CMC - Promotion Management Tool

Hi,
I created a user account in CMC for promotion management tasks. Promotion is successful only if the user is a member of Administrator. I have given all rights for the user under CMC--->Application -->Promotion Management tools.
BI 4.0 Edge. SP06 Patch 1
Any help is appreciated.
Thank You
Veena

Yes Veena, I think Users may not have to be part of Administrators group in order to promote the content from one environment to another if they are provided with access to the Promotion Management through CMC>Applications area and also if they have access to the content to be promoted.
Refer to Promotion management section(15.1.3 Application Access Rights) of the below guide for more details on granting access to other users to promotion management.

  • Promotion Management Push or Pull?

    Hi Pro's,
I would like to know what's the best practice when using Promotion Management in the Central Management Console (CMC) with regards to what server to use to host the Promotion Management jobs. Source (push) or destination (pull) ?
Lets say I'm migrating folders, reports and dashboards from Development (source) to QA (destination) on the same network, do I:
Create the Promotion Management jobs on Development (push)
or create the Promotion Management jobs on QA (pull)?
The outcome should be exactly the same.
Environment: SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 1
    Thanks
    Gerrie

    Hello Gerrie,
When You are migrating object from same version of SAP BO server. that time Promotion management toll will be helpful. Through Promotion Management Tool, Both can be possible (source and destination as well. But generally you have to go to the destination server and connect to source system and then select object which you want to migrate and promote it. You also can scheduled promote.

  • Promotion Management instances limitations.

    Hi All,
I am migrating some reprots from BO 3.1 to BI 4.1SP3. I have migrated a folder from 3.1 prod to 4.1 UAT using UMT, which is having around 80 reports + 7000 instances.
Now i want to move these reports and instances to production using Promotion management tool ,will promotion management job supports for large no of instances?. is there any limitation on no of instances using Promotion management..
    Thanks in advance,
    Divi.

Promotion management is not an option for this scenario.
It has timeout issues and when promoting large content it goes through many complexities.(Dependency calculations and security calculations)
Best available option for you is LCM CLI.

  • Lifecycle Management Tool XI R4 Not finding the binary

    Hi,
I am not finding LCM XI R4 tool to install, I knew that till XI 3.x it was a separate tool and in XI R4 it is a plug-in web application.
I am not finding the LCM software to install (not sure it is a separate one) in SAP support page also.
Any valuable input is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Srini

    Hi Srini,
Starting SAP BI 4.x Life Cycle Manager is the part of Server install. There is no separate installer available for it.
It has been re-branded as Promotion Management and is available in CMC. If you are using BI 4.0 prior to SP04, you can access the same using http://servername:portno/BOE/LCM
    Hope it helps.

  • Third-Party User Management Tools

I'm looking for recommendations for third-party user management tools that can do the following:
    - Identify and bulk-expire/no visibility users that are inactive for >XXX days
    - Identify users with auto-forward rules
    - Bulk-delete inactive accounts (from GW database only, not eDirectory accounts)
    - Maybe even bulk-move inactive/expired accounts to a "dead accounts" post office?
I have an immediate mandate to clean up our environment, and I don't see how to do this in bulk with existing native tools. It's just one guy (me) versus 42 post offices and 23,000 user accounts...
    Thanks!

You can create your own tools using the GroupWise Administrative Object API and the GroupWise Object API.
Please refer to the Cool Solutions article I wrote ( shameless self promotion ) "Scripting GroupWise" - Scripting GroupWise | Novell User Communities for more information on the GroupWise Admin API. I suggest that you modify the script listUser.vbs to include domain name ( GWUser.PostOffice.Domain.Name ) , post office name ( GWUser.PostOffice.Name ), visibility ( GWUser.Visibility ) and last login date ( GWUser.MailboxLastLoginDate). You will need to run an audit report on each post office to update the MailboxLastLoginDate property. Import the output into Excel and sort / filter accordingly for analysis.
Setting an expiration date ( MailboxExpDate ) and / or visibility ( Visibility ) is done by assigning values to the respective properties and using the commit method - e.g GWUser.Commit
Identifying accounts with auto-forward rules can be using GroupWise Object to log into each account using a trusted application key. I posted ( more shameless self promotion ) some sample code to list proxy access in another thread - https://forums.novell.com/novell-pro....html#poststop. It is not too difficult to modify the code to iterate through rules and select those that include the action forward.
Deleting is be done using the the delete method - e.g. GWuser.Delete(eadGW) where eadGW is constant with the value 1.
I would advise against using the Administrative Object API to automate moving accounts. Best practices to avoid problems during moves involve running GWCheck against user objects until there are no errors. I perform structure, contents, contents with attclip and contents with deldupfolders checks until there are no error before moving accounts. There is also the issue of how many simultaneous moves the post office agents can handle. More accurately it is the number of simultaneous purges on the source post office that need to be monitored.
If you need more help with coding let me know.
    Sincerely,
    Bryan Vandenberg

