Cmd-Tab, Cmd-Opt-Esc don't go to remote machine

Is there any way to have Cmd-Tab and Cmd-Opt-Esc passed through to the remote machine. These commands seem to be captured locally even while the remote window is active
G5   Mac OS X (10.4)

I don't beleive it is possible. It is written into the application like that. Apple had to make decisions about commands like that. You may have noticed that Cmd-Q actually does get passed through to the controlled machine. So Apple must have decided that those commands would be more useful locally.
Don't forget- you can [almost] always use Force Quit from the Apple menu.

  • Cmd Opt Esc to "unlock" computer

I've noticed a pattern on my MacPro 1,1 where the beach ball will start spinning and only by pressing Cmd+Opt+Esc does it resume normal operation. This occurs regardless of which application I'm in, as it seems to be an OS-wide issue.
I don't select anything in the Force Quit dialog. Just by virtue of me accessing the FQ dialog does the beach ball disappear and normal OS/application operation resume.
Sorry, that's all the information I have, as I am not able to glean any specific action/activity that triggers the beach ball in the first place. I thought it was a Safari-specific issue, since that's the application I first noticed this behavior, but it also occurs in Chrome (and iTunes and iPhoto and so on).
I have perform Repair Permissions in Disk Utility, as well as run Rember memory test. Both pass with flying colors.
Anything else I should look into?

Force Quit is an application, so it takes focus when it launches. If you move your mouse to a window that was exhibiting the SBBOD, the spinner should return. For those issues, see http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/sbbod.html.

  • Desktop Icons Moved with cmd + Option + esc

We are hooked on Zuma (the game).
Sometimes, to get out of Zuma (full screen) quickly, we use the <cmd><opt><esc> combination, then press <esc>.
This often really messes up the icons on our desktops (moves them all to the top left quadrant, with no grid or other obvious alignment. Result is hap hazard and usually includes many overlaps.)
Another <cmd><opt><esc> and a forced "relaunch" of finder moves MOST of the icons back to where they were. The ones that aren't moved back ARE moved -- just not back to the original locations. The last time this happened, I had 8 or 9 icons on top of each other in the top-most, right-most icon location.
This is a new situation since upgrading to Leopard, and happens in both of our login accounts on the iMac.
    Thanks

I experience the same reordering of my desktop when I plug in a USB thumb drive or insert a DVD. I normally keep files and folder in little clusters on the desktop, so having them moved is a bit annoying. I guess this is just one of those crazy things?

  • IMac only appears to respond to Cmd-Opt-P-R

I have a 24" aluminium iMac from 2008. Yesterday it swallowed a DVD which made it unhappy; there's a continual (2 second or so cycle) of the drive spinning / stopping / spinning / stopping.
I tried the various procedures for ejecting the disc, (including normal methods within OS X, the command line utility and holding the mouse button on a reboot) without luck. I then tried setting bootcamp to start up the machine as windows to see if that would offer an eject method that worked. Since then, the machine just turns on, makes a chime, and stays on the white / gray screen (with the drive spin / stop in the background).
The only thing that appears to do anything at the moment is holding down Cmd-Opt-P-R on turning on the machine. Other key combinations, such as holding down Shift, or the Opt key, do not appear to do anything.
Suggestions welcome. I'm covered by applecare, but I'm (a) currently snowed in so unable to take it anywhere for a while and (b) would like to recover my data from the harddisc.

Do this only if all else fails. Looks like he's got double stick tape on the card that faces the label side. And if you attempt this, I'd only put the tape on the inside of the card. Somebody here tried this a few weeks ago and it worked.

    Which drive? The optical drive?

That's a PRAM Reset. You mean that's the only thing the computer responds to? What happens after doing that?
Try doing an SMC Reset. Shutdown, remove all peripherals except the keyboard and mouse, unplug the computer, hold the power button in for five seconds, plug power back in and restart.

  • Special Keys(Ctrl-opt-esc) in Screen Share no longer working after latest update

I typically remote into a machine back home through icloud once or twice a week to help my wife kill a program that can get stuck.  I used to be able to send command+opt+esc to get to the remote computers force quit applications window.  But now when I do that after the latest update, it only does it on my computer and no longer send the command to the remote screen share session.
Anyone else experience this or have a fix?
    -Dan

    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down together until you see the Apple Logo.
Note: Data will not be affected.
    (B) Close all apps in the multi-task window
    1.Double-click the Home button.
    2. Swipe the app's preview up to close it.
    3. Preview will fly off the screen.

