CM 5.1 and Tenants

Hi guys,
Following on from my thread here...
http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Unified%20Communications%20and%20Video&topic=IP%20Phone%20Services%20for%20Developers&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddd25c9
Managed to get the XML Directory and the Web Directory all setup in CM 4.2(3) for discrete tenants but now that 5.1 is available, there is a the tendency to upgrade so just wondering if it would be possible to do the same thing that was done in JS with the directory.asp files etc on 4.2(3) in CM5.1?
Can't justify a test lab with 5.1 at the moment so would like someone's experience on creating tenants in 5.1 and if it is possible and how easy would it be compared to CM4.2(3).
Edit: I see that the CM6.x is getting released in Spring 2007 so I think it would make sense to wait for that but still would like to know about the scripting involved.
Cheers,
M

Even with CCM 6, the directory isn't going to be asp based anymore.. so you'd need to install CCM 6 on Windows, get the appropriate JSP files and edit them appropriately. And if you end up using a Linux based CCM, you'll just have to host the page on another server. Since so far we don't have access to the filesystem of linux based CCMs, nobody without root access can really tell you how involved making changes would be.. since every piece of information is in the DB, I would suppose that it's rather easy to make changes, at least if Cisco sticks to sending sql commands from the script and doesn't suddenly switch to stored procedures in the DB.
As far as the language goes.. it's safe to say you'll need to learn JSP.. or create your own page from scratch (and that'll most likely only work with a Windows based installation as you can't go around messing with the DB configuration on a Linux box).

  • Security Profiles - Difference between SYSTEM and TENANT admin user?

    Hi,
In the OnDemand Enterprise workbook, some defualt security profiles have been configured.  This includes one called 'Tenant Admin'.   When I look in the system there is also a profiule called 'System Admin'.  Could somebody please explan the differences between system and tenant regarding these profiles?   I assume we shoul drarely use System Admin, and Tenant Admin is the safer option?

    Hi,
As you mentioned there are 2 status can be maintained for documents like Equipment Master, Notification, Maintenance Order & other important business documents.
In case, client feels that system status is not enough to capture the details of the object, then user status can be used.
System statuses will be updated automatically based on business transactions which will be done on SAP.
For example, once the equipment is created, System status would CRTD (Created). If you install the same to some superior equipment or FL, then status would be INST (Installed).
If you keeping that equipment in Spare, then for that, you have to maintain separate User Status like AVLB (Available in Stock / Spare) so that through IH08, by using User status, you can the report which is available as spare.
These user status as per the name, should be updated by the user manually.

