take decision ASAP.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Raja.
    Net-weaver Consultant.

    Hi Raja,
You need to take care of following