  • My Safari shortcut Cmd+Opt+B doesn't work. Please Help.

    Hi fellow MacBook Pro Users,
My Safari shortcut Cmd+Opt+B, to show and hide all bookmarks doesn't work.  The same shortcut is used in a third party app Scrivener and it doesn't work there too.  I had a look at all my keyboard shortcuts listed in System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and don't see the shortcut listed there.  Also I checked my triggers in Quicksilver and didn't see the Cmd+Opt+B shortcut there too.  Any idea how I can fix this?  Had this issue for a long while now.
    Thanks!

This issue may be resolved by installing the 10.6.8 v1.1 combo updater.

  • Cmd-Opt-V pastes effects but doesn't remove those there-Why not?

    Hi
Been going thru some lessons, what fun, how helpful learning shortcuts and techniques I haven't employed up to now. Anywho...
When I copy a clip (intending to paste them to another clip) and then press Cmd-Opt-V, it pastes effects from the copied clip but doesn't remove those to the targeted clip. Why not?
    best
    elmer

That is the way the application works.
To my mind, that is a better choice than would be deleting the existing effects.
On the other hand, it might be useful to have a "remove effects" command - though I would not use it very often.
You can use the feedback to request/suggest features. I don't think that they will change this, as it is bound to annoy at least as many people as it pleases.

  • My tab default is1.25 which is too big for the A5 document I'm working on, how do I change the default tab so that I don't have to reset each individual line?

My tab default is1.25 which is too big for the A5 document I'm working on, how do I change the default tab so that I don't have to reset each individual line?

    Hi Hannah,
Inspector > Text > Tabs Button > Tab Settings > Default Tabs.
To set a tab stop on the go, click in the ruler.
If you can't see the ruler, Menu > View > Show Rulers.
To set tab stops for lines (paragraphs) you have already typed, select those paragraphs and set them all at once.
Also, have a look at Menu > Pages > Preferences > Rulers.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • How do I access recorded meetings? when I click on the 'meetings' tab it says I don't have permission

how do I access recorded meetings? when I click on the 'meetings' tab it says I don't have permission

Meeting recordings will have a direct URL, just like meeting rooms and content within Connect. You likely not a member of the Meeting Host group or Admin group within that Connect account, so you don't have the permissions to access the Meeting Library.
You will either need the Host of the meeting room that you are looking for the recording of to get you the link, and insure you have the correct permissions to view it, or have them move the recording to the Content Library where it can be placed in a folder that you have permissions to view.

  • Preview.app Cmd+F and »Done« button

    Morning.
When I make a search in Preview.app by entering Cmd+F and typing the search item, how can I push the »Done« button without using the mouse?
    TIA and kind regards, Friedrich

It behaves that way only if you do NOT have the Search field in the Preview toolbar (this is actually the default). Perhaps you would be happier if you added Search back into the toolbar--hitting Command-F then just puts the cursor into the Seach box, ready for you to type. There is no drop down sheet to clutter the view. Go to the Preview menu item View, select "Customize Toolbar..." and drag the Search box to the toolbar, click done. Hitting Command-F puts the cursor in the Search field, you just start typing. If there is a previous search term it is highlighted, so when you begin to type it will be over-written. No need to mouse click anything.

  • I want to change the keystroke from cmd opt shft to just shift like in Google Chrome

I wish I could just hold down the shift key to open a new window. Isn't there an app that will allow you to change system settings? I want to change that keystroke in Safari.

That's really funny! Made me laugh. I actually use Chrome and Safari. I just go back and forth depending on what I'm doing.
I actually just figured out how to fix this. In Preferences for Safari I just turned off Tabbed browsing and checked "When a new tab or window opens, make it active". Now I just have to click a link while holding down the command key to open a new window.

    Hey there doktora30,
It sounds like you need to manually shutdown your computer because it is unresponsive and will not do anything.
I want to suggest this bit from the article named:
    OS X keyboard shortcuts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1343
    Hold down the power button
Force your Mac to shut down
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
    All the best,