  • Back to My Mac not working-a diagnosis and a solution

    Hello all,
I own a small business and relied on Back to My Mac while traveling. I have had connection issues with BTMM since MobileMe was discontinued. I have found a solution but it is not an Apple solution. Skip to the end if you'd like the straight dope.
FYI: I have exhausted all possible Apple-centric solutions, to the best of my knowledge. This was verified over the phone during an extensive troubleshooting session with a senior Apple specialist. All Macs and OS involved are optimized (in theory) to work with Back to My Mac. The appropriate file sharing options were checked. Users had appropriate access privileges. I have a valid MobileMe ID that has transferred over smoothly to iCloud. Firewall settings were not the issue.
But before we go further, if you are having BTMM connectivity issues, you might want to examine this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4071540
And see if it does the trick for you. It seems to have worked for a lot of people. But if it doesn't, please read on.
I have an iMac at my office that I connect to. I have a MacBook that I use to make the remote connections. Before MobileMe was discontinued, I read all support docs on how to make the transition to iCloud. Nevertheless, once MobileMe was discontinued, I began to have BTMM connection issues. My Macbook could "see" my iMac, and vice versa, but once connection was attempted, either through "Share Screen" or "Connect As…",  the status bar would run indefinitely and no connection would complete.
First, I tried the Keychain solution indicated above. No dice.
Then I saw the System Preferences>iCloud message that Back to My Mac required NAT Port Mapping and/or Universal Plug and Play settings on my router. I have an old Linksys router, and I was able to upgrade its settings to UP&P, but not to NAT Port Mapping. The situation did not improve.
I went to an Apple Store, spoke with a pair of salespeople who informed me that the problem would most likely be solved by replacing my old router with Airport Extreme, which would automatically upgrade my network to the necessary UP&P and NAT-PM protocols, and if any issues existed after that, they would probably be firewall-related, which I could either fix on my own or talk to an Apple person about.
After installing Airport Extreme, the situation did not improve, and I called Apple Support. I entered the serial number into the web page, and was informed that I was not qualified for tech support because my warranty had expired, even though I had made the purchase the previous evening. I checked the option that indicated that I thought this was in error and that I was in fact qualified, and ten minutes later, I received a phone call from Apple.
At first, I was on the line with a Airport Extreme specialist, who ran down the Airport Utility checklist. With my wife at the Macbook at home, and myself in my office at the iMac and on the phone with the Apple specialist, the troubleshooting began. Once it was apparent that nothing was working, I was transferred to a "senior" specialist who indeed knew everything under the sun about networking and Back to My Mac, at least as far as I could tell. We checked various settings on all devices, Airport configurations, iCloud account validity, my network's firewall settings, etc.
Finally, the specialist suggested we check the settings on my home router, which was supplied by my ISP and not an Apple device. I asked him why. He said that if we enabled UP&P and NAT-PM on my home router, that would probably help make the connection. I informed him that while that might be a short-term fix, I travel as part of my job and need to make remote connections to my office, often from places where I have no control over the router settings. He informed me that because of those "variables" I might very well continue to experience connection issues, and that in some locations I would be able to connect, and some, not.
On the heels of all the time and money spent thus far, I was in disbelief. We spent some more time affirming beyond question that he was actually telling me what I thought he was telling me, and I cordially thanked him for his time and we ended the phone support session.
THE STRAIGHT DOPE: I learned from a senior Apple specialist that network and router settings not only have to be just right at the server location but *also* the remote location in order for Back to My Mac to work. Simply having an iCloud ID is not always enough. If you travel, you most likely have no control over router settings at your hotel, coffee shop, etc., and if you rely on remote connections as part of your job, you can't afford to take the chance that wherever you reside might not be BTMM compatible. I signed up for LogMeIn Pro, at a cost of $59.95 a year. It has screen sharing, file sharing *and* iPhone access, which BTMM does not offer. My remote connections are now almost instantaneous and without issue. Problem solved.
Please note, I have no ax to grind with Apple, I enjoy using their products and believe they are superior to Windows machines. I am also more than happy with the level of expertise, courtesy and efficiency of their support people. The Airport Extreme that I purchased is pretty cool, has kickass wireless signal, and has reduced the amount of wiring on my desk thanks to its wireless printing and hard drive capabilities. I feel a little burned that I bought it for no reason, but I have 14 days to return it, no questions asked. We'll see.
In conclusion, Back to My Mac does not seem to work as advertised. I am curious if anyone has had a similar experience. Hope this helps someone or at least, saves you some time.

Thanks for your thorough post. I too need to use BTMM on almost a daily basis for my job, and it has fallen short countlness times. I too have taken great pains to check all of the typical trouble shooting steps within iCloud and in the Apple keychain on each Mac etc, but after the latest rounds of system updates from Apple a few weeks ago to Mountain Lion, BTMM on one of my Macs is completely broken and unusable. I would concur that if you need remote access for "real" mission critical use, just bite the bullet and pay for a service like LogMeIn. You won't regret it and you will get real software support.