  • Translation Management Tool FWM 01014

We are currently using SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 SP5.
The Translation Management Tool is currently giving us the following error when attempting to import a folder from the System Repository:
org.apache.axis2.AxisFault: Unable to find servers in CMS <[email protected]>:6400 ... All such servers could be down or disabled by the administrator (FWM 01014).
As mentioned in the SAP Knowledge Base Article 1974085 the two listed causes are:
    1. There is no available Translation Manager Service in one of the Adaptive Processing Servers
    2. Request Port for the CMS is not opened in the users firewall
When viewing the services in the APS on the CMC it does show a Translation Service but there are no configuration options for it. As well, there is currently no firewall set up either on the server or the client machine.
    Does anyone know a solution?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
1)Ping the Server machine with IP address and host name from the client machine. Ping the client machine with IP address and host name from the server machine.
2)If you are facing any issue then try making the host file entry on the server machine and client machine as below
    <IP Address> <Hostname> <FQDN> (OF Server)
    <IP Address> <Hostname> <FQDN> (OF Client)
Both the above entries to be made on the Server and client machine.

  • Error while accessing Promotion Management

    Hello all,
I am running BI 4.1 SP2. While trying to access Promotion Management in the CMC, I am getting the following error:
Sorry, Promotion Management application is unable to process your request.
The error from the server is: Unable to retrieve the root LCM folder. Please check if you have sufficient rights to perform promotion management.
And I am unable to see or create any jobs.
Any ideas on what could be wrong and how to solve it please?
    Thanks,
    Sudarshan

    Hi,
Do you have appropriate rights set on the LCM folder?
    Check the below :
Public folders --> LCM --> Promotion Jobs
Firs set General--> View Objects on LCM folder
and then followed by the below rights on the Promotion Jobs folder
Then make sure you have enough rights on the application "Promotion Management" as below
Let me know if this solves the purpose or not.
    Regards,
    Upendra.

  • Adding CMS for Promotion Manager

We are on BOE version 4.0 SP5 Patch 5. I am trying to locate instructions how to add new CMS so we can connect and promote objects from one system to another using 'Promotion Management' on CMC. By default only current CMS can be selected.
We have the systems - Dev, QA and Prod. We needed to reinstall Dev from scratch. After reinstall we cannot connect and pull content from other system
I searched for instructions but I could not find specific ones for SP5.

You don't need to add CMS for promoting objects from one environment to another.Only when youa re using override settings, you have to CMS systems.
Create a job, while creating a job, it will ask for source and destination systems locations. and then add the objects you want to promote.
Check if all the systems are same domain.

  • Promotion Management in BO4.1

    Hi All,
    I am working on BO4.1.
I am trying to do promotion using Promotion Managment.
In CMC, from Promotion Management, I have created new promotion job.
I am facing two issues, when I am clicking on Promote:
    1) In Summary tab, In list of object to be promoted, In Object Type I am getting Client Action with Name as Servers, Monitoring_CMC, Personal Categories... like this list of 20 objects, which I have not selected, please help me to know why this is coming automatically.
    2) When I am navigating to Test Promote tab, Test Promote option is disabled/greyed. And when I am trying to click on export its not allowing me to export the file.Giving error message: Unable to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sonal

    Hi Sunil,
Steps I have took to pomote are as below:
    1) In CMC, under Promotion management, I clicked New Job.
    2) I gave the name, details of source system , and defined destination as LCMBiar file and click create.
    3) Then selected the objects like Universe, Reports, Connections, Access level, Users Group, Users and click add & close.
    4) Then I checked Manage Dependencies.
    5) Then this job shows status as created.
    6) Now I check this created job and click promote.
    7) Now when I am clicking on Promote, in tab Test Promote I am getting the Test Promote button as disabled. Also in Destination when I select file system, didnt prompt me for location.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sonal

  • Promotion Management Security

    Hi All,
Any ideas on the following greatly appreciated...
    Using BO4.1 SP2
We are trying to allow some key users to move content from DEV to QAS environments using Promotion Management in the CMC.
These users, in a particular security group, have been given just Promotion Management access in the CMC (all other applications are denied).
When they log in to the CMC and click on Promotion Management, we would like them to see just their content?
However, they see all reports, universes, connections, etc.. in all folders
Is it possible for them to just see there reports to promote?
Do I have to apply another layer of security to restrict this content?
(I can't see this in Advanced Options in Application Promotion Management security either).
    Thank you, Matt.

    Hi Matt,
thats strange. They should only see their content based on the security.
I set this already up at a Customer in the same Version as you have and it worked. Did you followed these Best Practices?!

