Cmd-Shift-1

This worked in previous versions as a keyboard shortcut for Top Sites. Does anyone know of a reason why this would be removed in 4.0.4?
Thanks.
All the best,
Tom

  • CMD + Shift constrain drag shortcut buggy in Photoshop CS6 (Mac)

Since moving to Photoshop CS6 a shortcut I regularly use for switching tool and dragging elements on a page is producing varying results. The CMD + Shift drag is very useful to allow users to drag elements constrained vertically or horizontally on the page. However since CS6 I have noticed it no longer allows me to drag effectively while my cursor is over the elements I want to move. It goes a bit nuts and does different angles instead of the constrain. This problem is intermittent and depending on the elements I am attempting to move will randomly depend on whether it works. This shortcut I have been using for years and has become native to me. So why now is it not working properly ?

I can reproduce this issue in Bridge CS6. Thanks for reporting!

  • Shortcut for Google Search (Cmd-Shift-L) Linked to Newsfire

I recently downloaded the now free RSS reader Newsfire just to try it. I didn't like it that much compared to NetNewsWire, so I trashed it with AppZapper, thus deleting all the files related to Newsfire.
Now every time I try to use the shortcut for Google Search on a selected piece of text in Safari (Cmd-Shift-L), it tries to link to Newsfire and add a new feed. This is highly annoying and worst of all, I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
The Newsfire site has nothing on it as far as a forum or an email to Dave Watanbe. I've heard the criticism that he's gotten in the past over the way he handles his business, so I've decided to try to fix the problem through these discussions.
    Anyone else having this problem?

I fixed it myself with the free Onyx program for Mac.
If you reset the Launch services Database under Maintenance, it fixes this issue.

  • Screenshot cmd-shift-4 not working after startup

Guys, please help me. I have a 7 months old Imac running on OS X 10.9.4 with a bluetooth/wireless keyboard.
Recently my keyboard shortcut for screenshot (cmd-shift-4) stopped working. The funny thing is when I restart, the screenshot shortcut works for a minute or two and suddenly stops working again. I'm guessing is it one of the daemons/startup/login items?
    I already tried:
-putting fresh batteries to the keyboard
    -reinstalling Mavericks
    -using another account name -
-checked the system preferences (under the keyboard shortcuts)
None of these worked. I use this function a lot in my work and it's driving me nuts for such a simple feature please help.

If you boot into Safe Mode, does Command-Shift-4 continue to work
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564>
If you use Command-Control-Shift-4 to capture the screen shot into the copy/paste buffer and then use Applications -> Preview -> File -> New from Clipboard, does that work?  I'm mostly checking if screen shot functionality works at all, or if it is just the creation of a file on the desktop, or if maybe some other function has taken over Command-Shift-4 hotkey.
If you look in Applications -> Utilities -> Console -> All Messages, do you get any message that might be related to screen capture at the exact moment you are trying to do a Command-Shift-4?

  • Cmd+shift+4 screenshot files do get created on Leopard??

Hi, I have a fresh install of Leopard that has since been "software updated" to 10.5.1.
When I cmdshift4 to create a screen shot, I get the screen area selector, and I hear the little camera shutter noise, but no files are created. In Tiger I used to get screenshot files created on my desktop "Picture 1", "Picture 2", and so on. But now I get nothing.
Using spotlight to search, the file don't appear to be anywhere on my system. I've reverted to using Grab to take screenshots which isn't nearly as quick and easy as the cmd-shift-4 key combination. (By the way, I'm logged in as a user who does not have admin capabilities, if that makes a difference.)
Is this functionality broken in Leopard? Any help is greatly appreciated,
    slegge

Typed 'screencapture test', heard the camera noise, and saw the following output (below). It appeared to create a file called '.test-k1Xg' in my home folder.

  • Power user function: cmd+shift+/ not activating menu items in Photoshop

In Photoshop (Mac OS X), I typically use the pattern type cmd+shift+/ to open the help menu, type the phrase of the menu item I want to use, and then hit enter to activate the selected menu item.
I just checked Photoshop CC and the enter key does not seem to correctly behave as it should. Instead of activating the selected menu item, it just dismisses the help menu.
Is there a way to force the enter key to behave correctly, as it does in other apps?

It seems to do the same running 14.1.2 on mac os x 10 6.8
It seemed to work fine before updating from version 14.0

  • My mac stops working after Screen capture (Cmd+Shift+4)

    Hi all,
this is really a serious issue!
After upgrading to 10.6.6, I have found a bug with the Screen capture feature.
After several screen shots (CmdShift4) OSX is hanging. You can move the mouse, but everything else is frozen.
I've tested it prior to the upgrade with 10.6.5 -> no problem
I've tested it with 10.6.6 on 2 different Macbook Pros (different models) and both have the same issue with 10.6.6
    Please apple, fix this bug!!
    thnx
    viTus

I don't think there is a bug for Apple to fix, as far as I can tell. I've taken plenty of screenshots using cmd-shift-4 since the update (I actually did a number just a few days ago), and my system is working just fine, as always. I also haven't heard any other reports of this kind of problem. So, the question is, what's going wrong with your systems?
Since it's happening on two different machines, my inclination would be to blame third-party software you've got installed. Try [starting up in Safe Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455]... does the problem still happen then? Safe mode disables third-party software that may be loading at startup/login, so if the problem goes away in safe mode, then it's just a matter of figuring out what software is causing the problem.
Also, are you using any other third-party hardware, especially input devices, with both MacBooks when you're taking the screen shots? If so, try disconnecting all of it and use just the built-in keyboard and trackpad. If the problem goes away then, it's probably a hardware incompatibility.

  • Cmd, shift, 4 not working

cmd, shift 3 not working. Has never been a problem before

What happens when you take the screen shot?