  • HD package confusion - sports channels and Extreme HD

I'm a recent FIOS convert from Optimum. After about 10 days I can say I am very pleased for the most part with the new service. Picture quality is better and I like the guide and DVR features better than my Optimum STB.
The one problem I have had surfaced on the day of my installation. I ordered the Extreme HD package along with the movie promo package for 3 months. When I went to test my new gear with the Golf Channel HD it showed "not subscribed" and my installer explained that I wouldn't be getting that (or Tennis, which I also wanted) if I wasn't also subscribed to a Sport Package.
I pulled out the channel line-up document I was given when I placed the order at  Verizon kiosk. It's the "Downstate New York August 2009" color brochure. In it there is a big red box for "Extreme HD" that says (quoting now) "EXTREME HD includes all channels in the box below & in FIOS TV Local. Additional subscriptions may be added. To order this package or other subscription packages go to verizon.com/fiostvcentral." All of the sport channels, including Golf, Tennis, NFL, etc. are listed in the box and there is nothing to suggest that additional subscriptions are needed. That's what the salesman confirmed.
So, my poor installer guy said he couldn't do anything. I called Verizon, got shuffled around a bit, and finally got to someone who tried explaining that the brochure in my hand wasn't actually the one for the area I live in. And yet my community is one of those listed under Local Programming.
In the end what he offered to do was to give me the additional sport package subscription for a discount for the next 12 months. At that point I was tired of spending time on the phone. But I am still not happy about it.
Has anybody had a similar experience? It's the only black mark on my FIOS so far, but it's a pretty big one.

Believe me, I have been over this thing with a magnifying glass looking for something like that. It just isn't there. Of course, there is the standard language at the end of the brochure that "Programming services offered within each package are subject to change..."
Still, it feels a bit like bait and switch. I was getting Golf and Tennis (both SD and HD) in Optimum for no additional charges.

  • Cluster utilization and self-provisioning

I am moving to a cloud infrastructure with VCAC for self-provisioning. How does this impact my target utilization for my HA cluster?  Previously I was targeting running each cluster at 80% utilization of RAM and CPU on each host for average peak utilization.  now I am going to allow vms to be self-provisioned.  I won't control the provisioning process anymore but various clients and tenants can provision VMs at will without my notice.  As a result, I have to be able to have capacity available more quickly to add VMs, and not suddenly run out of cluster capacity.  I want to minimize waste by running my clusters to capacity, but I also need to maximize elasticity.  What are some guidelines on how to do this?  Anyone have experiences to share -
    1. what did you pick as a target utilization figure and why ?
    2. how did you capacity plan / forecast for cluster capacity?
    3. did you use admission control?

Sounds like a cool project. Keep in mind that from an infrastructure standpoint HA and admission control are still trying to solve the same problem, recover VMs from a host or OS failure as quickly as possible.
As an example, if your new cluster has 20 hosts and you want to be able to have a host in maintenance mode and still suffer a host failure and you've decided to use % based admission control policy (this is the default recommendation, I would recommend you evaluate your environment and determine if it is the right option for you), you'll want to set the % at 10%. This will ensure that your cluster has sufficient resources to restart all running VMs. Keep in mind that unless VMs have reservations, HA just reserves capacity to start the VM, there is no guarantee of performance.
As far as your target utilization, that depends on the SLAs you are providing and your tolerance for risk.
At the last customer I worked for the answers were:
    1. We reserved capacity in a cluster such that we could have a host in maintenance mode and still lose a host and have no VMs experience performance degradation
    2. vCOps
    3. Yes

  • How to tell if a movie is a reference after the fact and components issue..

    Hello,
I am unsure if a quicktime movie I made is self-contained or a reference movie. It is not playing and I was told I need components to play it (though I am not sure which ones) .... but what got me thinking is I looked at the data size in the inspector window and it says 20 gb and the file size says 2 gb. Is there a way to know if it's a ref movie or self-contained?
This will solve my first question, and of course my next is how do I get it to play? What do I need to install? How do I know what components are needed? It was exported as a DVCPRO HD 720p60. I have quicktime Pro - I think it's version 7.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the movie is self-contained...I am seeing (in the properties window, resources tab) the original movie pointing to one .mov file and ten .mov1-10 files underneath. Does that sound self-contained?
No, afraid not. When I said "the file will point to itself," I meant the resource will be the same as the open file's physical location on your hard drive. If it is pointing to other files with different names/locations or to a URL on the internet, then it is a reference file.
I don't have FCP on my system. Do you know what components for QT I need to install to playback the DVCPro HD movie? Is it possible to play such a file w/out having FCP?
Sorry my answer was so vague. QT Kirk has already "nailed" the answer for you. You have to install the FCP application. This application will install an entire set of encoding and decoding "DVCPROHD" components. Since your system does not have FCP installed, you should ask whoever provided these files to either transcode the files to AIC/AIFF for editing on a non-FCP system or export their FCP completed project to a common distribution/delivery format like H.264/AAC.