  • Disk Utitlity has "Lost Connection" with Disk Management tool"

[ Edited by Apple Discussions Moderator; please start a new topic about your technical issue. ]
    Running OSX10.3.8
    I installed:
    "iTunes" (6.0.2)
    "iPod Updater 2005-11-17" ((null))
    "iChat Update" (2.1)
    Went to repair disk permissions
    I get this error:
Disk Utitlity has "Lost Connection" with Disk Management tool" Please quit Disk Utility.
then it says quitting Disk Utility may render the disk useless. Stopping the scan just gives a "stopped by User" red text message in the DU screen.
Had to Quit. No other way out.
Now it will not repair "or" verify Disk permissions at all.
    What to do?
    Powermac G4 1.25ghz, OS9/OSX   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

Getting the same results booting off of the install CD. I even ran fsck -y after a soft boot(command S). Note I also installed the iPod updater and iChat update.
I'm getting a crash log that has to do with DiskManagement
    Path: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Resources/DiskManage mentTool
I tossed the pref file for Disk utility and tried to locate a pref for the Disk Management but nada...
Is there a prefs file that needs to be tossed?
Anyone do a recent Onyx Maintainence cleaning?
Is there a way to do an iTunes Uninstal and reinstall a previous version?

  • 'Disk Utility has lost connection with Disk Management Tool' w/ RAID 10 set

Using 4 internal drives, I have specified the following setup for each:
2 partitions, 1 'speed' of 5 GB and 1 'data' of whatever remains.
The 4 speed partitions stripe to a single RAID volume correctly.
The 4 data partitions are used to make a RAID 10 volume as follows:
The first 2 data partitions are mirrored to make a 'data-A'
The next 2 data partitions are mirrored to make a 'data-B'
    These complete correctly.
Upon attempting to strip data-A and data-B in order to finish the RAID 10 setup, Disk Utility quits with the following message:
"Disk Utility has lost connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility'.
A search here and on the nets reveals only that this message appeared in 10.3.x when attempting to repair disk permissions and had to do with a rogue iTunes support file. This is occurring on a blank system (no iTunes installed) so I don't think its the same cause.
Note that I was able to complete this setup under Tiger several times without issue, so it seems to be unique to Leopard. Does anyone know what is going on and hopefully suggest a workaround?

To answer my own issue and leave a marker here for others, I was able to successfully set up a RAID 10 partition using diskutil, indicating that the problem is Disk Utility itself and not the RAID implementation.
Disk Utility has proven itself to be bugridden (must restart frequently to get updated view of volumes; drops device names at various times; etc.) and this latest bug would seem to suggest that it should be avoided in favor of diskutil for any serious RAID construction.

  • Disk Utility has Lost Connection with the Disk Managment Tool

    Hi,
For starters, this problem is not associated with the thread that Brian Z. has posted at the top of this forum. Having said that, here's my problem:
I had installed Security Update 2006-003, and Quicktime 7.1. Permissions were repaired before and after each installation, and all went well.
Some hours later, I was experimenting with Apple Remote Desktop. I had activated ARD in the System Preferences>Sharing pane, and it provided me an IP address associated with ARD. I then turned on Airport, and ARD provided me with an IP address associated with that connection. However when I turned off my modem connection, System Preferences>Sharing hung, and had to be Force Quit.
    Console Log follows:
    ===== Mon May 15 2006 ===== 21:09:09 America/Anchorage =====
    2006-05-15 21:09:17.488 System Preferences[2732] Can't open input server /Library/InputManagers/Menu Extra Enabler.bundle
    2006-05-15 21:09:28.224 System Preferences[2732] ### Error:268435460 File:FileSharing.m Line:308

    2006-05-15 21:09:48.415 System Preferences[2732] ### Error:268435460 File:FileSharing.m Line:343
Thinking a plist had become corrupted, I trashed the following:
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
    com.apple.Remotemanagement.plist
    com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist.
System Preferences started out very slowly, but then all the panes except Sharing would work ok.
I booted from the install disk and performed a Disk Repair. There were no problems reported.
When I tried to run a Repair Permissions, after about 20 seconds I got the, "Disk Utility has lost connection with the disk management tool and can not continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility."
I quit D.U. and the Installer, and was able to successfully run a Repair Permissions from the D.U. in my Utilities folder. It had no problems to report.
Continuting to troubleshoot the System Preferences problem, I then trashed the com.apple.preferencepanes.cache. This solved my System Preferences>Sharing problem.
However, I am still unable to perform a Repair Permissions after booting from my install disk (I get the subject message). Repairing permissions from the Disk Utility in my Utilies folder works fine.
Any thoughts out there on a logical way to troubleshoot where my problem is? Is there a way to get a console log when I'm running DU from the install disk, or a comparable source??
    Thanks,
    Bob

I found this crash log that was generated about the time I had problems with System Preferences hanging.