  • Cmd + Shift + 4

Cmd + Shift + 4 is very helpful in some of the things I do but there are a few changes I'd like to make if they are at all possible.
The first of these is to save out the screen capture with extension visible.
The second is to access some onscreen way to capture sections with pixel perfect accuracy. I suppose that one way to do so is to have an X, Y, W and H value displayed onscreen during capture. The values displayed at mouse pointer are helpful - perhaps a more accurate way is to incorporate numerical parameters as well?

when i take screen captures the files have extensions visible. you have to go into the finder prefs>advanced and check off "show all extensions".

when you hit CmdShift4 the X & Y values are displayed. if you want to capture something more accurate like a window then hit the space bar after you hit CmdShift4 and then click on the window you want captured.

  • CS5 illustrator 'shift arrow'/cmd shift arrow' keys wont work! (Help!)

    Hi,
I have just installed the CS5 web suite and are loving it so far, however for some strange reason when I try to move an object or point by holding down the shift - arrrow or cmd shift arrow key, (as you do) nothing happens!
Have tried restarting etc but to no avail... Works fine in Photoshop and other apps, but no go in ai... Any suggestions please as it's really annoying!
(Never come across this before in previous versions..)
    Thanks,
    Dean

It actually seem to have worked for you as well as you cannot copy and paste the settings folder from one version to another since the prefernces are tied to a different folder so if you moved or trashed the folder or replaced it in some way like changing the name of CS 4 to CS 5 then all you did is the same as above since Illustrator just created a new set of preferences and settings anyway.
So the above actually worked for you once you quit and restarted Illustrator.
Here look from my preferences folder CS 4 and CS 5 living confidentially side by side.
BTW if you just removed the preference file within this folder you did not follow the instructions correctly you have to get rid of the whole settings folder.

  • Cmd.-Shift-3 & -4 error message problem

After having worked all right forever, suddenly when I try to do a screen capture on my MacBook, an error message window is generated which says:
    "Screen capture failed
The attempt to take a screen capture has failed.
The error is: 'Unable to create type string.'"
I have tried numerous things (DiskWarrior, logging out, restarting) to no avail. Anybody know what to do to correct this on a MacBook (early 2009) with Leopard 10.5.8.

I checked the preference files using Terminal as you suggested, and nothing was reported as corrupted.
The application "Grab" does work (of which I was unaware or at least about which I'd forgotten!) without apparent problems.
I deleted the Finder and ScreenCapture plist files and emptied the trash to no avail--trying cmd-shift-4 afterwards still produced the identical error message window.
I've not yet tried Tony's suggestion of moving all the preference files to an untitled folder and restarting, as I'm in the middle of some things in other programs which I don't yet want to interrupt, but I'll try that next.
Another thought which just occurred to me: I seem to remember browing some place where a program was downloadable which allowed one to change the format of screen capture files from png files to other formats (pict, jpeg, tiff, etc.) I don't recall either downloading or doing this, or now even the name of the program, but could some program like that have messed up the screen capture function to produce this type of "string" error message?

  • Disable Cmd-Shift-B shortcut

    Hello,
In TIGER as well as LEOPARD, how do I disable the Cmd-Shift-B shortcut that launches Bluetooth File Exchange? I had found "Services Manager" for Jaguar PPC but that will not run on my MacBook Pro.
I am tired of not being able to type Cmd-Shift-B to make text bold in my other applications!
    Thank you,
    Eric

The shortcut to open the Bluetooth File Exchange in the service menu stands in the info.plist file inside of the Application Package.
Open the Bluetooth File Exchange Application with the contextual menu. Then open the folder Contents.
When you have an Plist Editor, open the file "info.plist" with the Editor and delete the entry "NSKeyEquivalent" in the Path "NSServices > 0".
Have you not an Plist Editor, open the file with TextEdit and delete the entry:
    <key>NSKeyEquivalent</key>
    <dict>
    <key>default</key>
    <string>B</string>
    </dict>
    Then logout and login again.
If this work under 10.5, can i not say.
And before you make changes, make a backup of this file.

  • Jumping between apps without cmd shift

In Tiger, I could work across various apps and in the finder without cmd shifting between apps as long as they were visible in one or the other monitor.
In Leopard I have to cmd shift or select the gray bar at the top or along the side of an app to use it, not just click on a file or anywhere in the window as per Tiger, very tedious.
I can't find a preferences menu option for this behavior either. Has this behavior changed between versions?

    Thanks Barney,
Your mention of which apps has narrowed the problem down... its only Motion that I seem to have the problem with, other apps behave normally but Motion won't 'let go' til I have selected the top or side bar of another app. Many thanks, I think I need to reinstall Motion anyway.

  • Using cmd-shift-left/right arrows in Terminal

    Hi,
Is there a way to revert to Leopard's shortcuts for switching tabs in Terminal?
I'm working on a daily basis with both Leopard and Snow Leopard and the fact that I have to use cmd-shift-left/right in the former (which is coherent with Safari) and cmd-left/right in the latter (which is coherent with I wonder what?) is extremely annoying.
I tried using System Preferences Keyboard pane to assign the shortcut to no avail, but it doesn't seem to work at all.
BTW, I really don't understand why Apple changed this shortcut. As with any application, changing shortcuts is not really considerate for end users ;P
    TIA

I don't know why you have command+left or right arrow for tab switching. i have command+shift +left or right arrow. running 10.6.2 here. also, the other shortcuts for this that show up in the window menu are command+} and command+{. those can be also be changed in keyboard system preferences. that should have worked for you. i can do it without problems. but I suggest you reset your terminal preference file. that should restore teh default shortcuts. quit terminal and delete the file ~/library/preferences/com.apple.terminal.plist. start terminal and the shortcuts should be commandshiftarrows.