  • ITunes, Remote.app v2: Does v2 still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3? (Plus v3 and iTunes issues)

Remote.app (version 2): Does it still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3?
That is basically the main question I've come to ask (with some side commentary in parenthesis below).
After trying out iTunes Remote App version 3, I saw that it scrambles playlists (such as Recently Purchased), which makes my playlists worthless. For example, using Remote.app, it's no longer possible to simply play the songs you bought over the last week at the iTunes Store using the Recenlhy Purchased Playlist. Since I buy a lot of music through the iTunes Store, I naturally want to listen to what I just paid for, just as I could using Remote.app version 2.
But it's not just the Recenly Purchased playlist, it's all my playlists. Through the last decade, day in and day out, I've carefully orgnized hundreds of playlists that I've very crafted, song by song like old mix tape casettes.
They payoff for this work has been enormous. Since starting with mp2 in 1995, then mp3 and continuing through to the thousands of dollars I've spent purchasing songs through the iTunes Store and tens of thousands on iPods, iPhones, iPads, and computers—I've been able to make music match whatever mood or music was juuust right for the moment, making for great moments and memories with friends and families. For some artists, I always want to hear their latest songs first or I want to to hear top rates songs first. Other lists are about creating a particular mood for just about any occasion. I can even shift the mood in the room with the right music list. It's really been fantastic the memories and moments I've been able to set the tone with the right song, and most of this has been not the song itself, but the flow of music I've created by orgnizing music lists. That's a lot of work I've invested. So the order of the songs matters a lot to me, especially the very first song that starts that list. That's the song I want to hear first, not somewhere in the middle.
As of Remote.app version 3, these carefully crafted songlists are scrambled, making the App worthless. When I first noticed this I couldn't believe it, must be a bug. Nope, no bug, by design I found out. It's like when Lucy pulls the football away. It's mean spirited to take back features you've sold and promoted and people have grown to rely on in the workflow of their lives. So I downgraded back to Remote.app version 2.
((Actually, they're not really technically scrambled, they're actually presented in alphabertical order, which I think is really the same thing to me. Think about it: listening to an artists work alphabetically by title is really the most random and completely scrambled way to listen to their music. Or if you don't want to listen to them alphabetically, you can have them shuffled. Those are now the only two choices. Either way, the lists are jumbled, and like iTunes 11, several of the most powerful features have been taken away. In this case the exact thing that's missing is that the iTunes Remote no longer reflects the sort order of iTunes playlists.
I don't know if this is a quiet, update-by-update shift away from our playlists and towards iTunes Radio or not, but I would think so. Why else would you make it less powerful. To quote Merlin Mann Apple tends to "fire a warning shot" feature wise before taking something away. The Finder has gotten less and less powerful in finding files and folders by their name and size through the last decade.
I'm now noticing the same thing with iTunes, it's becoming more difficult to find the currently playing song. In iTunes 10, Go to Current Song would open the folder containing the list of the currently playing song, highlight and move that list to the top of the left column and then highlight that song. In iTunes 11, Go to Current Song will only highlight the folder that contains that song and nothing more. At that point you're on your own to hunt town the currently playing song. This feature has been broken—on purpose I suspect.))
SO—I don't want to be forced into Remote.app version 3 and have my playlists scrambled on my iPhone and iPad. Is there anyone who knows the answer from first hand experience?
If customer loyalty is as important to Apple as it should be taking away features in iTunes and Remote app will only drive old customers away.
    Thanks!!
    David

I like that I would be able to maintain my iPhoto library data for Faces and Places in Aperture, but am concerned that when the iPhoto library is "upgraded" for Aperture, and I decide I don't really need that program, the upgraded library won't work with iPhoto anymore.
The iPhoto library isn't changed in any way by Aperture. Aperture will import the Library and you can choose to copy the files to the Aperture Library or reference them within iPhoto. As long as you don't delete files from the iPhoto Library via Aperture (which you could do if you choose to Reference) there is no impact on iPhoto
Will I still be able to use iPhoto to access and organize my library, or will it be forever converted for use with Aperture?
    They are completely different libraries.
Recently, iPhoto bugs make Events show up multiple times in iTunes when syncing for iPhone and iPad.
    Fixed in the 9.1.3 update.
Will I find a better user experience with Aperture, or does it also use the single file library and suffer the same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing lately?
Like iphoto, Aperture can use the "single file library" or it can use a Referenced Library (just like iphoto can). Note that using a Referenced Library offers not a whit more in terms of features or capabilities. It's file storage plain and simple. Nothing more.
No you won't see the "same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing..." because Aperture is an entirely different allication.
But you my see Aperture or Lightroom struggles

  • IPod Nano 5th Generation dead and gone forever? Tried every restart method possible

(skip to second paragraph if you want to get straight to the point)
Let me start out saying, my ipod is my everything. Yes I'm pathetic.
Anyway, this is my third iPod and my third nano. I bought it used because the news ones look annoying. But it was from a reliable seller and it worked/looked like new. I have had it for many months. Anyway, I have a bad habit of sleeping with it. I try to take it out before I doze off, but eh sometimes I forget. So this morning I wake up with it still in my ears and I take it out and accidently drop it (happens all the time to be honest). Wasn't a long or hard drop though. I go back to sleep, and wake up in an hour and plug it to my charger (like always). I go to add some more songs to it on my computer a few hours later and it won't even turn on.
The screen was blank and it wouldnt turn on at all. I plugged it into my computer, and iTunes didnt even recognize it. So having had an ipod nano for years, of course the first thing I did was restart it. And restart it. And restart it. With no results at all. It had been on the charger for hours, so it couldnt be dead. Anyway, I still let it charge with a blank screen. I googled loads on how to get it to start, and finally just tried messing with buttons. While it was plugged in to the computer, I pressed down menu and center (like you would to restart it) but for an abnormally long time. I am talking 2 minutes. And finally the computer recognized it. It asked to restore it and my heart sank because I have stuff on my ipod (200 songs) that were never backed up to my computer. And I dont know all 200 songs...ugh. Anywhooo...The screen said "Do not disconnect" but it looked older like the old nano's "do not disconnect" screen. And I let it restore, but it wouldnt? I forget why it said it couldnt (something mounted?) but it led me to a page that didnt help at all.
I unplugged it and it froze on that "do not disconnect" screen and so I tried several more times to restart it and do what I had just done previously (hoping it would restore), but it still just froze. I let it die out. Came back to it in 6 hours, and tried playing with it some more. I attempted to restart it about 8 more times and finally after holding down those buttons until my fingers calused, there was hope. The screen read "Connect to Charger" and it was the new modern looking screen message and image. I did as it told me, and connected to my iHome charger, but ugh it died out and it wouldnt restart. Came back to it in a hour and tried to restart it and finally I saw that lovely apple logo. And yep thats all I saw. It froze like that. And ten minutes later died out.
At this point I have a feeling there is no hope for it, but any tips would be lovely. Even a way to revover that lost music. Its not on my computer. I was dumb to put it straight on my ipod and not in my itunes library. Thank you for reading through this novel. Any help would be apprectiated.

I have the same iPod Nano and when it freezes, I press the menu and center button at the same time until the Apple logo apears. That should wake up your iPod Nano. Also, make sure the lock is off.

  • Why is my ipod touch screen black and when i try to turn it on it won't turn on ?

i was listening to my ipod last week and it went dead , so i plugged it in to my laptop to charge it & to download some songs , the icon that shows its charging didn't come up so i left it in for an our or 2 but my computer still detected the ipod & itunes came up straight away, so wen i went back to it it still wasn't charged so i tried to turn it on the screen went white for a few seconds and ten back to black , my ipod still won't come on. anyone ave any idea's?

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. Tried a restore with iTunes? If not try it and it should work. If this does not work, take it to your local applestore as ths COULD (not saying it is definately) be a Hardware issue.
Hope this helps, Let me know hoe you get on!

In fact, when I am in iTunes and click on either my iPad or IPhone it shows the sync options and ten within 10 or so seconds iTunes gets the "closed unexpectedly" error message.  Very frustrating....updated to latest iTunes version yesterday, and this issue started today.  Thanks in advance for your ideas.

  • Linux 3.12 and streaming media on a Dell XPS 13: kernel panic

    Hi all,
Shortly after upgrading from Linux 3.11.6 to 3.12, I started getting kernel panics while playing streaming media (in particular from Youtube and The Daily Show). Here is a camera shot. The crash would not take place immediatly, but perhaps after 15 minutes of streaming. After downgrading to Linux 3.11.6 everything works fine. Therefore, it is clear to me that the issue is related to the Linux 3.12 kernel, but this is all I know.
The fifth-to-last line from the camera shot reads:
    [11438.332699] RIP [<ffffffff8129e160>] __sg_page_iter_start+0x20/0x20
A quick Google search reveals that __sg_page_iter_start is a function inside the scatterlist.h library in the Linux kernel, which apparently deals with memory paging, but my knowledge about this stuff is so poor that the message is almost meaningless. I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me a hint about this.
I did not find anything useful in the journal, but here are the last few journal lines for 2 different crash instances:

In the first journal log, the following line calls my attention:
    Nov 15 00:26:02 xps kernel: perf samples too long (2530 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50100
However, this seems to be a normal occurrence after playing games (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=170471), so I would guess this is not related to the kernel panic.

Posted to [email protected], I hope I just haven't dawdled for too long and this can make it to 3.13 final.
Hopefully this should be sufficient information, I've linked to this thread too.  I've also mentioned I'm willing to beam one at someone from Amazon, with 2-day shipping to the USA the Pluggable branded adapter is just under NZD$40, which I can easily live with.
    ===========================================================================================================
USB3 gigabit ethernet adapters with the ASIX AX88179 chipset (LevelOne USB0401-V3, Plugable USB3-E1000, SIIG JU-NE0211-S1 and others) are experiencing kernel panics in usb_hcd_map_urb_for_dma since 3.12.  The issue does not seem to directly correlate with low or high network activity, occurring seemingly at random.  Some panics occurred less than 5 minutes from boot and tens of megabytes of network transfer, while on other occasions it would be stable for multiple days with tens to hundreds of gigabytes of line-rate throughput and several sleep/resume cycles.
Both my Sony Vaio Pro 13 and another user reporting this issue on the Arch forums [1] are Intel-based, my USB controller is an 8086:9c31 (Lynx Point LP), the other is reported as a C210/7 series (unknown PID).  A third with a Haswell Dell XPS has attempted my workaround and reports similar success.
I have a mediocre quality photo of my laptop's screen from one of these panics [2], the call trace - which is similar but not identical between my machine and that of the other user reporting the issue - is as follows:

So far as I can tell, the driver is unaffected as late as 3.11.6, but problematic as of 3.12 (and still affected in 3.13-rc5).  The history of drivers/net/usb/ax88179_178a.c for this time period yields this patch, which at least in my somewhat limited understanding appeared a likely candidate.  I've reverted this on my system - against several linux-next builds from the last 3-4 weeks - and have had no issues with this network controller since.
    commit 3804fad45411b48233b48003e33a78f290d227c8
    Author: Ming Lei <[email protected]>
    Date:   Thu Aug 8 21:48:25 2013 +0800
USBNET: ax88179_178a: enable tso if usb host supports sg dma
This patch enables 'can_dma_sg' flag for ax88179_178a device
if the attached host controller supports building packet from
discontinuous buffers(DMA SG is possible), so TSO can be enabled
and skb fragment buffers can be passed to usb stack via urb->sg
        directly.
With the patch, system CPU utilization decreased ~50% and throughput
increased by ~10% when doing iperf client test on one ARM A15 dual
        core board.

Unfortunately I have not retained the built kernel from a broken 3.12 build, so the system information below reflects the patched linux-next kernel I am running currently.
I understand this may be a somewhat obscure piece of hardware, I am willing to assist by drop-shipping one to someone from Amazon (or local country equivalent if the price is not extortionate) should it be required.
